I'd like to know:

if one's school is resuming on the 21st of August and the student arrives the US on the 22nd, will the student face any problems at the POE?

Note: the date on his I-20 reads 21st August, 2014
Of course POE will ask you question why coming late... Just defend yourself or give a good reason like maybe delay of flight... But it depend on you and what you want to give as excuse

juntod: Of course you can change anything you supplied orally. What they type is just remarks about your responses. E.g, Unconvincing reason for choosing Bleep, home ties is convincing, doesn't meet financial requirements, etc. There is no way they can type what you are telling them.
Ok.... Thanks bro

slimmy05: myopic. What made you feel when you're interviewed they document what you say by typing. They most times cross check and confirm the authenticity if what you filled in your ds160 and also your intentions to return if you actually show a good tie. A friend of mine went for interview and told the VO his dad is a banker, he went bank and told the VO the 2nd interview his dad works for an oil and gas firm, if his earlier speech was taken down. He should get a ban. If you don't document anything with the embassy, dude forget it, its just a hearsay.
sorry to ask, did the get later get visa with the bold at end of the day? because someone once asked me about changing sponsor's job

Ashigolo: I thank the Almighty God who made everything possible for me. I thank every member of this thread who have been there for me right from the early stage of the application process.

I slept in a friend's room (@doctoroma) at henry carr hostel, unilag postgraduate school, woke up at 3:15 and join a cab at unilag gate at exactly 4:25. I got to the embassy too early (4:45) and had to wait at the gate b4 it was finally opened at 5:15. At 6:00am, we were checked in, documents were checked and we finally landed in the consulate building where I got the number A003. My number flashed at counter 14, did the biometrics, primary documents were collected and I was asked to wait for my number to flash again. We waited for like 15 minutes b4 the VOs came around and the main interview started. Several applicants were interviewd b4 me, some accepted and some denied, I was so nervous but I kept my cool. Finally my number (A003) flashed at window 6 and I moved straight to the VO, a male in his early or late 40s I think. The interview lasted for like 1mins, this is how it went down

Me: Good morning sir, hw was your night
VO: fine thank you, how are you today
VO: you are Ashimi ...
me: yes sir
vo: I can see you are going for a master's degree in mathematics
me: yes sir
vo: do you write SAT (i quickly corrected him that its gre)
me: yes sir
vo: can i see your score card
me: i quickly gave him, he checked and returned
vo: what is your last degree and from which sch
me: mathematics from lagos state university (LASU)
vo: can i see your certificate
me: I gave it to him, he checked for some seconds and confirmd
the authenticity
vo: I can see you have an assitanship, in what form
me: its a teaching assistanship sir
vo: what will you do with your MS degree
me: I will come back to Nigeria to become a researcher and a college professor in computational mathematics.
vo: so who will pay for the rest
me: my dad
vo: what does he so
me: he is an aviation consultant for airlines and nigeria airforce
vo: your visa has been approved, pick it up at dhl V.I

it was simply God's favour, only gre and my BSc certificate were checked. No questions like why are u goin 2 US, hw many schs did u apply to, he didnt even ask me the name of the sch. I only made sure i maintaind eye contact with the VO all through th process I spoke confidently. All the same, it was God.

Thank you so much once again and to those that are yet to go for their interview, I wish u all success.

Sorry about the errors, I'm stucked in trafic along badagry express road, so I used my phone to type.
Cheers!
Congrats and enjoy your stay in obamaland

Prof Eze: Hello House,

I am very sorry for just posting how my interview went. I give all glory to God for its success. I also thank these people who are already studying in the States: Wale in Florida and Moni in Kansas.

My Profile: GRE; 170 Quant, 150 Verbal; TOEFL iBT; 109; Assistantship; RA (with ~$2,000 more than the required fund for a year).

Pre-Interview: My interview was on Thursday June 5 in Lagos. On Wednesday June 4th, I was at MFM headquarters to pray for divine presence. I had read this thread from part 1 up to the eve of my interview. Some of my friends who are in the states had already told me that I should just go and pick up my visa since the department is providing full funding, even in excess of $2,000. Still, I prayed and read this thread very well (even though it's time consuming).

Interview Day: I woke up 4:00 a.m. at my friend's house in Somolu and eventually got to the embassy at 5:18am in the heavy raining. My appointment was for 6:30am. My 1-20, GTB visa payment receipt, DS-160 confimation page as well as appointment confirmation print out alongside my int. passport were collected. After the biometric data capture, my number prompted up for the proper interview. My interview spanned about 30sec. Here is it;

VO: (No greetings o) You are Mr XYZ going to the University of xxxx for MSc in xxxxx
Me: Yes
VO: Who will sponsor you
Me: I am on scholarship(checked my 1-20
VO: Anyone going with you
Me: No
VO: (handed a paper to me marking DHL Isolo) Pick your visa at the address circled.
Me: Thank you (No single document was requested...Not even GRE and TOEFL)

I never knew God will honour me this way. Brethren, join me in praising Him. I pray that "for as many as those who have been destined to study in the US, nothing shall stop you in Jesus' name" (Amen). All contributors in this forum, I am grateful to you. Shalom
As the Lord liveth and His Spirit is alive, I key and tap into this anointing and divine presence of God that worked for you during your interview. Amen! Amen!! Amen!!!

TravelRe: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by Walspring: 8:00am On Jul 02, 2014
abujaniv: Hi everybody,

Thanks for the questions. Again, we are not going to comment on individual cases. Applicants who are seeking to come to the US for medical treatment have a fairly straightforward set of criteria to follow. They're outlined on our website here:
http://photos.state.gov/libraries/nigeria/487468/pdfs/MedicalVisaInformation.pdf

Keep in mind that, when you're applying for a visa for a medical purpose, you still have to meet all the qualifications for a normal visa as well. (For example, someone might be able to prove they have a bona-fide medical purpose for travelling, but nevertheless not demonstrate sufficient overall ties to qualify for a visa.) The advantage of that, of course, is that after the medical purpose is through you can still use the same visa for normal travel as long as it remains valid.

As for the questions we ask student visa applicants--obviously, that's going to vary from applicant to applicant. In general though, we're interested in finding out why somone chose a certain school, what other schools they looked at (and how they went about doing their research on schools), why they picked the degree they did, what their grades and exam scores have been so far, and how they're going to pay for going to school in the U.S. (Remember, it can get very, very expensive to go to school in the U.S., especially considering the work restrictions that come with student visas.)
Before nairaland was attacked and lost its data, the abujaNiv posted the message above and i want to ask questions with the bolded;

If an applicant that did his/her research online to know more about his school, course e.t.c and also make use of nairaland (https://www.nairaland.com/1482362/general-u.s.a-student-visa-enquiries) in order get more insight of what can be ask (questions & answers) during his/her interview and decided to print it out in to make use of it everyday in order to excel in his/her interview, but unfortunate for him/her the Visa Officer noticed his/her research and likely printed out questions & answers composed by an applicant inside his/her folder along side with his/her other documents when the visa officer requested to check his/her folder.

My questions are listed below;

1, Is research likely printed out questions & answers composed by an applicant are part of items/things that must not be bring in on the day of interview?
2, Is it against the U.S. Visa rule to bring in research likely printed out questions & answers composed by an applicant himself/herself?
3, What are the consequences if such documents are seen inside an applicant folder even without making use of it on the day of his/her interview?
4, Did it attract a ban penalty at all ?
5, What is the general stakes on this kind of issue?

Thanks and best regards!!!

Most of my documents carry all 3 of my names
Now i am in d process of making an int'l passport, should i use all d names that appear on my documents or the names on the invitation letter
Another thing, i lost the original of my birth certificate nd hv been using photocopies, are they going to request for the originals at the embassy?
Use your real names that you have on your birth certificate or school documents because of future reference... That's my own advice for you ooo

dahfweshdude69: Yeah... d sevis no I used when I applied for d first time is d same thing I used throughout during my interviews...and my sister just called and told me Cameron university notified her about my visa approval... but I will still contact d consulate
Oga it was you that made the mistake and not the embassy because they followed the sevis number you used... According to the post above you didnt update the sevis number to the new school you went with during your 3rd interview because it was the same sevis you used throughout right from the 2 denials and the last one that was approved

That shows that the person work in hand with the sevis number you filled which was for your former school that you were denied with before.. So no need to contact the consulate because the error is from you according to what you posted here.

Therefore enter obamaland with the school on your visa and then transfer back to the school you want.. No need for alarm or contacting embassy again
