Gowon, Abdulsalami Applaud NNPC as Enugu Emerges Champion of 2018 National Science Quiz Competition Encomiums and wide-acclaim came the way of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Tuesday as the curtains fell on the 16th edition of the NNPC National Science Quiz Competition with Enugu State representative, Master Okeke Tony Kabilan, carting away the coveted prize. The grand finale of the quiz competition, which is the Corporation’s most significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, was graced by two former Heads of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Retd.) and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (Retd.), who applauded the Corporation for foetering educational development and national unity through the competition. After a round-robin question and answer session featuring 18 participating state finalists drawn from each of the six geo-political zones, the Enugu State champion finished tops with 75 points while Ogun State representative, Master Igban Emmanuel, clinched the second position by whiskers with 65 points after winning a pulsating tie break with Master Alikah Joseph Ehiagwina of Edo State. Gen. Gowon, who was chairman of the occasion, commended the Corporation for organizing a shining example of CSR initiative which, according to him, had witnessed massive innovations and improvement through the years. The former Head of State applauded the Corporation for increasing the scholarship sum from N100, 000 to N300, 000, stressing that the move was a soothing balm for the winners in the face of rising cost of quality education. He also thanked the management of NNPC for the introduction of N100,000 educational grant to all winners at the state level. Special Guest of Honour, Gen. Abubakar, in his remarks commended the Corporation for its unflinching commitment to the growth and sustenance of qualitative indigenous manpower across all tiers of the hydrocarbon value chain. Gen. Abubakar said NNPC’s record in championing the Nigerian content initiative in the oil and gas industry was a noble and patriotic step, noting that the essential philosophy behind the National Science Quiz Competition was to ensure that the production line of highly skilled labour remained intact and prolific. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in his address expressed satisfaction with the NNPC Management for sustaining the annual national science quiz contest and urged the NNPC to consider extending same gesture to students in the arts and social sciences. Chief host of the event and Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, said NNPC Management would continue to build on the landmark achievements of the competition in the years ahead. Dr. Baru pledged that the Corporation would ensure the test administration met international standards given the existing collaboration already established with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) as well as the Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (STAN), which were rubbing off positively on the status of the initiative. He noted that quiz competition has proved to be a huge success with many of the past winners doing very well in their chosen careers across three continents of the globe. “From the survey we carried out, we discovered that over 90% of our past quiz winners are doctors and engineers. We traveled to about three continents of the world to locate what we describe as NNPC Science Quiz Competition Laureates in their various fields of endeavor. Some are at Harvard and other Ivy League Universities as research fellows”, Dr. Baru stated. The NNPC Quiz Competition was inaugurated in 2000 and limited to participants from the Niger Delta but went national in 2001. Designed mainly for students in the nation’s secondary schools, the competition has impacted positively on the intellectual attainment of young Nigerians. It has provided financial succour to successful contestants who have been placed on scholarship throughout their university education. Many of the awardees had moved on to achieve academic laurels in tertiary institutions, locally and internationally. The competition was set up to promote science education in the country; encourage students in the study of Science and Technology related subjects; prepare students for promotional and qualifying examinations; build friendship amongst the participating students; and develop students’ competitive spirit, among others. The event was attended by the Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Governor Darius Ishiaku of Taraba State and a host of other dignitaries from across the country. http://www.nnpcgroup.com/PublicRelations/NNPCinthenews/tabid/92/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/1082/Gowon-Abdulsalami-Applaud-NNPC-as-Enugu-Emerges-Champion-of-2018-National-Science-Quiz-Competition.aspx |
Princedapace:Damn! See finishing!!! ![]() |
nnamdijonathan:I've always suspected your claims to Igbo ethnicity and your true intentions on this thread. Not any more! Must admit you had me fooled at some point, as you've used the tried and tested technique of contributing a lot on Igbo-themed threads...joining us in discussing Igbo affairs with as much fervour as true Igbo kinsfolk! Get a life mate! |
superlightning:Don't be deceived by his copious use of the laughing emoticon....it has as much meaning as the grin of a crazed psycho! ![]() I can sense growing anger and seething rage with every subsequent post he makes! |
PabloAfricanus:I seem to have missed the part where you said what your ethnicity is! Could you remind us again? Just so we can place your comments in their proper perspective. |
Why is it that it's always Abia and/or Imo that must represent the south-east when there's a worst performing states list on anything? Incidentally, these two states happen to be the least well governed states in the south-east! |
BankeSmalls:You always yarn cra.p! If this thread stresses you out so much, as is apparent from your constant snapping at contributors to this thread, then simply stop clicking on it! |
Buterflyle0:The thing about bigotry is that bigots just can't hide it....it'll always find an outlet one way or the other! In your estimation, Atiku picking a running mate from the south east automatically amounts to him loosing the election? By your post you assert that all Igbos are IPOB members, and that no Igbo is fit to be president or vice-president! When next you shout 'one Nigeria', ask anyone standing next to you to give you a resounding slap! You've earned it! ![]() |
Lordofthewest:Hehehehe ![]() I see how you sneaked in a shout out for Proforce on an INNOSON thread! Very sneaky! ![]() |
All this constant nosing around INNOSONs factory by these busybodies under the guise of wanting to patronise him! And when they do buy, it's just a truck here and a jeep there! |
GuyWise:The SE or Asaba. |
Racoon:Nigeria still deludes itself that it's the giant of Africa! Any small thing, and they begin to bleat how many hundreds of millions they are! ![]() |
Mynd44:Hehehehe ![]() You take particular exception to that tag 'jew' don't you? ![]() |
Hedonini:Hehehehe ![]() You're wondering where they got 14 million votes from! Where else if not their bag of tricks! ![]() |
Olohunjedalo:Bros, you sure say you read the OP at all? ![]() |
neezar:I think they preferred Tambuwal as facing him would be a walk in the park for them! Atiku is a different kettle of fish entirely! It's squeaky bum time, as Alex Ferguson would say! ![]() |
You people making all this analysis and projections would do well to remember the desperate nature of the people you have as opponents! You look the likes of Buhari, El-Rufai, Amaechi, Okorocha and Oshiomole finish, and they come resemble people wey go wan fight free and fair? You should get real! The aforementioned and their otimkpus would never admit it out in the open, but i'm sure they'd have realised by now that they are the most hated set of individuals in Nigeria today, and that the rest of the country just can't wait to get their hands on their scrawny necks! For these misfits, it's either they win the 2019 elections or they die trying! |
Oh boy! See the number viewing this thread....quite impressive for a party they said is dead and buried! |
InyinyaAgbaOku:Anyone know who built this road? Was it Enugu or federal gov't? |
Obi1kenobi:Even Hitler thought he had 'reasonable political calculations motivating the decisions' he made! History is there for all to judge whether those 'calculations' were just or not! The arguments you're making are ones i've heard before...problem is, they didn't come from an Igbo man! If a Hausa-Fulani had made these same arguments you make, i'd have read them and moved on. Why i'm engaging you is b'cos you claim to be Igbo, yet are able to justify AIIA being downgraded to a 2nd tier airport behind the ones in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt! I've told you we're in Nigeria...a dog-eat-dog jungle where it's every man for himself and you want to bring 'reason' into the discussion? Where was reason when they were constructing a pipeline all the way to the north just to build a refinery in Kaduna...far away from it's source of raw material? Weren't you taught in secondary school that industries are best located near the source of their raw materials....that is unless of course said industry is located in 'one Nigeria'! Where was reason when they were locating almost the entire economy and economic enablers like seaports, airports and industries in just one tiny state while other states in the same south were left to look on like mugus? Where was reason when a country voted in a coup-plotting, vindictive geriatric in the name of 'change'? I could go on and on! It's only when Ndigbo demand their own that you scream 'hold on a minute....you can't do that as it goes against 'Nigerian reasonableness' so you better perish the thought'! |
Obi1kenobi:I'm still trying to get my head around the fact a so called Igbo man is advancing this argument for why AIIA Enugu has been relegated to the back burner while the one in Kano is being promoted and assisted with federal might to be one of the 1st tier airports! If the north east can't fight for their interest does that mean i as an Igbo man should now be content with the demotion in status AIIA has received under this Buhari/APC gov't? You people are quite adept at adducing reasons why certain regions get better treatment and more resources than others....making up reasons and excuses as you go along! Why the fuc/k should Igbos be denied a int'l gateway of equal status with the ones in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano just because they have a smaller landmass than the Hausa-Fulani or Yoruba? On the day of independence, there were three major ethnic groups of Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo, and there was the federal capital and regional capitals in Kaduna, Ibadan and Enugu. Each of the three major ethnic groups had cities in their regions which they nurtured and saw as the pride of their regions. The Yoruba had Ibadan, and when the federal capital moved to Abuja they moved in to claim Lagos as theirs; the Hausa-Fulani had Kaduna and Kano; the Igbo had Enugu and Port Harcourt. The machinations by the other two against the Igbo in the lead-up and during the uncivil war eventually removed Port Harcourt from Igbo influence and handed it over to the Ijaw, while encouraging the Igbos left within River state to deny the Igbo heritage.....this now left Igbos with only Enugu. Now any neutral reading this would say in the interest of fairness and equity that Enugu should be given equal status as Lagos, Kano, Kaduna and Port Harcourt since that is all they have left, but not the likes of you! You'd rather Ndigbo go down to Port Harcourt and share with the Ijaws, Ogbas, Ikwerres, etc! Share with people who haven't hidden their disdain, suspicion and hatred for Igbos! If you were in the shoes of Ndigbo, would you accept this? I know for a fact the Yoruba and Fulani wouldn't and would kick up a storm if forced to do so! Fact remains that Nigeria is a jungle where it's every man for himself, and if you argue that Ndigbo should be dumb enough to forgo fighting for a int'l gateway in their region of equal status with the ones in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt, while the other two major ethnic groups are sitting pretty in their own regions with 1st tier int'l gateways, then you are nothing short of wicked! Remember you lot have connived to take away Port Harcourt from us, so you should quit you bad-belle and allow us face what we know to be ours.....ie, AIIA Enugu! The stupid argument of landmass or no landmass is neither here nor there...why should i as an Igbo man go without b'cos the north has useless large landmass? I hope people that argue against the IPOB and Biafran issues can now see why Igbos are angry and feel cheated? On the issue of Senator Oduah...you couldn't be further off the mark even if you tried! Ndigbo love that woman for all she did....and tried to do before being prematurely hounded out of office before she could complete the actualisation of the vision she had for airports in the country! In addition to giving us a new int'l terminal at Enugu, it was under her watch that the first int'l flight since the late 60s landed at Enugu! I remember the runway at AIIA was done too during her tenure as aviation minister, but as we've since learnt, the job wasn't done satisfactorily...and i put this down to the kind of people we have running things in the civil and public service. The runways integrity was compromised either through incompetence or blatant corruption of those responsible for monitoring quality of work done. I'm sure if she had continued as minister, the issue of the runway would have been revisited and done properly. A country cannot rise above the mentality and quality of personnel running its affairs; whether in politics, business or the public/civil service! |
nnamdijonathan:That's a Nigerian problem...not just in Igboland! |
I believe Otti was Ikpeazus' biggest nightmare! I'm sure he (Ikpeazu) found a way to infiltrate APGA in Abia state with his men or bought over the ones already there in order to see anyone but Otti emerge as the APGA gubernatorial flag-bearer for the 2019 elections! And it's Abia peoples money that's been used for all this! Just who the fuc/k is this sir whatever where Otti is concerned? And how does anyone in APGA in full control of their senses think he's a better option than Otti to face Ikpeazu? That Ikpeazu is near useless! If things were done right and the electoral process in this country actually reflects the wishes of the electorate, there's no way he would have won a second term and i'm sure he knows it! Anyway, i don't take primaries and elections in Nigeria serious to begin with! It's full of bribes, threats, murder, greed, turncoats, godfathers and nasty thugs! The issues that matter and the will of the people take a backseat in all this! |
Purehuman:You're right about Wike. I've noticed with consternation how he's so quick to kiss the arsse of the northern elite establishment...and to a lesser extent, the west. I remember once he was holding a function, and he invited the Sultan of Sokoto and Ooni of Ife....no Igbo traditional ruler was invited. During the height of the IPOB agitation, he went to the north to assure them 'one Nigeria' is still intact; i bet they breathed easy after this as this is what they always wanted to hear! They fear loosing the rich oyel blocks that has sustained them these past decades if those 'pesky nyamirees' succeed in their quest of leaving! ![]() |
hammer6F:Weren't they from Omoku? I seem to remember them destroying his base at Omoku. |
onuebonyi:Good news? Are you having a laugh or what .....where's the 'good news'?If you see how i despise that bigoted bastard Hadi-Sirika eh! Anyway, he's only acting out the script given to him by his master Buhari! Before the coming of this cursed Buhari regime, the FIVE new terminals of Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu where progressing at an equal pace. But when Buhari came on the scene, he relegated the one at AIIA Enugu in ALL respects, while elevating the others! In airport concessioning, Enugu is not mentioned in the same breath with the others; works at the new terminal at AIIA were either stopped or drastically slowed down to the extent that they're now talking of opening the ones in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt while the one in Enugu is MIA (i bet the one in Kano is equally nearly finished, but they're keeping quiet about it out of guilty conscience); extra money was budgeted to increase the scope of works at the other three (not sure if the one in Kano was included, but i'm ready to wager they've done it on the DL and secretly increased the scope of work at its new terminal too), while ignoring the one at Enugu! I keep on saying it that any Igbo that is sitting pretty and sleeps well at night while his people and region are being cheated by these bastards presently in gov't; any Igbo that ignores all this cheating while standing up to shout 'APC....Buhari for another four years'; any Igbo that sees nothing wrong in 'one Nigeria' and is busy talking of 2019 elections that would definitely be rigged in favour of Buhari and his party of misfits....such a person has no business calling himself Igbo, and he should go ask his mum again if she's sure about his paternity! Rubbish! |
ckenneths:Choi! Igbos don suffer!! See how they're playing with your intelligence! ![]() |
ckenneths:Bros Spyder, do you climb tree to take these vista shots or are you using a drone? ![]() |
arinzeejikonye:I saw the render of that Awka ICC some years back! It's gigantic! Judging by the ongoing joke that is Umueri int'l airport, i'm not expecting to see any pics on that ICC project that'll wow me! After raising my hopes so high when Obiano commenced his first term as governor, i'm now starting to get that sinking feeling that the seismic shift in governance we were all hoping for in Anambra would yet again have to wait for the next person to take the saddle of governance! ![]() |
arinzeejikonye:It's still not far-reaching enough! This is what they should have incorporated in the planning phase and not when everything has been built! They had to wait for us to complain b/4 they did what they should have done even without being prompted! Are they kids? So annoying! ![]() |
