There was pandemonium on Tuesday morning at the prestigious University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka, Lagos following the protest of some Creative Arts students of the institution against sexual harassment and other allegations of misconduct by the university lecturers and other officials.

DailyPost gathered from a reliable source that the students in their hundreds stormed the Arts block with placards to register their grievances and later moved their protest to the Social Science Department.

It was gathered that lecturers in the Department have made life miserable for female students by making sex one of the major criteria for passing their examination.

However, male students who obviously cannot offer sexual favours to their lecturers are made to part with exorbitant sums of money in place of sex.

Management of UNILAG is yet to respond to the allegations as at the time of filing this report. SOURCE: http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/06/27/unilag-female-students-protest-against-randy-male-lecturers-photos/

Health53-year-old Woman Gives Birth To Twins After 20 Years Of Childlessness by Wisdytech(op): 7:55am On Jun 30, 2013
It was an overwhelming joy in St Ives Hospital, Lagos when a 53-year-old woman, (names withheld) was recently delivered of two bouncing baby boys.

The woman was conceived through Invitro Fertilisation,IVF, after having struggled for over 20 years without a child.

IVF is a process by which an egg is fertilised by sperm in the body. The process involves monitoring a woman’s ovulatory process, removing ovum or ova (egg or eggs) from the woman’s ovaries
and letting the sperm fertilise them in a fluid medium in a laboratory.

The fertilised egg (zygote) is then transferred to the patient’s uterus (womb) after three to five days of being in the incubator, with the intention of
establishing a successful pregnancy.

The elated woman, who pleaded anonymity, probably for cultural reasons, described it as “20 years of tensed
waiting for her marriage to produce fruits.”

The jubilant nursing mother and her husband said they were not after publicity but decided to speak to
the press in order to encourage couple who are presently facing similar challenges in their marriage, so they don’t give up, adding that it is never too late for anyone.

She admitted that she has almost giving up when it was obvious that menopause had set in, but continued to exercise her religious faith, until according to her, God directed her to St Ives Centre,
even when she was not having the required money to carry out the IVF circle.

“If one is in a marriage for two – three years, and has no child to show for it, as an African, there will be pressure, so mine was not exceptional. Though my people respected my person, there were pressures both from within and outside.

But l held on to God because I’m a strong Christian and l know He never fails. I serve a living God who is faithful despite our unfaithfulness.

“I heard about St. Ives just by chance. That was in September last year. Coincidentally, l did my Masters programme at Obafemi Awolowo University,OAU, very close to the hospital, and l never knew this place existed. It was divine and all things work together for those that love God.

“My advice to every woman wanting fruit of the womb is that they should hold on to God and l pray for them that their joy should come into manifestation soon. There is nothing impossible for God, it could be difficult with man, but certainly not with God. If He can do mine at 53, it shows that no case is concluded.

“For me, l see it as a reward of my past shame. God has given me double glory, my two boys. It is more than a miracle. And for the management of St Ives, l keep praying for them because they are not after one’s money, if they were, l couldn’t have registered.

“People used to call me Big Mummy, but God has given me a new and better name, ‘mummy twins’. l am now a fulfilled woman,” she narrated.

Her husband, who claimed to be four months older than his wife, said he knew his wife at age 12 when they were in secondary school, but time and space set them apart for separate marriages where the man was fortunate to have children unlike the woman.

Fate however reunited them to become a happy family again, having known each other for over 40 years.

He said the joy that the twins brought to the family had overridden their past apprehension; trauma and agony all through the years of his wife’s infertility, adding that she might have wept secretly on countless occasions.

“Today, all we are saying is thank you God. My wife had fasted and prayed and l believed that is why you see her looking like under sixteen now. I must confess that everybody is happy,” he said.

Reacting on the feat, Chief Medical Director of St Ives Hospital, Babatunde Okewale said the hospital’s Fertility Unit adopts a success-oriented approach towards infertility, focusing on solution for infertile couples at an affordable cost, rather than doing endless investigation and tests. BY JIMITOTA ONOYUME

PORT HARCOURT: THREE corps members have been kidnapped at the Corpers’ lodge in Ogonokom Community Secondary school, Abua/Odua local government area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Angela Agabe confirmed the development. Sunday Vanguard gathered that those kidnapped were two males and one female corps members.

Sources around the Corpers’lodge told the Sunday Vanguard that the kidnappers stormed the lodge at about 12 midnight yesterday, adding that they shot sporadically to scare the neighbourhood.

As press time, Sunday Vanguard learnt that no contact had been established with relatives and colleagues of the kidnapped Corps members for ransom. The state DSP Agabe said that the Police was on top of the situation, stressing that efforts were on to secure the release of the hostages, a development community sources corroborated when they spoke to the Sunday Vanguard.

Abduction of Corps members is not a strange incident in the state as they had been kidnapped about four times in the last three years.

A source at the National Youth Service Corp secretariat said Corps members at Ogonokom community had been relocated temporarily to a nearby community for safety. “They might go back to Ogonokom community when their security is assured”, the source said. BusinessAfrica’s Youngest Billionaire To Invest In Cross River State by Wisdytech(op): 7:29am On Jun 23, 2013
Given the conducive business environment put in place by the Cross River State Government, Africa’s youngest billionaire, Ashish J. Thakkar has made known his intention to invest in Calabar.

Thakkar, who is president, Mara Group stated this while delivering a key note address at the 2013 edition of the Africa CEO Roundtable and Conference on Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (AR-CSR) at Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort, Calabar.

According to the Ugandan, the decision to establish his presence in Calabar was based on what he has seen and heard of Cross River, which remains a veritable place to invest.

He explained that his investment in the state will be part of his effort to encourage young entrepreneurs to improve their capacity.

The billionaire said he was prepared to bring his wealth of experience to develop Nigeria, adding that “it is only when you give that you can have more, especially when giving to a group or society”

Thakkar disclosed that he professes Nigeria anywhere he goes as the best country and Cross River has further convinced him about that because of its available human and natural resources couple with the conducive economic environment put in place by government to attract investments and investors. PoliticsBREAKING NEWS: Boko Haram Regroups, Invades Borno Towns by Wisdytech(op): 7:10am On Jun 23, 2013
*Sect’s ultimatum to Christians, civil servants: Leave within seven days

By Ndahi Marama, Maiduguri

Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, dislodged by security forces in the wake of the emergency rule by President Goodluck Jonathan from their Sambisa Game Reserve camps, appear to be fighting back.

Sunday Vanguard was made to understand, yesterday, that they have not only regrouped, they have also sacked at least two major towns in the state.

One of the towns is Bama, where the insurgents struck in the weeks before Jonathan imposed the emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, killing 40 policemen, 13 prison warders, three soldiers and several civilians.

The other is Gwoza.

Bama and Gwoza, located along the Sambisa offshore, are said to be the strongholds of Boko Haram, the Islamist group fighting to impose Islamic values on Nigeria, a secular state, and campaigns against Western education. Ofonagoro :
Widows Will No Longer Drink Bath-water Of Their Dead Husbands In A/ibom

The custom allowing the seizure of deceased husbands properties and subjecting their widows to inhuman practices such as shaving of the head and making them drink the water used to bath their husbands, among others, have now become illegal in Akwa Ibom State.

The state government, in a bill passed by the House of Assembly and signed by the governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, outlawed the custom which maltreat widows after the deaths of their husbands, declaring it as unlawful and inhuman.

In his Democracy Day speech, the governor declared that it had become unlawful for widows to be maltreated in Akwa Ibom, saying defaulters of the law risk fines and three years imprisonment.

While reacting on the new law, the First Lady of the state, Chief (Mrs) Unoma Ekaette Akpabio, commended the House of Assembly and the governor for the pro-women law, describing the passage of the law as a breakthrough for the womenfolk in the state.

According to her, “I appreciate the state House of Assembly and the state governor for standing with the womenfolk through this law. Akwa Ibom State has, in the last five years, shown itself as pro-masses and pro-women.”
