Oprah Winfrey reveals why she doesn’t have kids in the latest issue of the Hollywood Reporter. However, it has nothing to do with being unable to conceive as some claimed but her ambition to be a powerful woman “If I had kids, my kids would hate me. “They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something in my life would have had to suffer and it would’ve probably been them. Gayle [King, Winfrey's best friend and now a mother of two] was the kind of kid who, in seventh grade Home Ec class, was writing down her name and the names of her children. While she was having those kind of daydreams, I was having daydreams about how I could be Martin Luther King.” CULLED FROM: http://www.afritunez.com/news-2/oprah-winfrey-opens-up-on-why-she-never-had-children

BY SIMON EBEGBULEM BENIN— SPEAKER of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Uyi Igbe, yesterday, declared that the House was proud of the infrastructure development Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration has put in place in the three senatorial districts of the state. This comes as the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Philip Shuaibu, recounted how the media saved his life at Kuje prison in Abuja, during the military era, and urged the National Assembly to make laws to take care of the welfare of journalists and protection of the media in the country. Speaker Igbe, who spoke at the House of Assembly quarters, when the Majority Leader, Shuaibu, had a breakfast session with journalists, said the House had in the past five years, given support to the executive due to its belief that Oshiomhole was capable of managing the resources of the state prudently. “We were elected to ensure development for our people and I am glad to say that we have been doing that so far and we are satisfied with the developmental stride of the governor,” he said. Also speaking, Shuaibu, who maintained that without the media, there would be no democracy in Nigeria, recalled that “when some of us were arrested by the military when I was a students’ union leader, it was a journalist that found out that we were kept in Kuje prisons and wrote the story. That was why some of us are still alive today. “So that is why I want to appeal to the National Assembly to make a law that will not only enhance the welfare of journalists but also protect them in their jobs.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/12/proud-oshiomholes-stewardship-edo-speaker/#sthash.4cSSD2k6.dpuf |
I write today as a product of history and a former leader of Nigerian students to pay tribute to a man who rose from a fairly modest background to champion an inspiring legacy for Akwa Ibom State and for my generation. Governor Godswill Akpabio, CON, has become an icon of this generation, a champion of uncommon transformation, a true leader and a dynamic manager of people, resources and processes. Nigerian students and former students’ leaders cannot but reckon with you; we are proud that you are one of us, being a former students’ leader yourself. Your Excellency, your administration has gone on record as the most student friendly administration Akwa Ibom State has ever had. This administration’s student-friendly policy interventions include, but are not limited to, the free, compulsory and qualitative education scheme, overhaul of school infrastructure in hundreds of primary and secondary schools across the state, infrastructure rehabilitation and support grants to the University of Uyo and other tertiary institutions in the state, take-off and scaled-up funding for the Akwa Ibom State University and consistent bursary and scholarship opportunities for students of the state origin, including grants and laptops to Akwa Ibom State students at the Nigerian Law School. Your tenure has also seen the emergence of leading Akwa Ibom State students into prominent offices in the students and youth movement nationally. We have also witnessed the appointment of an unprecedented number of former student leaders to serve in political offices, a salutary trend in leadership development. One of my greatest reasons for excitement is that your birthday holds on the wings of the 16 Days of Action on Violence against Women, which is usually celebrated the world over from November 25 to December 10 every year to draw attention to the violation of women’s rights at home, at school, at work and on the streets. When several years ago, we were laying the foundations of the Nigerian Female Students Leadership Forum; our mission was to build the capacity of girls and young women in our campuses as champions of social change and their own rights. In the past, students’ and youth leadership used to be an all-men affair. Today I am happy to see that the girls and young women are not just ably represented in the movement but more so in leadership capacities. Through laws, policies and the composition of your administration, you have shown that you are a champion of women’s rights. I am a living testimony of your investment in the development of women. Our young men in the students’ movement have a huge lesson to learn from our Governor. In making these remarks, I cannot fail to appreciate the role of the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, a woman who has not only personally mentored me in diverse areas, but has also taken under her wings, the entire Nigerian students movement in Akwa Ibom State. She intervenes during critical junctures to ensure that conflicts are amicably resolved, and that the younger generation stays focused and politically mobilized for their present and future leadership roles. We remain ever grateful, ma’am. When the history of this state is finally written, one of the most important chapters will be reserved for her roles not only in supporting the father of uncommon transformation but also in leaving her own compassionate legacies in the hearts of our people. We remain grateful to this Amazon. At 51, Your Excellency, yours is a rendezvous with history, a tryst with destiny and a messianic pact with mankind. In all these, you stand tall as a first among equals. By your exemplary leadership, you have vindicated Frantz Fanon who once quipped: “Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill, or betray it.” Yes, you are indeed fulfilling your mission. But above all, you have challenged the rest of us, to do likewise, if not more. Because you are one of us, Your Excellency, we are indeed inspired to stand up for our generation, following in your footsteps! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOUR EXCELLENCY!!! FOR YOUR MORNING: BUT PLEASE IF YoUR NAME is #Lovina, please dont read it again, because i believe you might had known it already: Why do you love me? *Lady: Why do you like me..? Why do you love me? **Man : I can’t tell you the reason. But I really like you… *Lady : You can’t even tell me the reason… How can you say you like me? How can you say you love me? **Man : I really don’t know the reason, but I can prove that I love you. *Lady : Proof? No! I want you to tell me the reason. My friend’s boyfriend can tell her why he loves her but not you! **Man : Ok.. Ok! Erm… Because you are beautiful, Because your voice is sweet, Because you are caring, Because you are loving, Because you are thoughtful, Because of your smile, The lady felt very satisfied with the man’s answer. Unfortunately a few days later, the Lady met with an accident and went into a coma. The Guy placed a letter by her side as follows. Darling, I love you because of your sweet voice. However, can you talk now? No! Therefore I cannot love you. I like you because of your care and concern for me.However, now that you cannot show them, therefore I cannot love you. I love you because of your smile However, can you smile now? Can you move? No, therefore, I cannot love you. If love needs a reason, like now, there is no reason for me to love you anymore. Does love need a reason? NO! Therefore, I still love you. And love doesn’t need a reason With love always, Forever yours. |

Once in a Life time, there live a young couple who lived in a town filled with crime. After three neighbors houses had been robbed, the couple decided to get a guard dog. The next day the wife went to the pet store and said, `I need a good guard dog.` The clerk replied, `Sorry,we`re all sold out. All we have left is this little Scottie dog. But he knows karate.` The wife didn`t believe him so he said to the dog, `Karate that chair.` The dog went up to the chair and broke it into pieces, then he said to the dog, `Karate that table.`... The dog went up to the table and broke it in half. She bought the dog and took it home to her husband who was expecting a big guard dog. But then she told her husband that it knew karate, and he said `Karate my ass!`? |
On the subject of my former boss, President Obasanjo's letter, my thoughts are as follows: Our priorities must be lasting solutions to unemployment, safety & security for all, vastly improving our failing education systems. President Jonathan's government has consistently failed to address these critical concerns. That said, I have firmly fought for a democracy in Nigeria where the voters choose their future leaders, not political party bosses and godfathers. If the President insists on destroying PDP & thinks his record of unemployment, violence, scandals is worthy, he is welcome to run again. I am confident Nigerians can, and will exercise their democratic right to choose the leadership they desire in 2015. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10152072163359640&id=14312764639&_rdr#10152072199539640 |
