Thanks once again pie1ct. I looked at the 3 zencart sites and they are very neat! Good job on all 3.
WebmastersRe: How Can Some One Build E-currency Exchange Site? by yawatide(f): 11:26am On Dec 10, 2009
The same way you would build any other site - proper planning, paying attention to the details with respect to what the site is about and how to develop it such that the visitors keep on coming (by making it appealing to the user).

1) Your code looks okay to a point (more on that later). What kind of problems are you getting?

2) I see in your code where you are storing variables in sessions if error count equals zero. What happens though when it is greater than zero? Something to think about.

3) I see the site you are using is joomla-based. why bother doing all the validation from scratch when you can take advantage of the community builder plug in that enables you to customize everything from fields you want to display, to whether or not they are required, etc?

Site looks neat! I will add it to my list. Now I have 3 to pick one from: osCommerce, OpenCart and PrestaCart.

Thanks

What was the disturbing news about zencart? Also, could you drop the urls for shopp and instinct (googling shows this is a wordpress plug in. If yes, don't bother as I won't be using a cms)? Use the english form to avoid the spam bot wink

Thanks
WebmastersRe: Which Open Source Shopping Cart Would You Choose? by yawatide(op): 8:42pm On Dec 09, 2009
If it doesnt come with Paypal, then its not worthy of the name "Cart".
This has got to go down as the quote of the year for this board tongue

Currently, I have narrowed down my choices to opencart (the new version seems to have taken care of the issues that made me want to dump it) and prestacart but I don't mind taking another look at zenCart based on your recommendation.

I tried integrating virtuemart into a joomla site I did some time ago and am happy that the clients ended up saying they didn't need a shopping cart on their site as it wasn't the easiest thing for me to configure.

Thanks for your tips. If others have any, since this particular project might not happen for another 2 weeks, I am still open to suggestions smiley
WebmastersWhich Open Source Shopping Cart Would You Choose? by yawatide(op): 4:17pm On Dec 09, 2009
I might be implementing an ecommerce site soon and have been doing some research as to which open source app to use. I have used openCart in the past but the effort to customize is a bit much so I have always left it with it's default layout. I have also made it a separate app and am looking to integrate it seamlessly into the site in question. So as I said, I have been researching other options.

My criteria:
Must be free, I don't care about copyright info showing on the site, Easy to install, easy to customize, easy to configure, easy to use back end, must come with plug ins for paypal at the very least or if not paypal, must support all major US credit cards.

Baed on the above, I have come up with the following:
osCommerce
OpenCart
ZenCart
PrestaCart
CubeCart
AgoraCart

So my fellow comrades, which would you prefer/which have you used and why? Please include positives and negatives

Thanks,

Interesting. dhtml, what's up now? Too busy to help someone out? cool

sorry about that internetpro. Unfortunately, I haven't written code for what you need and so have no idea where to start.

Hopefully, someone can get back to you soonest. In the meantime, is it possible to see your code? It might help us figure out what you may be missing.

good luck!

If yes, sorry for the question.

Well, there is more than 1 way to skin a cat. Your solution works too. Of course, the argument now, given the original post, becomes which method is more efficient. that, I will leave for the pros to answer cool

Dual: u funny o tongue

HC:
Yep, even if it means borrowing from someone, pay in full. Just tell him that you are refunding in full, including domain registration and hosting so he is aware that you are losing money by so doing.

Again he will b amazed that a Nigerian would do such a thing and I bet you, he will have big time respect for you and might even seek to continue the relationship (in which case, you immediately come up with a terms and conditions document wink)

good luck!
WebmastersRe: How Can I Fire A Client? by yawatide(f): 4:58pm On Dec 08, 2009
Pretty simple, IMHO.  Did you get paid a deposit? If yes, give it back then write him/her thus (I also assume that in one way or the other, you have lodged a (professional) complaint with him/her):

Dear Sir/Madam,

It has been a pleasure and an honor working with you over the past 2 months.

Unfortunately, I am afraid our business relationship can not proceed beyond where it is now.  It seems we can not reach an agreement as to the direction your website should go.  As a sign of good faith, I am also refunding the deposit that you paid me.

Once again, it has been a pleasure and an honor working for you.  Should you need any referrals with respect to another web developer, I will be glad to provide them to you.  I also hope that this issue doesn't mar any possibilities of us working in the nearest future.

Sincerely,

(your name here)

After receiving this letter, I can bet you your next pay check that the person will be standing with their mouth agape, assuming a deposit was made and you have refunded it in full cool

Lesson:
1) Sign a terms and agreement
2) Be professional, irrespective of client's attitude.  Remember, they pay your bills and you never how who he/she will go bad-mouthing you to.

good luck!
WebmastersRe: Flash Sites by yawatide(f): 1:01pm On Dec 08, 2009
it depends on how "reallyyyyyyy cool" you want it to be.

Why not drop details here of what you want to help the potential developers help you better.

good luck!

by the way, I entered a "d" in each field. In other words, you are not validating either on the front or the back ends cool
WebmastersRe: Guys, Lagbaja's site is the bomb by yawatide(f): 7:21pm On Dec 07, 2009
mid-2009 but the footer still says "2005-2008"? tongue

I guess a better question to ask here is, what portions of the site were updated. Changing "one" to "three" IMHO doesn't exactly qualify as an update though I would call it a change, a slight one at that wink
WebmastersRe: Can Someone In The House Give Me The Html Code For Mailto, Or Tell Me How To : by yawatide(f): 7:18pm On Dec 07, 2009
1) I think you need more than html to accomplish this
2) Yes, let's see the code. IMHO, working with what you have will help you understand better for next time. It isn't always good to do straight copy and paste without understanding.

We await.
WebmastersRe: Guys, Lagbaja's site is the bomb by yawatide(f): 5:28pm On Dec 07, 2009
If previous posts are anything to go by, the site most likely hasn't been updated since 2005. It was probably da bomb back then but in 2009, it no longer passes muster.

I think one good question to ask is if the site has even been updated post launch. The answer to that will help determine, IMHO, if the site will ever be touched again tongue

zahymaka: welcome back grin

propro, referencing your post #5:
If you check your dictionary, you will see that a blanket statement means, pretty much, a statement that includes a whole group, often without regard for the differences within that group. I don't want to get flagged, otherwise, I would post a link.

I think you need to read my post again. Also, you are the one making the blanket statements so it is you, not me, who needs to come up with the responses from others. Again, show us where the posters are in violation of your first post.

pie1ct, dhtml et al understand what I am saying. I know from their responses. There is no need putting up defence mechanisms. If you come here with a joomla site, and I speak for myself, take the time to make it unique. A site review is more than the interface. It also involves, and again I speak for myself, funcitonality. Again, you didn't code the login module so there is no way for me to see how good you are with respect to preventing sql injections or form validation. You didn't code the search so why should I review that. In the end I am left with reviewing layout and again, if you have noted how I do reviews, it involves both layout and functionality. Quite frankly, IMHO, you are doing both the forumites and the joomla coders a disservice by not announcing up front that the site is a CMS site.

In conclusion, a CMS site is not akin to having leprosy. There is nothing wrong with developing a site with one. Just know when to use it and how to use it, that's all.

proproman:
I've noticed that people seem to look down on sites done with joomla and joomla users.
1) You are making a blanket statement. I hereby challenge you to produce a post to support your argument. Remember, by saying what you've said and by me challenging you, your credibility is at stake.

2) Here is what I have said though:
I don't review CMS sites (neither do I review forum sites) because they aren't original (by the way, I have done a couple of Joomla sites myself but heck! I wouldn't even review my own joomla site and for while, didn't even list it on my portfolio page). This doesn't mean I am looking down on them. It simply means that even if you customized it, it is not original (did you code the form validations? Did you code the login module? etc).

It is one thing to review a customized site but when the use of joomla is blatant (login module present, url has "com=", form already validates, etc), whose code/site am I reviewing? Yours or that of the joomla developers?

3) If you search this board, you will see a post I wrote some time ago about joomla sites that are so good that you can't even tell they are joomla sites. I even asked others to post links to such sites and there were quite a few.

I hope you understand where at least I am coming from. Speaking for myself, my comments are not meant to put anyone down but to explain myself as I have above. Sorry if it came out differently.
