Talking about last year's budget, the president in his New year's speech said the capital project performance of the budget is 83%. Could this mean the defense ministry got virtually all they planned for? Maybe we should review the budget to see what we most likely ordered for.

The president also said that the legislature allowed the 2020 budget to continue running till March 2021 so that the MDAs would get everything they budgeted for even though 2021 budget has been signed into law.

yes fighting against your own population insurgency is not easy , conventionnal army strategy and equipments are useless . even mighty US struggled to stop taliban in afghanistan or insurgency in Irak .

for algeria terrorism and insurgency in 90's beguining 2000's. it was a dirty war . 150.000 to 200.000 killed . beside rising rural militias to fight for there towns , the infiltration of terrorist groups by the secret services, there is even reports about secret service agents committing atrocious crimes against population disguised to discredit islamists.

Reasonable counter-insurgency strategy for Nigeria to learn from...... We can never win this war with force, we have to use diplomacy and economy too. The first thing any government serious with security will do is to stop all the billions in security votes nonsense that these governors collect and use it in modernizing and rearming the military and paramilitary services.

Even som Bokoharam members were high ranking members of the borno state government at some point in time. Let PDP win the next presidential election and you will see a change in the IPOB situation; they planned to boycott the 2019 election, we all know how that turned out. Such is the stupid politics we all play in this country and it is somewhat normal for a country of hundreds different ethnic groups, there will always be dissatisfaction and feeling of operation and marginalization.

I suspected ransom was paid right from the very first day, I was even in support of it while discussing possible ways of freeing the kids. No government would have made such a deal public to save face. Negotiations was the only way they could have freed those kids without casualties.

It took the threat of losing the 2015 election for Jonathan to order the largest offensive against Bokoharam yet, he found a way to get over $2 billion to equip the military even though majority of the the money was used for other selfish reasons . Immediately after the election, everything returned back to status quo cause he wasn't affected anymore. Trust me if the chances of Buhari wining the 2019 election was largely dependent on defeating Bokoharam, trust me, the insurgency would have been history.
It is not lack of capability. Even though we don't have the weapons we would love to operate, we can still manage with the ones we have. The 2014/2015 offensive was with even lesser capabilities and equipment.

Simply put, there is no pressure on this administration to end insurgency in Nigeria...... The other forms of insecurity are entirely different topics.

Don't we have other retired and very competent officers from the MOPOL,IRT,SARS,SWAT and other special police department that can head this our so called Border forces .

Instead of creating another security unit, A border police unit can be establish in the Nigerian police.

I believe a time is coming when some of these useless governors will blame the Federal government for armed robbery, cultism and other petty crimes in their states and use it to justify negotiations and giving money to criminals.

Please what kind of special equipment is required to destroy bandit's camp that the military lacks? The army shouldn't even have anything to do with fighting bandits, where is the police force in all of this? Can you see the irresponsibility of these people?

There are some ministries and positions we shouldn't play politics with..
First is anything that has to do with security and the other Economy but in Nigeria anything goes as long as the "spoils of corruption" go round to those at the top of the food chain.

In no particular order should be reserved for the finest brains and experts in that field we have in the land retired or serving.

The function of a minister is largely political. It is
the permanent secretaries at the ministries that are important and are usually career officers in the ministries they are appointed to. Nonetheless, we should cultivate the culture of putting experts in ministerial positions.

That said, the whole country knows that once criminals near the borders, the chances of apprehending is virtually non-existent.
Border security isn't in our national security plans and that is the root of all the crisis we have.
We all should find a way to agitate for a permanent Border Guards force with the responsibility of securing the border and if possible a coast guard too. The navy shouldn't be too bothered with chasing pirates and neither should the army be burdened with border operations that they can not sustain for a long period because of operations in several other parts of the country.
It is not until every Tom, Dick and Harry has an assault riffle before we start preventing proliferation of small arms.
Proliferation of small arms is the major fuel for insecurity in Nigeria and the simplest solution is a well secured border.

The mistake we all make is that border security belongs to an entirely different ministry not under the ministry of defense or police. It is not their responsibility. It lies with the Ministry of interior and the mandate given to the minister and comptroller general of customs (a retired military officer) isn't border security but generation of revenue. If the government is serious, it will take less than a year to fully secure the borders. But then, even the civil servants working in that sector benefit massively from the porus borders and will do anything and everything to sabotage any border security. Heard the fought against installation of scanners at the entry points into the country.
This administration is no longer serious with security. Their focus is on economy, infrastructure and revenue generation.
Let's just the next administration will be more serious with security.

If ambitious and bellicose countries like Gaddafi's era Libya, Sudan, Egypt etc are the ones that share border with us, we will be licking our wounds all over by now.

Lack of political will to end the Bokoharam insurgency should never be mistaken for weakness and lack of capability.

OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE: AIR TASK FORCE ELIMINATES SEVERAL TERRORISTS, IMMOBILIZES THEIR GUN TRUCKS AT AJIRI IN BORNO STATE

1. The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has dealt yet another blow on insurgents operating in the North East of the Country, with the elimination of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) and destruction of their gun trucks at Ajiri in Borno State. This was achieved on the night of 19 December 2020 sequel to reports that the terrorists, in about 7 gun trucks, had attempted to breach Ajiri, a settlement in Mafa Local Government Area of the State.

2. Accordingly, the Air Task Force dispatched an appropriate force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopter gunships to engage the BHTs. The NAF gunships delivered accurate hits, destroying 2 of the gun trucks and neutralizing several terrorists.

It's painting me that the whole convoy wasn't destroyed. This has to be one powerful BHT cell. I just hope that the other gun trucks are captured. A heavy blow on BHTs mobility and firepower.

Just thinking........ When Nigeria eventually recapture the remaining 4 LGAs currently under Bokoharam/ISWAP control, what next? Is there a possibility that the terrorists will go back to the suicide bombing attacks they started with or will they just vanish? How are we going to deal with such threats as suicide bombings and hit and run tactics? The terrorists are currently occupied with administering and defending the territories they currently hold, when you take that away, what else will distract them and prevent them from going on rampage in several parts of the country? Is there any hope that the ideologies will die suddenly and abruptly m


Let's discuss the next phase of the counterinsurgency war and predict what might happen after the military recaptures the remaining territories.

Farmers and herds men clashes actually skyrocketed but that is because there is no political will at all levels of government to even talk about it talk more of attempting to solve the crisis and it is because majority of the herdsmen actually work for the rich and powerful in our society. Most of the cattles do not belong to the herdsmen. Those who we look up to to help solve it actually owns the cattles destroying our livelihood and they are simply protecting their investment.

Compared to the years of "tactical manurvering" by the army while Bokoharam kept on capturing territories, we can actually say that the Bokoharam crisis has greatly improved. The terrorist shy away from direct confrontation with the military especially where there is a strong garrison and now focus on soft targets and ambush on military patrol teams. The last time they confronted the military in mongunno months ago. It may be because of the raining seasons Sha but still doesn't change the fact that the frequency of such large scale attacks have greatly reduced. It is shameful that we are being defensive though.
Kidnapping is same as before, the kidnappers just moved out of Kogi state to Kaduna and there is more extensive media coverage than before. But banditry has been treated with recklessness and it is far worse than it used to be.

They started with rustling of cattles, now it seems abducting kids is the most lucrative business in town.
Mind you, those who consider themselves elites and the political class are buying citizenship in safer countries.
