The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has distanced itself from the N2.67bn school feeding money found in private accounts.

The money was meant for feeding school children during the lockdown occasioned by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry, in a statement issued on Monday night by the Special Assistant on Media to its minister, Nneka Anibeze, said that the statement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on the said funds was twisted and misinterpreted.

“The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development hereby informs the public that the Federal Government colleges school feeding in question is different from the Home Grown School Feeding which is one of its Social Investment Programmes,” it said in the statement.

According to the ministry, the school feeding under scrutiny was the feeding of students in Federal Government colleges across the country.

“It is not under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs which only oversees Home Grown School Feeding for children in Primaries one to three in select public schools across the country.

“The ministry or the minister does not even handle or disburse funds for Home Grown School Feeding. The money for funding the programme neither passes through the minister nor the ministry”, the statement said further.

The ministry further explained that the over N2.5bn which was reportedly misappropriated by a senior civil servant took place in a different ministry and not the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

Social media aide to the president Lauretta Onochie says former President Goodluck Jonathan initiated the Kano-Niger Republic rail line and that President Muhammadu Buhari deserves praise for not discarding the project, Igbere TV reports.

Mrs Onochie stated this in a tweet on Monday amid backlash from the public after the Federal Government signed a $1.96 billion contract for the development of the rail line last week.

The rail line will go through Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Jibia to Maradi in Niger Republic.

The total cost of $1,959,744,723.71, according to the Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, is inclusive of 7.5 per cent VAT.

Igbere TV recall that former Vice President Namadi Sambo had in 2013 announced the government’s plan to build a rail line connecting to Niger Republic.

Sambo spoke of the rail line during a reception organised by the Zazzau Emirate in honour of Governor Muktar Yero of Kaduna State at the emir’s palace in Zaria.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), on Friday warned against religious extremism and intolerance in the country, with a call on religious leaders and the citizenry to be united in eradicating the menace.

According to him, Nigeria celebrating its 60th independence anniversary “is a milestone and also a reminder of the great sacrifices of the founding fathers and past leaders who fought unitedly and formidably for the present generation to have a country which has remained the most prosperous black nation in the world, 60 years on.”

Meanwhile, at the event, Buhari’s wife, Aisha, has described the COVID-19 pandemic as a sign of God’s ‘unhappiness’ with the human race.

She called on Nigerians to sustain praying to God to witness the end of the pandemic as Nigeria prepares to mark its 60th independence anniversary.


She said, “We need to pray for forgiveness and special prayers for forgiveness. The world is no longer the same as a result of the pandemic, which is a sign that the Almighty God is not happy with us. I think we have no choice but to continue asking for forgiveness from the Almighty Allah.

The Nigerian Army has said that 13 suspected Boko Haram terrorists alongside 6 women and 17 children from Kodila village have surrendered to troops of 151 Task Force Battalion at Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to the Defence Headquarters(DHQ) the suspected members of the insurgent group surrendered to the Nigeria Army in aggressive intensive clearance operation by troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE in the North East, on Saturday.

DHQ noted that, the, suspects and their family members who surrendered on 26 September 2020, have been receiving medical attention at the 21 Special Armoured Brigade Medical Centre.

"The suspects are currently undergoing thorough profiling and investigation in line with global best practice in handling such cases", the DHQ added.

election.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV, Sunday, Buhari
urged the governor to show grace and humility in victory.

and moral authority will be weak,” Buhari said.

“I have consistently advocated for free and fair elections in

A leading support group of the ruling party, APC Mandate Defenders has commended the Federal Government for setting machinery in motion for the celebration of the country's 60th Independence Anniversary starting from October 1st, 2020 to September 30th, 2021 while also berating some ethnic nationalities and groups for opposing the initiative.

In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday by the national publicity secretary of the group, Mr. Ifeanyi Emeka, the group said, the one year anniversary celebration will afford the nation the opportunity to heal the land, pursue the dreams of our founders, renew the promise the nation holds and live-out the meaning of it's motto - 'Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.'

The group however expressed worry over comments attributed to some senior citizens against the plan, saying opposing everything and proposing nothing is a great diservice to the nation.

"Though passion may have strained, but we should never allow it to affect the bond of our affections."

If these people criticising government plan had spent the same amount of time and energy advising our misguided youths most of whom were born after independence and are currently faning the embers of division and disunity in the country we all love, there would not be need for such sensitisation plan.

But because the elders refused to play their roles properly, government have taken it upon itself to use the occaison of our diamond Jubilee to sensitise the people; especially those fanning the embers of discord, reminding them that our diversity is our strength and out of many, we are one.

Therefore, we call on all Nigerians to embrace the newly launched logo and support the government plan because there is no other nation we can call our own.

Togther shall we be and live in a united, prosperous and indivisible nation, so help us God!
