he he. Linda is a pretty popular naija blogger, like bella naija. I thought she was widely known. Oh well. Per your proposal, so you're pretty much proposing cos of the celeb factor and not developer factor? ![]() |
Dual: u r also forgetting those who are nairaland and linda ikeji wannabees ![]() |
You transfer the files from your computer to your web host. this you can do by either using the cPanel of your hosting program (under "file manager") and manually browse to your files and upload to your web host (as you would if you were attaching a document in email) or you use an FTP program to do so (advantage here is that you can transfer files in bulk, unlike manual upload via cPanel). good luck! |
google for "ad words" and from there, send an email to them asking them how to place ads with them from your locale. good luck! |
Google for "google analytics" - it's free and even helps indexing your site quicker. good luck |
To add on to what I said earlier, I think it also has to do with your employment situation - if you work for someone, chances are that either between labor laws or wanting to take advantage of being "used", you will want to take whatever vacation days come to you. On the other hand, if you work for yourself (or combine this with working for someone), chances are that you will say to yourself that you could use the extra time to catch up on your business. In other words, self-employed people, knowing they have more to lose if they "waste" their free time, are more likely to not take vacation. Having said that (and I am a hypocrite on this so don't listen to me ), we do need some time off. We are at the end of the day, machines with the exception that if a machine breaks down, it usually can be fixed and used again. When we as humans break down, chances are that we can no longer function at even half the pace (and we all know what happens when we can't work), that is, assuming we aren't buried 6 feet deep. As one adage I read some years ago says: No one ever becomes rich (naija factor aside ) by working 40 hours a day. |
a true developer is always on "working vacation" ![]() |
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-193865.0.html Maybe you can start with the above - all 7 pages of 'em ![]() |
tech pros: much better ![]() In fact, anytime i see a post that has words to the effect that, "google/facebook was like that" or "yes,my site is bad but look at google/facebook,they are billionaires", I say to myself, "here we go again". I think it is high time we finally put one of our very own proverbs to good use - the fingers are all not the same length. Therefore, rather aspire for what, deep down, we know we shall never be (billionaires), we should strive for the best that we can be and leave the rest for God ![]() |
For those who may not have noticed, google ads are back - the ban has been lifted. hip hop hurraaaaay, hooooo, haayyyy, hooo ![]() |
If you are not a bot, welcome to the board. It can be a fun place to be ![]() |
I had to go searching for the original post so as to see whether or not I should eat my boots before posting a response: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-331671.0.html - it would be nice to know if a fellow nairalander (be it solo or in collabaration with someone else or a company) got the deal. Having read all the posts: 1) Site looks better than it did before. Of course it is still suffering from the Nigeria-specific animation mania but in a way, I can overlook that, to a point 2) I like the fact that the background image is randomly displayed 3) The site seems to use ajax to display content. I wonder if they tested the site on cell phones (after all, glo is a cell phone company, right?). I pulled up the site on my blackberry and got a blank page. Just to be sure, I pulled up cnn's website and it came up within seconds. 4) I played the part of a typical visitor and pretended I wanted to contact them. i was expecting the standard "contact us" verbiage on the site but couldn't find it (forgive me but I have a slow brain). I finally found an envelope image and decided to click that to see if that was it (it had no alt or title tag). Clicking it brought up a very cool lightbox-type form. It seems to validate but when it highlights an error, there is no label to tell you what you need to fill out). 5) The glo ambassadors page could have been done differently. I didn't notice the other thumbnails at the bottom. 6) Maybe I missed it but again, being a cell phone company, I was expecting to find a place where I could register on the site and more importantly, where I could pay my bills/add to my available credit. I will stop here to avoid getting flagged by the bot. Overall though, the site is way better than it was prior to the redesign and like the OP, I hope and pray that their competition is looking to at least be on par with them. The site could use some improvements, especially with respect to #3 and #4 though but hey, which site is 100% perfect. |
delete it - I could use the server space ![]() |
It's all about how you present yourself, the confidence that you portray and the perception (which is reality) that your clients have of you. This in turn, IMHO, is reflected in your work. |
GOD will be everybody in the house ![]() |
check niit doing 5 days course on excel, internet word, poerpoint, paint for #10001) niit can afford to charge cheaply because of economies of scale - they deal with large numbers of students 2) teaching excel, word, etc is not the same as teaching, say, php. Pretty much anyone can learn how to click "save as" in word without being taught but not everyone can print "hello world" in a particular language, on the first day. |
it would be fresh if nairaland starts that stuff you know.it would be more relevant and less annoying than adsenseGranted he may not make as much money, if I were Seun, I would be saying, "hmmm, nice idea" and rubbing one of the clefts on my chin at the same time ![]() |
212: I was joking too, though I am looking out for you, with respect to you developing a solid site ![]() its only direct bank deposit thats currently availableIf this is the case, disable all other options. No need deceiving the public and/or making them frustrated (and consequently, you could lose them in the process) for nothing. |
1) As stated in my original post, I won't be able to attend 2) The OP YIMd me the other day to say he has been banned. Upon his return, he will post more details 3) Since you have volunteered to put up a site, I think if you do that and post the url, more people will be inclined to opine. My opinion. |
Well, personally, if I stumbled upon this via google, I probably wouldn't attend. Sure there is content but is it easy to find? Yes, chances are that the top guns don't even know of the existence of the site but alas, maybe the site wasn't made for them in mind but others looking for stuff like this and who have hard currency to invest? Who knows? |
so yawa, wat you doing tonite? WinkLiterally, reviewing your website ![]() Can you imagine? You want to go out with me but lack the balls to create an actual form on your "contact us" page. What are you afraid of? that your front end and back end validation won't work? ![]() |
1) create a column in your database table of format "date" 2) in your php code, create a date object (I store mine as date("y-m-d" or whatever it is. I don't memorize these things )3) add the date object to your insert script 4) verify entry in your database. good luck! |
So, I woke up to an article in one of the online dailies to the effect that there is a summit going on. Naturally, I google for a website and find one - nigeria dot economic dot summit dot com. What do you think of it? Do you think it reflects the importance and purpose of the summit? Click around, note the layout, design, etc. What are your views? What could you have done differently? Don't just look at the home page and say, "It is okay". Don't just jump to conclusion and say, "d guy try now". As always, I will reserve my comments till I hear from a few. |
adsenseboy: why are you quadruple-posting? ![]() |

www dot vanguardngr dot com - search for "Vanguard SMS-to-Web Classifieds (It's on the home page. You can't miss it)" |
POINT OF CORRECTION: I don't "bounce" topics. The bot does. Guess what? I have had many of my posts bounced too. ![]() For flagged posts (not topics), as moderator, I get to see such posts. If they pass my test, I send an email to Seun to "unspam" it. At that point, it is up to him to actually do so (I have a few posts that he is yet to "unspam" and guess what? I am not angry ).Please, Don't get it twisted. If you don't know something, ask. Don't make assumptions ![]() |
I would assume you would be with the person when the google ads are purchased and that you would pay the person with COLD CASH (how the person pays for it after that is that person's cup of tea)? ![]() |
I would post a url but don't want to get flagged for spam ![]() Granted I don't like the placement, it is a huge gray area on their home page. Obviously, if you text in late, you will be on the last page. the cool thing is that it is like google ads - when you click the next page, the next set of ads show in place - no refreshing. Regardless, considering what the typical online paper charges for ads, I would take N50 for an ad for 24 hours on pretty much anywhere on their site. This is what punch should have done, instead of charging for news ![]() |
Many of you may have probably seen this already but I saw this today and have been elated ever since: SMS-to-web classifieds. Simply text your ad to a certain number and it shows up on their site (I assume automatically). It costs N50 per ad and runs for 24 hours. How cool is that? This is the type of innovation I am talking about. Not to be cloning facebook and saying stuff like, "this is how zuckerberg started" or "google did it too and they are worth a billion dollars" . Let's be original people ![]() |
