I guess it is good and well to blurt out abundance of hate, bitterness and even stupidity. Unlike certain Fulani herdsmen who simply mow and massacre s-called fellow Nigerians with slightest or no provocation. It will amount to idiocy if you ever think you are reasonable enough to subject IPOB to scathing comments while remain mute on the massive killing of Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram. You are one good reason Nigeria is regarded as shithole and irreparably dilapidated. It said that pretense is the hallmark of insincerity. There is no remote basis for Nigeria to continue to live.

The smaller African countries become the lesser their military strength to oppose China, Russia, etc.

Do you know why US can't bully India.? Because they have both the tech and population to oppose the US and other major powers.

Do you know why Germany finally succumbed in WW2.? Because they have limited manpower when compared with the Russians.

So, stop being scared because those nations are also interested in seeing Africa further weaken in order to easily exploit Africa.

That is why I will advice our people to take their R & D in military technologies very serious.

How can they develop anything or commercial their research works when the lecturers keep teaching their students outdated curriculum, they barely update their curriculum, so tell me how they can commercialize any research? if you want to commercialize a research, it has to be something spectacular and not outdated. Also about developing this and that, they won't be able to develop any thing until the government supply universities with adequate facilities, laboratories needed for such development to occur.

I agree with the general idea but it is not this responsibility of government. It should be an initiative taken by the institutions as a contractual agreement between their institution and the companies.

These are some of the things that the Deans of faculties, especially the STEM faculties should be looking into.

I don't see why at this age and time a project supervisor will ask his students to work on grinding machine as a degree project, some of which end up as scrap lying around in the workshops; even the reports are tossed into garbage bins and this is no joke.

Methinks, Deans of faculties should establish some working relationship with companies so that the energy and funds students expend will at least count for some worth. Permit me to go crazy here, all these cockroaches running around causing nuisance in the house... Can universities not carry out research on how to weaponize them for military offensive? grin
Why the FG must also be involved is to pass into law, the concept of tax breaks every 10years for companies that will truly invest in the universities.

Thank You Sen. Borofice For This Clarification.

*President Buhari, the Imaginative Clone and Human Genetics.*

*By, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, OON.*

Ordinarily, I wouldn't like to involve myself in the nauseating debate about the rumoured cloning of President Muhammadu Buhari and the imaginative Jibril Aminu of Sudan because it is rubbish in the face of scientific realities.

As a Nigerian who bagged Ph.D degree in Human Genetics in congenital malformations arising from chromosomal aberrations in 1975 and had Post-Doctoral Research in mutagenesis and carcinogenesis, I consider myself as competent to comment on the needless controversy.

For a 75 years old adult to be cloned, a living cell must be obtained and subjected to some manipulations that will convert it to totipotent cell. The totipotent cell will now undergo embryological development that will produce a young human fetus.

It should be noted that for the fetus to grow and become a replica to a 75 years adult, it will take 75 years to grow.

It must also be said that the phynotypical presentation of a man is a product of interaction between his genotype and the environment.

Therefore, for the clone to look like the same man, it must be exposed to the exact environment for a period equivalent to 75 years.

It is therefore ridiculous for anybody to think Mr President has been cloned and that the person who is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a clone from Sudan.

Instructively, I have had opportunity to have one-on-one interactions with Mr President before he took ill and after his recovery, there is nothing to suggest that Nigeria is governed by a clone of President Muhammadu Buhari.

I will therefore appeal to Nigerians to stop making insinuations and statements that ridicule our beloved country in the global scientific world.

*Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, OON is the Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District.

EducationFG: The Only 2 Ways To Have World Class Educational Institutions by Warship(op): 8:39am On Dec 11, 2018
Our national annual budget is too small to fund all public schools.

Private funding is the only option left except Nigeria will increase her GDP which is nearly impossible because we do not want to restructure Nigeria and practice true federalism that enforces resourcefulness at State and LG levels.

My advice to FG is to connect private companies with the universities on the following basis:

1) Upgrading of the labs/workshops.

2) Financing and Commercialization of research works.

3) Tax break every 10years to motivate private companies to continue supporting the universities.

4) First 5years Tax exemption for every new products developed within our universities.

Stanford University in US makes money from the commercialization of their research works in order to fund the university.

The problem with our higher institutions is their inability to find a way to commercialize their research works just as other advanced universities.

Universities ought to be the richest institutions because of their capacity to develop socioeconomic products that can generate funds for them.

Example:

Nigerian Military needs drones to fight BH.
How many universities have taken the bold step to develop military drones that can be sold to the military.?

Nigerians need cheaper energy, how many Nigerian universities have developed biogas systems that can be sold to residential homes, offices etc.?

What our universities are good at, is to divert Accreditation funds instead of buying the equipments needed and yet they make no effort to encourage students-staff research works at departmental/faculty/college levels.

Also FG Should Take Note That, Lack of Funds Is Not The Only Problem With The Universities But Also Lack Of Creativity and Accountability.

I will advice the FG to open a website whereby every dime given to the universities/polytechnics and what it was spent on including the equipment models bought should be made public so that, everyone can go and check the real price in the market or company so as to know if prices were inflated.

In Summary The Only 2 Ways Are:

1) Private Funding To Upgrade, Finance and Commercialize Research Works.

2) Increasing National Revenue In Order To Increase Allocation For The Educational Sector.

This Is My Humble Opinion and Better Ideas Are Welcomed.

Appears You know very little about the university processes. During accreditation, most HODs don't joke with it and will make sure the right equipment are purchased but after that they relax and adopt the "manage it" style of a typical Nigerian with intermittent corrupt acts.

Major Procurement in recent times are done from the University procurement unit not manned by any Academic staff or ASUU and that is where the money is been siphoned with inflated purchases.

The money HODs control are the DTLC paid on a quarterly basis for reagents et al.,
You are ignorant of what is going on in the universities.

I know a university where the Biochemistry department HOD diverted 5m and use only 3m to buy trash and caused the department their accreditation.

If I start talking here, you will run.

FG needs to open a website where every accreditation funds are stated and the equipments/materials bought are stated including the costs so that the public can go and confirm the true cost in order to make corruption difficult to go unnoticed.
