Good development. But....

Are the students psychologically prepared to continue the exams barely 24 hours after suicide bombings occurred within the campus?
I think it would have been much better to give the incident some time, so as to restore some confidence among the university population. Sitting for exams almost immediately after the traumatic incident may not be the best move.

What adequate security has been put in place, just in case BH tries to make another statement?
What a sorry state of affairs this is.

I have friends who graduated from this University and they told me me bokoharam has never attacked the University even though it has attacked giwa barracks close to the university. But they said bokoharam drove to the school one day and said they'll attack the school one day. Now this shows that truly bokoharam have been defeated because, why didn't they attack the school when they were at the peak of their power? Why attack the defenseless University now that they've been chased out of sambisahuh It shows that they have been defeated and are trying to look relevant by sneaking in a lone cowardly suicide bomber just to cause panic and ridicule the efforts of the soldiers!
When they bomb a market in the next few days, you'll still make this comment, right?
When they kill a couple more dozens by month end, you'll still say they are defeated....even when the body count keeps mounting.

Better wake up. Tell me where you have seen any terror group totally annihilated? Once the seed of terrorism is sown anywhere, it doesn't get uprooted.
What gave rise to Boko Haram in the north east still exists. Namely, poverty, illiteracy, corruption, religious intolerance and fanaticism.
I just laugh at anyone living a pipe dream that this people have been wiped out. Even nobody can give a credible account of Shekau's whereabout. Not that his death will stop the group anyway.
If the country as we know it presently, is serious about eradicating terrorism, then I can confidently tell you that the first step towards achieving that goal has not been taken.

If you don't mind and while we wait for Herr Dokter Professor.

DPM = Damp Proof Membrane.

It's plastic membrane (basic really) that is laid down on the bare earth (laterite or sand filling) and before pouring the concrete slab (german floor).

This prevents moisture from rising up from the ground into the floors and walls. If you've seen some homes that have peeling paint and walls down near the ground then that's usually caused by rising damp (moisture).

They also use this membrane on suspended slab (decking) on top of the wood support but below the iron and plumbing works. They use this not for moisture but to have a smoother surface on the ceilings.
About the bold in your comment;
Will this membrane on the suspended slab be peeled off prior to the ceiling getting screeded, or it remains in place?

Na him do himself
You see, I don't support Kanu in anyway. Go through my posts to confirm this. But....
You saying he failed to conduct himself reasonably makes you sound like a dunce.

On more than one occasion, the courts had delivered judgement that he be released, but Buhari opposed the courts and won't obey their orders. Does that make the president a reasonable human?

Do you even begin to apply reason for someone who is unreasonable? The FG has continuously shown contempt to court judgements, so why can't its citizens do same? I personally think Kanu is just seeking for cheap glory, and his antics irritates me. But at this time, he is standing for his right, no matter whether he gets it or not.

Finally, in this case, why would he be tried secretly? In a democratic setting, this bears the traits of dictatorship. He was accused publicly from the beginning, and he'd defended himself in open court so far. From all the FG has been doing, do you think they are intent on giving him a fair hearing?

I don't know how you came to your conclusion, given that the reason he opposed the court was clearly stated. So, if you were in his shoes, you would lie down and get run over?
Says a lot about the "man" you are.

When I got to the beginning of that second paragraph, I was like, "really??"

I could be wrong, but if it were not for the feeling of adventure, and the excitement of seeing a part of Nigeria that hasn't been visited before, and mingling with graduates from different institutions, I daresay no one looks forward to that waste of one year called NYSC.

By the way, what responsible government sends vulnerable youths into a zone that is still confirmed to be under continued siege by terrorists?
Even the NYSC uniform is an attractive target for the terrorists.
Serve the country at your own risk, man. Your safety is not assured. The NYSC certificate is no guarantee of you making a headway in your chosen career. In no distant time, the certificate will hold absolutely no water.

Don't really know those locations too well..... Isn't Isikwuato close to Okigwe? Might b d same plantation that extends to Okigwe..... Correction needed on this myAbiatement please
Well, they are basically within same geographical location.
Remember that the present ABSU Uturu campus was formerly IMSU, but during the creation of Abia state, the boundary was made such that IMSU Uturu campus became ABSU. That was done just so that the new state of Abia will have a state owned tertiary institution. Uturu (now in Abia) used to be part of Okigwe (now in Imo)
When driving from Okigwe to ABSU, immediately after the campus is the road that leads to Isuikwuato.
Like I said, all these places are within same location. Its just politics and artificial boundary delineation that separates them.

Now, as for the cashew plantations, there are several of them in that location, ranging in size from a few plots to a few acres. I think most of them are individually owned. The sizeable ones I saw were the ones located in Isuikwuato. There are several small plantations all across the areas, in places like Ovim, Ubahu, Uturu...can't name them all, but they are mostly small plantations.

You will also observe cashew plantations along the road when you drive from Okigwe to Uturu...immediately after that deep valley on the right. Collectively, they are child's play when compared with plantations in Oyo, Osun, Kogi and some other North Central states

If you are observant, you will notice the similarity in the vegetation and soil type in the lands within Okigwe going towards Enugu and parts of Ebonyi. These are the soil types that best support cashew plants.

Please, any idea on a cashew plantation in Imo state? I was going through a thread on d economic value of cashew n I noticed just few states were mentioned (3 actually) without any reference to S.E at all. Decided to call Dad today to find out more n he said d one he knows z around Isikwuato in Abia state. I just wanna know, z there a reason it's not been grown in Imo state? Probably soil or something of that nature
I think part of the problem is a result of communal land ownership and fragmentation in the SE. Land is in short supply there. You will hardly get a single community who owns, say, 50 hectares of farmland and willing to sell or lease it all at once. Compare this with the SW where there are thousands of hectares of farmlands and the owners are looking for buyers.

Because areas in Oyo, Oshun and Kogi states are already known for cashew cultivation, they attract international buyers. It really needs to be on a large scale covering thousands of hectares and yielding several thousands of metric tons to be competitive and attract attention from buyers.

I know the areas in Isuikwuato where cashew plantations are located. Not that far from ABSU.
FoodRe: Tanzanian Lady: "Ghanaian Jollof Rice Is Better Than Nigerian Jollof Rice" by whirlwind7(m):
cheesy

Do you guys remember the adage "a child who doesn't eat out will say his mother is the best cook?"

Taste buds differ. Deciding which of the jollof is better will depend on the type of food the taster has been used to, the sort of flavors his palate is accostomed to, and which he is already biased towards eating.
It doesn't matter if the person in question was neutral. If any of the jollof versions has a certain flavor that reminds him of certain dishes he was already familiar with and enjoys, he woukd choose that one as the better dish.
Not sure of a better way to explain this. But, bottom line is, the argument for which is the better dish is mostly due to individual taste.
I wouldn't take such an argument seriously.

I want to ask about the royal palms that were planted all around the estate. How are they fairing at the moment? I see that most of the vegetation on the land are drying up because of the dry season. Are the palms continuously watered and nurtured?

Good job you guys are doing here. Instead of leasing, don't u guys think it's better to buy? Cos in leasing, there z d tendency for annual increase in rent as Lagos landlords do, n if u decide to lease for many years, I'll suggest that money be used in outrightly buying a land. Lands r available at Old Nekede around d zoo, although I know some farms r already located there. Also, does the farm have to be in Owerri? Considering that the river flows through several communities, why not get a land in one of those communities that lie along the river path?

Though I'm not in Imo, but I'll be open to investment opportunities as Bros Jasper does.

Agrixulture is a hotcake in Imo state n d little time I spent researching t there last year shows that animal farming z even more lucrative due to the presence of numerous hotels, eateries and bars. Fish, snail and chicken most especially. Infact, suppliers ain't enough for these commodities. That doesn't discard the demand for food/vegetables cos even Bros Jasper said he doesn't meet demand for his cucumbers.

Together, we can make Imo great... #GOD BLESS SOUTHEAST NIGERIA #
Please, do you know the communities that are located along the river?
I have been trying to make such enquiries.

There are still very cheap lands in this town. You can get some for N750-850k but not in an estate. Sometimes in locations not planned. Narrow roads and poor positioning. There is also a risk of land grabbing as soon as you turn your back on the land.

A planned estate is better. I will be on ground to follow the leg walk, to document the whole process and issue originals of survey plans and lawyers agreement. You cannot get this in a random and cheap purchase.

Imo is good. I will look into Owerri again after some months. Sales was dull last time. I hope I will sell more plots faster if I return to Owerri.
As for that last comment, I may be wrong, but I think the location you chose contributed to the low interest. Irete or Egbu or any location not far from owerri would have been more suitable.
Okuku is satellite to Umuguma, which is already some distance to owerri.
Enugu is bigger and more developed, and virgin locations surrounding the city has better indices that will drive speedy development compared with Imo state. So, one needs to be careful in choosing locations in Imo, by ensuring that it has immediate access to the state's capital.
