"Why do women live longer than men? WOMEN live longer than men. It is unfair, but true. In developed countries, the average difference is five or six years. In the poor world the gap is smaller, owing to the risks of childbirth. But nowhere is it absent. The question is, why? That question can be answered at two levels. An evolutionary biologist would tell you that it is because women get evolutionary bonus points from living long enough to help bring up the grandchildren. It is that while 70-year-old men have the hearts of 70-year-olds, those of their female peers resemble the hearts of 20-year-olds. The team's principal finding was that the power of the male heart falls by 20-25% between the ages of 18 and 70, while that of the female heart remains undiminished. It's not all bad news for men, though. In a related study, the team found that the hearts of veteran male athletes were as powerful as those of inactive 20-year-old male undergraduates. But can men really recover lost heart function after a lifetime of inactivity and poor diet? Is it ever too late to start exercising? “I think the answer is no,” says Dr Goldspink. “The health benefits to be gained from sensible exercise are to be recommended, regardless of age.” So if you are male and getting on, get on with it." http://www.economist.com/science/displayStory.cfm?story_id=3556139 |
Dido. iice:That happened at my graduation. At first not many people were crying and then they played Enya's "Only Time" then almost everyone was crying. . . including me! |
I hear you, Zebudaya. ![]() |
This thread's just generalizations. ![]() I agree with HotAngel. "Want" is different from "need". If you're trying to satisfy a women's every wants, you'll probably be wasting your time. same goes vice versa. women should find out the men's needs. just figure out the need and your fine i guess. @Zebudaya, you probably shouldn't be complaining about a bad relationship if your going to be treating a lady like trash. Respect is reprocical. |
Zahymaka:See, if the girls can led guys in further math, it means they're capable of becoming equally good programmers. j/k ![]() I usually don't use it late at night 'cause no one's on. I'll start leaving it on, my bad. |
emmeno:would you want to be controlled by your wife? |
goodguy:Maybe you should change the topic title. We find it offensive! .j/k ![]() you can't "own" or "posess" a human whether male or female unless it's your son/daughter and he/she is under 18. lol at least not here in the U.S i guess. |
Mountain Of Never Ending Yes! Naira |
I know i don't take calculus or any advanced math like that but I do get colleges and programs in my school actively recuiting too!!! esp. WPI and NYIT. Now i feel bad for the girls who do take advanced math. I bet they'll be bombarded w/ emails and letters. |
omo07:Oh. that makes better sense. ![]() I knew these people couldn't be this shallow. |
Zahymaka:so he's doing it for the "pretty girls"? lol ![]() I agree. men do nursing but i think it's rare. I've never met one ![]() well, I wonder what females are going into engineering for? j/k ![]() |
diddy4: ![]() You want to send Goodguy to his early death!!? |
According to Seun, 60% of Nairaland members are based abroad. So what's your point? And maybe most of the few females that do participate in the "serious" boards are based abroad (the west). That's my point. I've seen threads on this site where the guys get surprised when they see an active female in "their" boards. I don't know about you but i really don't see anything surprising about it. If you put a male child and a female child in school, they do equally fine in all their academic areas. It's only when a certain subject portrayed to be a mens only thing that women loose interest. That's why I used the Smith College example as an illustration. It's a "girls only" school, so the women are free to pursue whatever they want w/o restrictions. I probably will become a CEO and boss some men around when i graduate. j/k nursing is now a "women" only thing so will it be right to say that nursing is less serious than lets say occupational driving? I don't think any man would even want to become a nurse because it's a "woman's thing" just like many women aren't interested in engineering because it's "for" men. women and men aren't equal but they should be and they will be with time. Who knows? women might even overtake men at some point in time and it'll be the men's turn to create threads like these and complain. ![]() |
IAH:true talk. there are more females than males in colleges presently. i think it's 57% to 43% ratio. but it's true!! things are changing!! we're not in the 16th century anymore where all women do is breastfeed. |
post ya picshure ![]() |
good luck in what? ![]() One thing I forgot to add: The more advanced a culture gets, the closer the gender gap. and for the less developed countries, the gender gap is as wide as something else. so maybe you should visit a western forum and you might see an increasing female contribution to "serious" threads. Gender equality does not mean that men and women become the same, but that their opportunities and life chances are equal." |
goodguy:As i said earlier, when i say "equal" i don't mean physical strength because i know men generally have a stronger build than females. men aren't more capable of doing things than women. First of all, what are the serious-minded boards you're referring to? sports? Most of the sports esp in Nigeria and Africa are male dominated so i don't see why women should take more imterest. Technology? Again this area is male dominated. That's why many schools are encouraging women to follow engineering career paths. And yeah women participation in this area is increasing. who knows 100 years from now, there will be just as many female engineers as male. (in the past, only males were school teachers now that has changed) "Women today make up less than 20 percent of students enrolled in engineering, on average, and comprise less than 9 percent of the engineering workforce. (1) These percentages are much better than they were 25 years ago. The mid- to late 1970s saw dramatic increases in women’s enrollment in engineering school and entry into the workforce." http://www.nae.edu/NAE/naehome.nsf/weblinks/NAEW-4NHMH2?OpenDocument If men however continue to say that women are weak and have to business in serious areas. and if women continue to beieve that their role ends in the kitchen and in breastfeeding . . i'm sorry but things won't change. we're working towards it and with time, maybe not in my lifetime, there will be just as many women as men in most specialities. |
yoruba to improve my yoruba because it sucks a little right now. I'm into the culture thing too. |
