Donald3d:
I have been very inquisitive about air travel lately. This took me on a journey to actually find out how much it costs to fuel planes.
In this article, we would be using a Boeing 747 as reference and data (cost of aviation fuel) provided by IATA (International Air Transport Association). We would be calculating how much fuel would be consumed on a flight from Lagos (MMA) to London (Heathrow).
First, let’s get some parameters right

Distance between the two airports :
Approx. 5,006 Km

Time taken for the journey :
6 hours 35 mins , which is equal to 395 mins

Cost of aviation fuel :

According to IATA, it costs 211.23 cts/gal
cts/gal is a term used in aviation,it means cents per gallon.
Lets convert this figure to ₦/litre
Lets use 360 per $
One dollar is 100 cents
211.23 cents = 2.11 dollars
To Naira = ₦759.6
This figure is per gallon
1 Gallon is approx. 3.79 litres
That means its costs ₦759.6 per 3.79 litres
That gives us ₦200.42 per litre

Quantity of fuel used for the journey :
The Boeing 747 uses about 12 litres per kilometre
Remember we are travelling 5,006 Km
That’s 60,072 litres consumed from Lagos to London
Let’s covert that to Naira
Remember it costs ₦200.42 per litre
That brings the total cost of fuel to travel from Lagos to London to ₦12,039,630.24!!

Noticed any error ?
Kindly indicate.
And don’t forget to share !!

https://autojosh.com/this-is-what-it-costs-to-fuel-a-plane-from-lagos-to-london/
Waoh! Interesting. Are you saying a Boeing 747 flies with approx two full 33000 litre trucks( same size as those fuel tankers all over Lagos roads) of aviation fuel while travelling from Lagos to London? What an interesting piece of science an aircraft is. Pleasantly surprised.

I was thinking out loud the other day... With 5 million Naira. The government can build a small 2 bedroom apartment in a small town. N250 million can build 50 of these, and with approx. 194 billion Naira, we can build 50 2 bedroom units in each local government in the federation. Replicate this for 4 years and you must have solved housing problems for approximately 155,000 Nigerians. If this is done for consecutive 10 years, 372,000 families might have benefited from the plan and the issue of housing would start to become history. Government can issue houses on a 15 year mortgage plan with beneficiaries paying approximately 28,000 monthly.
This makes sense. 194B can go a long way in providing housing covering all local govts. Yet they budget 200B+ for elections. The same amount should easily build 10+ power plants at 15B each. Like someone already said above,we have crooked politicians who lack the will to deliver good governance to this country. It's sad.

You must provide evidence that you have the ability to follow your chosen course e.g. exam results, qualifications."

School certificates and statement of result and and any other related documents i believe should address that.i.e. nysc certificates etc.

If you are looking at Sept this year then its best you put in your application immediately as there's just barely 4 weeks to go.

I finished from UNILAG and i can relate, students are not availed a copy of their transcript and using an agent at this time is an additional minimum of 4-5weeks..
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate. I'll just go ahead and submit the application. Paid the full school fees already as well.

God bless

How did you submit the transcripts used to secure an offer?

Speak to your agent if they can request for copies of your transcripts from NCI if not then you may have to submit just your O-level and BSc Cert.
Thanks.

The norm is you apply for it and Unilag Couriers or email it to the school directly. Technically, the stipulation is that as an ex student we aren't supposed to have a copy, from my understanding. They guard it like a classified document.

Is it a deal breaker? Are they keen on it?

Hey Guys! Great job.

Please I need to know from anyone:

Is it a must I submit my transcripts as part of the embassy requirement document? I have my Degree certificate and WAEC certificate.

Unilag doesn't give students their official transcript. I have tried and tried for a while couldn't get a copy to myself.

I am looking to go to NCI in Sept.

Please I'd appreciate any information from experience.

Thanks.

Typical Nigerian. Must your response be prefaced with insults ?

You are very quick to claim depositors funds.
1. Nigerian Bank directors don't care a about depositors as much as they care about their pockets. They perpetuate fraud everyday aimed at those same 'depositors funds'

2. Running a Telco is a very different business from banking. Etisalat is the third largest in Nigeria with a large loyal subscriber base. It has assets, income and prospects for growth. Taking the company over, they run the chance of running is reputation. How then do they recover their money? How many foreign technical partners will want to work with a Telco in receivership ? How many top staff will be willing to stay ? How many vendors will agree to pride goods and services on credit ?

3. Instead of taking over the company, why not insist on board seats and more voting rights ? The bad eggs could be eased out as well if identified.

4. How many companies taken over by banks, AMCON or any other interest have survived in Nigeria ? Look at Oceanic, Intercontinental, PHB various shipping and Oil companies. Do you see a pattern here ? Don't you think we should learn from history ?

Bankers are part of the problem in Nigeria. I am suspicious of a takeover through the backdoor like happened with V mobile and subsequently destroyed it. Time will tell
God bless you man! Majority of folks here are ignorant. This is clear power play. Aig Imokhuede and his guys want to have a piece of the pie. This is what they've done over and or again, bully seemingly politically weak folks outta there businesses and taking over using instruments of govt .Aig was the highest single debtor to Intercontinental bank, and yet the bank was forcefully taken off the owner's and sold to him. He is currently the chairman of the stock exchange I think, watching and protecting his interests. He tried so hard for the CBN position but his fellow bankers rejecyrd him knowing how dangerous he can be.There's no set of humans more corrupt in this country than these bank board room folks. They empower thieves to fleece the nation dry. Etisalat defaulted, yes and thats after paying up 500M of the 1.2B with all the economic downturn and u begin to wonder what all the gra gra is for when there are businesses who owe more, Dangote and Co. Why not come to a consensus for the loan repayment? Why all the ploy and propaganda to forcefully take the company over. We'll see as things unfold.

I mean seriously ...just watch and see in a few weeks time, Paga will announce new round of funding. Funding to do what I don't understand. Loans they won't give, agents they don't have so what are they using these funds for?

See Konga they don't even have delivery vans any more. Thank God I turned down their job offer na so I for de sleep with one eye open ...I heard Sim is no longer there. These guys just setup business and soon they cut out from it.

Look at Jumia when they first started, touted as Nigeria's home grown platform. It was only later the so called 'founders' resigned and the real owners took over. Look at Andela, EazyTaxi, DealDey ....same thing.

These guys know only how to play with numbers nothing more!
Yeah. I call them Red Carpet Entrepreneurs. They solve for PR and not necessarily sustainability. It's normal though as for most businesses you mentioned, their founders and Co founders built for exit. The fundamental concept is to grow a flashy and sexy business using PR, prove it's a viable model, get investors, sell and move on. Apparently there's a global venture fund boom especially around technology enabled ventures, so it is only right.

My challenge with most of these ideas is they are downright copy and paste, with not much innovative work done around tayloring their models to the nigerian socio-economic realities. Unfortunately they become a trend and a lot more Nigerians will jump on the wagon and start creating all sorts of adaptation without being privy to the behind-the-scene realities. The reality is the bulk of these businesses are a mess by their books, with all the funds they still struggle. The two ecommerce giants for instance do not have up to 1M paying cusomers monthly between them after spending probably spending N100M+ on marketing monthly for a long period. Yet a lot of young folks keep starting new ecommerce sites by the day.

For these "big boy" players, most of them have sound venture capital background and networks, and so they understand the nuances of the game. They understand it's a game of numbers. Get your numbers to reflect what investors want to see, get the funds, Founders move into Banana Island, in some cases some marry Nollywood babes sef grin, and then on to the next one. Afterall the money belongs to just less than 10 people who ar too rich to know what to use it for (The George Soros of thos world).
BusinessRe: Skye Bank Gets N100bn CBN Lifeline by Wize1: 3:27pm On Jul 30, 2016
tboius:
Good move by the Regulator.

This pertinent in the mood for damage control as her announcement for change in the Skye bank's management caused the panic withdrawal hence the need to hurriedly salvage the situation.

For avoidance of doubt a N100b life line is an institutional credit guarantee for the bank's transaction in the money market and not a direct inflow of cash. It's still at a cost but will mean that should in case a number of depositors decide to move N100b at once from the commercial bank the CBN guarantee will allow it to pass without affecting the continuous operations of the bank. In actual fact, this is almost impossible. The direct implication is to guarantee depositors that their funds are safe with the bank which will further stem the bleeding (loss of deposit as blood of the bank). The sound health of these banks is mutually exclusive to financial and economic stability of the country.

P.S: Let's I forget the situation with Skye Bank is not unconnected with the prevailing economic situation of the country , the withdrawal of public sector fund through TSA etc these also affect a few other banks in the country. From confirmed source, CBN has decided to manage the situation with other affected banks as the evolving panic that characterized that of Skye bank was not envisaged.

This is a call for the DMBs to change their strategy and focus more on retail banking and other innovative banking that will stimulate economic growth, aggregate demand, employment generation and reduce the galloping inflationary rate which has reached its ever highest of about 20%.

Often times the economic situation of Nigeria has defiled most economic theories, hence we have to look inwards for indigenous economists with solutions to our peculiar situation.

God bless Nigeria!
Thanks for the insightful comment. Definitely learnt a thing or two. Cheers!

If EFCC sets a presendence that every bank account in Nigeria is now being screened and questioned, I for one will not bank in Nigeria anymore, with my ECOWAS ID, I can open account in any West African country and take my investments there. This is bad for the economy. Is 2.5 billion naira really a big sum considering our useless naira ?

This is bad. You can not come to press and mess someone's image without even establishing that the person stole your money. I know that Stella Oduah's investment in Oil and Gas business even before she went into politics was worth over 2.5billion.
