GboyegaD:I don't understand why you guys think we are still living in the 19th century. Sex nowadays is a very cheap commodity. It's not every girl you knack that you will have to pay bride price for. Knacking most times is for temporary enjoyment or curing konji - by both man and women, most times with incentives. Afterall the girl was not a virgin when the husband-to-be met her . Do you know how many rods have passed through than hole? Why didn't the previous guys do the right thing and pay her bride price? It's because those other guys did not allow themselves to be manipulated. Regretting 10 times more because of what the brother said? Abeg, you be man so? You should learn to protect her even if you guys are divorced because she is at least the mother of your child. You got to apologize to her for the public humiliation. The marriage itself was not built on mutual love and respect but on other extraneous selfish reasons. The girl needed financial stability and the guy needed constant knackering, Nothing else. Outside these the couples obviously hate each other's guts. As for the items you are asked to buy, you don't have to if you don't want to. If his kids will not but him, then his siblings should. It is no custom as he would have been buried but whoever if none of his kids were married. The in-laws have no right to present the guy with a list of demands, as if he is just asking for their daughters hand in marriage. I am sure if they had approached the guy with respect pleading with him to help in covering some of the burial expenses as the family is not doing so well. I am sure he would have done something from his heart. I am sure the wife's family is contributing to the stress in the marriage. |
rolams:I am married with teenage children. I am married to an igbo woman for that matter, and I made it clear from the very beginning that I don't take shit from anybody. I know what I have done for my wife's family, and they appreciate it. I did it all without any compulsion or guilt tripping. Same reason I stopped going to church. I am a fiercely independent minded person, no one including my family could get me to do what I don't want to. Same way I raise my children - to be independent minded. |
rolams:It's you that don't understand Nigerian marital laws. In Nigeria there are three types of marriages - court marriages, traditional marriage and religious marriage. Most couples do all three. Some couples carry out only one. Court wedding is superior to all other weddings according to Nigerian law. Now, payment of bride price is what renders traditional marriage legal. All other things are just ceremonial. No law or custom can obligate a man (or woman for that matter) to be responsible for the burial of in-laws. That's exploitation and an overreach. |
Blackdisciple:That means it's better to be a baby daddy than to be a husband. Being a baby daddy frees you of all obligations of husband, inlaw and even daddy. You are free to be enjoying different kpekus as you like without any obligations. |
DEXTROVERT:They did not ask him or beg him. The inlaws presented him with a list, a demand of what they expect him to do. |
rolams:Which kind yeye tradition is that? Did you ask if that is also his tradition? Or is your own tradition superior to his own? Did you tell him or sign a pre nuptial agreement before marriage, that he will be responsible for the burial of the wife's family when any of them pass on? |
The presidential candidate of PDP for the next election is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wike will see to that. |
DEXTROVERT:Obviously, the OP did wrong by disgracing his wife in front of her family. No one put a gun by his head to marry the woman. He should take responsibility for his decisions. But you found nothing wrong in forcing the man to pay for the casket and other burial expenses of his wife's father, despite him having close to 2 dozen children. |
kevwemike:African culture, exploiting women since the time of Caesar. They counted for you as inlaw when it's convenient for them, but count against you when sharing goodies like property and material things. Igbo culture will ask intending husbands to pay for all the expenses spent on their daughters before marrying or owning her, but after marriage will still ask the husband to help train their other siblings, build house for wife's parents and help with medical and other expenses of the parents. Meanwhile, the daughters have no share of the family inheritance after the demise of the parents. |
flexybricky:Just like how America works, the most serious criminals don't come in through the airports, they enter the country through porous land borders. Terrorists, bandits and ìnsurgents are pouring in the northern borders with the government turning a blind eye. |
Mrfeel:That's true. Just imagine for a second, Kevin Badenoch become priminister and appoints FFK, as media spokesman, him go curse Nigeria and Tinubu pass the way Jesus curse the fig tree. |
LadyExcellency:Who is the seller, and where does the seller get the dollars? |
It seems people like you just wish for the total destruction of the country, probably because of hate, hate for certain tribes or individuals. How can you be proud of importing rice, energy and even cloths (rejected Okrika for that matter), all in the name of looking for cheap goods. iLoveYouToo:Which cover is FG providing for local rice producers? Imported rice is still more expensive than foreign rice. Local producers are just evil, especially the ones backed by FG’s local content promotion. It's foreign importers that are killing Nigerians with substandard products including food and drugs that are angels. It’s only in Nigeria that imported goods are cheaper than the locally produced (often inferior) onesThat's because it is only Nigeria that allows importation of substandard products all in the name of looking for making profits and killing local productions. |
1nigeriamyfoot:Who told you I was buying rickety vehicles. The irony is that the only "rickety" vehicle I bought which was actually the first vehicle I bought for the business is the strongest and most reliable. It was a 2006 Mitsubishi L200 I got at scrap price. Spent less than N300k on it and it has been working for 5 years. I have only changed the engine once. The remaining more recent models are not as strong. Now, how long you car engine last depends on a number of factors, like usage, maintenance and regular oil change. My vehicles work every day for for 8 to 10 hours modays to Fridays, sometimes Saturdays and public holidays. Incidentally they go to Awoyaya (dangote refinery) and Epe from V/I everyday. Most people in that particular line of business change engines or at least change rings every two to three years. Many multinational and big companies sell of their vehicles every 5 - 7 years and replace them brand new ones to avoid maintenance wahala. |
XAUBulls:The public apology was most probably part of the settlement agreement. He should have just said he has forgiven that highly dishonorable guy in the house of representatives and collect his at least NGN 5 million of money as compensation for the verbal and physical assaults he got that night.I think he would have collected more than N5million. The negotiations would have taken place in the presence of his lawyer. The lawyer too will collect his own share. N10 million and above sounds more reasonable. Alternative dispute resolutions are good though because they minimize the long time it takes to get justice in the regular courts. This is the best outcome for both parties. The uber driver gets life changing money, the Uber hevwas driving might be on hire purchase or lease, and the House Member is left off the hook, he was facing legal trouble and house disciplinary committee. |
1nigeriamyfoot:I have vehicles I use for logistics business. I change engine for each vehicle every two years despite scheduled oil change. It's insane that locally produce product is higher than imported oneIt's a matter of grade. Even in the US different grade of petrol are of different prices. Mind you, dangote petrol is low grade compared to USA petrol. Do you even know that petrol in USA get grade with different prices and dangote petrol quality no even come close to the lowest grade of petrol in USA when it comes to quality? How do you know. Have you tested dangote petrol and compared it with that from the US? Even at that NNPC does not import petrol from the US, the buy from Brazil and take it to Malta to blend before shipping to Nigeria, with added subsidy. |
Ykc2:This is because imported petrol is the poorest possible grade of blended petrol, while NNPC insists Dangote's petrol must be to European standard. Malta does not have a refinery. It only has blending facilities. If Dangote is allowed to also blend his petrol, his would be far cheaper than that imported from Malta. |
1nigeriamyfoot:You should advocate for opening up the markets instead of killing local markets with importation. Dangote can never compete with international oil mafia. You thing the international oil traders are happy with Dangote? |
maasoap:Nigerians are their own worst enemy. They want to continue importation of cheap substandard products as against encouraging local production, but will still complain of naira falling against all world currencies including CFA. |
trutharena:But importation is good for the country? When Trump is threatening to impose tarrifs on Chinese imports and encourage goods to be manufactured in the US, our own government is talking about competition with imports. |
Desusi:It seems you don't understand the concept of consent in relation to rape. In the US, you can can jailed for raping your wife. |
Exceed15:So a girl have to be below 18 years before she can be raped? Read the report well before pressing reply and submit. This was what the report said; She explained that the teenage victim, who had recently lost her mother, was offered shelter by the couple in their Ojota residence. The redded part of the quote is the legal definition of rape. It was the girl herself that reported the alleged rape and sexual abuse, and she was medically examined. Nigerians seems to have lost the sense of distinguishing right from wrong, no wonder the country has degenerated into a moral cesspool, while at the same time claiming to be the most religious people on earth. |
DeepSight:I honestly don't think the polls are that close. I can't imagine majority of Americans would vote for a 78 year old convicted felon as president, just to spite the left. I believe pollsters are scared to commit to one candidate because they have been wrong the last two election cycles. They want to be able to to claim the correctness of their polls no matter who wins. Personally, I think Kamala would blow out Trump Forget all the noise trump and his campaign are making, they know they would lose, they are just preparing the grounds for another coup or denial. That's the only way he can remain relevant within the republican party, and probably hope to remain out of jail. |
Throwback:It's not generals that plan and execute coups, it's the lower ranks. Even Sergeants and have been known to successfully execute coups. |
DanielAAA:Exactly! He never apologised to the victim. He only did a justification apology to his fellow humans. |
splendournoni:Since he is human, then the bolt driver must be an animal. This is not an apology its a justification of his actions. It seems this country has descended to a state of absolute lawlessness. Nigerian must demand that this man must face prosecution according to the law of the land. If not, then no one deserves to obey any law in Nigeria. Imagine what would have happened to the bolt guy if he did not capture the assault and threats on camera, I am sure he will be in jail by now. |
Jonjam269:He is very correct. The president lacks influence among the electorate, that is among the ordinary Nigerians. That's why he has isolated himself from the Nigerian public. He only has influence where it feels it matters the most, thar is among the political, traditional and judicial elites. With them in his pocket, he cannot lose an election. That's the norm in many African countries. |
Tinubu seems to be an acolyte or disciple of Abacha. His governing style seems to be from the Abacha playbook. The only difference now is that he doesn't (yet) have a killer squad. He has practically muscled and taken control of the press, opposition parties, the judiciary, and the electoral body. I am sure come 2027, all the major political parties will adopt Tinubu as their sole candidate. (Remember the five fingers of a leprous hand). Wike is making sure Tinubu controls PDP, and Apapa and Abure is tethering Labour Party to APC. I am sure before 2017, Tinubu would bring Kwakwanso into the fold. |
guin:Exactly. Ballot box snatching. Na thump printing remain. |
RodgersAkpafu:Foreign investment houses do not borrow capital at 30% interest rate. Their interest rate most times is less than 5%. So imagine borrowing at 5% abroad and get portfolio(stocks, bonds and treasury bills) profit at 21% in Nigeria. This is a different scenario from someone in Nigeria earning in Naira, subjected to an inflation of 30% but return of an investment of 21%. |
raumdeuter:That's the jib description of a vice president. To carry out the order (constitutional) of the president. She has been tried and she failed, she was made border czar and the border crossings got worse under her, Actually everything she touched got worse. Biden said she was the last person she speaks to on every decision and makes the final approval. What does border czar actually mean? What do you expect her to do as vice president? She can advice the president but the ultimate decision on any policy is the president. She actually told everyone she works closely with Biden and he was very strong and fit, Until.. ..Once again that's her job description as vice president - to work closely with the president. |
raumdeuter:You guys talk like you are ignorant of the US presidential system. Anyway that's the hallmark of the MAGA movement - appear ignorant or controversial. A VP has zero executive powers, all executive powers reside in the president. A president can only delegate somw executive powers to a VP or whosoever he or she pleases. So I don't understand what MAGA mean by she had 4 years. About the tie breaking votes, that's a legislative duty and not an executive function. So you expect a vice president to vote against his/her president and the party in a tie breaking vote in Congress? Has that ever happened in the history of the US? Majority of Americans remember the last year of the trump administration where over 1 million Americans died as a consequence of Trump's incompetent handling of the covid 19 pandemic. |
