Christianity EtcRe: What Do Christians Think Of Rihanna's New Video "Pour It Up"? by wiegraf: 12:18am On Oct 17, 2013
Evil Brain: Right now, Rihanna is the epitome of womanhood. Christian chicks need to watch and learn.

If you want to keep your relationship strong you better start doing what's necessary to hold your man's attention. Otherwise, while you're busy getting fat, reading Christian marriage guides and only having sèx in the missionary position with the lights off; your husband will be fantasizing about sticking it in someone like Riri.
Silly atheist, using your inner compass as a guide. It would be more accurate to say he would be sticking it into someone like riri then asking for forgiveness on sunday, bible's cool with that. Or he'd simply get another 2-3 wives if he were muslim, etc etc
Christianity EtcRe: Our Emotions/actions Vindicate God of guilt -(to All Them Atheists And Sceptics) by wiegraf: 12:09am On Oct 17, 2013
So the fairy tale xter yahweh is as petty and irrational as an angry, human mob. Also, he's subject to laws, eg the laws of reason, and by extension the subjectivity of morality.

Actually, I don't think you'll find many atheists (actually all non-abrahamics) that will disagree. In fact, I think you're well on the path non-theism, or at least moving away from xtianity. Well done. At least I hope so, else you'd qualify as a sociopath if you consider his actions as 'good'
Christianity EtcRe: What Has Satan Actually Done For Satanist(with Reference From The Satanic Book) by wiegraf: 10:28pm On Oct 16, 2013
Reyginus: If that is the case, why is it so hard to provide a link where the answer was provided?
Again, considering this your line, one can also ask why the atheists here keep asking questions about God and all theism stands for when the theists have answered previously something similar.
Don't you think that amounts to hypocrisy?
You can ask me similar questions repeatedly and expect to be treated different. That doesn't make sense, bro.
Let me first clarify this; I'm proud of my hypocrisy, but I'm rarely hypocritical in this manner. I do NOT expect to be indulged all the time and indeed get ignored serially, and rarely b.itch. On mobile atm so can't be bothered with linking, but even my recent posts in the demon sms thread are ignored, yes? Just look at my recent history to verify those. The muslims have their 'operation moving train', whatever that nonsense means. Etc etc

I was even thinking of compiling various issues I and other atheists raise that go unanswered by you guys. You would be well welcomed to continue ignoring them, however, these would be, frankly, justifiable concerns, and I'll always be happy to show you how/why.

In this particular case, he's made it clear (trolls aside) he's an atheistic satanist. As you're a regular of sorts it's reasonable to assume that you should have come across that. Even on this thread he sort of alludes to it. Now, a simple google will show that these are good and proper atheists that simply subscribe to some sort of libertarian-ish/etc philosophy, very simples, and unambiguously so.

This is straight forward, unlike say muslims who'd claim they have no issues with kaffir, yet a simple read through a few chapters of the koran/hadiths patently challenges that. Or you guys claiming the bible isn't literal when there's no good reason to assume so (how do you even know which bits you propose as literal and which not?), and also ignore the fact that the majority of xtians DO think the bible, for the most part, is literal, and therefore there's good reason to address it as literal when engaging these folk. This situation is clear; atheistic satanists don't believe in miracles, satan (literally), spirits, etc etc, end of. No ambiguities.

So what you're doing is akin to one asking you why did you kill a goat on sallah? You aren't a muslim so where did that come from? This is a clear, open and shut issue that one would expect you, being reasonably intelligent, to be aware of

You may have a point of sorts, at least in theory or in other scenarios, but not here methinks. Even allowing for 2 sides to every tale. Blah blah blah etc etc

My concern is that we stay on track. It makes little sense when you expect an answer only to be confused further by an unnecessary diversion.
You may need to slow down. There are different flavors of satanism. He of many ids has always been clear (sort of) of which school he subscribes to, but most of you never listen. Christianity EtcRe: Is This Worth Celebrating, Where Is Our Morality? by wiegraf: 8:08am On Oct 16, 2013
Many reasons, of course. Peer pressure, groupthink, etc, makes people blind. At the extreme end, have you heard of Miligram's experiment?

wiki: Three individuals were involved: the one running the experiment, the subject of the experiment (a volunteer), and a confederate pretending to be a volunteer. These three persons fill three distinct roles: the Experimenter (an authoritative role), the Teacher (a role intended to obey the orders of the Experimenter), and the Learner (the recipient of stimulus from the Teacher). The subject and the actor both drew slips of paper to determine their roles, but unknown to the subject, both slips said "teacher". The actor would always claim to have drawn the slip that read "learner", thus guaranteeing that the subject would always be the "teacher". At this point, the "teacher" and "learner" were separated into different rooms where they could communicate but not see each other. In one version of the experiment, the confederate was sure to mention to the participant that he had a heart condition.[1]

The "teacher" was given an electric shock from the electro-shock generator as a sample of the shock that the "learner" would supposedly receive during the experiment. The "teacher" was then given a list of word pairs which he was to teach the learner. The teacher began by reading the list of word pairs to the learner. The teacher would then read the first word of each pair and read four possible answers. The learner would press a button to indicate his response. If the answer was incorrect, the teacher would administer a shock to the learner, with the voltage increasing in 15-volt increments for each wrong answer. If correct, the teacher would read the next word pair.[1]

The subjects believed that for each wrong answer, the learner was receiving actual shocks. In reality, there were no shocks. After the confederate was separated from the subject, the confederate set up a tape recorder integrated with the electro-shock generator, which played pre-recorded sounds for each shock level. After a number of voltage level increases, the actor started to bang on the wall that separated him from the subject. After several times banging on the wall and complaining about his heart condition, all responses by the learner would cease.[1]

At this point, many people indicated their desire to stop the experiment and check on the learner. Some test subjects paused at 135 volts and began to question the purpose of the experiment. Most continued after being assured that they would not be held responsible. A few subjects began to laugh nervously or exhibit other signs of extreme stress once they heard the screams of pain coming from the learner.[1]

If at any time the subject indicated his desire to halt the experiment, he was given a succession of verbal prods by the experimenter, in this order:[1]

Please continue.
The experiment requires that you continue.
It is absolutely essential that you continue.
You have no other choice, you must go on.

If the subject still wished to stop after all four successive verbal prods, the experiment was halted. Otherwise, it was halted after the subject had given the maximum 450-volt shock three times in succession.[1]

The experimenter also gave special prods if the teacher made specific comments. If the teacher asked whether the learner might suffer permanent physical harm, the experimenter replied, "Although the shocks may be painful, there is no permanent tissue damage, so please go on." If the teacher said that the learner clearly wants to stop, the experimenter replied, "Whether the learner likes it or not, you must go on until he has learned all the word pairs correctly, so please go on."

Reults

In Milgram's first set of experiments, 65 percent (26 of 40)[1] of experiment participants administered the experiment's final massive 450-volt shock, though many were very uncomfortable doing so; at some point, every participant paused and questioned the experiment; some said they would refund the money they were paid for participating in the experiment. Throughout the experiment, subjects displayed varying degrees of tension and stress. Subjects were sweating, trembling, stuttering, biting their lips, groaning, digging their fingernails into their skin, and some were even having nervous laughing fits or seizures.[1]
So most people are fine with questionable scenarios so long as they are told it's alright by authority figures, and the bible/koran is the authority in their lives. A mad man killing his child because GOD!!?? is good because the bible says so. GOD??! making such an 'evil' request is good because the bible says so. Actually, it isn't eveil, and anyone who thinks otherwise is bad and will roast in hell for eternity because the bible says so, etc.

To be fair, many don't even stop to contemplate the nature of the story. Many are simply so foo.lish, they don't actually see the problem. Indoctrination's effects, etc etc. Anyways, humans, most of us, are monsters (simply look at how we treat other animals for instance)

This is fascinating stuff. I have other interesting issues we can explore, for instance, the flood.

Did noah also take freshwater fish with him? I ask because many can't survive in saltwater

Do animals have souls, go to heaven etc? I ask out of concern for the fish, again. As if they do go to heaven, I expect god has made accommodation for them, yes? ie, there's both saltwater and freshwater in heaven I hope.

Why did he even bother telling noah to collect animals? Couldn't he have simply created new ones after the flood? There's no shortage of mud on earth and I believe that's the only ingredient (other than his breath) needed to create new beings. So why didn't he just recreate, with his omnipotence, them as he saw fit? Actually considering omnipotence.....but we can ignore that.

So, was he trying to punish the animals as well? If he was trying to reward the pair of each animal that made it to the arc, did he give noah a list of which specific animals to take? Or did he ask noah to build and collect all those animals simply because he enjoyed watching noah toil needlessly, ie, he was just trolling noah? Or was god simply being lazy.

Indeed, I may open a thread to explore these issues, as we haven't even gotten to how he fed/collected the creatures, but we can leave it at this for now. Any valid answers would be welcome. Thank you

This is my post 3667.... The dawn of a new era after post 3666. I would like to dedicate it to satan, without which we could not have the good things in live, eg sin.

Sin being the antithesis of godliness, which features; slaving and ra.ping; murdering men, wives, children, even dogs and sheep; sacrificing your omnipotent self to save your loved ones from your omnipotent self; blind obedience featuring sacrificing your child; killing people who refuse to kill others on command; roasting people for eternity; punishing children for the 'sins' of their ancestors; your omniscience demanding people beg your omnipotence for everything (pray), and feed your ego every second of their lives, etc etc etc

If I make 6666, I'll sacrifice a goat in His name. Though I understand he isn't one for sacrifices, I think he's open-minded enough to accept this single act of 'godliness' as harmless.

Op, it might just be me, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the amount of people I find willing to use their brains, in this section ie, recently. Theists or otherwise, at least they're not willing to just accept any nonsense and show a willingness to learn/understand new concepts and old, remain objective and openminded, etc. I cannot say there are many such away from nairaland/religion, likely not, but there might be a slim sliver of hope..

I grew up all over the place, but have been in 9ja ~15 years (unlike sensible folk, I did uni in 9ja and most of pri/sec abroad instead of the reverse, *sigh*). Never truly a theist per say, but didn't fully understand my position until maybe a few years back, and this was in 9ja.

Evaluation of obadiahs crazy

Context;
It's practical to assume time is uniform everywhere you are. You never are going to come across a working clock that is out of synch with another working clock, not under every day circumstances, so why assume otherwise? If one showed up and stated otherwise, many would laugh at him and think him crazy. Not to mention wonder why he even bothered to mull over such nonsense in the first place, how does it affect the price of garri in any way?

Despite this, certain people are more concerned (some obsessed) with the abstract rather than the concrete. For instance, they will happily spend all the free time they can muster in worlds they build in their heads rather than indulge in more mundane pursuits like say house decorating. They'd usually consider such trivial; why decorate this drab wall when I've built this fantastic castle in my mind? It even has a rocket which I use to visit mars on occasion. Obviously, these folk seem out of touch to ordinary homo sapiens.

However, here's an example of one such person that was, ultimately, ticking correctly. A well known slacker as far as worldly ambitions are concerned, his was a near extreme case, so much so some speculate he was autistic. Rarely concerning himself with 'petty' issues such as bills or even combing his hair, thus appearing perpetually disheveled. He spent an odious amount of time pondering on the issue of time, his quest beginning with asking himself what would it be like to catch up to light and grasp it. Nonsense pursuit, right? 10 absent minded years later, during which he nearly failed at polytechnic due to the stereotypical apathy and a strong disdain for the mundane, he published his startling results; among many other oddities, time is not uniform.

He'd go on to show many, many other crazy, eg energy and matter are the same thing and there's no such thing as 'flat' in this universe. Just for giggles. He never expected e=mc2 could somewhat be shown true during his lifetime (or maybe ever), the atomic bomb proving him wrong there, in one of the worst manners possible. He never expected any practical benefits from gr either, today it is vital in ensuring gps systems work, but he never predicted that. He made all these discoveries simply because? Simply because. Playing with the abstract was his idea of fun.

These folk, or variants of these folk, all sharing this; a strong focus on imagination, are often the progenitors of ideas and movements. They are the mad scientist and absent minded professor. The variant of this breed more concerned with human, or social matters, are the writers with strong imaginations eg shakespeare, and the prophets, eg buddha etc. All of these folk, often found dancing to the tune of their own drums, in some speak are called 'intuitives'. Note, they are also often mistaken as schizoid or aspie, but these are not the same thing.

Yes, religions often begin when some intuitive or the other thinks GOD!! then tells gullible sheeple his stories. Oftentimes their beliefs are actually genuine, their intentions good, but of course we're all well aware of what the end result usually is, yes? Especially when unscrupulous, often practical subordinates figure how easy it is use these stories to achieve more worldly ambitions

Conclusion (or TLDR, also clap for yourself if you read all that);
Obadiah is highly intuitive (and a HIGH-ly wrong one), that is the source of his crazy.

Other than that, he judges based more on what he finds acceptable, not what society finds acceptable. This leads to stubbornness, carelessness with time, etc. A group of traits that when combined lead to personalities not bothered much with public opinion, or of sharing crazy ideas with the world, just as the mad scientist are. He is likely introverted considering the amount of time he spends online. Extroverts prefer sucking energy from people with face to face meetings. He also enjoys debate and cares little for considering people's 'feelings'. He has no problems with discord, so likely not one of the mushy feelers, or the writing type.

So, considering these, he's likely simply an absent minded professor type

As for women, they're women.

You see, such 'wisdom' you have here is a lot of things, all silly. And I don't need a storybook to tell me that, simple common sense can discern that. For instance, I cannot but note you did not answer anything. You simply blatantly threw a poor cop-out, one that translates mostly to mysteriosnesees. Also, you seem to be asking me to defer to your authority, just because. What is wrong with you? You're telling me 1+1=10 and I should just accept it because? Are you high? Do I look like your slave or something? You expect me to simply believe obvious nonsense just because??

A simple question, can your god build a rock he cannot carry, yes or no? I am trying to save anyone with a semblance of a brain from folly, hope you can understand that?

And again, if you can accept nonsensical claims because of mysteriousneseses, why do you have problems with the op? He has as much evidence backing him up as your storybook; non. Indeed his claim is more plausible than many in the bible, yes? Spirits can possess, yes? It's in your storybook. So why not possess someone at mtn even, then troll for souls with bulk sms? If you insist there must be a natural means of achieving this feat, why can't the demons use unknown technology to achieve his objectives? InesQor: @wiegraf:
Hello to you!

I actually find this sms story less plausible than some of your examples because "possession" requires a human agent (I dont believe in possession, I accept that humans can be mentally unhealthy) and SMS can only be sent if it was pre-scheduled by a human agent.

At the burning bush, it wasn't the fire speaking. The Bible said the voice sounded like it was coming from the fire. Moses was used to Egyptian "magic" (which was likely mostly illusions) so that was a good backdrop for God to reach out to him through his curiousity.

As for Balaam, I doubt it's impossible to conceive that God made him see and hear things, but the donkey itself wasn't talking. The end result of his hallucination thus panned out as desired.

In my opinion, every "miracle" or supernatural occurence has an explanation, it's just probably above the observer's reference point, or do I say: paygrade?

After a while, popular science and general knowledge may catch up, and that's when people will stop saying "It's impossible!" then start saying "Those were cheap tricks". So which one is it?
So whatever means being used to send the sms is natural, we are simply not cognizant of how the feat is achieved.

We now can speculate about illusions today as far talking bushes etc are concerned, knowing a little more about the natural world than the bronze age authors of these stories. In a millenia our descendants could be doing the same with regards to these magical sms'; the demons are simply using/hacking with technology we do not yet know of.

Note, actually even today simple network issues, cons, some sort of psychosis or even a combination of these and more could conspire to produce this result. However, even if this truly were a mystery to us in today's world, you cannot just discard it. You are now obligated to accept any and every single claim, as every single unexplained phenomena can be now be attributed to ignorance.

In other words, every sort of nonsense is now acceptable. So this really changes nothing. Evidence has now become useless.

All that said my problem isn't with folk like you, good ser, it's with sheeple. Though I fear that's a doomed avenue....

GOD!!??:
As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.

Don't get me started on snakes and fires, or any other of the claims in the good book (eg resurrection and fish).

You accept a book of fairytales written over 2000 years ago by people who thought rain was a result of sprinklers being turned on by skydaddy, which contains more fantastical nonsense than the op's claim mind you, as fact, yet you have a problem with the op? Does that not strike you as hypocritical?

You do realize that texts can at least be sent, we can objectively verify that text messages work, and can show you how they work etc. Actual possession of other human beings? Not so much. No one has ever objectively demonstrated possessions, yes? So his tale is actually more credible than those of outright possessions. Devil simply need buy a nokia and he's set troll for souls, no need to possess.

And actually, his claim is inspired by said same jewish storybook you subscribe to, so why are you complaining? Looks to me like he's being a good xtian.

Joshthefirst: smh. At least you cannot refute what he has said. Till today, I asked the troll to give me evidence of evolution. He has not.
Nor will I. Google is your friend, especially when the topic is a very well know scientific topic taught even in secondary schools.
