LG has unveiled the world's first 8-inch tablet with a full-HD display.

The G Pad 8.3 made its debut at the company's open house event at IFA in Berlin.

It weighs just 12oz (338g) - the same as a newspaper - and easily fits in one hand but boasts a powerful battery and processor.

LG claims G Pad 8.3 is the first tablet of its class to feature a full HD display, with a 1920 x 1200 Widescreen Ultra Extended Graphics Array (WUXGA) to deliver top picture quality.

The wifi-only device will be launched globally in October and though LG remain tight-lipped on price it is expected to fall within the same bracket as similar 8-inch products.

Dr Jong-seak Park, president and chief executive of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said:

"Complementing our G Series smartphones, the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 further strengthens LG's premium lineup consisting of our most cutting-edge devices.
"Our G Pad is just another example of LG delivering devices with the unique selling points consumers around the world will appreciate."

G Pad 8.3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Processor with 1.7GHz Quad-Core CPU, giving powerful performance.

LG's QPair app means every call and message received on a smartphone or tablet - including those from other manufacturers - is also displayed on G Pad.

G Pad 8.3 users can also control up to three different apps in one window using QSlide, while KnockON activates the device when the display is tapped twice.

James Marshall, head of product marketing for LG Europe, told the Press Association: "The display on this device is outstanding.

"This is the first time we have used this display and it gives this brilliant, full HD experience."

The long-awaited arrival of Blackberry Messenger seems to be finally here, as Blackberry accidentally released the user guides for BBM for iOS and Android.

Techcrunch reports that for previous BBM users from BlackBerry, most of these details are familiar. The apps are designed to allow for real-time communication between contacts and groups, the guides explain, letting users share pictures and messages, including broadcast messages, multi-person chats, and group chats. Users will also be able to create BBM Groups, where they can plan events, track to-do’s, share photos, and chat with up to 30 people at a time, without the need to add everyone as BBM contacts.

BBM will work over both cellular and Wi-Fi, the latter option which is meant to help avoid data charges when traveling.

Each user can establish their own BBM profile, where they can choose a display picture, name, and status that their contacts will see, and they’ll also have a unique BBM PIN which they can access by tapping “Show Barcode.”

This is a major move for the struggling company, as BBM has for a long time been one of Blackberry, and the BB10′s, strongest features. At launch, Heins had said that only messaging and group features will be available, but promised that the rest of BBM will eventually make its way to the Android and iOS versions including screen sharing, BBM voice, and the newer BBM channels.
