Ojukwu almost won that war within the first year of that war. After Benin fell, it was a matter of few months and they would have reached Lagos. But instead of making a local the head of government for the newly formed Republic of Benin, he rather made an Igbo man a head. This further made the young republic feel like a conquered territory of Biafra, thus driving a schism between the locals and the Biafran soldiers, the locals who made food for them poisoned a number of them, and then the Nigerian army came into Benin, Emmanuel Ifeajuna and Victor Banjo who were the spearhead of the troop in Benin retreated, this eventually led to their execution for treason. Morale went down and the war would never be the same again.
A war in this time will have even a more disastrous casualty toll than that of 1967 considering the number of Igbos outside of the Biafran territory. And since the Igbos are largely hated, it will be just like the aftermath of the 1966 coup.

If the Biafrans prepare very well, the greater casualties will be more on Nigerians than Biafrans.
