Love800: How are your parents using the solar without inveter? It's possible to use solar without inverter by working directly with DC current supplied by the solar panels, but is almost impossible to use solar for normal domestic use without some sort of battery storage. Solar pumps can be uses directly without inverter or battery though. It's just that you will not have water if the sub refused to come out at all for the whole day. |

HenryWilliams: No. The meter is owned by the DISCOs, like all other electrical components purchased by communities or individuals.. It's a useless ACT copied from the derelict era of NEPA and PHCN Then what are you paying the N135k for? Payment for an item should convey ownership or at least partial ownership in the form of a lease. |

Morizo: Get a digital card reader and get a qualified electrician to mount it on the cable directly taking light to your apartment. The card reader will register exactly the amount of units consumed by you accurately. NB: Don't get the manual card reader which is cheaper cos someone can easily manipulate the figures in your absence. Get the digital one. It's not more than 15k last time I checked Exactly! Let every tenant install a digital electric reader.

netmillionaires: So many things need clarification in this country. Another issue bothering me is concerning electricity connection. I built a house for my parent but electricity is yet to get to the area. My parents are staying there and have been managing the small solar installation.
Now while the electric pole is being gradually installed, The community CDA is asking the houses to make payment for the poles and the metal nepa cable that connects the poles before being allowed to connect their houses to the mains. The requested amount from each house is close to #300,000. So I have been wondering who owns the pole and its connecting lines. If it is NEPA, why then do we have to pay that much to connect our house?
Is it not the electricity companies' responsibility to bring their service to the area while the landlords pay for monthly services rendered? This is pure scam! This issue needs to be litigated all the way to the supreme court. Why ask people to pay for an item and yet claim the item does not belong to you? Is the money paid then a donation? |

Brendaniel: You just proved me right, read your statement again and you will know why the country is the way it is...
Misplaced priority, so your house is on fire, because your child committed an offense you will first flog the child before attending to the fire...
Let me just tell you the implication, both you and your child might end up getting burnt inside the house...
Look at Nigeria today the politicians are looting recklessly and destroying the country like fire instead of EFCC to focus on the bigger problem first they choose to follow smaller issues that the bigger problem even caused in the first place...
Ask yourself this year alone the EFCC has arrested over 3000 yahoo boys and convicted more than 500. Did it improve anything in Nigeria?
Just imagine for a second that it was politicians that they were arresting and convicting this way, you think the country will be the way it is today?
Misplaced priority... To me it's deliberate priority. Most cars, gadgets, properties and cash collected from Yahoo boys are simply shared by EFCC officials without any accountability. That's the motivation for putting so much time and energy is pursuing yahoo boys than actual financial crimes. Internet scams should just have a department at the commission manned by IT experts who can hack and monitor scammers. They should have a whistle blowing and complaint section on their site where victims can make complaints and they can commence investigations discreetly. That's how others do it, instead of raiding hostels, night clubs and any location where young men gather. |

FireUpNow: Price of single phase prepaif meter is 135k, you will also pay for KYC and installations. Getting a meter now together with Installations is high. The landlord should purchase the meter or if the tenant does, calculate total expenses then make agreement with oga landlord for you to use it as rent. After paying the N135k, is the meter legally yours? |

So because politicians are stealing money, we should allow yahoo boys to have field days on innocent people. What do you mean majority of u guys on Nairaland? I have teenage children that have never been involved in Internet fraud. I knock it into their skulls how much I abhor fraud not to talk of internet fraud. Having said that, EFCC spends disproportionate amount of time and energy pursuing internet fraud while leaving the main duty to which they were created to do by the OBJ administration. Everyday, we hear yahoo boys being caught, displayed and prosecuted (most cases we don't hear anything after they are displayed), meanwhile, we have not heard or seen one politician, oil thief, subsidy thief, banker, etc and other actual economic saboteurs caught, displayed and prosecuted for over a decade now. |

Mynd44: Why will you take it from the rent when you can buy your own meter, register it in your name and it becomes yours so that when you leave, you can take it with you?
@OP, there is no way to calculate how much you power you use at this point, your best bet is to go get your own meter and register it in your name. This becomes yours and you can replicate it if/when you move out. You don't even need the landlords permission for this This is one issue that has been bothering my mind for a few months now. Who actually owns the meter - The distribution companies, the landlord or the tenant? This question can to my mind when the meter of one of my neighbour got burnt. Ikeja disco came and evacuated the meter and gave my neighbour two options - Buy a new meter at N150k or be put on estimated billing, which is about 80k a month. The landlord says he was not the one using the meter when it got burnt and so not responsible for replacing it. My neighbour asked that if he pays for the meter will he be allowed to take it if he moves to another location? Ikeja disco says no, that the meter is their property. If the meter is their property, when why collected money from customers? NERC needs to clarify this meter issue. |

The way EFCC is going about it, you will think that it's only Nigerians that Participated in Internet scams. There are far more effective ways of detecting Internet scams that is if the Nigerian government and EFCC are actually interested in fighting Internet scams in this age of AI and machine learning. But the Nigerian government is only interested in doing eye service to the west and EFCC is only interested in sharing yahoo boys money asserts seized. |

Omo the guy nearly committed suicide. The money he has been saved for almost 2 years. Is it comparable to the ones the bigger boys aka politicians and their cronies have dealt with us all including you? The amount of money you pay for their own scams runs into millions for each one of us. That is not even putting into consideration the billions of dollars that have been borrowed to be stolen but to be repaid by your grand children. How many kilometers was covered should be the point. 5 days ko, 5 years ni. It is a matter of how many kilometers the car can run on a full charge before requiring recharge. The man said that a full charge will carry him 350km to Lagos. From onitsha to Lagos is over 450km. Then to charge the vehicle from empty to full charge will take 6 hours. Who will wait 6 hours to fill your car with current? Where are the charging stations in case you run out of charge away from home? Before we can start using electric vehicles, charging stations needs to be built in strategic locations. |

lithiumnigeria: Dangote to open gas stations? Refineries in the world need about 3 Months down payment to have liquidity so they can do forward payment for crude. Dangote will only open gas stations when all Nigerian vehicle users can pay their 3 months petrol demand to his station, how possible is that? I don’t think if there is any marketer other than NNPCL capable of that. He needs NNPCL more than NNPCL needs him. Refineries are globally a low margin business. I don’t know who corrupted our brains that it’s a highly profitable venture. Lols, majority of Nigerians think downstream business is tomato business. Flesh and blood did not reveal thus secret to you but the holy spirit. Refinery business around the world is not a profitable business, unless of course you secure a source of cheap crude, either by stealing or other underhand tactics. Why dangote decided to pump in billion of dollars into the refinery business instead of other more profitable and less volatile business is a mystery to me. |

Lagos Colony doesn't believe it should necessarily be under SouthWest.
One can then deduce that, Many, not all, Yorubas from Southwest hv really bitten more than they can ever chew in Lagos Colony The irony is that if the country should revert back to the regions, the real lagosians would prefer to be an independent territory instead of being subsumed under the wider Yoruba tribe. It was Gowon that merged Lagos colony with the wider Lagos from the western region in 1967. |
