he he, Afam. True talk. I once purposely voted against someone in an election because their website was so crappy. Dual: I am a member of another forum (email-based). One member (owner of tools pushers), forgetting that he did a "reply all", writes to another reminding him that they still await his quotation so that they will know what to supply. Being the busy body that i am, i noticed the url to his website, in part because it was bolded and said to myself, "hmm, this might be an opportunity to make some dough". Why? Because my gut told me the site would suck. However, I didn't expect it to be that bad. I don't use IE so I assume it might look a bit better. If you check it out in FF and are squeamish, just grab a puke bag while you're at it as you will feel like doing one thing - puke. May 2010 bring about only the cream in our business o - Amen! |
Dual: So are you saying a Nigerian University is better? |
I am thinking it is. www.toolspushers.com - what do you guys think? The footer says the company is in port harcourt. Dual/any other Port harcourt residents - any way you can get them to do a redesign? ![]() By the way, whois pulls up an Ibadan address. Perhaps someone needs to be visited and perhaps needs a glass or two of conquer mixture ![]() |
donpozu: Thanks. As you may ascertained by now, I can get over-zealously blunt and honest but I do take the time to give credit to where/whom it is due. ogzille: 1) To you, the form values aren't meant to be preserved across pages but to me and others who noticed same, can you speak for us? Think about it for a sec. Remember, you are coding the site for me and others, not you. 2) If you are referring to the inquiry form, in general, the "reset" button is becoming archaic because quite frankly, not many will fill out an entire form, only to reset all fields. One or 2 fields maybe but not the entire form so, leave it as it is. 3) I just discovered another quirk if you will - Looking at the inquiry form again (sorry ), what you see at first is an "x" and the green portion with the text. It was a little to tempting for me to click the "x" thinking that it will bring up the form (yes, I know "x" usually stands for close but hey, some people like me are slow in learning). So of course I click the "x" and the form goes down a bit further then I click again before the entire form pulls up.It seems counter-intuitive. Maybe the maximize button should be either added alongside the close or it should replace the close in that particular instance. Sorry if I am a bit nit picky but there is a book I read long time ago that makes a ton of sense, "Don't make me think" but (last name) Krug. Maybe you should check it out. The less time I have to think about how your site works, the better and the less frustrated I am as a result of thinking too much ![]() |
he he, first it's rupert murdoch with bing and now it is twitter with google and microsoft. I predict another bubble on the horizon and foresee many a nigerian copycat wanting to do same ![]() |
agboifo: The phrase, "money dumping", could be interpreted in more than one way ![]() |
![]() |
No? Then I suggest you dump all you know and learn the basics of html and css, at the very least. If all you need do, if I understand the original post right, is type on the image, why not do that in fireworks? All this slicing of images, based on my experience with Adobe Image Ready, back in the stone ages of web development, I don't think you will be doing yourself a great service by going the image slicing route. good luck! |
you know stuff like . . . admin yawa don f up, ban amPerhaps someone had a bit too much christmas rice, stew and sheeken ![]() |
Yep, very clean and crisp. The only "issue" I have is with the enquiry form - find a way to modify the script so that even if I close it, it still saves the values I entered before. I think it would be VERY useful. Take for instance a case where I fill everything out (probably after passing the validation scripts), then I mistakenly minimize it and further still, I didn't see the "minimizing will result in loss of data (or whatever it says)". Or, let's assume I did see it. Let's also assume in this case that I clicked on another page. I think, IMHO, it would be very frustrating to have to fill in the fields again. Other than that, I hope and pray you do the same due diligence to your clients' sites. good job! |
I want to contact you. how do I do that? |
While that's a fair tutorial, it doesn't prevent questions from coming in.My response (focus on the bolded words please ):https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-193865.0.html |
Go chop your christmas sheeken man. Get a life on xmas day, for crying out loud ![]() |
he he, as Afam has partially eluded to, a site isn't all about slapping up code and calling yourself a "guru". Among others, a solid site has to be tested *frequently*, not only for bugs but for csrf and xss, data needs to be backed up *frequently*, load testing needs to be done prior to anything new coming out and for something that serious, a dedicated server is the norm, not the exception. Sha, we are all human. Let's give them a second chance. Hopefully they get it right the next time around, learn from it and return to normal. |
If I get another spam from you on this board, you will be banned. If you need to advertise your business, do so under an appropriately named thread, not by creating an off topic post on others. I have deleted 30+ of such spam (and counting). Thanks in advance for complying with nairaland's "no spam" policy and season's greetings to you and yours ![]() |
hmmm, quite a few afams on the forum lately ![]() |
Please abide by copyright laws.wetin b dis? your own version of legal protection against yourself? ![]() |
Pretty interesting. It would be nice to hear what others have to say: www dot aeroflot dot ru forward slash templates forward slash index_en forward slash |
Alex: this is the wrong place for your question. Do a search on nairaland for your issue if this link doesn't do it for you: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-369140.0.html good luck! p.s.: per OP's last post here, I am locking this thread. Thanks |
I don't use DW either so I have no idea. 'was just going off of comments I have seen on here ![]() Regardless, I am sure there are open source solutions that could let you do pretty much anything these days. Like the iPhone adverts usually say, "yep, there's an app for that" ![]() |
I believe you can do pretty much the same with DW, homesite and the like. so, whenever you are on windows, try those out ![]() |
1) I don't think all this "ng" this, "naija" that makes sense for such a url. Just spell it outright, "nigeria" - it is easier to remember, you don't have to waste time spelling it out to someone and from the url, even google's bots will know what it is about right off the bat. "webconference" isn't too long, IMHO, to tack on "nigeria" at the end. 2) I visited webtrends and couldn't find it. I don't think I found a search textbox either (if it's there, I missed it. If it isn't there, hint: since you already have plastered the site with google ads, how about adding a search module as well? you still get ad revenue if people click on the ads on the search results page ). Please paste a direct url here OR if you are concerned about the bot, paste directions on how to get to that page (home -> events -> joomla, or however it is I would get there) |
hmmm sayhi: I guess you haven't had to install a forum, cms, php framework, etc on your domain. Uploading a zip file/unzipping the zip file is usually how you get that done ![]() |
same to you buddy. Maybe we should take a quick vote - how many of us will actually take the whole week off (as in no email, no nairaland, no coding, etc)? I'll take the first shot - I won't ![]() May 2010 bring to us all the prosperity that we all deserve - Amen! |
It isn't if you don't have the right business model ![]() |
dual: na highest bidder. right now, bid don reach N5m. Go ahead, pick a number ![]() |
and if you have them in an "includes" folder, you would link to them like so: inc/filename.inc Note: 1) At least based on my experience, you can't use absolute pathing for includes. So if you are in secondary folder, it would be , /inc/filname.inc 2) For security reasons, you should name your includes with php (assuming that is what you are using) extensions. Why? cos if not and say, you are making database calls in that file, guess what? since .inc files can be opened by a browser, one could see your username, password, etc. By putting them in a php file, all that is hidden from the browser. Trust me, I had someone run a crazy search script on google and you won't believe the sites that are falling victim to what I just described. In fact, if i were up to it, I would make money from that alone ![]() good luck! |
PS: Joomla Day Nigeria was successful .This is good to hear. Perhaps you could share the positives and the negatives with the organizers of the web conference so they know what to do and not do. Any website with photos that we could see on the joomla stuff? I am sure inquisitive minds would love to know ![]() |
hmm, had to stare at the url like 10 times before the chinese part of my brain finally kicked in ![]() I don't recall what the site looked like before but I like what I see now, within the context of endless scrolling. A couple issues though: 1) Click "register (in FF)", enter a bad email address and click "next". Note the bleed through on the page that follows 2) I would probably swap the tag cloud with the categories as I don't think tag clouds are more relevant that your categories. If you went my route, you could further reduce scroll by changing the tag cloud area from a square to a rectangle that spans with width of the lower cell, thus again further reducing the scrolling of the page. Make sense? good luck! |
hmm, I don't think you can convert and entire folder to a file format. Try this and let us know if it works: 1) Open windows explorer and navigate to the folder in question. 2) Locate the file you want to change 3) Highlight the file and hit F2 4) scroll to the end of the file name and enter ".jpg" - you should get a warning about changing file extensions at this point. Just accept it 5) Open a browser, navigate to that file and make sure that you can actually open the jpg file 6) if #5 passes, go ahead and email the file as an attachment. good luck! |
