myvuitton: @ Mr Ajanle, And who says one cant switch career, afterall itz an engineering managment course so i'm still on point and i knw what i want. Isn't that a bit rude? Since you know what you want, why bother asking? How is petroleum Engineering or Energy Economics a "engineering managment course"? I am an oil sector insider and was in a similar situation to you at some point (albeit BEng 1.1 in Elect/Elect Engineering + Msc 1.1 in Petroleum Engineering). I am afraid to let you know that AjanleK's advise (quoted below) is the best for your situation. AjanleKoko: You have a 2:2? You're not likely to be admitted to many good schools in the US, and even fewer schools in Canada for a masters in engineering.
I think you need to do a lot more research, long and short. Kip on rockin! |

I think we do. MMIA was not deigned to cope with the amount of traffic it now has to grapple with. Do you not see the congested terminal building, long queues, broken carousels etc? Plus there is little room for expansion at MMIA. Let them build a new, bigger, more modern, better run international airport in Lagos. Let them also build a 4th mainland bridge and a coastal road. Lagos deserves no less. X! |

Lagos earmarks N102 bn to build Lekki Int’l AirportThe Lagos State Government is to spend N102 billion ($ 650 million) on the construction of the Lekki International Airport which is expected to commence operation in May 2012.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Adeniyi Oyemade, a Public Private Partnership projector told reporters in Ikeja that the proposed airport would handle 5 million passengers annually.
“The state government has obtained the site approval for the airport from the Federal ministry of Aviation and completed the master plan on the 3500 hectares of land for the project.
The Governor has also approved the conduct of the topographical and geotechnical survey of the 3500 hectares of land allocated for the Airport,” he said. Its construction will engage over 2,000 direct and indirect workers. More details at http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/05/lagos-earmarks-n102-bn-to-build-lekki-int%E2%80%99l-airport/ |
Career › Re: Pls Help, Msc Process Engr Or Geophysics by X2X(m): 9:08pm On May 05, 2011 |
Wouldn't an Msc in Petroleum Engineering be the the most appropriate? I know it will be difficult for you to consider my suggestion, given that your bachelors degree in PetEng has not yet yielded any fruit by way of a job.
You have a Bsc in PetEng, experience in Banking and then marketing. My view is that attempting a further "career switch" to ProcessEng or Geophysics might potray you as being indecisive or unsure of what you want career wise, in the eyes of prospective employers.
Granted, there is some common ground between PetEng and ProcessEng, but I would argue that this is limited (e.g. fundamental understanding of phase behaviour). I therefore do not see an Msc in Process Engineering as a logical next step after a BEng in Petroleum Engineering.
An arguement in favour of the Geophysics option is that it is a core sub-surface discipline (like petroleum engineering) and as a practising Geophysicists there will be frequent instances where Petroleum Engineering knowledge helps you do your job (or helps you to help your colleague). Prospects in Geophysics increasingly depend on where you study. Are you intending to do your Msc abroad?
Bear in mind that many other folks in your shoes will be thinking along the same lines of not wanting to get "trapped" and will therefore be rushing to Process Engineering.
Regarding jobs, do you think you have a better chance competing with the many other Msc Chemical Eng / Msc Process Engineering degree holders (who probably have a BEng in Chemical Engineering) versus competing with a relatively smaller group of Geophysicist?
Left to me, I would suggest, in order of preferences:
a) Msc in Petroleum Engineering b) Msc in Petroleum Geophysics
All the best.

Lekki concession: Project report stirs fresh protest
Resistance by indigenes and residents of Eti-Osa community, host to the first ever infrastructure concession in the country, Lekki-Epe Expressway, may not be over yet. They have, again, greeted the report of the committee, set up by the Lagos State Government to resolve the grey areas, with protest.
“Come January 3, 2011, collection of toll will begin at the first toll point, called the Admiralty Toll Plaza located at the Mobil area of Lekki Phase 1,” he told journalists on Wednesday in Lagos.
Detailing the toll collection plan, Oforiokuma said, ”While motorcycles will pay N50, saloon cars and tricycles will pay N120. Sport utility vans and minibuses will have to part with N150 at the toll plaza. Light trucks and two-axle vehicles will pay N250, while heavy trucks and long buses will pay N350. Commercial danfo buses, which originally enjoy up to 47 per cent rebate if registered for what the company called e-Tag payment system, will pay only N80. http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201012200235698 |

Traffic congestion: Ozumba Mbadiwe Bridge to be ready in Jan
Barring all unforeseen contingencies, the overhead bridge being constructed on Ozumba Mbadiwe, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Victoria Island, Lagos, will be completed in January 2011.
PUNCH METRO gathered that the overhead bridge, which started in the last quarters of 2009 would link Falomo Bridge, Osborne and Ikoyi.
It was also learnt that when the bridge becomes operational, the traffic bottlenecks, which motorists often encountered passing through Muri Okunola and Adeola Odeku areas would become a thing of the past.

Fhemmmy: How about you try and get the calf to rear them into big cows and sell to make money and wont have to worry about transportation and accident on the highway and all that? Just a thought Wouldn't you still need to transport the calf down south? Had an uncle who had an expanding flock of cattle in the South. He started with a few and they had begun to give birth, multiply, etc. One day, we woke up and there was no sign of the flock or of the Fulani herdsmen that were tending them. Turned out that the Fulani folks arranged for Lorries to come at mid-night and commanded the cows to enter the truck and they drove off! |

As time evolves a hereditary stamp with physiologically and historically based differences will separate the two. The dark color have a distinctive approach to reality in which knowledge is based on feelings rather than logic, where the arts are privileged over the sciences and where the emotions are aided over cerebral analysis. The light color on the other hand analyzes reality from an objective distance, never trusting his survival to faith. @Negro The above has to be the best paragraph I have seen on a post on Nairaland in a very long while. Thanks. Any idea what sort of time we are talking about here regarding emigration from Havillah? When Ife was established, were Yoruba's advanced enough to have writings? In the decades and centuries that followed, did they manage to document the true stories? Surely the "pure" truth has been passed down, otherwise what purpose did the cults serve? I am fed up with people having to refer to the Bible and the Quran. We know that these books mostly contain, at best, only half truths. Agreed there are things reserved only for the initiated, encoded in the arts, etc. But something as basic as "where are we from" ought to be "in public domain". No? I want my kids to know the truth, not the cock and bull, obviously fabricated nonsense that they are told in Social Studies classes in elementary schoool. I particularly like your theory of how the elements resulted in a "heriditary stamp" on the races. I have long held this view and was once slaughtered on a public forum (not Nairaland) for daring to air such an opinion. *bookmarks thread* |

paddy_lo: ok lets retrace logically. . okahs ppl didi it and okah knows about it. .
Now why dont u let him face the music in SA. . . why are u holding brief for him?. . .
He has killed innocent Nigerians and he should pay the ultimate price. . .
Secondly coming back to Nigeria. . .The President said MEND wasnt involved but terrorists
MEND claim they are fighting for the Niger Delta. . Is MEND more Niger Delta than the president?
or is the President less Niger Delta than OBJ and Yar adua?
In other words why didnt MEND bomb ABUJA when OBJ and Yaradua were in power btw 2005 - 2009
If they are known to be mostly saboteurs of Oil infrastructure, when did they magically add Terrorism to their forte
because make no mistake about it the bomb was timed to kill
u first detonate a lil one to attract a crowd then u detonate a bigger one to kill all gathered
Now is that how MEND normally fights its emancipation of Niger Delta battles?
So u see the President has a reason to be suspicious and i suggest we all chill till the SSS concludes their investigations and name the real brains behind it
One more thing u keep saying OKAH is brilliant bla bla bla
OKAH is nothing but a common murderer who will sell his brother for money
Since when did u start praising gun dealers, death merchants and mercenaries? I have always loved your posts, but this one is simply brilliant. Oya Ibime, répondez, s'il vous plaît. |

Correct me if I am wrong, but was it not Abacha who ordered the execution of Wiwa? Also, not suggesting anything or taking sides, but would you not agree that a few individuals could easily execute a bombing plot? Would you equate such a group of a few, possibly disgruntled, Niger Deltans as representing ND Militants in general? |

phuck_NL: While you do have a point, the comparison is really not necessary. The fact that poor roads are tolled in India does not mean we should be satisfied with an "Ok" road that is tolled in Lagos. Why can't we compare the road to better roads instead of looking backwords. I was in Houston recently and the road network is "a killer". The sam houston toll way/beltway 8 is tolled with about 6-7 lanes on either side of the road. The road runs in an elliptical shape round the city of houston, it is TOLLED but then you are not forced to use it because of the feeder lane that serves as an alternate route. THe only thing is that you have to deal with red lights if you don't use the tolled road. Lekki toll road can emulate that and not a bad road in India +1. |

AjanleKoko: After seeing three Indian cities this week, I would say let's just pay the toll and get on with life. I drove through a toll road in Kolkatta today. The condition of this road is such that my dog should not pay toll to pass through that. Won't say more than that. Let Fashola, LCC, and Tinubu do their business. But we need that road. Agreed, we need the road. But maybe we also need an alternative route for those who can't afford the toll don't you think? For me, the Calcutta example you gave is not what we should be aiming for. Let us have the road, let it be good enough so that people who can afford it wouldn't mind paying tolls. Let us also have transparency and fairness. By the way, I am wondering, how good is the public transport system in Lekki area? If people can leave their cars at home and take the bus instead, the tolling may not have a big impact on them. The fact that everybody drives actually contributes to the road congestion. I wonder if Fashola and co looked at this option seriously. Maybe public transportation could be a bigger cash cow for govt. than tool gates? |

While the efforts of the Lagos State Government in ensuring that segments of the state partake in industrial and economic development is commendable, the lack of adequate information, consultation and engagement of the people before the project was embarked upon was a great error. Gone are the days when governments in the country, in their wisdom, could unilaterally impose a conceived idea (no matter how well conceived) on the people without consultation See link below for more . . . .
