llakes4real: I have not read anything more beautiful than this.
We can also argue that the British are more indigenous to Lagos than every Yoruba.
Where were the saros in this population census conducted by the British?
https://www.nairaland.com/1421083/population-statistics-lagos-british-colony @llakes4real, If you observe that census web link and historical facts closely, you would realise that: The Yoruba Saros, Yoruba Brazilian and Yoruba Cuban returnees were already settling down in Lagos Island as of the 1850s and they identified with the Yoruba subgroups they originally came from such as Egba, Oyo, Ijesa, Ekiti, Ijebu, Egbado, etc, in the 1872 and 1891 Lagos Island population census. Ajayi Crowther was from Osogun in Iseyin, Oyo. He was a Saro (Yoruba Sierra Leonian) returnee. Candido da Rocha born in Brazil and he and his parents returned to Lagos Island in the 1850s was Ijesa. Sir Adeyemo Alakija (formerly known by the Brazilian name Placido Asumpcao) was Egba. Hope this helps. |

omohayek: What nonsense! Where have I ever "worshipped" Tinubu? I neither know the man nor have any business nor familial connections to him, and I have certainly never claimed he was any sort of saint or savior. To be irritated at what has been a clearly tribally-motivated campaign of character assassination directed at the man for several years now is not the same thing as "worshipping" him, unless you've been so blinded by your own monomaniacal hatred of him that you can no longer see the distinction.
"Now the Igbo migrants to the SS have as much rights in Itsekiriland as you and morally more rights than any of your political leaders. They definitely have more rights than any Itsekiri leader who has ever been elected to high office." How do you like it when your own rhetoric is directed back at you? Do you still think this makes sense and is worthy of serious consideration, or does your blindness to how you come across only work in one direction?
I know it's both fun and convenient to knock down straw men, but the feeling you get from doing is entirely hollow. I have never argued that Tinubu "is responsible for the development of Lagos", and I would never do so, seeing as I know that Lagos was already developing and flourishing before the Saros you champion even started coming there in the 19th century (no Vivour even lived in Lagos before 1870). Go through my entire comment history and show me where I've made any of the straw-men claims you're knocking down here - I'll be waiting...
I repeat, you seem to have gone round the bend in your hatred of Tinubu, willing to embrace any crazy theory and insulting claim, no matter the peripheral damage done - it's not the hatred of Tinubu that disturbs me, but the outlandish claims you're willing to back because of it. My forefathers were here in Lagos before any white man or slave "returnee" ever came to the island of Eko, as were the Ijebus and Egbas whose lands are part of the artificial and arbitrary "Lagos state" which was carved out without any consultation by a military dictator. When Oba Akitoye had to flee Lagos due to Kosoko's ambitions, he fled to Abeokuta, and he was backed by an Egba woman named Tinubu, the very woman who made the name famous. Awolowo, the most famous Yoruba leader of all time, was of both Ijebu and Egba descent. Yorubas have never had the artificial borders and distinctions between us that you and the IPOB trolls you emulate seek to impose upon us, and the only effect such "real Lagosian" and "original Lagosian" rhetoric has on us is to harden us in the conviction that all of this is about much more than Tinubu as a politician (whose time in the limelight will inevitably pass), but about a do-or-die ethnic struggle for control, and as we are seeing right now with the governorship elections, that means you are condemning yourself to be perpetually on the losing side, as we won't allow ourselves to be turned into powerless outsiders in our own land, even if that means putting up with machine-politicians like Tinubu for the meantime.
I've told you this before, but if you were at all serious about defeating Tinubu politically, the intelligent thing to do would be to show us - and by "us" I mean Yorubas in general, not Igbos who already hate him with scary intensity - that there are better alternatives which won't end up with outsiders giving us marching orders in our own homeland. The worst way to go about it is the one you've chosen: adopting alienating and brazenly dishonest rhetoric insinuating that only some outsider immigrant group like the Saro are "real" and "original" Lagosians, while we Aworis, Ijebus and Egbas are somehow disqualified as being "unreal" since our lands supposedly "belong to the Binis" (by which reasoning, all Itsekiri land still belongs to the British, as they conquered it just as the Binis once conquered Lagos). Impressive submissions. Thumbs up! |

nadisms: My Experience shopping on Jumia online store
Terrible experience and I feel they are breeding thieves as agents.
On the 23rd of january 2023, I decided to purchase 2 IN 1 universal wireless microphone on Jumia. After, a serious search for my spec ,I finally settled for one with the hope that the seller would send the same specification to me.
I added the details of the person that would receive the products for me. When the goods arrived on 1st feb 2023, I was duly notified by the person that the items were different from the specifications posted on Jumia, and I immediately initiated a return policy from my end, which Jumia acknowledged by saying that once the products gets to them, my refund would be sent in 3-7 business days.
After some days, Jumia agent called my friend with this number: 09166608377 in order to confirm where she was , afterwards he came to Nnamdi azikiwe university teaching hospital Nnewi Anambra state, and collected the items.
After 10 days, I did not receive a refund from Jumia. I logged on to my jumia account and discovered that they have written non-returnable on that particular product.
I called Jumia to register my unhappiness about their service delivery. They requested for the number of the agent that collected the items, which I did and they said that they would initiate another return from their side. I thought initiating another return means to verify from their end.
After some days, another agent called that he wanted to pick up the items, and my friend informed him that those items had earlier being returned to Jumia and she provided the number of the other agent that picked up the items. He said he will verify.
Till date, we are yet to hear anything from Jumia. I have called the agent directly, and he said that he could not remember where he kept the goods.
I have called their customer care several times and they are yet to respond positively to my complaints.
Even the agent, has stopped picking my calls. This is his second number: 08029969365.
Presently, Jumia is not responding positively to my complains and they keep postponing my grievances.
My observations: it seems the agent had sold off my goods.
My Questions: why will Jumia employ thieves as staff?
Horrible experience in the hands of Jumia....
Very poor service delivery A horrendous service delivery... SMH |

GRV should not have been stupid enough to insult the Yorubas on Twitter. Even in Lagos Island, he will never win House of Rep or Senate. Returnee FORMER slaves of Yoruba descent OR returnee formerly enslaved Yorubas is a better way to put it. Many were happy to see their missing relatives again. Ajayi Crowther who is from Osogun in Iseyin area of Oyo State but was buried in the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos Island in the late 1890s, miraculously found his biological mother in her Yoruba hometown of Ketu in Benin Republic, but never saw his father and younger sister again since the day the Muslim slave traders invaded Osogun and took them all into captivity. Many Yorubas of Nigeria and Benin Republic lost family members in the late 1700s but majorly in the 1800s due to the slave ship deportations to Cuba, Brazil, USA, Trinidad, British Guiana now Guyana, Venezuela, Jamaica, Sierra Leone, etc. The major victims of the deportations on slave ships from Yorubaland were the Oyos, Egbas, Ijesas, Ekitis, Ijebus, Bantes, Anagos, Ketus, with the last 3 being from Yoruba-speaking Benin Republic. Some like Ajayi Crowther, Shitta Bey, and the first Nigerian pound sterling millionaire and financier, Candido da Rocha (who was born to an Ijesa father in Bahia, Brazil), returned to Nigeria and settled on Lagos Island in the 1800s after being freed OR their parents freed, and some did not return. Those who did not return to Yorubaland and their descendants have kept the Yoruba culture and religion alive in Cuba, Brazil, Trinidad, etc, till today. May the memories of the ancestors never be forgotten. |

Olabukola11: Check out the write up by a Yinka Bawa-Bankole on the ALSI (Association of Lagos State indigenes) platform today.....👇🏽
The argument of pan yoruba would catch up with them at last. If Lagos is No Man's Land that argument should be carried to its logical end. If Lagos is not a No Man's Land then all these village yorubas I know in Lagos who come in from some decrepit, sleepy Ijebu and Ekiti villages..many from some Egba rural dingy places and those of us from Ibadan and Ogbomosho, Oshogbo and Iragbiji should not turn Lagos to No Man's Land for Lagosians. We should give space to the owners of Lagos. Let their children govern them. Let their children represent them. Let them have political control of Lagos. Infact the pan yorubas are the danger to original Lagosians not the Ibos. The indigent Lagosians, pushed to the wall, are only seeking an alliance with the numeric power of the Ibos to liberate themselves from pan yoruba imperialism. Pan yoruba are the thieves in Lagos. They come from their dingy, backward rural villages where you don't even have provision store and their hotels sell only one menu to come to Lagos to make millions if not billions out of dispossessing Lagosians of their ancestral lands. If Lagos is not a No Man's Land then the argument should be taken to its logical conclusion. Anyone that has not travelled the entire routes and intestines of the entire SW can be bamboozled by villagers parading themselves as urbane in Lagos. The indigent Lagos wouldn't be treated with respect in the dingy villages and rural from which these pan yoruba LAGOSIANS have come to invade Lagos. We can start with Iragbibi...🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️...can all the leeches on the indigent Lagosians respect them? Lagos isn't a No Man's Land. Correct. Lagos belongs to indigent Lagosians. Lagos doesn't belong to Pan Yoruba it belongs to Lagosians. The Lagosian does not have any lands in Oye Ekiti, Ijesa Isu, Oke-Ogun, Erin-Ile, Fiditi, Okuku and Akure...🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️...if they do demonstrate it to me...truth is that I wouldn't even expose myself to the blackmail of living in some yoruba states given their legendary hostility to non indigenes who want to live in their sleepy villages. That is the truth. We should stop deceiving ourselves. Lagosians have ambition like you. Their children cannot be sidelined. Tinubu cannot come out of dingy Iragbiji to take over Lagos and hand its resources to Seyi and make Lagosians slave of Seyi or whatever...practical commonsense. Do unto others what you wish they do to you. Same people talking about pan yoruba owning Lagos on this platform may be very horrible and wicked landlords to their fellow yoruba living in houses that they built with stolen money from Lagos coffers! Pan Yoruba argument is disguised intra ethnic imperialism hiding under some cultural amnesia. Let the Iwori guy go to Agodi Gate to sell spare parts...he will know that Ibadan belongs to Ibadan...Lagosians are seeking freedom from pan yoruba imperialism because they have been colonised by pan yoruba. Indeed there should be legislation to reserve the offices of Governor, Deputy Governor and Speaker of Lagos for Lagosians not all these landgrabbers whose ancestral lands aren't worth 500k even if you buy 20km of it...the yorubas have a proverb for smart thieves: ko se or ko kin nwa koma lala...even twin brothers would delineate the boundaries of their possessions....Lagos is yorubaland ko....Lagos belongs to Lagosians. Ibadan belongs to Ibadan. Ijesha Isu and Ikhole Ekiti belongs to their children. Pan yoruba are the real problem of Lagos not Ibos.🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬 NOTE: This article posted by the OP is clearly a fake article, written by a non-Yoruba to incite Yorubas against one another. The name used by the writer is not indigenous to any Lagos family. I agree though that the technocrat indigenes of Lagos State from the 5 divisions of Lagos State (the IBILE divisions) must from the next election cycle in all political parties be represented as Governorship and Deputy Governership candidates. NO real indigene of Lagos State would demean or insult the Ijebu people by saying: "decrepit, dingy, sleepy Ijebu villages" because Ijebuland extends from Ogun State right into Lagos State and Ijebus are real indigenes of Lagos State because parts of Ijebuland and Aworiland were carved out of the Old Western Region on May 27, 1967 to create Lagos State for the indigenes by the iconic General Yakubu Gowon government. 12 new states were created in all parts of Nigeria on that day by Gowon. The so-called writer told Ijebus and others in that post by the OP to go back to where they came from. This is very laughable and similar to what Gbadebo of the LP (who is a descendant of formerly enslaved Yorubas majorly from either Oyo, Ogun, or Osun who returned from Sierra Leone in the 1800s) told Vanguard newspaper recently, and on his ignorant anti-Yoruba Twitter posts. The Ijebu people are the indigenes and land owners of Ajah, Ikorodu LGA, Epe LGA, Ibeju-Lekki LGA, in Lagos State. The Aworis who originally migrated from Ile Ife many centuries ago to the Ota axis of Ogun State and Lagos State are the indigenes in the 17 other LGAs, and the Aworis are indigenes of Badagry LGA with the Ogus. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a Yoruba man of Ijebu paternal lineage and an investment banker and former treasurer of the banks where he worked before he even got to the age of 40. So, he is qualified to be the Governor of Lagos State as an Ijebu man. |

CSTRR: First and foremost, the federal allocation.
Oil resources are sold, and the revenues shared to hungry states in the SW, including Lagos.
Secondly, delta state is a major source of federal govt dollars.
Without delta state, govts would not be able to carry out infrastructural projects in the South West and yorubas would not be able to source dollars from the bank, for schooling trade and e.t.c.
Without dollars, imports cannot happen, and I don't need to tell you what that will lead to.
And lastly, without delta state, Nigerian currency would be less than tissue paper because there is very little dollars that would be coming in to support the naira. The vast majority of Nigerian dollars come from oil exports and delta is a major major oil state.
So respect your elders. I have to robustly step in here to educate you on Delta State's contributions to Nigeria's national income before you twist current and historical facts further in your reply to @placeofallure. First off, Bola Tinubu who is a technocrat, accountant and former treasurer with the American multinational oil and gas giant ExxonMobil, was responsible for laying the financial foundations and increasing the Lagos State IGR from a mere N13 billion annually to a huge N400 billion annually (mostly through PAYE and more) as of today through the continuity of governance. In addition, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a brilliant investment banker that worked in the international operations or Foreign Exchange departments, and he is a former treasurer in the banks where he worked all before the age of 40. Peter Obi only increased the Anambra State IGR by a mere N1 billion per annum from N7 billion to N8 billion in his 8 years as Governor. Kaduna State under Governor Nasir El-Rufai increased their IGR from N15 billion to a stellar N96 billion per annum in 8 years.
So, Lagos State can survive without monthly Federal allocation from oil exports because Lagos State generates more internally than it receives from Federal allocation, and the onshore and offshore oil and gas producing Ilaje-Yoruba areas of Ondo State have been contributing to the sustainance of the Nigerian national income too in Naira and USD, hence generating more income from oil and gas than Imo and Abia combined based on official data that can be found uploaded on NL and on other online platforms! The Itsekiris of Delta State in the oil and gas-rich areas such as Ugborodo (Ugborodo is the original name NOT Escravos), who have pure and direct Yoruba ancestry with their Ilaje cousins in Ondo State, have also contributed a LOT to the national income through crude oil export terminals from the Okan, Meji, Meta, and Meren oil fields, and more despite major oil spills that have led to water pollutions in those Itsekiri communities in Delta State where the largest percentage of crude oil and gas export earnings in Delta State come from. So, Yoruboid states or communities CANNOT be accused by you of parasitism or being "hungry" because of the vast contributions of the Ilajes and Itsekiris (who originally evolved from Ijebu, Ilaje, and Ife ancestral bloodlines all from Yorubaland) before the arrival in the 1490s in Ode Itsekiri (an Ijebu settlement which had Chief Lenuwa as their leader) of Prince Ginuwa the son of the then reigning Oba of Benin kingdom. Ginuwa's mother was one of the wives of the Oba of Benin and a Yoruba woman from Ile Ife in the modern-day State of Osun. I worked with a major multinational oil and gas company from the 1990s in PH as well. The vast contributions of the oil-producing States or areas such as Delta, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, Abia, etc, CANNOT be minimised in the grand scheme of things and they deserve a better deal before crude oil becomes useless in the near future. You the younger folks must also get informed on historical events and stop the ethnic bigotry. I hope this helps. Cc: @Placeofallure |

placeofallure: GRV was definitely high on something when he came on Arise TV. Go find the video. Then, his deputy, Oyefusi, is a shisha-smoking princess. You can forgive all that or feign ignorance but you can't overlook Tinubu's drug history that probably happened before you were born.
Tell me, I mean convince me, that Shinedu never smoke Igbo, Colorado plus Loud in that video. Radarada! @Placeofallure, I commend your warrior spirit in responding to these creeps who historically like to play the victim and guilt-trip other folks. It is time to activate the existing online defamation and incitement laws and get the DSS and other intel agencies to crack down on these emotionally weak ethnic bigots as a matter of urgency and charge them to court. Second, Tinubu never had a drug history in the U.S. in 1993. He only forfeited about $400,000 due to a previous backlog of unpaid taxes, but the U.S. Federal authorities returned $1 million of Tinubu's money to his U.S. bank accounts. All his money would have been seized because Americans have zero-tolerance for any drug baron. As far back as 2003, I remember that the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria had issued a press release debunking claims that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is a brilliant technocrat and former treasurer at ExxonMobil had or has any drug or criminal case in the U.S. So, a lot of these mainly Ibo LP or Obi urchins and supporters who were formerly in PDP were misled by PDP and LP propaganda to spread the falsehoods that Tinubu is a drug baron as far back as the 2000s. If Tinubu was or is a drug baron, the U.S. would have long ago arrested him and locked him up or requested for his extradiction from Nigeria to the U.S. Bola Tinubu also travels to the U.S. every year in his private jet and has never been arrested. Many of those who years ago started spreading ethnic hate, lies, criminally inciting posts, and doctored videos on NL and elsewhere online are now playing victims here on this thread. They will be brought to justice because they left vast digital evidence of their evil complicity over the years. |
