niniowo:I absolutely agree with your very astute and concise argument. Each has it's place. It has taken works of fiction to move my 12 year old from play stations and tv to becoming a bookworm. My own history is littered with great works of fiction which were an escape and coping mechanism for some of life unpleasantries. It was even the characters in some of these books who became so real to me that I got motivated by them to make something of my life and not succumb to the poverty that was about me at the time. I have dabbled in motivational literature in my adult life and they did serve to affirm what I already know, but they have rarely inspired a creative thought in me, and so yes, they are incomparable. |

aslan333:Can I then recommend that you post in more than one site because that is incredibly frustrating to the reader and I can't imagine how you must feel about your work. I'd like to see if there's a way you can send directly to my blog to be saved as draft and then I'll publish once I've formatted if this is agreeable to you or let us know if there's somewhere else we can access your original pieces. Much Love and more kudos to you, W |

There is a trend that shouldn't be copied by any serious writer.Don't just blog because others are doing,if you must, blog on the topic you are home with, that may be where your goldmine is hiding, !Ofala I've been thinking about what you saying for about a week now. I started blogging recently, I'm not a writer as much as I'd love to become one and IT/technology is a kind of interesting animal to me but an animal none the less and so this was a big decision, deciding on learning two things at once. I've realized that my blog doesn't really have much of a relationship with what I specialize it and I'm wondering if I should create a separate one for that(career related) or just a separate page on the same blog which is really about the things I love. I really am not sure what to at this point because I do love the content of my current blog as generalized as it is. But I do think you're correct in what you're 100%. i'd love to get some feedback from you guys about my blog: ]http://fabulosityworks..com/2011/01/book-club.html |
This thread is such a fabulous idea thank you poster. I can wait until to visit some of the blog pages I see here. Coincidentally I just started blogging a week or so ago. I'd love for Nairalanders to visit me: ]http://fabulosityworks..com/2011/01/book-club.html here's a lil description from my page to give you and idea of what I'm into: I want this blog to be about beautiful people, fabulous things and splendid to dos. I hope to encourage me & whoever else is interested to aspire for self actualization with sublime fabulosity and swagger in the 21st century. |
Did you write this poetic peice? I'm gonna die of ecstacy Give me strength, give me strength |
Hi Alsan333. It's the first time I've come across you work but I really find it so beautiful and this is such a pleasant surprised to find in Nigerian medium. I'm not a writer but am so i love with books and writers that I think I am intrinsically linked to them. I started a blog last week which I thought was one way of at least committing myself to actually write something about anything, even of only a paragraph. Guesse what was my first blog called: the Book Clib and it's the one it seems people are viewing them most. I'd love for you and your fans to visit but more importantly, with your permission I'd like to post your work there now and again and of course I would give full credit to the writer. I just think more people should see what you write, it is a gift. now I have two point I want to share with you about this specific piece, one is a negative and the other a positive, I am not any kind of expert and I would hate to offend you but I hope you will consider this one. My favorite paragraph contains both: I sit on the floor for hours, until the sunlight streams through my window. I light a cigarette with shaky hands. My beautiful Michelle some kind of witch, I can’t believe it. I go to the drawer and check if my shotgun is still there. I already have blood on my hands so killing Michelle will just be one more. There is no way I am going out through some strange sick naughty woman. I take another glass of scotch to cool my nerves. What I really need is sexual healing I say to myself. So I call up one of my girls, Catherine. I know I treat her like dirt but I pay her good. After a night of sadistic hedonism I push Catherine away and drift off to sleep.1. this paragraph is like the rush of heat you get before an , hits when making love, if you know what I mean and then that word (naughty) is so weak it breaks the momentum and leads to a deflation. Children who write on the dining room wall are naughty, a child that breaks your favourite CD is naughty, a witch can in no way be in that category of predictive adjectives. We need a word with punch, like: evil, flagitious, heinous, iniquitous, sinful, ungodly, nefarious, villainous, what do you think? 2. I absolutely and absolutely love the juxtapositioning of sadistic hedonism. It is such a superb depiction of what happened that night without going into the gory details. Simply put my brother I am head over heels with adoration and love with your work. Hi there, I suspect sometimes that some people come on here and post things for attention, don't you think? And I think that's really the disadvantage about the anonymity in this sight. This sounds like someone who was bored and concocted something for conversation. I must admit though that I love the laughter I get from some stories. Like the guy who once asked of he should marry his girl whom he just found out has scanty hair, lol |
Does my Naija want to know where I am and what I'm doing 24/7, no, is it a problem for me to show reasonable affection to male friends (his and mine) - no. Does he have a issue when I go out on my own to a club looking as hot as hell. A definite yes - so he makes a point of going with me. But isn't that all men. It just takes a while to break him into understanding that his word is law for only as long as you approve of it. There is no good or bad men because he's Nigerian, South African or American. A man is possessive or not possessive because he just is. Don't let people's opinions rob rob you of life experiences. And might I add, a Nigerian man will treat you the way you want him to treat you. So you decide on what you want to show him and he'll move on from there. from South Africa |
this post sounds like a line from one of those horribly predictable Naija movies. So I see that inspiration is from real life if this is to be believed and if that's the case, my sister have enough love and respect for yourself, if for no one else, to find yourself a man. This is desperation calling. |
Mrs. Eve I totally love your suggestion PTBNaija you have done an outstanding job. I think you should take this advise, which ever one works. Start with PTB's and then of that doesn't work go for Mrs' Eve's. Tell him you were not upfront about it coz u were trying to spare his feelings. Good luck |
I think you should hold off on buying that gift considering your emotional state now. When you buy the gift do so because you value his friendship and it is your expression of that rather than in the hopes that he'll fall for you. If he has not managed to fall in love with you for you instead of what you can do for him than no amount of affection from him is worth it because it will be measured against your next best gift. So I recommend that if you give it to him, give without expectation. Can you give him this gift and be happy when he decides to settle for someone else, as he is just your friend? If the answer is no, no matter how difficult it is, do not do it. Why don't you talk to him about it if you know each other well enough to buy him extraordinarily expensive stuff. As you friend, the worst he can do is let you down nicely, that way you know exactly where you stand. Take him to lunch or take him for a picnic. It's a lot less expensive and painful than a broken heart. I was once in your spot years ago and I did just that and to this day we're still friends but I dare say he does regret his decision now. At times we under estimate how sensitive guys can be. Even though he let me down, I was happy we continued being friends and he pretended nothing ever happened. As God would have it, it was through him I met my husband of 6 years now. So never put your eggs in one basket and invest your money and emotions wisely. ![]() |
Plutarch:I know what you mean, I settled for the list minus: He must b rich. He must not v pot belly with 6 packs And it was the best decision ever. I think 6 out of 9 is the best you can do hey. |
Medjai darling in the perfect world that should be true. But packaging does make the content even more attractive, yes? ![]() |
As this thread has proven, Odunuu case in point, Naija women have a long way to go, first starting with getting out of denail and being real. I must not be too harsh though because I will only make my first trip to Naija next easter and I have spoken to my sister in laws who have been nothing but lovely all these years albeit the distance. So my comments are based on the exceedingly useless, small population of Naija women here. It is said to me that rather than settle for a Nigerian woman here, SA men would rather go white or colored or anything else. It is an indictement worthy of being analysis. WHY? Odunnu even with your very detailed answer, the question remains: Why Do Nigerian Man Prefer S. A Women Over Nigerian Women? My quess is God's prototype for men was a Nigerian and for women a South African. I am so proudly SA and absolutely loving my Nigerian. My taste would not allow me any less, it's a pity the same can clearly not be said about the women. In fact, have you even seen the children the two countries make. Chai, I could go on and on. Imagine the Nigerian being the structure and the SA gene being the decoration. It's beautiful. Sagamite, I am a first born with 4 brothers so no sisters i'm sorry. It probably explains why I'm so driven though. |
I have not read everyone's opinion but plz hear the lips of an SA woman: It is a combination of things that makes us special. Physically: SA women are beautiful and even the thin ones (round in all the tight places), which I imagine pleases most men because there is a definite difference between being male and female when assessing rear assets. Intellectually :I speak for myself - I am happy to play in a man's world as long as I'm allowed to be a woman. So yes, when we started out (7 years ago) we were both struggling but now we both bring in great incomes home, most times me than him because my business has grown (thank God, and this I did not have when I met him by the way_ he encouraged me and motivated me to do what I love). He is a workaholic and I'm ambitious so the combination worked. I have a very successful business and now and I believe him being in my life is part of why I got that blessing. Emotionally: I think SA woman let men be men and get on with the business of being a woman. My man makes me feel like the most fragile of things in the way he cares for and treats me (yet he knows I am incredibly strong and more than able to stand on my own). He tells me he loves me and shows it any number of times in a day. Kisses and hugs are everyday happenings. He knows after a hard day we need to let loose. 6 years into our marriage i still find him HOT and he knows it. and he allows me to be a woman, I'm the mother of his children, the wife in his home and the "ho" in his bed. We have our bad moments but he would never consider throwing in the towel because he thinks I'm worth it at my best. Now, I know that since he got to SA he only dated SA girls and had no desire to marry from back home, he told me the reasons which I won't mention here because I don't wanna offend. But the brief experience I've had with Naija women has been an eye opener and I can understand his thinking. Lacking ambition, depending on the man to fork out the money, saying yes because you don't have an alternative and plotting against the very person who brings the bread home does not a humble woman make. Just to give u a little example: I have seen a naija woman stepping out of church to have a physical fight with a naija man about money, right there and we were all members of the same church. She had to be physically restrained my men. Now my sisters and I may be many things but we do not mistake our femininity for manliness. the only difference I think there is: Again that SA women allow men to be men and get on with the business of being a woman. That's how God intended. |
MPRAISE, if there were perfect men, I would agree with everything you've said. But Omega is right. you attract what you want. you keep getting that kinda woman because you expose yourself to that. you become what you spend you time on. Spend it productively and you will atrractive productive people. The types of women who seem to flood you guys lives seem to be a reflection of what you spend you most precious commodity (time) in. For every useless woman there are 10 useless men, otherwise she would not exist or thrive. The leadership that men are supposed to provide is sorely lacking, This is because men only want selective leadership, only when it's convenient for you do you to take up the role. And by the way, giving instructions is not leadership, that is management, leaders lead by example, are happy to take responsibility and are not too proud to be humble. You need to know how to serve to lead. I know some of you guys will feel tempted to respond with negative comments but before you do consider this, "Does you comment reflect the manager or the leader in you?". Rome was not built in a day, let men take their rightful place and who knows, 2 ,3 or 4 generations from now, your descendents may look at woman differently. Let's stop perpetuating negativity about the person that bore you. As much as you may be all up in there, being self righteous, no man ever gave birth to a man. Ask yourself, would i be happy if another man spoke about my mother or sister the way i talk about the mother of the next generation and the most likely answer is that, that is exactly what happned or is happening. Like it or not, these women are the vessels of your lineage. They don't have to change for you to treat them well, you treat them well so that they will change. Permanently! That is the kind of leadership Africa needs to move out of the darkness. |
My peeps, it was good chatting to you as usual. I have to say goodnight and may you dream of angels. |
Platinumnk I was responding to Whitelexi (addressed him) and I think my last sentence sums up my opinion of them. That should not be too difficult to understand. |
nana, That's Mrs. to you, |
Whitelexi You clearly have not travelled out of your country yet. Do so before you chat about looks my friend. I personally find the men much better looking than most of the woman and for the most part better behaved. Your women are arrogant, they think they are men and are gold diggers of the highest level. I have seen how they manupulate their men here in South Africa when the poor fool is putting his life at risk to put food on their tummies and clothes on their back. They feel no qualms about keeping money secret from the very person who supports them (is that not theft?) Let's not even start on the levels of gossip and lack of ambition. Parasites, that's what the majority is and i pity you. |
Nethacker: ![]() Do you mean she is a "snob" instead of "snub". A person is called a snob meaning: One who tends to patronize, rebuff, or ignore people regarded as social inferiors and imitate, admire, or seek association with people regarded as social superiors. One who affects an offensive air of self-satisfied superiority in matters of taste or intellect. Snob is the noun: The part of speech (or word class) that is used to name a person, place, thing, quality, or action. and they snub people: that is a verb, an action word. A person cannot be an action (e.g run, snub, etc). |

Good luck
