My only question is since Pa soludo's kidnappers had been found, What about pa Soludo himself? Where is he? |
Akanbi_edu:Yes it is good to take risks, but in the right direction. Lets take risks in developing good social systems, lets take risks in developing a just society. It would not be a bad Idea to take risks in agricultural developments and feed ourselves and not rely on outsiders to feed us, same goes for clothing ourselves. Also lets take risks in developing a brilliant and efficient gas turbines to generate electricity( whether by stealing technology or buying one), with all the associated equipments for transmission and distribution, like transformers and substations. What about the risks of developing our own home grown refineries, i hear the ijaw militants have the local technology to refine crude, why have our petroleum engineers not been able to risk building a refinery - even a mini one. |
toideve:Yes a structure using nuclear energy to power turbines is very much smaller than a hydo dam, but have you factor in the cost of the fuel and maintainance cost in the long run. It is either we buy nuclear fuel from abroad or build another facility to process uranium in to fuel, and that one is even more expensive than the power station. FLOW101:When you factor in radioactive wastes, you will find out that nuclear energy is not as clean as advertised. And its pollution can last for hundreds of thousands of years. |
The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu has just declared that the conduct of the 2007 governorship elections in anambra is against the provisions of the 1999 constitution, and therefore null and void. This finally settles the ambition of our governor in waiting |
Gekko:Thank you my brother, my people loves playing to the gallery, the follow what ever fad the west is into, without weighing the implications on our own situation. There are far cheaper sources of producing electricity in Nigeria. The whole of the Niger Delta can be turned into one big electricity generating industry, They can produce electricity for the Whole of west Africa. Also I wonder if there are no other damming opportunities on our rivers. I hear the contract the damming of Mambila falls had been awarded but yet to be executed by the last administration. Also i wonder why we had not dammed any section of the River Benue. |
nex:Nuclear Energy is not the cheapest way to produce electricity, especially for a developing country with serious man-power problems. The cheapest way to to produce electricity is through hydro power, you do not require fuel, you just dam a river and install turbines. Then the next cheapest way to produce electricity especially for a country like Nigeria that is awash with oil and gas is through fossil fuels. For crude, the only cost you incure is the cost of prospecting and extracting, and then refining. The crude itself is free. Natural gas on the other hand does not require refining, you only need to pipe it to a gas turbine and electricity is produced. All the gas that is flared in Nigeria is enough to provide electricity for Nigeria if not West Africa. But the government is more interested in piping the Gas to Europe. Maybe they will produce electricity and export back to us at three time the price as is done with crude. The problem with nuclear is the fuel, the plutonium required to run the turbines. To produce plutonium our self is a very very technical issue and if we conceive of it today, it will take us over ten years to build the plant and purify enough uranium to produce the fuels. The cost of this would be astronomical compared to the cost of hydo or gas ( sorry these fuels are virtually free). Then the will be the diplomatic dimensions, because the same equipment that can produce nuclear fuel can also be used to produce weapons, and do not think the west or our neighbours would be comfortable with that. Then the main problems is managing a nuclear electricity generating plant, the extremely high safety requirements and the problem of how to dispose of its wastes, and believe me, the wastes are numerous, every thing that comes in contact with radioactive material is waste, from the water to cool the plant, to bolts and nuts that was used . and disposing of it is tricky, because these materials can remain lethal for tens if not hundreds of thousands of years. Even disposal of radioactive waste by the west is shrouded in secrecy. The bottom line is if we are having problems dealing with relatively easy technology of crude oil refinery, hydro-power plant and gas power plant, how do we hope to handle a highly complex technology of nuclear power plant. Even at exorbitant cost, we are not able to perform normal turn around maintainance on our refineries and they keep catching fire. What will the happen to a nuclear power plant in the hands of the same people. |
A Nigeria that cannot build, manage and maintain a simple refinery wants to Build a Nuclear power plant. That is the joke of the century. |
Dede1:I am still yet to understand your grouse with the supreme court. The tribunal after two and a half years declared that Obi and not Ngige won the election and Obi was subsequently sworn in. A little after one year INEC was preparing to conduct another election. So Obi went to the court to determine what the constitution says about the term of office of a governor. And the case went to the supreme court and the supreme court interpreting our constitution says the term of office of a governor should be four years after the date he was sworn in. So i do not know what you have against the interpretation of the Nigerian constitution by the supreme court. If you have a different interpretation please share it with us. Yes we know that the whole shenanigans Ngige's removal was to remove him at all cost by OBJ/Chris Uba for disloyalty, and they were too blind to see the far reaching implication of their manipulations. But that should not be blamed on the supreme court judges. Yes every body agrees that Anambra people that should be free to elect their representatives, but it should be done according to the constitution and the relevant laws, except you are telling us that Anambra should be exempted from the Nigerian constitution. If Anambra people love Uba so much, what stops them from voting him again in an election conducted according to the stipulated laws. He is free to re-contest under PDP or any other party of his choice. |
Dede you are turning logic on its head. Supreme court did not make any pronouncements on electioneering matter. It only ruled on the tenure of a sitting governor. Even if the Appeal court pronounces that Uba should take over as a result of the last election, the matter would still goes to the supreme court to determine whether it is constitutional for INEC to conduct an election 3 years to the expiration of a governor. Another anomaly that would be thrown up if Uba wins at the Appeal Court would be when INEC should hold the next election, would it be 30 - 60 days before Obi's tenure as stipulated in the constitution, whereby we would have another governor in waiting. Or is Inec to wait until n Uba's tenure would empire's. The Appeal court would have to clarify. |
I usually do not comment on Romance and family section but this thread caught my attention from the first page. I kind of Agree with Posakosa to some extent. My advice for you is to move on with your life. The cost of going through a divorce contracted under dubious conditions (deceit) will drain you emotionally and financially. Also you should avoid going to a Nigerian court or going to Nigeria for whatever purpose, because even the simplest task is time consuming and fraught with loopholes and obstacles. I understand the views of people who say you should get divorced legally to forestall future problems, but i insist the probability is very slim. Because i am sure, he also has a lot of issues more serious and implicating than yours, like; if he has not gotten a green card yet ( which is very unlikely), he would still be an illegal immigrant, also he might have been married before, which would make his marriage to you null and void ab initio ( i love those legal terms). Also if he had not been married before, he would need to get married sooner or later, either for real or for green card, so it is more in his interest for his episode with you to die quietly. Unless you intend to run for office in the future, i doubt you have anything to worry about. Let me add: There are lots of hardworking Nigerian men out there, but it is unfortunate you got involved with one of the few desperate ones, seeking to use any one and any method to survive. I do not want you to have the impression that all Nigerians Men are scammers. Lots of American girls have married Nigerian men and they are happier for it. My advice is to use your head next time you decide to marry, whether Nigerian, a fellow American or an Afghan. |
Just Ibori? |
I kind of agree with Falana, although not on the jail aspect. I know our constitution allows Soludo to Join any party he chooses, but i think according to the level of our social development, it is morally wrong for an umpire to be a member of one of the participating teams. By this i mean members of the supreme court (especially the Chief Justice), The Chairman of INEC, The Chief of Police, The Chiefs of the Armed forces, The attorney General, the Central Bank Governor. All should be neutral and not belong to any political party. Their primary allegiance should be to the constitution. |
You people are still here trying to defend the undefendable? Let me ask more questions of Ribadu's motives for collecting the money. The money was given one month before Ibori lost his immunity, why did he not begin prosecution immediately after May 27, 2007 and had to wait 6 months before embarking on prosecuting Ibori for corruption? Was he waiting for permission from above? Also did Ribadu at any time institute a case of Bribery against Ibori or he lumped the bribery case with the other corruption cases against Ibori. Given Ribadu's public image of anti-corruption czar, what gave Ibori the liver to attempt to bribe Ribadu? Since the transaction took place in Andy Uba's house and with his knowledge, was OBJ aware of the transaction? Since Uba was about the closest confidant of OBJ. When was the first time Ribadu disclosed the Bribery allegation, was it after he lost his job? I do not know how people to tie Ribadu's Removal with Ibori's prosecution. Ribadu had already taken Ibori to court before he was sent to Kuru, and once a caes is in court, it has left the control of EFCC. If Ibori's arrest was the problem, he would have been sent to Kuru way before he arrested Ibori, and the case would have been allowed to die without it being charged to court like numerous others. I am not saying Ribadu is Financially corrupt, but i think he is ambitiously power corrupt, he wanted power at all cost and was ready to compromise, blackmail and lick OBJ's ass to achieve it. If third term had succeeded, i am sure OBJ would have promoted him to the post of the first Inspector Field Marshal, the world had ever had, giving the rate at which he was being promoted. |
oyinda.:Did he report the case directly to the EFCC (officially, with documents), or the Police or the ICPC, if he did not want to prosecute a case he was involved with? In what capacity did he deposit the Money in the CBN, in his personal capacity or as an exhibit of the EFCC? Were other senior members of EFCC aware of the Bribery case,(eg Lamode), because it seems the only people aware of the case is Ibori and him only ( maybe with Andy Uba, His Driver and his assistant). |
jay bee:Ribadu was not booted out because he arrested Ibori, or else Lamode and Waziri would not have continued the case. He left his duty and got himself involved in high wire politics and he got consumed. So it was six months later that Ribadu had all he needed for prosecuting Ibori for bribing him?. Besides I thought he boasted that he had a dossier on 32 of the 36 governors, where is it. At least he can let his fan have the dossier, so they can know how much of a good officer he was. i am sure Sahara Reporters would be delighted to publish it. |
jay bee:Was Ibori immune from prosecution between may 30th 2007 to December 12, 2007? ndu_chucks:Nobody is an Ibori apologist and nobody is exonerating Ibori , the bone of contention is Ribadu's sainthood. |
Ibori and their likes are shielded by movers and shakers of that entity called Nigeria so any hasty move by Ribadu would have been a non starter.I am perplexed by all these excuses. Please explain to me how an open and shut case like bribery of an officer, especially if the officer involved is the chief executive office, can be regarded as a hasty move. If Ribadu cannot prosecute a case whereby he was directly involved (and had enough time to prepare), then i wonder which case he can successfully prosecute. |
aisha2:In this era of the internet it is very difficult to lie and get away with it. It is you people (Ribadu's acolytes) that twist facts and propound untenable theories. Efcc arrested Ibori on the 12th December 2007, that was a full 12 months after Ibori Lost immunity, so i do not know where you got your "immediately he came out of office he was arrested by EFCC " from. |
My take on the whole episode is that Ribadu collected the money, to used as a tool for blackmailing Ibori, probably for political gains. Because some salient points were left pending. Like; Why did Ribadu not report a clear case of bribery immediately to the appropriate authorities so that investigation can commence, and the case would then be prosecuted immediately Ibori losses immunity. Or The case can be investigated and the findings ,along with the evidence of 15million dollars, Submitted to the Delta House of Representative and the State judiciary for further action according to the constitution. Why did Ribadu not pursue the case immediately Ibori left and waited for months to be pressured before investigating Ibori for Corruption. Why did he have to lump the more difficult charge of Stealing state money, with a seemingly open and shut case of Bribery (which has hard evidence). Is the CBN the most appropriate place to lodge an exhibit (hard cash), what happened to the Courts or the Police ( that is if he was interested in taking the case to court). Also why is Andy Uba not charged as an accessory to the crime, since he claims that the crime was commited in Andy Uba's House, unless he is claiming that Andy Uba was not privy to the Bribery. After all he cleared Andy Uba to run for Governor. Finally, would we be hearing all these if OBJ got his way, meaning OBJ got a third term, Ribadu became the IG and Andy Uba became the Gov. of Anambra. For all the so called Brilliance of Ribadu, He sometimes act as if he is clueless about standard prosecution procedure. |
chase4:You asked a question of who Oprah is, and i gave you a brief answer. We are not discussing what she is an authority in. She is only expressing her opinion, as she lives in the land of the free. If a star should make a similar pronouncement here, i am sure fundamentalist Christians and Muslims would have descended on her. So she is confused because she does not share the same belief with you, interesting . |
chase4:One of the most That's who Oprah is. |
@ Viaro, Your accusations about drawing hasty conclusions is clearly unfounded. I base my conclusions on information provided. viaro:i honestly do not understand your complaint, when you discuss with anyone you should understand the subject matter, that is the important points in the argument. The part you bolded is highly irrelevant to the discussion. You are upset because i said Abraham went to get blessings from high priest of God. I just do not want to be dragged into the argument of who went to meet who, it is completely irrelevant. but the passage says "who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings" So it shows both met on the way. but if it upsets you that i said Abraham went to meet Melchizedek, then i can accommodate Melchizedek traveling to Abraham's village to pay homage, it does not matter to me. my grouse against the passage is the glorification of war, slaughter and plundering(spoils of war). I will forever never support such an action, whether by Jews, Christians or Muslims. I can never find justification for going to war against others just to kill their kings and plunder their belongings, not even if they are worshiping foreign gods. This was the same thing criminals like Alexander the Great, Hitler and Napoleon did to others, and we all condemn them. Correct me if you did not call Melchizedek prince of peace and at the same time you said he blessed Abraham who was returning from slaughtering kings, and collected his own tithes from the spoils. Why do you not correct my hasty conclusions instead of bringing out irrelevant issues of who met who. |
Christianity and its glaring contractions; Hebrews 7:1-4Abraham (a nomadic tribal king) went into war and slaughtered other kings, and then went to get blessings from the high priest of God (the king of Salem), and in appreciation Abraham gave a tenth of his spoils of war. Then in the same breath they would label the priest that blessed a slaughterer , a king of peace and elevate such a person to be Jesus Christ. No wonder Christian Pastors collect tithes from armed robbers, corrupt govt. officials, Prostitutes, Yahoo yahoo boys, etc and bless them, and the pastors would be called righteous me. It is a pity non Christians without the holy spirit in them cannot understand such contradictions. |
viaro:Point noted! |
Tpia, I agree that i did not read up enough on your link, but you will agree with me that the first picture did not provide adequate base for comparism between Anna Bates and her parents. But the one with her standing next to a man does. I can determine the height the man using her height as a benchmark. The man's height is 6ft 1.5 inches. I always try to verify stories before i accept. Anyway, this story is not really relevant to the poster's assertion that giantism was a common occurrence int he past. Giantism just like its opposite counterpart dwarfism is quite rare among humans, and a case of one giant does not suggest that men were giants or dwarfs in the past. I did not say that 7ft was normal, i said a person above 8ft would find it difficult to function normally without a radical change in its anatomy due to its weight and the effect of gravity. No2Atheism:you take myths and folklore and assume it to be a scientific fact. No archeological finds of a giant population had ever been discovered, it has been shown that all your reference to giants are forged to deceive the gullible. Please provide evidence from reputable archeological sources that shows humans were ever 10ft tall. Neanderthals, a sub-specie of man, was slightly bigger (in fact broader) than the average man today - not 10ft tall. It as beyond belief that you base your entire theory of creation on a folk tale similar to Gulliver's Travels or Jack and the Beanstalk. |
It is painful when Christians resort to outright lies and falsehood in order to propagate their religion. As an evolutionist i am appalled by the deceit and and untruths being propagated by poster. I think the poster should take elementary biology courses if he wants to begin to understand biological evolution. According to elementary biology and physics (gravity), it would be extremely difficult for a human to much taller than 8 feet, after than gravity would take a toll on the vertebrae and the back would bend. You will often see people over 7 feet with bent backs. The photo of the picture of the woman standing between two people is sheer deceit, how can you judge her size when she is standing in front and the others are behind. Obviously, those behind would appear smaller, it is called perspective. The general law of the universe is from simpler to more complex and it applies to biological evolution too. Being bigger does not mean being more complex or else you want to say the giant squid or a whale is more complex than a human. Evolution always chose the most efficient solution and most of the time size restricts efficiency. There is an optimum size after which any increase would affect efficiency. you will notice modern life forms are smaller and more efficient than their ancient ancestors - both plants and animals. Evolution is not in any conundrum, it is you Christians that is in a conundrum. Man had not dreamt of appearing on earth. In fact it was the demise of the dinosaurs that allowed mammals to thrive to enable then evolve up to humans today. The ancestors of humans appeared less than 5 million years ago and your are talking of dinosaurs that died out 65million yrs ago. Please i plead with you to get some biological education or stick to theology. Dinosaurs are no where as complex as mammals even if they are a hundred times bigger. Tpia, on checking the link on the photo, i discovered that the lady was called Anna Haining Bate and the other two were her parents. She is said to be 7ft 5.5in, and they said her parents were average height. still you could not get the height difference from the picture. |
abhosts:so the federal executive council has turned to a court of law now. i did not know that. |
upuphim:I dear Fellow N.Lander, You are right, EFCC job should stop at the court and it is the court that can determine who is guilty or innocent. But the problem was that Ribadu did not stop at the courts, in fact in some cases he did not need the courts. He found some people guilty and dished out punishments, while he found some to be innocent. (Bode George was one of them). He also declared OBJ a saint and was ready to bet his life on it. |
agathamari:Yes, I agree that science does not understand all of medicine and diseases in particular especially viral diseases. I agree with you on the ICE/HEAT age. Most of the proponents of the "we are the cause of Global Warming" had not been able to furnish us with data on the increase in man made green house gasses that have been responsible for the global warming. All they show us is the effects of Global Warming and not the cause. We know the polar ice are melting, we know that sea levels will rise and a lot of coastal cities will be flooded. Yes we have had cycles of rise and fall of sea level in accordance with weather the climate is warm or hot for millions of years. Empirical data shows that percentage contribution of CO2 to green house effect on earth is 3.618% and out of that man made sources only contribute 3.225% of that, the remaining 97.75% is contributed by natural sources. Therefore the total contribution of green house gasses (as per CO2) to the atmosphere by all your burning of fossil fuel, bush burning, ( wild fires in USA, Europe and Australia contributes far more), etc , only comes to 0.117%. As i said earlier water vapour in the form of cloud cover and humidity in the air contributes 95.000% of all gasses responsible for global warming. So lets reduce Global Warming - Drink less water. |
Sharrap, this is the same man that people and civil right organizations have been petitioning Ribadu to investigate and prosecute but Ribadu was giving all kinds of useless excuses for. Others were Aneneh, OBJ, Andy Uba, Iyabo OBJ. Why did he not apologize for negligence of duty before commending the judge. After all the offense was committed in 2003. |
agathamari, I am glad you are in the medical field, at least i know your arguments are well informed. But please do not put words in my mouth, i did not claim claim aids/hiv isn’t real, i am not competent to claim that. . What I sad is that it is a fad, and that the explanations not add up, and also that the information we are being bombarded with in the media does not correlate to what we experience on the ground. And i concluded that it is either the scientists do not fully understand the increase in Immune Deficiency Disorders that was noticed in the early 80,s or they are lying to us. Sorry for the exaggerated the implication of saying that a prevalence rate of 5% would equate to 2 members of of your extended family. You are also exaggerating by saying an 5% infection rate would equate to two people in an extended family of 200, (that would be 1%). A prevalence rate of 5% would approximate 2 people in an extended family of 40. So you see our biases is telling on our calculations. But even at, that i can tell you that the prevalence rate of 5% is greatly exaggerated. Before i arrived at the conclusion that AIDS/HIV is a fad, i had asked lots of people, especially friends in the medical profession and to me the statistics do not add up. Also i us to run a bar and knew loads of call girls, who hanged around my bar for customers, a lot of them had white clients. Believe me a lot of the clients do not like condoms. That was about 15 years ago. Till most of the girls are still kicking. Also I had this Lebanese friend of mine, he would sleep with at least three prostitutes in a day, no joke, he would pick one, finish with that one, then drop her and pick another one. And he did this regularly for the 2 odd years i knew him. He hated the use of condom. So one time when he was seriously sick and hospitalized, we all thought he had HIV, an HIV test was conducted and he came out negative. He recovered and he is still alive today. Believe me there are lots of people that have that kind of life style (Abacha for example). Now do not think i condone illicit sex, because most sexually transmittable deceases can be deadly. I am only after facts So my postulations are that there must be other factors responsible for AIDS outside the sex, needle, etc, reasons we had been given. Even the reports had not shown us that commercial sex workers have a higher prevalence that the general population. Even your admission that you know only six people that have tested positive to HIV despite the fact that you are involved in the medical profession show that the issue is being over exaggerated. If as you said Sex, needles, biting, spitting (if it gets into the eyes) blood, bone, tissue and organ transplants, shared razors or toothbrushes is the prime source of HIV/AIDS, then i doubt if any of us you escape the virus. |
only 17,000 deaths attributed to AIDS in 2008?, then why all the noise? ordinary suicide tops 35,000 yearly, not to talk of cancer or heart disease. |
