I am not against bride. It's just unfortunate you misread me. Your father raised you as his daughter with his money and sweat. It will be understandable that whoever to marry you should pay a particular amount of money to your Dad as "commendation" for his patience and willingness to raise you up to who you are in your husband eyes. What I'm against is when your Dad chose to impose a huge amount of money on your head as bride price to whoever want to marry you. It lack sense and scares potential suitors away,thereby limiting on your chance of getting married.

I for one,if I have a daughter,I'll do my best to raise her up well and present her to whoever want to marry her. But I won't force any potential suitor to pay oustrageous amount as her bride price or to organize their wedding. In a nutshell,I'm not against bride price,but let's there be moderation. Simple.

Adaeze is right. The bride price is not paid in the church and not to a priest, but in a traditional setting to the woman's father. This is an African tradition not just a biblical one. And bride price in the bible is not just for virgins. Even Hosea the prophet paid a bride price on his wife Gomer the prostitute. Bathsheba was married to another man but when she remarried David, a bride price was paid on her.

I personally have issues with the idea behind Bride Price. It reduces women to status of merchandise such as furniture and electronics. That's why you hear some men say "After all I spent as your bride price! You must do so and so or you dare not do so and so.

There are some factors which you listed above that they have little or no control over.

Like the issue of bride price in the east.

I'm not from the east but what I could gather is that this bride price is more like a tradition to them and they can't start changing it. Most of the time the women are not allowed to have a say in the matter and that is how they lose prospective husbands.

The family members don't care about the effect this bride price issue of a thing is affecting their girls.

You see a very beautiful woman who is still single simply because her family has put a very high price on her head and no man is ready to come and pay such an amount to get married to her.

As for some of the other points,,the women who are guilty of it should better change.[/color]
