PoliticsRe: Terror Watch On Nigeria: Borno Commissioner Denied U.s. Visa ‘over Surname’ by wirinet(m): 9:51am On Jan 10, 2010
Praise the lord, now i hope other embassies take a cue from this and deny more government officials and their families Visa. This would help Nigeria in no small measure and the government officials would suffers the consequences of thier mis-governance and there would be no place to run to in the event of a social upheaval.
PoliticsRe: Us Senate Invites Mutallab's Father by wirinet(m): 9:43am On Jan 10, 2010
I must apologize for for tying the 20 signatures to Mutallab's invitation/summon. But i think you have problems with ethics and i think you have a very low self esteem, for being a Nigerian, If not you would have demanded that the US (including the US senate) accord Nigeria and Nigerians some degree of respect, the way it respects other friendly sovereign Nations. It is very disrespectful for the US senate to issue an invitation/summon to a citizens of another sovereign state. There are diplomatic ways of doing things and i do not think Nigeria had refused to cooperate with the US so far. When we need to "invite"  our own citizens who have committed an offense and have taken refuge in the US or UK, they insist we pass through normal channels and not just issue invitations.
Tell me which other country the US senate had ever issued such an invitation.
PoliticsRe: Us Senate Invites Mutallab's Father by wirinet(m): 9:15am On Jan 10, 2010
As much as i find the attempted bombing unacceptable and unpardonable, we should not get carried away by emotions and press hype.

The senate have no such powers to summon a citizen of a foreign country to answer to it. Can our senate summon any US citizen (especially a prominent one at that). I do not even think the executive has such powers. If they have anything against Mutallab senior, there are proper channels for getting him extradited. If they want to interrogate him, they can only do so through our security agencies here in Nigeria. But i do not blame the US for treating us like shit, when our country is getting close to a banana republic.

So if the 20 senators are able to collect all the other senator's signature, does that mean the Nigerian government is obliged to crate Mutallab senior (Dikko's style) and send him to the US?

Please can someone tell me what Segun Adeniyi is doing in Angola? is it from Angola that we would get press releases (the job he is being paid for) on Yaradua?
PoliticsYar Adua's Incapacitation: What Is The Way Forward by wirinet(op): 12:20pm On Jan 08, 2010
A casual observation of the unfolding drama in the Nigerian political space would suggest that the possibility of Yar'Adua returning to full health and thus to full capacity as the Nigerian president is very remote given the prognosis and diagnosis of his illness. This will in turn create a political crisis as the North insists that power cannot be handed over to Goodluck Jonathan as stipulated by the constitution as this would negate the "gentleman's" agreement they have (with who? don't ask me).

These are the position held by the various sides;

The North; They insist on retaining the presidency as this is their turn according to the rotation agreement and giving it to Jonathan would encroach on their 8 yr tenure. The site the east retaining the senate president on impeachment of past senate president during the OBJ administration and the retention of the speaker's position by the west after the impeachment of Etteh as examples to support their position.

The South south; are a bit divided but they insist on following the constitution in handing over power to Jonathan and would not accept anything else.

The West; The position of the west in the whole matter is not too clear, but some prominent lawyers insists on following the constitution, while some politicians suggests power should be handed over to Jonathan in acting capacity and a Northerner should be appointed as vice, who would take over after 2011 to complete the north's tenure.

The East; The  east had not made known their position but it seems they are just watching as events unfolds.

So what is they way forward, lets hear your suggestion.

Abiola (a yoruba)won fair and square, but didnt make it as president.

In a free and fair election a "muslim southerner" as the highest chance of winning a free election.
Because you can count the 19 non southern states not voting for another christian southerner unless its Obj.

Saraki of kwara can win southern and northern votes along with a northernVP
If PDP is broken- Fashola being a southern muslim and named the best govenor in Nigerian can win, along with a northern VP.
Are you telling me that Awolowo (a Yoruba Christian) did not win any votes at all in the North during the 1979 elections. To win elections free and square you have to build alliances and does not only depend on ethnic or religious affiliations

Wirinet, every tribe can attain that post by merit. But not in Nigeria, it is almost unattainable for several reasons:

1. Population- the North is more populated than the south: millions of southerners left the country for greener pasture and you cannot be in UK, US etc, and still be in Nigeria to vote
That is the lie of the century, the North can never be more populated than the south. It is against natural demographics, coastal cities are always more populated than dessert areas. Nigerian population figures had been a fraud since colonial times. About Southerners abroad, why not push for voting by Nigerians abroad as in done by the US.

Mekusxyz:
2. Rigging of election
This is the main problem in Nigeria, and i do not even think a rotation arrangement can address rigging as seen by the 1999 elections between two Yorubas.

Mekusxyz:
3. Disunity among the south
There is also disunity in the North and east. That is why i clamour for a two party system, so that ethnic voting patterns would be reduced as seen in the 1993 elections.

Mekusxyz:
If all Yoruba vote for their person (as they normally do) that still will not take them to Aso Rock
This is a fallacy, the total number of voters in the 2007 elections is in the region of 20 million (not sure of the exact figures) and that is a grossly exaggerated figure, and i am sure the Yorubas alone is over 40 million in population. So all the yorubas votes can get a person to Aso Rock.
PoliticsRe: Rotational Presidency: Fraud To Hold Unto Power By Northern Power Elite by wirinet(op): 4:52pm On Jan 06, 2010
It was not Rotational Presidency Arrangement that took OBJ from prison to Aso Rock. I had dealt with this issue above.

Why do Yoruba need Rotation before they can become president, are you telling me that no Yoruba can attain the post of president by merit. You are denigrating the Yorubas.

Rotational presidency is Bulls, it will only encourage corruption. The major problem we have is the over centralization of power at the center and that makes the Nigerian president Monarchical in Nature. Decentralize power and the struggle to be president will reduce and people will be more interested in their regions and decides one part of the country would not be able to dictate to the rest of the regions.

I do not understand how rotational presidency is meant to benefit the south. How much did the south benefit under OBJ's 8 years?

I believe the facts you are looking for are in your response above. You believe the North conceded power to the South West because of Abiola (a point I made in my post) because the South West wanted to fight if need be? Do you have the location and venue of the meeting where this "fight if need be" issue was discussed and concession of power agreed upon took place?
There were many venues and many meetings by many different organizations. There was NADECO that was gathering international support against Abacha and for Abiola to be released to assume the presidency. They was OPC that was being modeled after the ANC with Fasheun heading the political wing and Gani Adams heading the Military wing. They were many smaller organization trying to subvert the Nigerian govt necessitating the formation of the strike force by Abacha. They were so many "Gorilla"  media outfits like Radio Kudirat. If the Military had not handed over to a Yoruba man, they country was heading for civil unrest or war within a couple of years.

And as soon as Power was handed over to a Yoruba man chosen by the North, all agitations died down and the organizations died a natural death.

It is only the commander-in Chief of the armed forces that can give an ultimatum or sever diplomatic ties. The only Job of the Senate (with the house of reps) is to give appropriate support.

Obviously, the original poster is not aware of the facts concerning rotational presidency otherwise he would not state it was being used by the North to hold on to power because in the real sense rotational presidency was introduced to prevent just that.

Though not democratic in nature it is a welcome development in our peculiar environment where there is mutual distrust and we have regions claiming that they are being marginalized.

Rotational presidency was introduced before OBJ came to power and it was the South that benefited first from it as the 2 major contenders where Yoruba candidates as a way to compensate for the unfair treatment of late MKO Abiola that won a free and fair election.
What facts are you talking about? Please present them. Where and when did this meeting take place. Please stop twisting facts, OBJ did not come to power because of any agreed rotation agreement, the North conceded power to the west because the Yoruba nation was very aggrieved by the injustice done to MKO and was preparing to fight if need be. That was why it was two Yoruba sons that contested the 1999 elections without any other candidate from the south. It was to placate the Yorubas. OBJ was made to promise that he would return power to its rightful owner after only one term, but OBJ was smart to go for a second term and almost went for a third.
As I said earlier if Rotational presidency was in place OBJ would have made it known to Odilli at the primaries and they north would have just presented its candidates. The rotation thingy was to blackmail the south into giving power back to the north.

my friend it is not a written agreement but a general agreement by all involve, fyi, am not in support of it cos it a very myopic way of looking at the bigger picture. that is why we r in a dilemma now wit d sick president. the north sees it that it now their time, for goodluck to take over then they are being be cheated, and after yar adu term (northern time) it will go back to the south (btw south south and east since the west have already taken their term thru obj).
off course other parties will come out to contest, cos the agreement is not written and not agreed by all, but wait after yar adu then see what will happen if another northern comes out to contest, then you will know that an agreement was in place
My friend, your arguments are still very ambiguous. Who are the all that agreed to this arrangement, were the over 250 ethic groups in Nigeria involved?. It is not this your arrangement that is putting us in this dilemma now, the North had never in history allowed any other group have power without a fight. If there was an arrangement by all sections of the country, there is no way power would go back to the north east, after Shagari, Buhari, IBB, Abacha, Abdulsalami and OBJ. Whether you look at it through Civilian presidency or Military Head of state, the North east has had more than their own fair share of power. It should have gone to south east.

If their agreement was solid, why would other people waste their money contesting and the population waste their time voting?

The rotational thingy was initially not even a PDP idea, because if it was, you would not find northerners contesting during 2003 primaries and you would not find southerner contesting in 2007, but we know Odilli was a front runner in the 2006 presidential primaries and he campaigned all over Nigeria including the North before he was forced to withdraw by OBJ and Ribadu.

If as you said, it was decided before OBJ came to power, why did we not hear of it until just before the last elections? Who were the people that did this agreement, because Bola Ige who wrote all the constitutions of the party then was not aware of such arrangement. If the arrangement was in place, why did Akitu try to wrestle power from OBJ since he had only completed one term?, and had to literally beg Atiku to be able to have a second term. Why did all sections present presidential candidate during the 2003 elections?

You avoid to answer my questions and then make spurious claims about there being a rotational presidency arrangements before the writing of the 1999 constitution.

If you want to condemn other acts of religious extremist in Norther Nigeria, i will have no qualms but you should remember that everybody is affected when religious violence breakout in the north. I support the US in this. I think they should go a step further and bar all senators and members of the FEC. This would help Nigeria by reducing the amount of money stolen and taken to the US. Also these people would have more stake in Nigeria because as things stand today, all government officials have little or no stake in the country called Nigeria. They all hold dual citizenship or at most have a permanent US visa, in case there is trouble so they can run in an instant. They have most of their families in the US. Their children school in the US, so it Lecturers and teachers should strike till "thy kingdom come", they can continue partying. Their wives go to US hospital to give birth because of the scary infant and maternal mortality rates we have, they even go abroad to treat malaria.

PoliticsRotational Presidency: Fraud To Hold Unto Power By Northern Power Elite by wirinet(op): 9:04am On Jan 06, 2010
It pains me when educated Nigerians support this rotational presidency fraud. How can someone say rotational presidency and democracy in the same breadth? Is rotational presidency a part of our constitution or our electoral act.

Please define the exact nature of this your rotational presidency law;

when was it passed by the national assembly?
Does it apply to other levels of governance like the states, senators, house of reps, local government areas or is restricted only to the presidency?
If the OBJ's third term plot succeeded, would we still be talking about rotation?

How come if there is rotational presidency in place, we always have presidential candidates from all regions during elections and not only from one region?  Even in the PDP, we have all regions participating in the primaries.

This rotational presidency is a fraud imposed by the hausa/fulani in conjunction with their Yoruba cohorts to make sure power remains perceptually in their hands or within the grasp of the same elites ruling this country since independence. It was conceived because after the denial of Abiola's mandate by the north through a free and fair election, the Yorubas woke up from their slumber and challenged the North. The north was then forced to concede power to their preferred yoruba, through an unfree election. After his tenure they needed an excuse to take back power and that is where the illegal rotational presidency came in.

As much as i hate the rotational presidency concept, if it was a sincere plan, there is no way it would have started with the north east, which have had a near monopoly hold of power in Nigeria. It would have started with the east which have never really tasted power. But i am sure the north would bring in another scheme to hold unto power once their "turn" is over, they might suddenly realize how anti-democratic it is.

And on behalf of all Nigerian abroad we offer the USA an apology.
It is not the job of the senate to offer apology to anybody (except Nigerians for their gross failures), it is the job of the presidency or at worst the foreign ministry. The National assembly can only pass a resolution asking the presidency to offer an apology to the US on behalf of Nigeria.

•Lists Nigeria among countries with links to terrorism

Yar Adua and Barack Obama

It appears it gets only worse for Nigeria and her battered image after the US authorities last night listed her among six other nations whose nationals and air travellers are now to be subjected to more stringent pre-travel scrutiny. The fresh scrutiny follows the Christmas day failed attack on a Detroit bound plane by alleged Nigerian plane bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab and it further puts the searchlight on Nigeria which has now been without a president for about 42 days. This new measure will affect Nigerians and other travellers landing today at any United States’ airport. Other countries listed with Nigeria are Pakistan, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Yemen and Cuba. The move will come as a serious blow to Nigeria which had been hoping that western countries will not visit the attempted crime of Abdulmutallab on innocent Nigerians. Nigerians had for long suffered discriminatory immigration controls in western countries over what is perceived as large scale drug trafficking and advanced fee fraud (popularly called 419). Minister of Information and Communications, Dora Akunyili, had only last week pleaded with the international community to spare Nigerians from undignified treatment over the incident, saying the wrong of one man should not be visited on the entire country. But one senior western diplomat, who spoke to BusinessDay last night described the move as a slap on the face of Nigeria, one which, he said, will leave an indelible mark. According to the diplomat, “This is not just about the alleged Nigerian plane bomber, Abdulmutallab. The world sees the Abdulmutallab incident as a reflection of the failure of governance, as part of a worrying trend. “This US move must be taken as a strongest message yet that the world expects Nigeria and her government to rise up to her obligation as a regional power. “For almost 41 days you have been without a truly functional government to offer hope and assurance to a watching world and now the US is showing clearly that it is losing patience. After all, Nigeria is not the only country whose national has been listed among alleged terrorists. “It’s amazing how things have changed for Nigeria. Not many remember that only a few years ago, Nigeria was presented as a model by the world which granted her unprecedented terms that wiped away her huge foreign debts. Today that seems like a century away. The reality is that the world does not hate Nigeria. When you do well you will be rewarded”, the diplomat said. The US government said the tougher screening rules for passengers arriving by air from Nigeria and the other six countries are being introduced because they are deemed to have links with terrorism. The new measure will involve what the US authorities called “pat-down body searches and have carry-on baggage searched.” It is coming on the heels of President Barack Obama’s promise “to act quickly to fix flaws” in the US security system.
Nigeria listed in the same group with Pakistan, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Yemen and Cuba? now that is a Joke. Just because one disjointed small boy decides to commit suicide by bombing a US bound plane, 150 million Nigerians are now terrorists or that the government is now sponsoring Al Qaeda.Meanwhile countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (Bin Ladin's country) and Libya are of the terrorist list.

It is even more laughable when you consider that the boy lived abroad and was trained in Yemen, spent barely 30mins in Nigeria and his father raised concern about his radicalization. So what are the US blaming Nigeria for in the plot.

I suspect there is something fishy in the whole episode. It may have been a plot to cal a dog (nigeria)a bad name in order to hang (destabilize) it.
Christianity EtcRe: Yisraylite, You Need To Be Born Again To Be Saved by wirinet(m): 4:02pm On Dec 30, 2009
The records of the British Admiralty testify that James Bartley, an apprentice seaman on a whaler, was swallowed by a whale in February, 1891, some two hundred miles east of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. He survived the ordeal and this is his amazing tale.

It was his first whaling voyage and he was aboard the whaling ship Star of the East.
The lookout spotted a huge spermatozoa whale half a mile off the port bow and gave the cry 'There she blows!' The ship's sails were slackened and soon her small boats were lowered. A deadly race began between the Star of the East and the immense whale.
Young James BartIey was in the first longboat to reach the side of the prey. They crept up from the rear, so near that the harpooner leaned over and rammed his weapon deep into the whale's vitals. As the stricken beast sought to free itself of the harpoon, Bartley and the other oarsmen rowed frantically to get out of reach of the massive flukes, the two-pronged tail which threshed the water to foam in the whale's agony.
The whale sounded and eight hundred feet of heavy line streaked out of the line tub before he ended his dive. Then an ominous slacking in the line signaled the monster was going to surface. But where?
The oarsmen readied themselves to pull for their lives. Without warning there was a splintering crash which sent the longboat spinning into the air. The whale thrashed about wildly, snapping at the men and the wreckage with its huge jaws as the water turned to a bloody froth before he sounded again.
Another longboat picked up the survivors of this encounter, but two men were missing - one of them the young apprentice, James Bartley.
The wind now deserted the Star of the East and for hours she lay becalmed, wallowing in a light swell.
Shortly before sunset, the now dead whale floated to the surface a few hundred yards from the ship. In a longboat, the crew hastily fastened a line to the whale and the winch brought it to the ship's side. The hot weather climate made it imperative that the whale be cut up at once. Having no means of raising it to the deck, the men took their flensing spades and peeled off the blubber as they slipped and slid along the immense back of this giant mammal.
Late that night, working by lantern-light, the tired crewmen removed the stomach of the whale and slowly winched it to the deck for flensing. They were startled to notice movement inside the large sack, movement that looked like something living and breathing. The captain called the ship's doctor who made an incision in the tough flesh. And out slid the doubled up missing sailor, James Bartley, as if he were suffering from severe stomach cramps. He was alive, but unconscious.
The doctor ordered Bartley drenched with sea water, a treatment which restored his consciousness but not his reason, for he babbled incoherently.
Confined to a cabin for several weeks and bound so he could not injure himself in his wild flounderings, Bartley gradually regained his senses. Within a month he was able to relate what had happened to him in his terrifying experience.
Bartley said that as he was cast into the water from the long boat he saw a tremendous mouth open over him and he screamed as he was engulfed by it. He then felt sharp stabbing pains as he was swept across the teeth and then slid feet first down a slimy tube that carried him to the whale's stomach. He could breath, but the hot, fetid odor soon rendered him unconscious and the last thing he remembers was kicking as hard as he could at the soft, yielding stomach. Finally, he lapsed into unconsciousness until he again came to his senses almost a month later.
As a result of his fifteen hours inside the whale's stomach, Bartley lost all the hair on his body and was blind for the rest of his life. His skin was bleached to an unnatural whiteness that gave the appearance of being bloodless, although he was healthy.
James Bartley never made another trip to the sea and settled down to shore life as a cobbler in his native city of Gloucester, England. He died eighteen years after his remarkable survival and terrifying adventure.
On his tombstone in the churchyard at Gloucester is a brief account of his experience at sea and a footnote, which says: James Bartley -1870-1909 - A Modem Jonah.
This story is less incredulous than the Jonah story but it is still not believable. I am sure the story was made up.

The bolded parts represent some contradictions in the story. It was said that the whale could not be brought on deck, so how were they able to cut up the whale inside the sea without it sinking? If they indeed managed to cut up the whale while it is floating, why were they after the stomach, one would have thought they would be more interested in the flesh. If as the say the man was unconscious,  how was he able to move enough for them to notice the movements?

What mechanisms made him to be able to breath inside a dead whale for 15hrs, we were not told be was living inside an air chamber in the whale.

How is being drenched with sea water a treatment for partial digestion of the sailor and was able to restore his consciousness.

It was said that it is hot fetid odour that rendered him unconscious for 15 hrs. in reality, reality lack of oxygen would render him unconscious in 5 mins. Are they telling us that animals remain undigested in a whale for up to 15 hrs?

This is what sailors call, old wives tales.

ElRazur:
Another Terrorist Apologist post. Brought to you by Winiret. [Sponsor of various other apologist post.]

Who are you to give an opinion on his mental age? Please I am keen on knowing your qualifications as a Psychiatrist or similar profession to be able to arrive at such conclusion. Or are you just giving personal views with no basis whatsoever?

I have made comments in another thread about his posting, but I offer an opinion and not try to come across like I know better than people on here, or know something people don't. The bottom line is this based on what he posted so far, it is same to make an assumption that he was in conflict with the modern world and what his religion teaches. Heck, allow me to post a quote of what I said:

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-371719.1728.html

Even I put an IF in front of my views and statement, yet it appears that you think to know something we don't. Why the "feel sorry" stance? A you a muslim or have affiliations with Islam in anyway?

Also you appear to be talking some crazy stuff like how some bombers use remote device. . . . Erm wtf is that got to do with the price of tea of Timbuktu?  huh How long ago was the libyan issue? Tactics have long since evolved my dear.  huh

PS
You really are a joke. He appeared to have made mentioned that he socialised, yet you come on to claim he had no social life. . . .Or give some comments on how he had no social life etc. . . . Damn. You are good.
Mr ElRazur, you are allowing you emotions get the better of you. You must have had me confused with another person; me sponsor of apologist posts? now that is a laugh. Please show me where i made apologist posts.

I am somebody who try to understand why we behave the way we do, and i was trying to understand why a young educated man from a privileged family would be involved with suicide bombing. I was the first to suggest that the boy was emotionally and mentally unstable as a result of lack of adequate parental guidance, and some people here disagreed, but his internet postings had proved me right.

I said people take solace in extreme religious obligations when they are unable to cope socially, physically and psychologically with their environment, If you have disagreements with my postulations then say so.

Finally, everybody knows my religious views, it is not hidden.

In a way i feel sorry for this boy. People fail to see that although this boy is 23 years, his mental and social development is that of a 15 year old. Here is a guy who had no social life, probably does not know much about the birds and the bees, and no family support(not financial), and he decides to take solace in religion. A lot of other people are like that including many Christians (i do not mean they are ready to blow up planes), but some people take solace in religious extremism. Some Christians i know make their religion the reason for their whole existence.

This boy's problems are double fold, he was suicidal and he was an extremist. A lot of Arabs that are extremist but not suicidal would commit terrorism but ensure personal safety by using remote devices to blow up planes like the Libyan bomber. But suicidal ones are those that feel discontented with this world and is in need of a better world, promised them by their religion.
PoliticsAnyone With Proof That President Yaradua Is Still Alive? by wirinet(op): 10:01am On Dec 30, 2009
The Nigerian president was rushed to Saudi Arabia on 23rd November, 2009 and till today no news, and i mean nothing is known about his condition. It is curious that no government official had been able to claim that they have set eyes  on him  or even spoken to him either personally or via the phone since he left. It was discovered that even Jonathan was lying when he said he spoke to the president during the last sallah celebrations.

Our Maradonic attorney general has not claimed to have seen or heard from the president since he left, so also the chief press secretary Mr Segun Adeniyi, He told us that the supplementary budget was  presented to the President by his Principal Secretary, Mr. David Edevbie. even this statement is being elusive as it did not categorically say that the principal secretary actually saw Mr. President or that he was a witness during the signing.

So who can claim to have seen or heard the president since Nov. 23rd except Turai? Why is it so difficult for Yaradua to address the nation by phone?, the way he did just before the elections, when OBJ phone him and everybody heard his voice.

My big question is; If Jonathan can only assume the position of the Acting president and not the defaco president, who will be the defacto first lady?

Sagamite:
Sorry are you saying his father is the only influence in his life? Or is responsible for controlling all the influences without fault? Is the boy leaving a sheltered life? Is the father suppose to track him 24 hrs even when he is London?

Is Hitlers father responsible for the actions of Hitler?
I am not saying that ones father should be the only influence in his life, what i am saying is that his close family - Mother, father, uncles aunties, etc should be involved in a child's upbringing. I for one never knew my father as he died before i was born, but my aunties and uncles raised me with iron fist, the way my father would. My aunty would screen all my friends before they were allowed to be regular visitors to our house. I was not allowed to stay out beyond 8:00PM until i was 17 ( of course i would sneak out at night if i had a night party to attend). She went out of her way to make friends with parents of my friends and occasionally if we commit together, she would call them their parent to report.

Today, i am against the standard practice of sending off little children who can hardly walk off the day care, because the mother and families do not have time to take care of them, then they send the kid boarding primary and secondary schools, either home or abroad, before you know the young man is sent to universities abroad. In effect the child is practically a stranger to the parents.

About Hitler, from what i have read Hitler, like Saddam Hussein had a terrible upbringing and never knew their fathers.
