WOW! Congrat to them |
Really? |
http://brainnewsng.com/i-can-do-without-eagles-job-says-keshi/ Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi has shrugged off the issue surrounding his contract extension with the country’s football federation, NFF saying his “destiny” is not tied to the Super Eagles job. The African champions face their Congolese counterparts, the Red Devils, at the Stade Municipal in Pointe-Noire in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match this Saturday which Nigeria must win by a two-goal margin to put life back into their hopes of defending their title. The 52-year-old coach is yet to be offered a new contract since his first deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elapsed after the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil. But Keshi has now stated that contract talks is not an issue at the moment. He added that his future is not dependent on the Nigeria head coach job. The former Mali and Togo manager believes there is life after managing the Super Eagles should he not be handed a contract at the end of the 2015 Afcon qualification. “I don’t think it is proper to say my fate is tied to this (Nigeria) job. My concern right now is the game against Congo, and not whether I will still be in charge of this team after the match against Congo or South Africa. “I think you all need to stop this because my destiny is not tied to Nigeria. I came from somewhere (to take up the Nigeria job). It is wrong to say my destiny is tied here because this country is bigger than any individual. If I am not the Super Eagles head coach today, my life will still go on. Also there are other places where I can go if I stopped being the coach of this country. “But right now, I have a job to do and that is to ensure that the team qualifies the country for the Nations Cup. God forbid if we don’t qualify what will happen? It will not only affect Stephen Keshi, it will also affect you and every other Nigerian who love this sport. So I think this is not about Stephen Keshi but about Nigeria. All I want from my countrymen is to pray for the team and not me because I am just one man,” Keshi told journalists in Abuja, on Wednesday. Keshi has been in charge of the African champions since November 2001 and has overseen more than 50 matches as the Nigeria head coach, including their 2013 Afcon triumph and appearance at the 2014 World Cup. |

By Ekemini Raymond: CALABAR- Literary, the medical centre is a place set aside for medical attention and treatments. Important settings and various establishments can never be complete without a medical centre. The university of calabar was not left out,as they have build and renovated a very beautiful structure, which they set aside and called it A MEDICAL CENTRE. Oh,what a beautiful building, with a hardworking medical personnels, but without any medical reagents or drugs. A visit to the medical centre will not only show, how irrelevant the students health is tongue school management, but will ask so explain how useless the school spends the money we pay inside our school charges for medical fees. I was unfortunately sick and admitted into the center for treatments,my dear readers I tell you, that even the last thing and cheapest thing like needle, was prescribed for me to buy. When I asked what happened to the money we pay for the medical fees,I was threaten to be discharged. When I disclosed my identity to the person els, they secretly informed me that they don’t have anything in the pharmacy, and if I want my illment to he treated,I ought to cooperate. As a man who was in absolute pains,I had to obey. Few days ago, the SUG vice President, Comr.Akapn Inemesit brought a female student in the middle of the night who was said to have massive and severe vomiting all day. On opening the door of the medical centre, the nurse on duty said, am sorry we don’t have any drugs in this place, else you have to go and buy. I shouted,Buy,at this midnight? But because of the life if the girl was at stake, she had to GI out and get the drugs needed for her treatment. This very action made me shock and shows absolutely that the school management dies not care for the students health, and that UNICAL does not have to even administer a first aid, not to talk of a functioning medical centre. The following day, when the director if the centre was contacted to speak on the emptiness of the medical centre, she said,’For six months now,we don’t have drugs. This are things the SUG should agitate for,if truly we have an SUG,she concluded. A very senior medical personnel in the center also added, that it is a pity that students pay for things and they don’t see. He lamented over the emptiness of the center. Meanwhile a very reliable source, who also spoke in anonymity has alleged the emptiness if the center to the refusal of the Oga at the top to release money for the centre’s drugs, even when the other Oga has approved. With this situation of things at the medical centre,I weep for the health of malabites and malabresses who will not have money to buy the exorbitant drugs from outside for treatment, even in times of emergency. And if this with holding of funds meant for vital and pressing issues in the school by the Oga at the top should continue for long,am for seeing the august 2011 incidence repeating. I hereby call on the vice Chancellor to make HEIR WHILE THE SUN SHINES. http://brainnewsng.com/unical-medical-centre-a-centre-without-the-medical/ |
READ MORE: http://brainnewsng.com/new-afcon-hosts-to-be-named-this-week-caf/ New hosts for the 2015 African Nations Cup will be named within three days after Morocco was ruled out amid fears of the spread of the deadly Ebola virus, the Confederation of African Football said on Wednesday. CAF president Issa Hayatou said the regional governing body would talk to countries who were interested in taking over the January 17 to February 8 finals and expected a quick resolution amid suggestions Qatar had been sounded out about hosting the event. Speaking to France 24, Hayatou also reiterated CAF’s stance that by giving in to Morocco’s request to have the date of the tournament moved it would set an unwanted precedent. “Once you postpone this event, it will open the door for everybody to ask for a delay of any competition and we will no longer be credible,” Reuters quoted Hayatou as saying on France 24. “We will hurt our sponsors and partners. Everyone will say we are not ready and finally it is CAF that will pay the price. That is what I told the Moroccans. “We cannot sign our death warrant because if we postpone this event it will be very deadly for African football. For 57 years, we have patiently built this house, which today is the pride of all Africans. “They have this festival every two years and we are not about to leave the opportunity to anyone to destroy the work we have patiently developed over the years. “I cannot tell you where it will be played. All I can tell you is that it will take place.” Angola, Egypt, Gabon and Nigeria were the countries being touted as possible replacement hosts by African media. |
Nigeria is seeking to buy arms from Russia, The Nation learnt yesterday. It is unclear if Russia has granted Nigeria’s request, following an arms embargo by the United States. The military has opted for more aerial bombardments of insurgents than infantry encounters. The aerial strikes have assisted in killing more insurgents in the last few months. A source said a delegation had gone to Russia for talks on the arms purchase. If all goes well with the talks, there will be orders for war planes, helicopters and other equipment. The source said: “The US has refused to sell arms and lethal equipment to Nigeria to prosecute the war against Boko Haram. “The US, instead, prefers to concentrate on assistance to Nigeria to consolidate its democracy. “We have had pilots trained in the US. We train our military pilots in the US. They come to Nigeria for conversion. “The Federal Government has no choice than to look elsewhere for war planes, helicopters and lethal equipment against Boko Haram insurgents. “We have opened up negotiation with Russia for arms bailout. We want to buy military hardwares from them.” The source spoke about the reported training of 1,200 special troops in Russia, saying it is all propaganda to frustrate Nigeria’s moves to get equipment to fight Boko Haram. “More countries are also interested in assisting us. We need this help urgently now,” he said. Nigeria’s Ambassador to the US, Prof. Adebowale Adefuye, on Tuesday, criticised the US refusal to sell arms to the Federal Government. He said: “The US Government has up till today refused to grant Nigeria’s request to purchase lethal equipment that would have brought down the terrorists within a short time. “We find it difficult to understand how and why, in spite of the US presence in Nigeria with their sophisticated military technology, Boko Haram should be expanding and becoming more deadly.” It was however gathered that the US turned down the nation’s request for arms because its laws ban the sale of lethal equipment to nations whose military have alleged worst human rights records.” Another diplomat said: “The ban is not peculiar to Nigeria; many countries are covered by the ban.” The National Coordinator of Citizens Initiative for Security Awareness (CISA), Mr Chidi Omeje, yesterday faulted the US arms embargo on Nigeria. Omeje made the call during a media interaction hosted by I-Nigerian Initiative in Abuja. Omeje said: “The group deplores the cold indifference of United States towards Nigeria in her time of need. This is now the time for the true friends and allies of Nigeria to declare their stand. “The spate of bombings and sundry attacks on civilian targets in the north eastern part of Nigeria is enough to attract global support for the Nigerian government and its security forces. “For almost two years, the US Government refused to label Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organisation (FTO) even with glaring evidence of major atrocities displayed by the group against unarmed citizens. “From our enquiries, it was also discovered that for more than 20 years, United States Government has not endorsed the sale of Western military hardware to Nigeria and this has led to a situation whereby our country always resorts to getting supplies from the alternative market or shop from other power blocks. “How is the situation in Syria and Iraq different from that of Nigeria that the US decided to send in troops and its air force to confront the IS terrorists?” He said it was no longer tenable to keep citing alleged abuse of human rights by Nigerian troops as the reason for the arms embargo. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/nigeria-to-buy-arms-from-russia/ http://brainnewsng.com/nigeria-to-buy-arms-from-russia/ |

SOURCE: http://brainnewsng.com/tony-tetuila-advised-to-drop-political-ambition/ When Tony Tetuila of the defunct pop group Remedies announced his intention to run in the forthcoming general elections in 2015, people greeted his boldness At least, as another entertainer, shedding the bling-bling garb of entertainment to make himself useful to his people of Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State at the Kwara State House of Assembly. But when the part-blond, part-black haired musician came up with his campaign poster, which some said looked more like a promotional poster for a forthcoming music concert rather than a political poster, doubts began to creep in about seriousness of his intent and his state of mind to step into bigger shoes. Even some entertainers weren’t comfortable with Tony’s bohemian looks; Toolz Oniru for instance made a meal of it on her television show. However, news reaching Potpourri has it that the political power houses of Ilorin have told the musician to keep his aspiration on hold and advised him to wait for his turn. Though it is not clear whether Tony is listening to the words of the elders or going for broke to try out his luck. But there is a disturbing feeling if Tony’s appearance hasn’t done some damage. |

The 2013 World Cup-winning Golden Eaglets’ coach, Manu Garba, has pleaded with the Cross River and Niger States governments to respectively redeem the promise of house gifts and landed properties to the team. Speaking on the first anniversary of Nigeria’s triumph in the United Arab Emirates, Garba said it was about time he sounded out a reminder to Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and his Niger State counterpart, Babangida Aliyu, saying the players as well as the officials would be eternally grateful if the gifts are delivered as promised. “Once again, I want to thank Governors Imoke and Aliyu for their moral and financial support to us when we won the World Cup last year but I want to use this opportunity to remind them of the house gifts and landed properties to us,” Sl10.ng quoted Garba as saying on Sunday. He said the team players and officials are hopeful that the governors’ pledges would be fulfilled before the expiration of their term in 2015. “Though we have had assurances, I just want to remind our amiable governors that we are still waiting for these gifts,” he stated. Three persons have been feared dead and over 20 injured in a stampede during the inauguration of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo. Apart from the stampede which led to the death of the affected people, security men at the gate dispensed tear gas canisters on those trying to gain entry into the stadium. Our correspondent learnt in Uyo on Friday that some of those who sustained injury during the stampede lay for several minutes while the medical team at the stadium had yet to attend to their cases. One of the injured victims, Mr. Wisdom Amaowo, said he was pushed inside the gate by a security operative who also dispensed tear gas canisters on him. He said, “After the policeman dispensed the tear gas canisters on me, I became unconscious and did not know when I was moved to where you now see me. “Right now, I cannot bend; you can see many bruises and cut on my arms, legs and other parts of my body. “Since I have been brought here, there is no one from the medical section of the stadium that has come to my aid.” The state Commissioner for Health, Mr. Emem-Abasi Bassey, confirmed the incident, but said no dead had been recorded. He stated that he was aware of the situation at the gate as many people, both those with tickets and those without the tickets were trying to gain entry into the gates. Bassey added that 150 medical personnel were on ground to attend to injured victims. “We have just revived a woman whose condition was terrible as a result of the stampede. We are completely in control of the situation,” he said. The commissioner, however, attributed the stampede to excitement as many people wanted to gain access to the stadium at all. http://www.punchng.com/news/three-feared-dead-20-injured-in-uyo-stadium-stampede/ http://brainnewsng.com/three-feared-dead-20-injured-in-uyo-stadium-stampede/ |
