GTay: New IPO listings could boost market liquidity
According to the Executive Director and Co-founder of Sahara Group Limited Tonye Cole, the Nigerian energy conglomerate has revived its plans to take on an Initial Public Offering (IPO). The purpose of the IPO according to the founder is to provide capital for the company to achieve its target of increasing its oil production by four-fold to 100,000 bpd. We recall that the company had initially planned to list in 2015 but refrained due to unfavorable market conditions as well as lower crude prices. However, the recent equity market recovery, improving macro-economic conditions, and most importantly stable crude oil prices have revived previously shelved listing plans. Although Mr. Tonye Cole did not provide a timeline or give an indication on the offer size, we highlight that in 2015, the company was looking to sell as much as 25% of its business for $600 million. We note that this is one of two potential listings soon to be done on the NSE, the second one being MTN Nigeria which is scheduled for the second half of 2018. We expect the IPO to further deepen the equity market – providing more investment opportunities as well as market liquidity.

RabbiDoracle: I remembered it vividly in SMN. Dem wan finish you .
I was against purchase of the stock as well because it later became too complex. But today, people now understand albeit late. Yes ooo. There was one Morgan in particular Emotions were rising then. People got hoodwinked with the 'sweet' stories. All the oversubscription of placements. The reverse acquisitions. The listings on JSE and Toronto. The planned refinery. They ignored the huge Technical/Management fees. At a point the shareholding structure was so confusing. Then they started some very complex capital/debt raising structure. Now the TRUTH is out! As a minimum, people should know why they are buying a particular stock and have some understanding of how that company creates value! That way you know when there is a problem. For example, if Cadbury makes money from producing and selling Bournvita. When you stop seeing Bournvita in the market or in people's home, you better jump out and ask questions later! |

pluto09: I don't think you really understand what is happening in japaul. Nobody is saying you should not buy but at least you should have some knowledge of what and why you are buying . That's how OandO started with some complex transactions that impoverished ordinary shareholders. If Milost is serious, they should invest via special placement. They can even own 90% of the company. Who buys shares at 50% premium and penalise a company if share price drops? Criminals! |

yom2: if u are long enough in this MKT .u ll know that major acquisition still remains best options for poorly run or moribund companies and 80% of the time it has worked out. let me take u back memory lane: ( 1)Benue cement company which metamorphosed to dangote cement (2) national salt company(3)ibtc acquired by the south African bank(4)interbrew (5)forteoil e.t.c. during dangotes acquisitions, a lot of people with bigotry and parochial interest kicked against it. now tell me what's d story today? I am new in the market. I am however able to spot criminal and illegal acts from a mile. No one is against major acquisitions. Just follow the rules and ensure transparency. No need supporting illegality. JAPAUL should call an EGM/AGM and allow shareholders decide. No need for complex transactions. If Milost is interested in investing, a special private placement can be done! |

Any means of identifying shareholders in the venue ??
Cc: Sir Emmanuelwummi, Pa Wanajo....etc Better to participate in the conference call than attend AGM. For the conference call, it is difficult to manipulate the questions to be asked. At the GTB conference call yesterday, the MD was asked about their succession plan! That shows the level of questioning. Such will not be allowed at AGM's. |

robobo: ok beta for them
to buttress what i am talking about above.
the decline of Access bank result for 2017FY was largely due to a loss of N33.63b from derivative instruments. a line of income that produced N53.32b profit for 2016FY, this speaks to the volatility of this line of income which is giving me concern as stated above. The GTB MD was asked specifically at the conference call yesterday and he confirmed that they are not into CBN swaps. He also confirmed that they are not using N360/$ yet. So expect some increase in revenue just by using N360/$. GTB and Access are not in the same category! |

Mind you, Wanaj0 was the one that made it known to many of us when ETI was a jewel. Pumping and I made over 100% returns, come add dividends on top (in USD self). But their management started messing up afterwards and stuffs like that. And the dumping started.
If he's still there, then there must be something he knows that I do not. And you no pay Tithe (or na TAX) to me for this 100% ETI constitute like 2.5% of my NSE portfolio. I entered based on their turnaround story which is yielding fruit. Yes there is no dividend but things are looking up. Access is paying dividend but with a drop in profitability. That said, I except ETI price to come down to about N15.00 pending their Q1 result. They just send some cheque for their preference shares redemption self. |

I am a shareholder of JAPAUL. I own 1,000 units . The deal is a SCAM! Where is the shareholders approval? Na so OandO take start |

robobo: thats my fear going forward for nigerian banks after the extra ordinary FX gain and TBills income of last two years (which brings with it sustainability question)
same thing i.e FX gain (from derivatives) was pivotal for Zenith (yet to critically look at GTB) for 2017 and Zenith had stated as per conference call that they expect more from that line of income (which might have necessitated the current sell off).
if you understand derivative to be a very volatile and risky venture then u might start getting concern for Nigerian banks.
N.B I am heavy on the banks though seriously thinking of taking advantage of next bull to cut down cos of this concern except this concern is allayed before then GTB bank stated that they did not partook in the CBN swaps |

Coolcash1: I think Jegede, Milost et al caused the negative report about the deal. From the report, the newspaper company tried to get confirmation of the deal from them but no one was ready to talk. Of course, when there is gap in communication, you give room for speculation and image-damaging conclusions. However, with various beneficiaries of the milost largesse coming out to confirm that the firm is genuine and the various deals as well, this is not sufficient enough to convince the pubic until SEC confirms it.
Though the rebuttal by Jegede has caused a rally in Japaul shares today.... How long this will last, i leave it to mr. Market to answer.. When did the shareholders gave Jegede the mandate to enter that agreement? Everything about that agreement is a recipe for 'pumping and dumping'! Buy stock at 50% premium then IF the price drops, you get more shares. Is that not an invitation to PUMP up the price? So this Milost people only invest in undervalued company. JAPAUL is undervalued? Make them continuuu |

rebekah2011: Oga, I agree with you. Like or hate them they are spot on most of the time. I remember when Oga Wanajo sounded a note of caution on my darling UCAP. I was waxing lyrical saying it must perform than last year. Emotions. Oga RabbidOracle and others that most have termed prophets of doom are only doing the job of helping to balance our emotions. There are some stocks that will bring quick money but the reversal could be disastrous. At least we know that no matter what they say, the market has the final say. I also like UCAP (even though I hate company's associated with Tony) BUT I always try to remove extraordinary items when making my analysis. It is always good to understand the numbers. I am surprised that people are disturbed by Oracle's post. Managing your emotions is basic to successful investing. Problem is that many are investing without a strategy/plan. They were told money can be made on the NSE, the saw the bulls and they felt prices will always go up, everyone became an expert. For me, this is the time to step back and develop a real investment plan/strategy that first into your age, income, future plans and risk profile/appetite. . Filter out the noise and fire on! If people IGNORE the daily price fluctuations, there are bargains on the NSE for the patient investors. |

shigidi: I have a question for you we can all benefit from. How much of your portfolio is in stocks and how much is in bonds at any time? Plus do you always keep some cash? This is a personal question with no wrong or right answer. As at today, it looks like this 35% are in stocks (NSE) 15% in foreign stocks 35% in Real Estate 10% in Cash (Mainly Forex) 5% in Money Market in various forms I keep cash BUT mainly in forex because I have forex exposures and help to hedge against devaluation. Cash to me is king. I like being liquid I don't do bonds. Nothing against it though. |
