Well Jesus is not just any human being, is he now?

Are you a bible character or are you a believer? I have honest believers here who aren't ashamed to speak the truth. They tell me that the basis of their belief is blind faith. You on the other hand, disagree, preferring to point to Rolls Royces and the new moons as your evidence that humans beings can dance on the surface of the ocean.

The bible contains many examples of blind faith but the most popular one is the example of doubting Thomas from John 20.

Here we see that Jesus has special blessings for people who believe things without material evidence, like you. You picked up a book and believed the incredulous things written inside, even though they do not have corresponding illustrations in nature.

I think you're overlooking the fact that God is not some generic name. There are different Gods with different attributes.

So whether or not God exists is not the argument on the table. That's why you think it's absurd. You're attacking a straw man.

The issue is whether your God exists. And it's not absurd for someone to say that the God of your holy book does not exist. You said as much yourself by admitting that there is no material evidence that can substantiate his existence.

God could be anything. Spinoza's God is basically all of nature. So no one is saying that God doesn't exist.

It has everything to do with it. You're proposing a system of behavior in which human beings adopt principles and commandments that are found in books with the hopeful assumption that they were written by a supernatural person.

I'm saying that such a system would unleash the floodgates to hell, since anyone can adopt anything. And the books don't have to be peaceful.

God can neither be proven true not proven false. So those who believe do so through FAITH.

If we could PROVE God then there is no merit in belief as it would be a simple logical proof.

Mans attempts at proving Gods existence over the last thousands of years have failed utterly (as expected) and are as futile as the pathetic attempts to prove he does no exist.

This is why we are saved "THROUGH FAITH ALONE".

However, you do see the potential for disaster in your admission, don't you? Anyone with enough "faith" can claim to be saved by the God in which they believe. This is exactly what Muslims and Hindus are doing. They really have faith just like you do.
For those of us who require that our faith be accompanied by materials, like the apostle Thomas did in the bible, all of these different Gods are themselves evidence of the fact that the one true God isn't talking to anyone. That's if there's such a thing as one true God.

Different holy books are in circulation today, each of them claiming to provide an inalterable version of what God wants us to do. Combine that with the fact that no one alive today has been able to demonstrate his or her contact with the entity called God.

There's only one conclusion for me. But I do see your point of believing the thing through faith. It is a dangerous precedent, IMO. But to each his own.

Atheists and agnostics exist because no one has been able to prove that God talks to human beings.

And that is the fundamental claim of the bible: God talks to people in a manner which can be verified by the problem solving mentality of ordinary deduction.

If no one is able to show that God talks to human beings, then the holy books are just books.
