Politics › Re: No Time Limit For Reporting Rape Cases, Says Police by XAUBulls: 12:14am On Mar 25, 2023 |
edunwablog: The Nigerian Police yesterday said there is no time limit for reporting cases of rape and other sexual assaults to the security and other appropriate agencies in the country. They insisted that irrespective of how long it takes a rape victim to report the case, the Police and the state owe him or her a responsibility to diligently investigate the complaint and bring offenders to book.
Speaking in an exclusive interview yesterday with The Guardian in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba (a Deputy Commissioner of Police), however, added that although it doesn’t matter how long it takes before the reports are made, the sooner a victim calls the Police, the easier it is for it to collect the evidence needed to prove the charge.
He said: “But I will say without equivocation that when rape cases or other forms of abuses are reported timorously, the proximity in time between when the offence is committed and when they are reported helps the Police in managing investigation better, because the memories are fresher in the mind of the victim, the crime scene is less contaminated, it is easier to pick up traces and pieces of evidence from the crime scene and forensic investigations are easier and better handled.
“My recommendation is that victims of rape cases and other forms of sexual assault should endeavour to report their cases on time, but they must also know that there are no time bars to the investigation of rape cases.
“The offence is not statute-barred and they can decide to report their case any time they chose and the Police is duty-bound to investigate them.”
Mba explained that the Police have adopted a multifaceted approach in tackling the challenges associated with rape and other sexual offences, adding: “One of the things we have done is to create a specialised investigative and response units in almost all the Police stations and particularly at the State Criminal Investigative Department (CID) and Force CID levels. We have specialised sections called the Police Gender Units.
“We also have the Juvenile and Women Centres (JWC), which was specifically created, powered, trained and charged with the responsibility of responding to offences that touch on women and children, and rape is one of them. Rape is the focus of not just the gender unit, but also the juvenile and women centres.
“In some states of the federation, the Police have also been able to develop a functional and collaborative working relationship with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in those states. Our best example is Lagos State, where the state government has a dedicated unit at its teaching hospital charged with the responsibility of providing forensic support to the Police in their investigations of not just rape cases, but other sexual offences.”
Mba lamented that the Police is faced with fundamental challenges in their efforts to bring justices to rape victims and also punish and bring rape suspects and paedophiles to book, one of which is the reluctance on the part of rape victims to report rape incidence to the Police and other law enforcement agencies.
“At other times, they may make the report, but it may come very late. There is a need for us to look into some of the reasons why people are reluctant in reporting cases of rape and see how we can work together as a community and as a people to eliminate those fears.
“I think one of the reasons victims are reluctant to report cases of rape is fear of the stigmatisation that could arise from speaking out.
“The second reason, which I have also found out while relating one-on-one with some of the victims as a Police officer, is their discomfort with some of the investigative procedures.
“A lot of them are also reluctant to report for fear of embarrassment that could be associated with their report arising from media coverage. The fear of negative publicity and embarrassment associated with such publicity is also a factor.
“We have also discovered that some of the rapists leave their victims with ongoing threats of bodily harm and blackmail.”
The Force spokesman, however, explained that the Police has created special units to provide privacy to victims during the processes of investigations and assurance that their fears and concerns would be taken care of, adding: “We are also pursuing witnesses protective programmes that could help to protect the victims and their witnesses so as to give them that assurance of safety and security.”
He said most rape cases are committed by people that are known to the victims, noting: “Of all the reports we have, over 90 per cent of them are committed by acquaintances, the people that know the victims.”
Mba disclosed that the Force has been carrying out massive prosecution of rape suspects across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Similarly, the Director of Public Enlightenment, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Arinze Orakwe, told The Guardian in an exclusive interview in Abuja, yesterday, that rape victims reserve the right to disclose their experiences anytime they wish, saying there is no national template on the timeframe a rape victim should disclose her harrowing experience.
But he called for the review of the law guiding rape cases in Nigeria to swing in favour of victims, as it would stem the tide of rising cases of paedophile and rape in the country.
He explained that the burden of proof that is placed on victims is aiding rapists and assaulters to go unpunished, adding: “NAPTIP will fully support the review of the rape law. While I am not speaking on behalf of NAPTIP, I as an individual and operator support the review of the law. The law as presently crafted is a burden on victims. Indeed, the law seeks to dampen the morale of families of victims to press charges, because it is almost impossible to prove rape cases successfully in our court of law, because of the evidence that is required.”
Orakwe also noted that NAPTIP would continue to appeal to parents to know that they are the first responders by way of protecting their children, insisting: “Parents must mind whom they leave their children with because the family knows paedophiles. Children normally submit their basic security instincts to uncles, pastors, neighbours or aunties. That is why we emphasise to parents that they must mount the first roadblock, mount the first resistance against these acts.”

Seun: Dear Igbo People,
I sincerely apologize for allowing a toxic political banner advert which said, "Lagos can never be run from Anambra; go and vote" to run on Nairaland for several hours on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
The mischievously worded banner advert appears to have been part of an ethnically divisive political campaign aimed at securing Lagos State for the ruling party by instilling fear in Yoruba people, making them believe that Igbo people intended to "take over" Lagos State.
Such ethnically divisive political campaigns have no place in a forward-thinking democracy, and for this reason, the ad should have been taken down instantly. No harm was intended, but my lack of forethought about the ethics of that type of advert led to a disappointing outcome.
We should have had a clear policy against accepting negative and ethnically divisive ads on Nairaland, we should have communicated it to all advertisers, and we should have taken down any advert that violated that policy instantly. This will all be in place before the next election.
We made almost N16,000 from the ad. We will double it and donate it to victims of political violence in Lagos.
Please, do NOT give up on Nigeria. The times are challenging, but TOGETHER, we will overcome.
Sincerely, Seun Osewa. I am just reading this thread Seun and I have deep insights and brutally honest truth to share with you all here that will open your eyes to prevent being guilt-tripped by despicable bigots and ignorant analyses. That NL banner ad did NOT contribute to any violence in Lagos State. The "Edo no be Lagos" slogan which was all over NL is NOT different from this. Several very TOXIC, irresponsible LIES and inciting posts by well-known NL Ibo trolls stating that the iconic Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, died via suicide in 1987 from drinking rat poison are FALSE... and further more, the inciting posts that Lagos State is a "no man's land" by some Ibos, the unguarded past history of anti-Yoruba Twitter posts and past Ipob/biafra sympathy by Gbadebo Vivour, etc, triggered the sequence of ethnically charged events in some locations in Lagos State. Besides, what apologies have YOU Seun given to over 50 million people of Yoruba descent for the many TOXIC, vicious and criminally inciting anti-Yoruba/anti-Yoruba Muslim, doctored videos and fake news that have been posted here on NL threads by irredentist Ibos and Ipob trolls for many years now and during every election cycle since about 2010? I have been a veteran member of NL since 2005 with an older NL account, and there is massive digital evidence of TOXIC online attacks and cyberbullying of Yorubas (Including the relentless, organised false attacks on the now President-Elect of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu), Kanuris (Including the criminal fake news that Kashim Shetima of APC is a Boko Haram terrorist sponsor was widely spread mainly by the Peter Obi supporters of Ibo origin on and off NL, and the false accusation was debunked by The BBC Global Disinformation Team Report), Northerners, Itsekiris, Ijaws, and other minority ethnicities over territorial claims, geopolitics, rejection of Ibo secession by ethnic minorities and more. Those who over the years are responsible for initiating hate speech and ethnically-based cyberbullying on and off NL will be brought to justice in major sting operations! WhatsApp group administrators, and other online platforms are liable for the criminal incitements and defamation of character of public figures and citizens under existing Nigerian Cyber Crime laws. Ignorance of the law is NOT an excuse. Period. Cc: Freestuffsng, Kininifoods, omonnakoda, aljharem |

Creeper: Itsekiri Account
Well it started around the reign of Olu ijijen after the death of first Olu Ginuwa one of his son Ijijen went to Ode itsekiri where he was welcomed in during his walking into the capital he saw faces frowning and he asked what the problem is the people said they can’t be paying taxes to two masters and they can’t have two kings Olu ijijen said “take me to this man whom they call master” when he got to Olagues house he said “I am Olu ijijen ruler of Iwere I have come to let you know the people of this region are now under my rule and so all taxes being paid to you as of this moment has stopped”
Olague didn’t say anything or reply his word he went inside his house in his quarters in ode itsekiri when the Olu was going back Olague warriors shot an arrow against the king which scratched his shoulders Olu ijijen was prepared for something like that he took his few men and took down the Olague warriors but unfortunately Olague escaped the capital and ran away the itsekiri’s were happy and said Olague has been a tyrant forcing them to pay taxes the itsekiri’s being happy gave the Olu the title Ogbowuru
But Olu ijijen injuries from the fight never healed he died years later without an heir because of his condition from the fight his brother Olu Irame took over as Olu of Warri during one of his coronation anniversary he heard of the Olague’s having a kingdom that is expanding and giving troubles to the itsekiri’s in benin river, Olu Irame Wanted Revenge and also that the oba of Benin is tired of them.
the Mahins and Benin kingdom had a disagreement about power balance, that made the mahins to attack the benin kingdom communities close to the river banks. but they also attacked itsekiri communities also close to the river banks. those communities was under the kingdom of warri at the time (if they knew that some of the communities they attacked were itsekiri’s or they didn’t its not known)
the oba of Benin planned a land invasion, the Olu of Warri being angry at the attack on his river communities also his hatred for Olague he sent message to the oba, Olu Irame told the messengers to tell his cousin the oba of benin that he should prepare for war against the mahins that he will gather his forces both their strength will crush Olague…..
the war would have been won by the mahins because the oba could not have been successful as the mahins have naval forces something the benins doesn’t have their navy plans to use the large army out of benin kingdom to attack benin from the back through the river that would force the oba to retreat and would put the oba in the middle of the war getting attacks from front and back but the mahins navy was destroyed by the Warri Fleets “warri kingdom navy’s that was said to be the most powerful with 30,000 men and 70,000 war canoes at the time after Bonny kingdom navy” (Jean-François Landolphe)
The Warriors of Warri took control of the sea and invaded through the shores that gave opportunity to the oba after he heard his cousin is attacking from the river this put the mahin warriors in the middle of the battlefield most of them scattered and their citizens were displaced and ran away
When the Olu pushed more into the battlefield and saw the oba of Benin bathing with the blood of the citizens and warriors of mahins he didn’t like what he saw, so he stretched his left hands to the sky and uses his right hand to point to the boats at the sea shores the warriors of Warri fighting stops immediately seeing the beads of their king pointing to the sky and the sea shores meaning to leave the battlefield immediately the warri kingdom forces pulled away from the war and went back to the itsekiri communities that was attacked and there after left to warri kingdom capital (ode itsekiri)
The Oba of Benin having learned his cousin left like that was angry he lost a lot of man power the Olu of Warri later sent Some loot he got from the war to the Oba of Benin as so he doesn’t misunderstands his retreat from the war.
Olague had already escaped to what is now known as Lagos, the Olu wasn’t interested in chasing him further but he sent the oba of Benin 3000 fleets which paddled the oba to what is known today as Eko they were welcomed by the Aworis who were already aware of their coming the Aworis told them in other to catch Olague they need to station themselves in two entry points of area
The Aworis gave The oba a place where he stationed himself at Eko the itsekiri’s military were given a place where they camped at Epe and also where they found ijebu speaking people the Aworis joined in the search for Olague then came back to tell the itsekiri warriors that Olague was already dead they sent word to warri about what they were told but the Olu of Warri told them even if Olague is dead he wants his head so the soldiers remained in Epe.
The oba of Benin went back without the itsekiri escorts in a rush after he heard there was a coup attempt back in benin to dethrone him but he was attacked by the mahins/ilaje where he was drowned and killed his son Ehengbuda was crowned new Oba who wanted to take revenge against the mahins/ilaje but failed in doing so and also died.

Politics › Re: How Benin Arrived In Lagos (eko) - Ilaje (mahin/ugbo) And Itsekiri Account by XAUBulls: 8:52pm On Mar 24, 2023 |
Ilaje (Mahin/Ugbo) AccountBenin & Itsekiri joined forces to checkmate Mahin under Alagwe (Olague) and they barely had their way with the assistance of the Portuguese mercenaries. One of these clashes led to Benin's foray into Lagos in the 1600s. The wars also claimed the lives of rulers across the kingdoms. It was during the reign of Olu Irame that the Itsekiris were said to be free from Mahin/Alagwe torment while the death of Oba Ehengbuda at the hands of the Mahins brought an end to the hostilities between Benin and Mahin. 𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐀𝐇𝐈𝐍 (𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐉𝐄) 𝐯𝐬. 𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐄𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐈/𝐁𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐒 The Mahins and their leader called Alagwe in Ilaje (Olague in Itsekiri and Oague in Benin) were core part of the pre Olu and Itsekiri people. They were the aborigines and Alagwe reigned supreme in father to son succession over the old Itsekiri area. Now when the first Olu, Prince Ginuwa emerged from Benin and sojourned through many places which include today part of Ijaw land he arrived Ijala where he breathed his last. Ginuwa had no issues with the aborigines of the area including Alagwe who was so wealthy, affluent and very powerful, residing in a well decorated quarter in Ode Itsekiri. But when Ginuwa died his sons who were later settled at Ode Itsekiri after leaving Ijala became unruly and started demanding obeisance from their hosts. The successor of Ginuwa, Ijijen was taxing and demanding tributes from the aborigines which Alagwe and his group took exception to. It won't be long before war broke out and from some accounts the first fighting claimed the life of Ijijen and when Irame took over the reign he sought help from Benin, Ijaws and later Portuguese. Now, Alagwe was more of mystical figure; endowed with traditional power and war prowess that made him invisible in battles. He was described as juju in some European journals which include 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝑩𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏; 𝑰𝒕𝒔 𝑪𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒔, 𝑨𝒓𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑯𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒃𝒚 𝑯𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒚 𝑳𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒐𝒕𝒉. However the game changed with the superior firepower of Olu Irame, and Alagwe was forced to retreat with his group, first to settle a place call Aba-Alagwe and later Ukparamo (meaning a hidding place in ancient Yoruboid language). It was during the reign of one the Alagwes at Ukparamo that a strategic land was discovered and relocated to. The place is known as Mahin today. The land is named after a particular wood/tree called Umaghen/Omeghen in Ilaje dialect found in abundance in the area. The people prospered, flourished and expanded at Mahin. It was said Mahin practically had all the making of an empire under one of their kings named Alagwe Goro. The Mahin ruler was the overlord of the coastal way from Lagos to the boundary with Warri while the hostilities with the Olu and Benin on one hand rages intermittently. The Olu and Benin ruler were said to be greatly disturbed and tormented by Alagwes. They felt threatened by his kingdom expansion and had to strategise and device a means to checkmate him. The Oba and Olu were also said to have maintained ties with some Ilaje chiefs of the time. Worthy to note some kings of Benin were born/raised in Ilaje in time past and some Ilaje were recorded to have rendered many spiritual, healing and war assistance to Benin. So there were account of espionage within Ilaje which revealed Alagwe cult's war secrets, oro rite to Benin and Itsekiri ahead of a big clash that proved decisive. The clash was so fierce that it claimed so many lives on all sides but the coalition and their firepower was too much for the Mahin to repel and in the end Alagwe was said to have disappeared into the river around Emina while the Benins and Itsekiri looted Mahin's treasures. Among what they looted was the finest of salts of the time and artifacts of spiritual and cultural significance. The Mahin had a thriving salt, fish, mat and clothing industry. They were so organised, civilised, rich and commercialised as recorded even by pro Benin historians. See 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒏, 𝑺𝒊𝒓, 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒃𝒚 𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑶𝒃𝒂 𝑬𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒖𝒘𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑳𝒂𝒈𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 1603, 𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔 𝑱𝒐𝒔𝒉𝒖𝒂 𝑼𝒍𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌. The Benin took the salt home and savour it and had a special song dedicated to its discovery in Mahin. Oba Orhogbua set foot in Lagos for the first time in the aftermath of the war, arriving with a largely depleted armies. Much was not recorded of the Olu of Warri afterward as it thus appeared they vacated the epicentre of the war and returned back to his capital Ode Itsekiri and had no real interest in spreading of influence up to Lagos like Oba Orhogbua who was taken to Lagos in fleets belonging to itsekiri’s in chase of Alagwe. Meanwhile, the Mahin quickly picked themselves up from the war and regrouped for a revenge battle. For fear of the Mahins siege Oba Orhogbua had a prolonged stay in Lagos and elected for a longer and tedious inland route back to Benin passing through the Akure country side. Some said he was still attacked and barely escaped with his life. He died shortly after his return to Benin and was succeeded by his son, Ehengbuda who led another war against the Mahins, but this was final, and a real total massacre of Benin armies. Ehengbuda was killed by Alagwe's people at Eluju Ibila alongside his armies with some captured and sold as slaves. The Mahin-Ilaje have a song that they use to recount that feat till today. Regardless of the past hostilities Mahin/Ilajes and Itsekiris are of the same stock. One people! https://twitter.com/lord_of_warri/status/1636053230701379588?s=46&t=cDvmaODjfVry7evXWsXd0A
|

crushsugar: The question is why would I leave in the first place? Simple answer is I was tired. Tired of the structure, staffing, poor opportunities, I felt stuck and just wanted more. I wanted to see what's going on out there. I wanted to be part of a standard setting and reach for my dreams which seems impossible for me or would have taken so much time. This wasn't about money. It's about fulfilment. So, my dream of working abroad started about 2 years after school of nursing. I was working but not happy, after going for post basic program, I still felt stuck somewhere even with a public service job. With all the experiences I don't want to bore is with, I finally made up my mind in October 2018. Booked IELTS UKVI, in January and did the test March 1st. It came out well. Then I searched for a potential employer, did the interview and was offered appointment. So, paper work began. |

My anger is with our Igbo folks making it sound like GRV is being persecuted by Yorubas cos his mum is Igbo, even when they know the truth. Governors Adeleke, Makinde and Akeredolu and Desmond Elliot all have familial affiliations with Igbos or South South yet they were massively supported by the same Yorubas. Shouldn't that tell some of these stupid people trying the make this GRV issue all about his Igbo mum that it isn't.
Never has any politician insulted Yorubas the way this GRV has done. Igbo politicians have been enjoying support from the same Lagos. None of them has insulted Yorubas like GRV does. He should publicly apologize to them for all the derogatory utterances he made about yorubas over social media.
He should also rephrase that his 'I don't think in yoruba claim'.
He should go and learn yoruba language properly. Even an average non yoruba on the street understands and speaks yorubas fluently. It is very important if you really want to connect to people from the grass root especially as a politician. |

Being coastal does not automatically translate into significant winds Ever head of any hurricanes in our coasts? The coastal incurving into those two bights means we do not have great winds compare to the PanHandle e.g Omonnakoda, There is nothing like Bight of biafra (renamed as Bight of Bonny in 1967) in Nigerian maritime lexicon. It's actually not new. Bola Tinubu started the IPP in lagos years ago. It was an Independent power project that was done in Lekki I think. Then Fashola continued and commisioned another. It's still in use till now. They should have just developed more but Ambode kicked against everything Fashola. Hate him or love him (BAT), I knew what lasgidi was like before 1999 and after, most especially Oshodi, where the roads were so bad, you needed to look for a place where rocks were arranged to cross the road or you enter the mud to cross and then pay some folks to wash your legs. BAT really tried. If each person that comes into government delivers a major project, we will soon find it hard to get big projects to work on. That is a steady way to development. My own opinion.
Indeed. BAT started the Enron project. |

Second, do you work as a healthcare professional in the health sector to have known about the "deep rooted bullying" you referenced here? I am stunned by this revelation. I know about the reported bullyings and sexual harassments of some female soldiers in the U.S. and Israeli armed forces by their male superiors, but the health sector just made my eyes widen in disbelief! |

placeofallure: Men are most desirable when in their 40s Yeah, 40s is the real deal... you do know what's up. For desirability in a woman, 29-35 range is it for me. Women are far more mature at that point after gaining some measure of confidence, career and financial stability. |

placeofallure: No, nothing of the sort. It's UK and for studies and work. The man pushing is family, an uncle, me no wan go, but he just wants me to go. He believes more opportunities abound there. He's lived and worked there too. Hubby will join later. Oh, I see! That's fine though if the offer is from your fam member in the UK. I've got fam in the UK... My younger brother lives there too with his immediate fam. There's been a spike in inflation in the UK due to global financial headwinds, but with focus, one can develop streams of income to weather the storm. London is more expensive than areas such as Manchester so you just have to figure out how to cut cost. You should give it a try though since it's for education and work ... and you have a small nuclear family. The exchange rate differential majorly is what makes folks in Nigeria to want to leave, otherwise, why go to struggle in another country? I still remember how back in the early to late 1980s, Nigerians used to fly regularly on holidays to the UK and NY onboard the iconic British Caledonian, PanAm, and Nigeria Airways and return. Those days can still be got back and even better with proper decentralization of the economy based on innovation. Talk to you later. |

Throwback: No I didn't. I grew up on the Mainland, but visited the Island a lot with my dad.
My father and his own father were born there and grew up there, maybe my Great Grandfather was born there too at a time Lagos was a place in West Africa without any Nigerian description. @Throwback, that's awesome! You are literally an Omo Eko (Lagos Island) based on your genealogy. I have maternal family roots from Lagos Island too before 1900. A lot of history is embedded right there. I've read books on Lagos Island history from the pre-Colonial era to the post-Colonial era, but look forward to reading the one written by the cerebral Lagos lawyer Supo Shasore which is insightful based on the excerpts I've read. All the best. |

Evergreen12345: Obinna came to lagos five years ago, he was a tenant, he probably had a landlord who was Yoruba and was paying his rent.
5 to 10 years later, Obinna’s hustle has paid off, he wants to buy a land to build a hotel.
The land is normally sold for 3 million Naira, but the Omo Oni Ile( a group of people who call the themselves owners of the land even when they don’t own the said land, but they must be settled before anything) tell Obinna that he must pay an extra two million to settle them.
They further demand various things and finally obinna buys the land for 6 million.
Obinna builds his hotel and even tars the road to the hotel.
Obinna’s hotel is flourishing and Obinna’s friends decide to invest too.
Chukwudi, Nonso, Nnamdi, Osita; all Obinna’s friends, come to buy land.
Segun, Aremu, Ola, Gbenga, Olu, Segu Abiola, Tunde, Afeez, Moruf, Lanre, Kehinde, Taiwo, all of them making up the omo oni ile, demand 8 million naira from Obinna’s friends, adding two million naira since they saw that Obinna’s hotel flourished.
Obinna’s friends each pay for the land and build their businesses and they even tar the road too.
2 years later, Omo Oni iles have finished up all the money, then they go on national Tv crying hot tears, that Obinna and his friends are taking their land.
©️ Princess Adaeze Emejuru This is one of the highly uncouth, overbearing, irresponsible, inciting and largely false posts that some emotionally weak Ibo trolls circulate online and offline that draw hatred and anger towards Ibos for many years now from many Nigerian ethnicities and are being fueled by some rabid young Ibos online. Even Chinua Achebe talked about this weakness and unnecessary exhibitionism and excessive pride some Ibos exhibit in the last book he wrote in 2012. |

HydraFeeds: It’s called certificate of occupancy for a reason ,the government has power over the land you bought and the property can be retracted at any time(though with compensation)
And point of correction ,don’t think Ola,Jide and co are not doing well for themselves in Lagos, let’s look at the entertainment industry for instance ,which ethnic group dominates the industry ? Same applies to several industries despite the influx of Obinnas and co that want to experience the benefits Lagos offers which where they are coming from does not offer.
There are a lot of Igbos in Lagos that live in one room apartment and some in ghetto homes even though they’ve moved to Lagos for over 10years .
You should have mentioned those that sell on traffic ,chargers, beer parlors, ashewo joints ,factory workers etc that are claiming Lagos is no man’s land .
PS 1: I love the Igbos and I have many of them as acquaintances .
PS 2: I’ve seen many Igbos dislike the word “Omo Ibo” ,they consider it as derogatory even though it’s not in the eyes of Yorubas ,my question is ,what should we call you in place of “Omo Ibo” ? Omo Ibo is not derogatory or an ethnic slur... Just like harmlessly saying, Omo Yoruba, Omo Ogun, Omo Ekiti, Omo Edo. No need to feel insecure. |
