The attention of the Army Headquarters has been drawn to the Press Release by DCP FRANK MBA FORCE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER FORCE HEADQUARTERS ABUJA Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.2/68 Date: 7th August, 2019 on the unfortunate incident that occurred on the 6th of August 2019 in which troops of 93 Battalion Nigerian Army Takum pursued and exchanged fire with some suspected Kidnappers who indeed turned out to be an Intelligence Response Team from the Police Force Headquarters Abuja on a covert assignment from Abuja resulting in the death and injury of some members of the Team.
On the 6th of August 2019, the said Nigerian Army troops, while responding to a distressed call to rescue a kidnapped victim exchanged fire with the suspected kidnappers along Ibi-Wukari Road in Taraba State.
The suspected kidnappers numbering about ten (10) and driving in a white bus with Reg No LAGOS MUS 564 EU refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three consecutive check points. The flagrant refusal of the suspected kidnappers to stop at the three checkpoints prompted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects by the troops. It was in this process that the suspected kidnappers who were obviously armed opened fire at the troops sporadicaly thus prompting them to return fire.
In the resultant fire fight, four (4) suspects were shot and died on the spot while four (4) others sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and 2 others reportedly missing. It was only after this avoidable outcome that one of the wounded suspects disclosed the fact that they were indeed Policemen dispatched from Nigerian Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja for a covert assignment.
However, following inquiries from a Police Station officer who was asked by the commander of the Army troops whether he was aware of any Nigerian Police team being dispatched to operate in the LGA, the Divisional Police Officer of Ibi Police Division responded that he was not informed about any operation by the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters thus lending credence to the distressed call from members of the community that the suspects who turned out to be Policemen on a covert mission were rather suspected kidnappers.
This incident is indeed quite unfortunate and could have been avoided through proper coordination and liaison as the Nigerian Police Force are partners in the fight against crimes such as kidnapping amongst myriads of other internal security threats confronting our nation of which the Nigerian Police is the lead Agency.
In order to avert future occurrences of this nature, the Army Headquarters and the Force Headquarters of the Nigerian Police have agreed to constitute a Joint lnvestigation Panel to be headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Mike Ogbizi, to jointly investigate and report on the true circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident. Therefore, until the Joint Investigation Panel concludes and submits its report, it will be premature to officially conclude and speak on the real circumstances that caused this unfortunate but very avoidable unfortunate incident.
SAGIR MUSA Colonel Acting Director Army Public Relations 7 August 2019
The Nigerian Army is so used to lying they don't even know when to tell the truth. Shame on Sagir Musa and that dunderhead called Buratai.
People give human intelligence that cannot be executed due to possible civilian casualty.
Every single attack is being recorded by the ISR platform.
The enemies (Armed Bandits) in the NW are firing at NAF aircrafts in attempt to bring them down. Mostly using AK47 and rarely with Anti aircraft guns.
He talks about intelligence fusion centre where all agencies collaborate and synergies. No single incidence of NAF commiting blue n' blue on sister agencies cos of the level of coordination.
NAF has treated over 300,000 thousand civilians through her medical outreach.
First female fighter pilot and attack helicopter pilot coming soon...
Ladies, it has been confirmed, to be a Chief of Air Staff, you must have flown in an aircraft.
The Chief of Air Staff is talking about people on Facebook who complain about NAF not getting advance aircraft like they are something you can just pick off the shelf.
SH*T, He just confirmed that the Super Tucano aircraft won't arrive till 2021.
He talked about potential in house production of aircraft.
He is talking about the RANN incident. He claimed the DHQ had made the report of the attack public. I am not sure they have.
Over 60% of the flight by NAF is ISR.
He claimed they don't use bombs in the NW (recall the claim of the Traditional rulers in Zamfara and its environs?)
So are we going to ignore the fact that a disturbingly large chunk of this rampaging bandits are Fulani bororoje?
A friend once narrated his uncle's experience while travelling to Lagos from... Ordinarily, his uncle would travel by air but on that day he decided to travel by road (a decision that ALMOST cost him his life and almost made his little children FATHERLESS). They were almost in Lagos when they were waylaid by gun totting men with fingers on the trigger ready to blow any person's head off. The passengers were all stopped and stripped-searched. All their valuables were seized. The so called bandits pinned an Ak-47 to his (my friend's uncle's) forehead, collected his money, watch and even the certificates in his luggage.
"They were Fulanis," he said. Just like almost all recent kidnapping incidents in Nigeria, the perpetrator were Fulanis bororoje.
Also, over 90% of kidnapper suspects arrested in recent times by police are Fulani bororoje. You should see this BBC documentary.
I get it that it is not okay to conflate Fulani bororojes with these devilish activities, however the crux of this issue is that there is something going on that is metamorphosing this once "peaceful herdsmen" into armed bandits.
So, our next discussion should be on how: We can stop these kidnappings. Fix our borders. Encourage ranching. Track the movements of these nomads and possibly integrating them into our societies.
mekussa: If it were an ANTONOV or ILYUSHIN, I would be dancing, knowing some goodies just landed... These Globemaster planes don't come with such goodies.... Maybe this is an exception (I doubt it sha)
I see them often in the Sky of Abuja. I think they are just on embassy run like someone had pointed out earlier.
Chelseafan99: You chased SSBM away already, you gonna so the same to these guys? Cmon men, why can't we agree to disagree sometimes. This is a defence thread and there is no point clamping down on people saying the truth. I don't get you guys here sometimes. Do you all just want to dwell in la la land forever? Criticizing the govt approach to our security is not a bad thing. You pepple really need to stop and allow people air their views. Please. I'm begging. We learn everyday.
Don't sweat it, he will be back (that is if he isn't already). That is like his fifth account or something.
To boost the fight against the dreaded Boko Haram and ISWAP terror organization ravaging the region, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has established a new forward base at Diffa Airport, Nigér Republic. Following the development, the NAF has deployed it’s ATR-42 Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft as well as multiple Alpha jets for ISR and air interdiction missions
The newly formed base is expected to reduce reaction time by the Air Force when confronting the deadly sect since Diffa is closer to the epicentre of conflict zone than the Air Task Force 105 Composite Group based in Maiduguri as well as the 75th Strike Group operating in Yola.
Niger republic which is a member of the Nigerian-led Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) already possesses two Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot close air support aircraft, one Mil Mi-24 Hind assault helicopter, as well as various ISR aircraft such as the US, donated Cessna 208 and Diamond DA42 surveillance aircraft.
Is this a recent news? Because I have heard of Nigerian Air Force conducting sorties from Nigerien base in Diffa because of it proximity to Lake Chad.
If you ask me, I will say it isn't. You recall the meeting Buhari had with some high ranking Nigerièn? The outcome of that meeting was that NAF started using the base in Diffa to cut short the time of sorties.
giles14: but the AGM 65 is not included in the NAF A-29 weapons package.
The Super Tucano will come with guided munitions such as Paveway II and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) laser-guidance kits and ammunition.
These can be deployed from far range that would render AA guns less potent.
We don't need the Mavericks cos they are expensive. The APKWS kits will do just fine.
