^ I made this comment some posts back. There's absolutely nothing new in what he's done pertaining to the "Africanness" of this album, that hasn't been done way way before MI, so kini big deal? |
MI2 reminds one of Eminem's Relapse. . . |
@ bolaji, i do not question M.I's lyrical skills. What i question is the quality of the album. |
What is the issue here and why all the uneccesary fuss? M. I 2 is a wack album and musical direction (whatever the hell that is. . .), is just an excuse for the wackness of that album. The claim that M.I in his new album, spits what the average non-hiphop heads can relate to, is indeed laughable. And TAI didn't do the same? Fa Christ's sake, Ruggedman has been doing that since 04. Several hiphop acts infuse "Nigerian-ness" into they songs/album . As a matter of fact, the credit goes mainly to cats like Ajasa and Dagrin. If there's something more "Nigerian"/indigenous than spittin' in your native language, please let me know. Whereas TAI brought him critical acclaim and commercial success, MI2 just brings commercial success, albeit online. |
^ edoyad, the Bundesliga title is the equivalent of Lagos State Principal Cup's title. eko o ni baje o, jo o. And other BL trophy have their equivalents in NURTW Cup |
TAI was a mixture of ingenuity and creativity, both from M.I as a lyricist and Jesse as a producer. It was a work of songs for the clubs, for Hip Hop enthusiast and the introspective/conscious with each category having beats that catered to it. I mean, you could bob your head to Safe and appreciate the clever wordplay, while 2-stepping to Area and reflecting on ur Creator's goodness with Jehovah. And save for the internet, the album doesn't seem to be doing well on the streets. At least, i keep my ears to the ground and nobody seems to be feeling it. Not even the non-Hiphop heads. |
@ proudly9ja, i agree, Denilson is a natural CM than a DMF. Why Wenger continues to play him out of position, i dunno. |
I've had MI's album for close to 2 weeks now. Gathering dust in a corner of my room. Listening thru the album, i couldn't help but inferr the album is more hype than substance. Largely internet hype, and Jude Abaga has to thank Choc City's PR/hype machine. The album is a 3/10 for me. This has been his worst work, yet. Both lyrically and production-wise. And please, people should stop saying production on this album surpasses TAI, his previous album had if not the best in terms of production, one has seen on Nigerian Hip Hop albums (save for Gino's Pain Plus Work). If the argument were to be M.I2 is straight up poppy music, i'd mos def agree. But praising its lacklustre/mediocre production and claiming it's the signature for naija hiphop is a joke. |
Kick A^ss was good. . . Last movie i saw - The American |
