A second health worker in the U.S state of Texas has tested positive for Ebola, health officials say. Both health workers treated Liberian Thomas Duncan, who died last week after becoming the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States. Meanwhile, the United Nations’ Ebola mission chief has said the world is falling behind in the race to contain the virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) says 4,447 people have died from the outbreak, mainly in West Africa. Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea have been hardest hit by the outbreak, which began in December 2013 but was confirmed in March, the BBC reports. Anthony Banbury told a special session of the UN Security Council on Tuesday that if Ebola was not stopped now, the world would “face an entirely unprecedented situation for which we do not have a plan. President Barack Obama is due to hold a video conference with British, French, German and Italian leaders to discuss the Ebola crisis later on Wednesday. The identity of the second health worker has not yet been revealed, but officials said the person also cared for Mr. Duncan while he was in hospital. Last weekend, officials announced nurse Nina Pham, 26, had been exposed to Ebola at a Dallas hospital when she treated Mr. Duncan. Doctors at the Health Presbyterian hospital said she was in good condition on Tuesday. SOURCE: http://thenationonlineng.net/new/u-s-records-another-ebola-case/ |
Call it a twist of fate, pure luck or even a trick of destiny but Micahel Achu has emerged the maiden winner of Star The Winner Is reality TV show, with a prize money of N10 million, a brand new car and recording contract with Universal Records. But if not for twist of destiny, Michael wasn’t supposed to be the winner because he actually lost the final duet duel to Job who got 57 votes to Michael’s 44 votes. But Job lost his guts and opted out on easy street taking N2 million escape money, in a bid to get something or nothing, should he lose eventually. Anyways, Michael’s guts and luck held on the fateful Friday night and he is the winner. “This is totally a dream come true for me and my family. I have tried so many times to succeed in my music career but failed, and I am very grateful that at last my persistence and perseverance has paid off, I can’t thank Star Lager and Nigerian Breweries enough,” said an elated Michael at the victory party held on Friday night. “When I was informed about the Universal Records deal, I had to pinch myself severally because I thought I was dreaming. My dreams have indeed come true”, added an overtly excited Michael. Marketing Manager, Alcoholic drinks, Nigerian Breweries, Tokunbo Adodo expressed his delight in the climax of the show, he said, “ Before the show premiered for the first time this season, we promised reality TV lovers nationwide a nail-biting, nerve wrecking and exciting three months and I am sure that everyone can attest to the fact that we made good the promise”. There is good news for diabetic patients. They will no longer need to inject insulin – thanks to a treatment involving the use of insulin-producing cells which Harvard University scientists discovered how to make. The cure could, therefore, be imminent as the scientists have produced large volumes of laboratory-grown pancreatic cells required for one-off transplantation in patients. The breakthrough has been hailed and compared to the invention of antibiotics. It involved identifying how to efficiently turn both stem cell types into beta cells. The cells, millions of which were manufactured, produced insulin, responded to glucose, worked on mice for many months and will soon be used to treat humans. The discovery is the result of 23 years of research by Harvard Professor Doug Melton, whose study of type 1 diabetes was prompted by his son having the condition as a six-month-old. His daughter received the same diagnoses. The cells could be used to treat all patients rather than each person needing their own genetically matched treatment. The cells tested on mice were placed in a porous capsule to protect them from attacks by the body’s immune system, while allowing the insulin to diffuse out. This means the cells could be produced on an industrial scale and used on patients without possible immune rejection, while the capsule could be replaced if it stopped working. A report on the work is published in the October 10 edition of the journal Cell. Online reports quoted Prof Melton as saying: “It was gratifying to know that we could do something that we always thought was possible, but many people felt it wouldn’t work. We are now just one pre-clinical step away from the finish line.” Asked about his children’s reaction he said: “I think like all kids, they always assumed that if I said I’d do this, I’d do it.” Prof Melton said the stem cell-derived beta cells are presently undergoing trials in animal models, including non-human primates, where they are still producing insulin after several months,. The team at Harvard used embryonic stem cells to produce human insulin-producing cells equivalent in almost every way to normally functioning cells. The Telegraph quoted Professor of Regenerative Medicine, University College London Chris Mason as saying the discovery was “potentially a major medical breakthrough”. “If this scalable technology is proven to work in both the clinic and in the manufacturing facility, the impact on the treatment of diabetes will be a medical game-changer on a par with antibiotics and bacterial infections,” he said. Head of Institute of Integrative Biology at the University of Liverpool, Prof Anthony Hollander, added: “This is very exciting fundamental research that solves a major roadblock in the development of a stem cell treatment for diabetes. “The study provides a very elegant and convincing method for generating functional insulin-producing cells in large numbers.” Prof Mark Dunne of Manchester University said: “Overall this is an important advance for the field of diabetes and people with Type 1 diabetes.” Prof Elaine Fuchs of Rockefeller University described the findings as “one of the most important advances to date in the stem cell field”, adding: “For decades, researchers have tried to generate human pancreatic beta cells that could be cultured and passaged long term under conditions where they produce insulin.” Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition that causes the pancreas to stop producing insulin – the hormone that regulates blood glucose levels. If the amount of glucose in the blood is too high it can seriously damage the body’s organs over time. While diabetics can keep their glucose levels under general control by injecting insulin, that does not provide the fine tuning necessary to properly control metabolism, which can lead to devastating complications such as blindness or loss of limbs. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/scientists-discover-cure-for-diabetes/ |
We all know that relationships can be tough. They begin with an awkward dating period where both persons are on their best behavior. After a few months, those curtains start to unravel and you begin to see shadows of the real person. Men often make a number of relationship blunders during these crucial initial phases, and we’re here to help you recognize the ten worst ones. If you’re just getting started in a relationship, or part of a long-term affair, get pen and paper. (Or, you could just print it!). You’ll want to keep track of these tips. 1. Giving a woman too much power. Guys usually get into trouble when they allow a woman to have too much (if not all) of the control in a relationship. She decides when you go out; she decides when you have sex; she decides which friends you can keep; and may even decide what color slacks you should wear to a party. These types of scenarios are classic examples of a man believing that he doesn’t deserve to be with a certain type of woman, or that he is in no position to make decisions on his own. If you’re a good man and deserve a good woman — you deserve a good relationship. Swinging the power surge closer to a 50-50 deal would be more beneficial for you. An even platform feels a whole lot better than a 80-20 deal — and you can’t afford to be on the 20 end of the spectrum. 2. Trying to invoke too much of your own control: Even though it is not recommended that you relinquish complete control of your relationship to the lady in your life, you also should not hoard it all for yourself. Power struggles can create a competitive environment, and there is no place for competition in a relationship. Truth be told, most people like some level of control in their lives and this includes relationships with significant others. You should definitely try to work within respectable levels when it comes to control. Whether it’s your heavy-handed decision-making or a demanding attitude — women don’t like controlling men and a controlling guy reeks of insecurity. 3. Believing that the good you do today will last until tomorrow. Women have short memories. Flowers and candy mean that you love her today — but tomorrow is a new day and a new chance for you to prove your love all over again. A man tends to linger on his good motives and can’t understand it when his sweetie throws a hissy-fit while wearing the new dress he bought just three days ago. Being a good boy scout doesn’t mean you are no longer obligated to do your chores. Keep doing the things you know are necessary for relationship success. Women appreciate good deeds, but they appreciate continuous good deeds even more. 4. Being domineering or overly possessive. If your mate tells you that she likes possessive, egotistical, iron-fisted dictators – then you’re in for the perfect relationship — (If your name is Joseph Stalin). However, most women can’t handle the jealous types and no woman wants to be told what to do. Biblical principles tell us that a man should lead. However, this duty assignment calls for an enormous amount of responsibility and maturity. A man should never believe that his mate is beneath him spiritually, or emotionally – and relationship bonds should not turn women into possessions. 5. Allowing family members or friends to dictate what happens in the relationship. This is an absolute NO-NO. If you are married and allow your in-laws to have any measure of control over your relationship, you are undoubtedly treading on paper-thin ice. Your wife should not be subjected to this either. Even if she allows you to take a bossy tone with her, she most certainly doesn’t appreciate it coming from your mama; your aunts; your cousins; or anyone else in your family. Women don’t like being told what to do (see Mistake #4), and it irks them even more when it’s coming from another woman. You should not allow your wife’s family to make decisions that directly affect your relationship. Everybody has an opinion, but it’s the couple’s opinions that matter most. Outside opinions or ideas shouldn’t be used to influence your relationship bond. 6. Always kissing up. She’s your beautiful queen. A sugar-dumplin’, honey-spiced, chocolate bunny pie. But she’s also a human being. Which means if she commands respect, she also has the ability to return it. Some people deserve respect simply because they exist: a) Your mother – because she’s a woman and ushered your nappy-head into the world. b) Women in general – because they’re women and the Good Bible tells us that we’re supposed to be respectful of the female entity. Outside of this basic level of respect, all other respect is earned. Don’t be so apologetic (unless you’ve really screwed up); don’t assume that she’s always right; and don’t take the blame for something that isn’t your fault. More importantly, don’t place your lady on such a high pedestal that she forgets where the ground is. A truly level-headed sista wouldn’t want to be that high, and may eventually resent being in a relationship with a big pushover. 7. Complacency. If you are not exactly where you want to be in your life (financially, academically, or spiritually) — it’s okay. Women tend to focus more on the future, so you shouldn’t worry about having the world in your palm when you first meet. Over time, most women will expect to see some progress and eventually some results. Try not to sit idle as life passes you by. Even if you’re not the biggest fish in the pond, being tenacious and goal-oriented is all any woman could ask for. If she’s asking for more, you might want to reconsider who you’re with. 8. Choosing a woman based on appearance alone: This is really dangerous, but all men know that it is difficult to look past the sexiness. Physical attraction is extremely important, and men sometimes forget to investigate the other critical attributes they desire in a woman. Since we are from the ‘Planet of Imagery’, male judgment is often clouded in the beginning of a relationship. A man’s interest in physical compatibility may keep him from thinking about those other crucial attributes until it’s too late. Don’t forget about essential qualities like compassion, compatibility, and whether or not she makes any sense when she speaks. 9. Placing someone (anyone) or something before your mate: This includes friends, relatives, co-workers, animals, your car, or your hobbies. Granted, there will be times when you would like to hang with the boys, or occasions when you have extra work to do on some new project. But those things should never hold more meaning than your relationship. When a woman feels that someone or something is more important than she is, you may have problems getting her to respond to anything you have to say. 10. Yielding to temptation from other women: For some odd reason, women are frequently more attracted to men who are attached or already married. This isn’t a good thing if you’re in a strong relationship and have a weakness for lust. Your wife or girlfriend isn’t stupid — she knows that you can’t help but look at other women from time to time. But that’s as far as it goes. If the tempter is cognizant of the situation and isn’t a woman of good moral character — (and she likely isn’t since she’s obviously seeking to tempt), she may not care about disrupting your relationship — especially if she knows you’re interested in stepping out of line. Be vigilant when this happens. It takes a lot of patience and integrity to go against the grain. Being tempted is natural — yielding to it is stupid. There you have it. We hope these 10 tips are helpful for men who are in relationships, and those who are about to jump into one. Just remember — any man can make a mistake once. Any number past (1) and we may have to consider kicking you out of the club. CREDIT: http://brainnewsng.com/top-ten-mistakes-men-make-in-relationships/ |
A UN employee from Liberia who was transported to the eastern German city of Leipzig after contracting Ebola died overnight into Tuesday, the hospital says. The 56-year-old man had been transported to St Georg hospital in Leipzig on Oct. 9 for treatment. He had arrived in a modified Gulfstream jet equipped with an isolation chamber, and was met by a medical team in biohazard suits and two ambulances. The hospital authorities said there would be no further infection, as the hospital has six rooms in its tropical medicine clinic. They said another Ebola patient, from Uganda, remains in a hospital in Frankfurt, and a third, from Senegal, was released in good health from a Hamburg clinic after five weeks’ treatment. The latest WHO update estimates the death toll resulting from the worst outbreak of Ebola on record to have reached 4,033. In Liberia, the hardest-hit West African country, 2,316 people have died. The death toll in Sierra Leone and Guinea stands at nearly 1,000, respectively. (dpa/NAN) - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/ebola-patient-germany-dies-report/#sthash.c9S98zIy.dpuf |

Amaju Pinnick Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) said on Monday that he was ready to resign his position if that would guarantee Super Eagles qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Pinnick said this on Monday when he visited the Super Eagles training session at the National Stadium Abuja. He said he was ready to sacrifice his position if that would make the Eagles win their remaining three games in the qualifying campaign. “We are going to talk like brothers and friends and if there are things that are holding the back success please voice it out. “If you say you want me to resign so that you people can win, I want you people to say it. We are ready to win this AFCON 2015. “Nigerians are so passionate about this game; everywhere I enter now, they tell me that Nigerians will not want to hear excuses. “So, please we don’t want to hear any story; go ahead and prove us right,’’ Pinnick said. The NFA boss further said that the NFA board would meet on Oct. 14 in Abuja to deliberate on the way forward for the Eagles before the Wednesday’s crucial encounter. “Any decision we are going to take at the level of the federation will be at the best interest of Nigeria. “We are not going to look at any decision based on hearsay or media bliss; we are going to take decision based on statistics and records. “Once we are able to get through this match on Wednesday, we will beat Congo in Congo by God’s grace and then beat South Africa in Uyo, which gives us 10 points. “Technically if we get 10 points we will be second in the group; we are working and praying towards that and I believe we will be able to achieve it,’’ he added. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=86051 |
Ten thousand US dollars earmarked for each Super Eagles player culminating into over $400,000 cash was returned to eggheads of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after Sudan beat Nigeria 1-0 in Khartoum on Saturday night. Sportinglife’s dependable source, who accompanied the delegation to Khartoum, disclosed the money was returned intact. He also revealed that NFF men do not want to sack Keshi with this loss stressing that: ” I suspect that because he has no contract, there won’t be any need for such a procedure. They want him to continue with what he is doing until it is arithmetically sure that Nigeria won’t be in Morocco, before his services will be dispensed with. As for the coach, his body language doesn’t show that he would do the honourable thing by resigning. “Let me tell you a story. After the game, people were sad with the loss to lowly placed Sudan on the table. They were angry that Nigeria is at the rear in the group. They booed the players, especially those who came to support the team. Guess what. When we got to the hotel, the fans found the players and coaches eating, laughing and joking among themselves as if nothing bad had happened. “The Nigerians living in Khartoum and some other fans abused them to their faces. The players and coaches were unperturbed. It was so sad. In fact, one old woman swore for them. You needed to see this woman shedding tears. She said she lost fortunes from the loss as many of her customers who ordered for food and drinks went home without caring to stop by her shop. She was a wreck as she swore,” Sportinglife ‘s source said. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/eagles-return-400000-match-bonus/ |

For some time now, Loopy Records honcho, Jude Abaga, aka MI, has been absent from the music scene, fuelling rumours that he was done with music. However, in a recent interview, the award-winning rapper revealed the reason for his absence and why he hadn’t released an album for a long time. According to him, certain changes that occurred within his label were responsible for the break. “Chairman is a song I released last year. The following day after its release, a couple of changes started happening in the label. First was my brother, Jesse Jagz, who wanted to leave, but I didn’t know about it. We discussed it and I understood where he was going with that. But it just sort of changed the dynamic of the label. Usually, when you are producing music and relying on people, you might need some time to reassess and come back, when that changes. So, I was supposed to put out my album last year, but it was a good opportunity for me to reassess,” he said. He further explained that after putting out Chairman, different opportunities came up, which kept him busy throughout last year. “I was travelling all over the place and didn’t have time to record. But this year, we made a conscious decision with my management that I am not going to do anything until this album is done. “I released this ambiguous statement that I’m done. I’m sorry. I just wanted to get their attention. You see, the election season is around the corner and I wanted to put out these images that will tell young people before they start advertising to you to vote rightly,” he added. Spain’s government urged calm on Wednesday over the case of a nurse who caught Ebola in a Madrid hospital as the World Health Organization warned other isolated infections in Europe were “unavoidable”.Ebola deep virus Apart from the infected nurse — the first person to contract the disease outside Africa — doctors in Madrid have isolated five other people and are monitoring dozens more. One of the doctors treating the nurse, Teresa Romero, said she may have caught the deadly virus after touching her face with an infected glove. She had been treating a missionary flown back to Madrid’s La Paz III hospital from west Africa with the disease. “It seems like it was the gloves. The gloves touched the face,” doctor German Ramirez told reporters outside the hospital. The Ebola epidemic has killed nearly 3,500 people in west Africa this year and the World Bank warned on Wednesday it could cripple the region’s economy to the tune of at least $32 billion (25 billion euros). Spain was still scrambling on Wednesday to identify people who came into contact with Romero. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy called for calm and promised “transparency” over the scare, which has sparked fierce criticism of Spanish safeguards. The World Health Organization also moved to calm fears of wider contagion in Europe. Its regional director, Zsuzsanna Jakab, said sporadic cases in Europe were “unavoidable” but the risk of a full outbreak were “extremely low”. “European countries are among the best prepared in the world” to tackle such diseases, she added in a statement. – ‘The mistake’ – Romero initially told reporters she had “no idea” how she got infected. But in an interview with El Pais newspaper, by phone from her hospital bed, she said it may have occurred when removing her protective suit. “I think the mistake was when I removed the suit. I see it as the most critical moment in which it could have happened but I am not sure,” she said. In an earlier recording published on the website of El Mundo newspaper, she sounded tired and groggy but said she was feeling “a bit better”. Romero became ill after caring for two elderly Spanish missionaries who died of Ebola following their return from west Africa. Doctors at the hospital put her husband and another “suspect case” — an engineer who recently travelled from Nigeria — in isolation. Three other members of the hospital’s medical staff were also admitted as a precaution. Authorities have also ordered that the Romero family dog be put down as a precaution, sparking protests from animal rights activists. – PM promises investigation – The European Commission has written to the Spanish health ministry demanding an explanation of how the infection occurred. Officials said they were monitoring 52 people — mostly health staff. They said Romero began to feel ill on September 30 while on leave after treating the missionaries, but she was not admitted to hospital until six days later. Rajoy told parliament that officials would “investigate what happened and why this contagion occurred”. Health unions complained that staff had not been adequately trained to treat Ebola patients safely. Some 3,439 people have died from Ebola out of 7,478 cases in the current outbreak across five west African nations — Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal — according to the latest WHO tally. The EU announced it will start airlifting 100 tonnes of relief aid on Friday to Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea including masks, gloves and medicine. Ebola causes severe fever, vomiting, diarrhoea and sometimes internal and external bleeding. It spreads through contact and bodily fluids. There is no vaccine and no widely available cure, but several treatments have been fast-tracked for development. Several patients have been treated for Ebola in Europe and the United States in the current outbreak, but until the Madrid case all had been infected in Africa. The United Nations mission in Liberia announced on Wednesday a second Ebola infection among its international staff there. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/six-hospitalised-spain-ebola-scare-hits-europe/#sthash.dzlrm93T.dpuf |
ARGUABLY, Akwa Ibom is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state. All things being equal, anyone who emerges as the PDP governorship candidate can be taken as the governor-in-waiting. It is therefore not surprising that the race for the PDP ticket is intense often leading to high-wire politicking, bickering and controversies. With PDP governorship primaries fixed for November 29, those jostling for the party’s ticket and expected succession of Governor Godswill Akpabio at the Uyo Hill Top Mansion have upped their consultations. The aspirants Those in the race include former Secretary to State Government, Umana Okon Umana; former Finance Commissioner, Albert Akpan and current Secretary to the State Government, Udom Emmanuel. The rest are former deputy governor, Nsima Ekere; Senator Helen Esuene; Senator Udo Udoma; Honourable Okpolum Etteh; Bishop Samuel Akpan; Larry Esin; Benjamin Okoko and Honourable Effiong Abia. Factors that ‘ll shape primaries Factors that will shape who among these aspirants picks the PDP ticket and wins the governorship election proper include the zoning formula, charisma and popularity, party platform and voters’ choice. In the PDP, a major factor at the primaries stage is zoning arrangement. The Akwa Ibom State PDP has zoned the governorship slot to Eket Senatorial district, a move that aspirants from, Uyo and Ikot-Ekpene senatorial districts are kicking against. The party’s decision to zone the seat to Eket was taken at an enlarged meeting of party leaders last April, shortly after Governor Akpabio’s town hall consultations with party stakeholders, who agreed to the peoples’ demand to zone the position to Eket senatorial district. In a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s State Executive Committee meeting, held in Uyo and signed by the state chairman of the party, Obong Paul Ekpo, the party resolved to zone the governorship position to Eket Senatorial District “without prejudice to the right of any other person from other senatorial districts to contest for the governorship seat in 2015.” Will this decision hurt or help the aspirations of the aspirants? Umana O Umana Chief Umana, who was SSG until recently was seen as the governor-in-waiting until in 2013 when he fell out with Akpabio. He rejected the position of Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a prime slot Governor Akpabio had secured from the Presidency on the ground that it was a ploy to get him out of the governorship race. He is one of those opposed to zoning and wants the best aspirant to be nominated as the PDP flag bearer. He has the support of some PDP stakeholders and elders. He is from Uyo senatorial district, which is counting against his ambition because former Governor Victor Attah is from Uyo. The governorship hopeful sees himself as the best man for the job. It is to be seen if he would secure the PDP ticket or leave the party to realise his ambition on an opposition platform. Udom Emmanuel Emmanuel established himself as a good private sector player. He left his appointment as the Executive Director of Zenith Bank Plc, to join Akpabio’s cabinet as SSG in 2013 following the exit of Umana. Hailing from Eket where the slot has been zoned to coupled with his rich financial background, Udom Emmanuel is considered to be hugely favoured to pick the PDP ticket. He is from Onna local council in Eket Senatorial District. Currently, his campaign structure, Akwa-Ibom Consolidation Alliance, is spread across the local councils in the state. As a technocrat with leadership and managerial skills his supporters said he is the best bet to continue and sustain Governor Akpabio’s uncommon transformation of the state. However, Emmanuel is being opposed by some leading politicians of the state because he is not a core politician and to them he has played no role in the recent political development of Akwa Ibom and may not ensure the right political atmosphere conducive for rapid development. His supporters insist that elsewhere in Lagos and Anambra where astute technocrats like Babatunde Fashola, Peter Obi (and now) Willie Obiano were given opportunities to govern, the states are the better for the decisions. In a chat with reporters recently, Udom Emmanuel said he is under pressure to run because “the people are looking at capacity, integrity, and proven managerial and leadership skills that may harness all the God-given resources of the state. They are also looking for someone to build on what Akpabio has done for the past eight years and see how that person can leverage on those. Sustainable development That is why I said that once you see uncommon transformation, the next phase is that of sustainable development, and sustainable development comprises what I call sustaining superior performance and that is what we must uphold or else we can just be here and discover that the street lights are no more functioning, the roads are dirty – it happened in so many places.” Senator Esuene The former Minister of Environment and Housing under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration , is the only female aspirant in the race. The senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District (Eket) is the Chairman Senate Committee On Women Affairs & Youth Development. She is favoured by the party zoning arrangement and some Akwa Ibom stakeholders who still hold her late husband and former administrator of old Cross River State in high esteem. Tension in Akwa Ibom over PDP primaries Meanwhile, there is heightened tension and confusion among PDP supporters ahead of the primaries. The leading aspirants such as Udom Emmanuel and Umana have already started thronging the state party secretariat located along Nsikka Eduok Avenue to consult with the party executive as part of preparation for the screening and clearance exercises coming up on October 10. The confusion in the party is linked to the unhealthy rivalry between major PDP stakeholders, elders and Governor Akpabio over the running of the party’s affairs. However, there were indications on Monday that the national secretariat has begun moves to iron out the differences among the parties. Indeed, major stakeholders from Akwa Ibom state were in Abuja on Wednesday to meet with the National Chairman Dr Adamu Mu’azu on the lingering issue to avert any unforeseen circumstances that could affect the structure of the party in view of the elections. At the meeting some PDP stakeholders and elders including former Governor Victor Attah accused Akpabio of side-lining them in the running of the party in the state and trying to impose Udom Emmanuel on them as the governorship candidate. Expression of displeasure However, the governor denied the allegations saying he is a democrat, adding that the outcome of the PDP primaries will reflect the will of the people. Last Monday, some Akwa Ibom PDP stakeholders under the aegis of ‘Elders and leaders of Akwa Ibom PDP’ led by Chief Don Etiebet while addressing newsmen at the NUJ press centre expressed displeasure with the configuration of events in the build up to the 2015 elections. “You can imagine the impact of the absence or inactiveness or decampment of such individuals like Obong Victor Attah , Obong Rita Akpan, Otuekong Sunny Jackson Udo, Dr. Maurice Ebong, Chief Ufot Ekaette, General Edet Akpan, Senator Effiong Bob and others from the party. “They are deliberately shut out so that the governor can run the party as his personal property and so the party is not functioning in the state as it should since we the elders of the party have voiced out our grievances against the state of the affairs in the party to allow a level playing field for all aspirants at all levels to contest in the spirit of internal democracy.” Having initiated the reconcilation process, the PDP hierarchy is expected to ensure that the best person emerged as its standard bearer so that f the PDP will go into the election as a united front. – SOURCE: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/akwa-ibom-pdp-men-woman-akpabios-job/#sthash.2l7t5liy.dpuf |
