Health591 Nigerians To Fight Ebola In Liberia, Sierra Leone by Wisdytech(op): 2:20pm On Oct 09, 2014
No fewer than 591 Nigerian have registered to join the Ebola volunteers group for deployment in hard-hit Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, stated this yesterday while giving updates on global Ebola Virus Disease.

Prof. Chukwu, said there are six countries now having active cases of Ebola – Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, United States and Spain.

Explaining that Nigeria has no active case of Ebola, he said: “Nigeria has had 19 cases with seven deaths, it is not 20 cases as being reported by foreign media. There is no single case of active Ebola Virus disease in Nigeria; no single contact that is at presentl under surveillance in any part of the country.”

He said the ban on repatriation of bodies as well as inter-state transportation of bodies are still in force.

He said: “That ban remains except where approval had been granted by the Minister of Health.

“The established precautional protocols at mass gatherings will continue and the people who had been organizing mass gatherings do contact us and we do work with them, they provide the sanitisers at the venue and we provide the personnel who teach them, assist them to carry out their temperature checks. That should continue.” He added

“As part of Nigeria’s contributions to the international team that will be set up to tackle Ebola Virus disease in those countries, already Nigeria volunteers from different heath professions have been registering with us, willing to join the international force that will go to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to help out with the containment and as of now 591 Nigerians have already registered with us in three registers we opened in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt.”

“Before we allow them to leave, certain conditions must be met, the President has to approve for them to leave Nigeria for them to leave as volunteers.”

“Secondly, they have to be given proper training on how they would avoid the disease and ensure that they don’t get it. They have to be fully and properly trained according to our standards in Nigeria which is fairly high.” He said

He also said the on-going training and re-training of health personnel being conducted by Federal Ministry of Health will be sustained while the laboratory capacity for the diagnosis of Ebola Virus diseases will continue to be expanded.

“We are awaiting the arrival of three mobile laboratories that Federal ministry of Heath ordered as part of the measures to contain the virus and they will be used in other parts of the country while currently we are working on getting installed capacity in three centres to begin to diagnose Ebola Virus disease, we have installed capacity at University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Lagos University, Teaching Hospital Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano and University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu. We will continue to upgrade, we will not relent.” He said.

Nairaland GeneralMachinegun, Heavy Weapons Fire Rock Bangui by Wisdytech(op): 1:56pm On Oct 09, 2014
Machinegun and heavy weapons fire rang out in Central African Republic’s capital Bangui overnight into Thursday morning, witnesses told Reuters.

It was not immediately clear who was involved in the clashes but they follow days of escalating violence between the city’s Muslim and Christian communities that have been driven apart by two years of conflict.

A Reuters witness said he could hear the sound of mortar fire coming from the KM-5 neighbourhood and the streets emptied as people fled fighting.

An international aid worker said she had been told to stay at home.

“Clashes are going on in Castor and around that area,” the aid worker told Reuters, referring to a part of Bangui. There were reports of ‘anti-Balaka’ militia stopping people in the streets and checking people’s papers, “she added.

The mainly Christian “anti-balaka” militia, which emerged when mainly Muslim rebels were briefly in power last year, had called on Interim President Samba Panza to step down.

There was no immediate comment on the violence from the government, the French or United Nations peacekeeping forces.

But the U.N. mission issued a statement late on Wednesday calling for dialogue between the various political actors. It condemned the deaths, injuries and acts of violence but gave no further details.

CelebritiesNovember Date For Fast & Furious 7 Trailer by Wisdytech(op): 8:52pm On Oct 08, 2014
Fast and Furious, will have a glimpse on the trailer of the seventh installment next month, Distribution Company, Universal Pictures has announced, saying that Walker and trailer will shock the world.

After the sudden death of the series’ key actor, Paul Walker, in a car accident, last year, fans of the movie series have been more interested in watching the Fast and Furious 7, which was ongoing before the actor’s demise.

Expectedly, to see Walker again, for the last time, in a big screen is surely an effective marketing strategy for the movie because many have been waiting for this.

Walker’s co-star Vin Diesel, reportedly felt “emotional and bittersweet” after watching the movie’s trailer. “We all went above and beyond to make Pablo proud, but man, I wish he could see what we have created and just how far we have come,” he said in an interview.

Tyrese Gibson, a singer and an actor, is one of the first who confirmed the release of the movie’s trailer on social media. In a report, Gibson, like Diesel, has been emotional after watching the new trailer.

“Fast & Furious fans worldwide… The new Fast7 trailer is gonna drop Nov. 1. We did this in Paul’s honor,” Gibson posted in his face book account. He also said that the most anticipated movie will surely shock the world.

Reports say to be able to finish the movie, franchise producers asked Paul Walker’s brother, Caleb and Cody Walker, who share the same look as Paul, to stand for their brother in the unfinished scenes. Keen eyes will surely notice the difference between the Walkers even with the aid of computer technology.

Aside from Paul Walker, his brother who stood as his double, and Vin Diesel, Fast and Furious 7 will include the majority of the series’ cast. On the other hand, the movie has a new director – James Wan. It was Justin Lin who was credited for the Fast and Furious’ precious success but it was Wan who was responsible for the movie’s seventh installment.

Reports say there is high hope for Universal Pictures, the movie’s distributor, to be able to regain its big investments on the franchise, because according to sources, projecting the potential gross of films these days is rather difficult, especially for major sequels.

Arsène Wenger has refused to apologise for pushing José Mourinho as the rival managers were involved in an ugly first-half spat, while Chelsea were left facing awkward questions themselves in the wake of this victory over their medical staff’s initial assessment of the severity of a head injury sustained by Thibaut Courtois.

Wenger had been infuriated by Gary Cahill’s poor challenge on Alexis Sánchez on the touchline, a tackle which earned the England centre-half a caution, and marched out of his own technical area and across that of his opposite number. Mourinho stood in the Frenchman’s way, ushering him back, with the Arsenal manager pushing him back. The pair clashed again seconds later with the fourth official, Jonathan Moss, duly stepping in to separate them and the referee, Martin Atkinson, subsequently speaking to both.

There will be no retrospective sanction given the clash was witnessed at the time but, while the incident merely served to inflame an already tense occasion, Wenger expressed no regret.

“What is there to regret?” he asked. “I wanted to go from A to B, and somebody confronted me before B without any sign of welcome. B was Sánchez, to see how badly he was injured.” The Arsenal manager suggested Cahill’s foul was worthy of a red card and, asked what Mourinho had said to him, added: “Honestly, I don’t listen to what he says. Push him? You would know if I really tried to push [him]. Come on.”

The pair, who share a strained relationship born of regular clashes since Mourinho arrived in English football in 2004, did not acknowledge each other on the final whistle, once Chelsea had reasserted their five-point lead at the top of the table and condemned Arsenal to a first league loss of the season. “It becomes heated because it’s a big game, big clubs, big rivals, an important match for both teams,” said Mourinho, who has not lost in 12 meetings with Wenger. “These conditions make a game of emotions. After that, there are two technical areas. One for me, one for him. He was coming into my technical area and not for the right reasons, to give some technical instructions. He was coming to push the referee for a red card, and I didn’t like that.

“But no problem. I think Jonathan Moss did a good job, and Atkinson too. I’ve done so many wrong things in football, sometimes due to emotion, but not this time. This time I was just in my technical area and it was not my problem. Game over. Story over.”

Mourinho was less comfortable discussing the issue surrounding Courtois, who was floored after sustaining a 10th- minute head injury when connecting with Alexis Sánchez’s right thigh. Two of the home side’s medical staff sprinted on to the pitch to assess the Belgian and, having examined him for 56 seconds and spoken to the player, were satisfied the goalkeeper could play on. Yet 13 minutes later he had sunk to his knee with liquid coming out of his right ear, was substituted, assessed by a Premier League appointed doctor in the dressing room and taken to hospital for precautionary tests. It was later confirmed he had suffered mild concussion and was kept overnight in hospital for observation.

Chelsea’s staff technically followed the new guidelines set out by the Premier League for this season – Fifa have since stipulated a three-minute timeout should be taken in such cases to make a more thorough assessment of a player’s state of fitness – with the incident merely serving to underline how limited the recently adopted measures are. “He had hospital tests as a precaution,” said Mourinho. “But we think nothing to worry about.

Nairaland GeneralArmy To Fight Boko Haram With Civilian JTF Recruits by Wisdytech(op): 10:56am On Oct 06, 2014

Troops deployed in bid to rescue minister’s relations

The Presidency is weighing options on how to increase the number of troops in the troubled Northeast.

A top military source, who spoke in confidence, said the depletion of troops nationwide, as a result of security challenges in at least 30 states, made the measure necessary.

He said it had become “urgent to beef up troops” in the Northeast.

The highly-placed source said: “From all indications, the Presidency may soon consider recruiting qualified, competent, courageous members of Civilian JTF into special security forces to be well-trained and equipped in the war on terror.

“Rather than arming the volunteer groups who are proving their worth and staking their lives to protect their communities with mere sticks and knives against Boko Haram terrorists, the system is considering proposals from security and military experts who believe recruitment of qualified youths may be the best option against creating militias that could be problems in future.

“Background checks, antecedents and past exploits and contributions of individual volunteers will be taken into consideration to avoid recruiting those with evil and criminal intents into the specialised forces.

“Other considerations include the fact that such local volunteers understand the terrain of such environment and politics of the insurgents.”

Another source said: “It has also been discovered that if members of the CJTF are adequately trained and equipped, they could dare the terrorists in the held communities.

“They had in the past with bare hands arrested Boko Haram kingpins and handed them over to security personnel.

“A lot of members of the CJTF have been killed by terrorists because they are not armed and trained in counter-insurgency operations.”

In videos released by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, he had continued to warn CJTF against supporting the military. He had also shown the execution or slaughtering of captured CJTF members in his videos.

“Many have also called for the recruitment of courageous and qualified young Nigerians who are passionate to build career in the military rather than the jobless ones who join the military only to engage in acts of indiscipline, desertion and mutiny at a critical period of national life,” the source said.

The recruits are to be trained in the use of arms and basic ethics of rules of engagement, among others, before deployment.

Another source spokes of how troops had been depleted, no thanks to increasing security challenges nationwide. “It takes three to four years to train well-qualified troops. The nation cannot afford the luxury of waiting for some years to train troops while leaving security challenges unattended to,” the source said.

Troopswere yesterday deployed in the Adamawa State home town of Youth Development Minister Mr. Boni Haruna to rescue his trapped relations and others at the mercy of the Boko Haram.

The insurgents have in the last 24 hours seized the minister’s Kuburshosho hometown in Michika Local Government Area.

Besides vandalising the minister’s house, the rampaging insurgents also looted many homes and shops before setting them ablaze.

It was gathered that while some of the indigenes escaped, many got trapped.

Among those trapped are relatives of the minister who could not be located as at press time.

A source said: “Troops have been deployed in Kuburshosho to rescue the relatives of the Minister and other indigenes of the town.

“The troops were ordered to flush out the insurgents from the area and Garta, which was also overrun by the sect.

“So, the battle to liberate the minister’s town is ongoing.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “The sect made spirited efforts to capture Kamale but River Kamale which overflew its bank, naturally repelled them.”

More than 10,000 people from Michika Local Government Area are presently seeking refuge in Yola.

SportsAWC 2014: Namibia Unleashes Police On Super Falcons by Wisdytech(op): 6:47am On Oct 06, 2014
https://brainnewsng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/falconet-praying-702x336.jpg
Host Country, Namibia at a press conference held at the Namibia Football Association(NFA) secretariat unleashed two police officers as members of its squad that will face Nigeria’s Super Falcons during the 2014 African Women Championship (AWC) .

Brave Gladiators coach, Jaqueline Shipanga ,named defenders Twelikondjela Amukoto and Iina Katuta in her final 21-member squad for the tournament kicking off on Saturday October 11, 2014 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia.

The list made up of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders and three strikers has regulars such as captain Uerikondjera Kasaona, playmaker Zenatha Coleman and midfielder Thomalina Adams making the cut.

Shipanga, who revealed that it was a tough decision to arrive to pick the final team from the 24 players at her disposal, delayed unveiling her final selection till the last minute to accommodate the duo of Amukoto and Katuta who were away on a six months police training course.

She also showered encomium on some of her senior players for their commitment through out the Brave Gladiators build up to the championship.

“Twelikondjela and Iina are experienced players who always give us options. Katuta can play in defense and also in midfield and Amukoto is such a rock,” Shipanga said.

“As I said before, I worked with these girls for so many years and I know what they can do and they all deserve to be around but the rules are clear, we need only 21. We have the option of having a shortlist of players namely Anna Shikesho and Novata Paulus, who will be ready to ship in once there are injuries or something major to any of the 21 players before the competition starts,” Shipanga said.

“Stella (Rita Williams) and Elmarie Fredericks have shown hunger and desire to be in the team and they made it. They have the experience to add value to the team’s course” explained Shipanga.

Meanwhile, local coaches, Bobby Samaria, Willem Kapukare, Timo Tjongarero, Woody Jacobs and Bernard Kaanjuka were announced as members of the Technical Advisory Committee, which will be headed by the NFA Technical Director, Klaus Starke.

Namibia will face six time winners, Super Falcons in their last Group A match on October 17 2014, three days after locking horns with Cote d’Ivoire.

Seductively beautiful singer, Adokiye Kyrian who has just released the video of her single ‘Back Up’ never steered too far away from the news not because she loves reading about herself in the papers but because she is very opinionated and could not turn her back on things she considers disgusting to her person and principles as a person.

The 23-year old singer has said she is not happy with the way the ‘Limpopo’ crooner, Kcee has been making a mess of his wife in the pages of newspapers and on social media. “

Only in Nigeria a guy will marry and when he makes money he turns his wife into a slave. Look at Kcee, the musician. He is lucky he is not married to someone like me, I would have called on the gods of my village to strike him down for me,” She began.

“ Some guys in Nigeria are so irresponsible and it drives me insane and sometimes I wonder if ever I would want anything with a Nigerian guy. I am too scared of what our generation has become.

When I say turning his wife into a slave, I mean by denying her publicly. It is something too wrong for a responsible man to do. I fear if these young men are truly the people that would become leaders of tomorrow. People who deny their families?” She queried

When she was reminded that Kcee has said in the past that he is legally married to his wife, Ijeoma Okonkwo, the actress rebutted : “ I wonder why someone that is officially married would do that. Kcee says he is not married in a story I read and he explained why he is not married. I pray he is happily married as you said he once claimed”.

Eteng Rajuno has made history by becoming the first student to bag a First Class in Radiography at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). She was honoured at the eighth Induction and Oath taking of the College of Medical Science. STANLEY UCHEGBU (Accounting) reports.

The induction at the College of Medical Science of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) was remarkable. Although it was the eighth oath taking at the Radiography and Radiological Sciences departments, it was special. An inductee, Ms Eteng Rejuno, made history by bagging a first class, the first since Radiography was introduced in the school in 1981.

“Today, history is made in the Department of Radiography. We produced the first student to be graduated with a First Class in the department. And this makes the event remarkable. I will enjoin you to always seek knowledge and make the best of your career,” said Prof Etuk, whose speech was read by Prof Itam.

Eteng had Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.5 – the highest recorded since the institution started awarding Bachelor degree in the discipline. For the feat, Eteng bagged seven honours, including automatic employment in the school after her National Youth Service.

Others best students are Emmanuel Agiande, who was the best in clinical proficiency, and Mabington Okwuonu, best in leadership creativity.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Eteng praised the department’s lecturers and parents for their efforts in making their dreams come true.

She said: “We thank the management, the college authorities, our parents, friends and well-wishers for the roles they played in ensuring that we are being inducted today. We specially appreciate our parents for their financial and moral support.”
