Follow your tutorial at hand and eventually you will be taught how to code a page. If you are in a hurry, try out w3schools.com (or google for the right url). good luck! |
@Taiw, Not code-wise. You already have the site built. Next step would be to make sure the code is "cut" up to conform to the requirements of the particular CMS. You will definitely need a tutorial for this. |
It'll be interesting to see how many people respond to this ![]() |

^^^ Every now and then, when I don't get dizzy from the layout, I will pick and choose from what tickles my fancy. I have come to learn that it isn't the quantity of posts made but the quality. |
@Taiw Looks like you will need a CMS for this... |
Looks good all in all. 1) "Stay on the know" should be "stay in the know" 2) The "about us dropdown only looks good on the home page and not on other pages (has white font, which is unreadable) 3) Would be nice to have a listing of member schools 4) Would be nice if photo gallery used a javascript library like lightbox instead of popup 5) I noticed all the pages have "html" extension. If not using a CMS, I imagine updating will be a pain as you probably are not taking advantage of server side includes |
^^^ don't be. Just follow my lines and you should be good to go. Remember, wine gets better with age ![]() |
@winexviv 1) Good but how do you know that he didn't include the styles inline because adding a link to a css file would not allow you to see the codes? ![]() 2) The English is good but why not follow it up with a coding sample of your own? I am sure you know that when you copy and paste here, it will all show up on a straight line unless you use the "code" element blocks @53curl Thanks. Don't get me wrong, as I have grown older, I have become less tolerant of crap but all in all, when the person shows a genuine interest in learning, I remember how I was when I first started and how people used to talk down to me ![]() |
Where's my cut? ![]() |
wow! 2020....8 years from now. Will the world even be around by then? Interesting ![]() |
You'll have to experiment with that. Try 1em, 2em...nem or 100%, 150%...n% and see which works for you. Your aim here is to get it looking the way you want such that if I am on a mobile device, which has less real estate, the fonts scale accordingly. @winexviv Since the approach is poor, how about you reply back with how to make it better? |
I have uploaded this and tested it out and not found anything to "scatter" on my samsung galaxy note. Perhaps you will need to show us a screenshot of what you are seeing on your mobile device. Before you show us anything though, change the units of measurement of your fonts to either EM or %. While you're at it, there are 2 sections in the left column that are "bouncing" up and down. Remove this animation from the site - it is very distracting. |
I could have sworn I have seen this post some place else and I responded on that thread too ![]() |
^^^ Hmm, I have been working with IE7 and IE8 on a corporate level for a long time and can definitely state that HTML5 and CSS3 don't work consistently there. Also, we can't just jump to IE9 because web stats show that a majority of folks are on IE7 and IE8. In fact ,we even have to add the IE7 emulate tag to our pages so that pages render as IE7 pages, as IE7 is more consistent. Even the IE9 sef, it doesn't support the above fully. Hopefully, should MSFT go ahead with forcing people to upgrade and MSFT can get its act together, then we can expect consistently across the board. For now, it seems MSFT is benefiting from the browser wars, IMHO. |
well, what we code and a text editor go hand in hand from day 1. I have used dreamweaver but not as a pro. I just use it to edit/create my files (basically I stay in text editor mode). I would say, learn what I have taught you in text editor mode first then learn the intrigues of dreamweaver next. Why? Because one day you might find yourself without dreamweaver. What would you do then? |
Before starting your noble gesture, you might want to caution in advance that many of HTML5 and CSS3 features aren't supported by IE (even IE9 that is promising to do so has been found wanting in some areas). As a result, either code with these using "progressive enhancement" and "graceful degradation" in mind OR code with these only if you are purposely restricting yourself to a specific set of browsers/devices. I await the discussions... |
Yeah I would definitely switch hosts. Where that isn't possible, update as they've requested. At the end of the day, it's for your own good anyway. Good luck! |
^^^ Read my responses on December 19 |
How can we write code for something we haven't seen? I think u shd first send us ur url and we go from there, no? |
They said the site is compromised, as in it might be hacked or they are using your mail server to send spam, or it could be something else. Press them more for details or threaten to close your account, or follow up legally if need be. |
^^^ I doubt it scrapes. When it gives you search results, you click the link to go to the particular site. This differs from scraping where a site presents another site's content as if it were theirs. |
There should be plenty of tutorials on youtube. I have found the weirdest videos on there so finding videos on coding shouldn't be a problem |
^^Okay, in that case, just create it the same way you would create any other site, but with 1 or 2 pages. For some reason, I am thinking this is yet another pre-xmas trick question ![]() |
OP: I would make learning the above, step 4. Also note that even if it takes you a week to learn each of the steps, you still need months/years of experience to get to be a "professional"...and once you get there, it never ends - you will need to continuously stay up to date on the latest technologies otherwise you will become obsolete before you know it. Good luck, and do report back on your progress! |
Fortified? Oya oga slyr0x, check am out and let us know how fortified it truly is ![]() |
^^^ It was stated that section should not be seen as a substitute for the div tag and that the div tag should still be used.1) Hmm, where in my original response did I say this? Obviously, both have their uses and places to use. Both are also not to be substituted for the other. Look at what I wrote again. Maybe I wasn't clear. I will try again. Sorry about that: A DIV divides a page into sections, though it isn't a SECTION tag. In other words, just like TABLE tags were used for layout, until DIV came along, so has DIV been used to cut up a page into sections, until SECTION came along. Can a DIV be used to do what a SECTION tag can do? Sure! But does that mean you should use it? No! 2) Why do I have to check out multicolumns? I already know what it is for and love that it can be done, albeit on certain browsers for now. 3) With so many smart people out there, I don't need to waste my time reading the specs. I just need to find a good book written by one of the smart ones and I am good to go ![]() |
Still not enough details for me to say either way. Lay out specific details then I can even think of a price. |
^^^ Na d goat I dey try organize since. I still dey price am. Once I don cook am, I go halla ![]() |
Use either percentages for your width (fluid design) or conditional media queries (responsive design). All the same, if your code is semantic, your site should display consistently across the board as many mobile devices can optimize regular sites. What exactly do you mean by "scattered"? Is there a URL we can look at? |
Also: 1) Look at your keyword tag (no more than 48 words), description tag (no more than 24 words) and title tag (no more than 12 words) per page 2) Make sure the content per page has at least 400 words, taking into account the keyword density mentioned earlier, which I assume is correct 3) Make sure your images have ALT and TITLE tags that aren't empty. Also ensure your images have readable names ("my-summer-vacation.jpg" is better than "abc.jpg" ![]() 4) Use dashes to separate words in your image and page names and not underscores 5) Don't go for cheap daily budgets (like 20 bucks a day). Depending on your keywords, that could only mean 4 impressions per day for example. I would say at least 100 bucks a day |
Step 1: XHTML, CSS, Javascript. Step 2: A back end language like PHP, JSP, etc Step 3: SQL, MySQL, SQLServer, etc Software: NotePad, NotePad++, Dreamweaver, Eclipse Others, feel free to chime in. |
