cos I am not the type ![]() my point: If you guys want to do lovey dovey (or lack thereof), take it offline ![]() maven: I hear you. I haven't actually used CI and just when I wanted to, a friend said to dump it in favor of Kohana. Na wa o. Learning shall never end. I have so many books, literally, both physical and electronic, that I am yet to see the cover of not to talk of read. |
na wa o! See as post on search engine, on a friday night wen bobos suppose dey club, dey turn into something else ![]() |
I just googled (sorry I can't post links lest I anger the bot gods ), "wml php database" and found tons of results.good luck! |
Point of correction: None of the threads are targetted at "gurus" or "webmasters" (whatever those mean) but everybody. You have to crawl before you walk. Don't let anyone or any post intimidate. If e too do, do open eye. That's all there is to it ![]() Seriously though, I believe there are many posts "for beginners" on this board. Just do a search for them. Where all else fails, refer to www.w3schools.com good luck! |
Update: The mods have an emergency meeting to discuss this. It turns out google is complaining about "vulgar" words on nairaland. Of course, if you are like me, you immediately target the sexuality, love and romance boards and kill them off but it's not my site and I believe in democracy so we are discussing other ways to deal with the issue. I will keep you all posted. |
Before settling on joomla, i did some research. Based on my readings and playing with it, I strongly recommend it, based on the awards it has gotten and most especially if you have a client (as I had a few months ago) with no technical knowledge (joomla has a very low learning curve, as far as the backend and managing content is concerned). As to how to recognize a joomla site? I typically don't visit a site trying to pin down what was used but dead give-aways are the search module with that unique magnifying lens, existence of the login module, and if you are like me and always love viewing source to see how someone did something, a search for "joomla" or "/template" often does the trick too ![]() |
bade: Unfortunately, I am out of the country at the moment and won't be back till January. Maybe next time. Sorry. Do give us an update though. It would be appreciated. |
Typical Nigerian response. I guess you think that Nairaland is hosted on a $5 per month unlimited hosting plan. Angry Well the reality is that keeping a site like this online costs hundreds of dollars monthly; so how could you feel all is well when the only source of funding for the site appears to be embroiled with some issues?Typical Nigerian response too - why are you making assumptions? I have done my homework and know how much is paid per month and no, it isn't $5 per month. Any how, my question still stands. As I said, I don't see it shutting down permanently so my comments don't apply. |
your personal (company or otherwise) ads or your google ads? If the latter, then I need to roll with you cos you are on bucks ![]() |
I thought that was in politics. Hmm. ![]() |
Sure. you can email yawatide at yahoo dot com or yim yawatide. look forward to yarning with you soon ![]() |
no offense but wetin concern bird with toothbrush ![]() I just now noticed the lack of ads. Out of curiosity, unless the forum would be shut down permanently (and I don't see that happening) why would it be a cause for concern? I guess time will tell |
Well as they say, time will tell. Again, bear in mind that very few, if at all, can match the reputation of wall street journal. Again, time will tell. For the record, though I don't necessarily agree with the move, I can assure you, though I don't have the facts to back it up that, unlike Punch, ruppert has done some proper feasibility studies and may have even gone as far as making whoever will be hosting the news sign a contract of secrecy until the deal is sealed (or not). Regardless, make no mistake about it - others will be watching and ruppert might as well be setting a precedent, a bad one, but a precedent nonetheless. Again, time will tell. |
bade: I will leave your last post alone until the issue is resolved, which I think it is, pending your verification (post #19). PM has been disabled for regular members, to the best of my knowledge, for a while now. You can email me if you want at yawatide at yahoo dot com good luck with the conference! |
mambe: IMHO, what ruppert is doing actually makes sense, depending on how you look at it. Bear in mind that he doesn't want to "sell" the content of all his online news, just financial. Now, there are only few sources as good as Wall Street Journal, if at all, and so I am sure, though I could be wrong, that there are those who wouldn't mind paying a premium for that information. In other words, if he were trying to "sell" regular news, that wouldn't work. Coming to think of it, where all else fails, why doesn't Ruppert just replace his regular ads with google adsense ads? Worse case, he will make money from the ad impressions ![]() legba: The good thing about the net is that unlike regular software, you can update the web literally every second. I have been blessed to work with companies with very busy sites. These companies monitor site traffic like crazy. Even a 5% drop triggers red flags all over the place and meetings would have been held within 3 days of such a drop. Before you know it, a decision, no matter how long it took to implement or how expensive is yanked, just to get the traffic back to normal. Why? because a drop in traffic is a drop in ad revenue (advertisers always demand to see the logs for themselves). There was no excuse for what punch did. Worse case, they should have set up a beta site for it and done such risky (IMHO) experiments there. Heck, google is pretty much code proof yet every single thing they put out at first is deemed beta so who is punch? |
a new website that will offer much for Nigerians soon. So why not wait till it is absolutely complete before advertising? ![]() |
xanadu: As moderator I can see your solution and have forwarded your post to seun to "un spam" it. Sorry for any inconveniences. jeshurun: based on what he sent you via email, isn't it the same thing I said above? oh, I see, it is because unlike xanadu, I didn't write actual php right? Sometimes, you have to start with pseudocode, understand that, then proceed with actual code ![]() |
I guess it depends on what an mlm board is ![]() |
yeah bade, that's a little below the belt. The way you communicate can determine if the person you are addressing will move mountains for you or sit back and watch you choke to death ![]() Anyways, sorry for the inconvenience. I have forwarded your complaint to seun, the owner of the forum and hopefully, he will get back to us all soonest. |
I see 2 issues with your problem: 1) First problem could be solved if you viewed source, copied and pasted the source table, and pasted it here for us to see what you are getting. 2) Looking at your code, I don't see any "colspan" which will ensure that the table layout looks good, regardless of number of cells. 2a) First thing that needs to be done, IMHO, is to draw out the table first, as though you were doing just html: <table>2b) Then you can start devising logic to accomplish this aim 2c) You will need another variable, counting down (4, 2, etc), that will dynamically populate in the "colspan" Out of curiosity, why must the number of cells be raised by a power of 2? Seems like it is making the whole thing more complex than it should be. good luck! |
WasyKeene: Why would you ask me to take out the speck from my own eye (by saying no off topic) when you haveen't taken out the log from yours (by creating an off topic here, even though you already created a topic with this very question here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-360301.0.html)? Please refrain from pursuing this question any further on this thread and refer to the above thread for your answer(s). Thanks in advance for your co-operation. |
google for "jquery photo gallery" and I guarantee you, you will get tons of results. good luck! |
hhhhhhaaa, mygladness. You are bringing back sweet memories ![]() |
utaroz/pastor: 1) That is the problem with luck sometimes - we get so "lucky" that it clouds out common sense 2) How long did it take to realize the problem? In a serious web shop setting, that BAD business decision would have been reversed no more than 1 week from the time it was launched, if not the next day. |
To Whom It May Concern At Punch: Are you reading these posts? In particular, are you keeping track of the number of people who have said that they had since stopped visiting your site and like me, will probably never visit again, except on a few rare occasions? If this number indeed reflected the actual populace out there, I would say you guys are and will continue to lose some serious money. Pele o. |
Hmm, I think such site issues should be worked out before the site is advertised. Only God knows how many potential clients you have lost as a result. |
mambe: e get as this post dey do me, do me. you no go like the way dual go do you, do you. so be careful, make you no wound o, make you no wound o, my baby! ![]() |
1) Nav items, in FF, are "jumping" when you hover over them 2) Gallery page is causing horizontal scroll. It could use a javascript plugin though 3) contact form doesn't validate 4) extract page is inconsistent with the rest of the site - no left nav 5) Do people still click the "reset" button? I would take it out 6) Average visitor will have no mail access, so move "check mail" to the bottom of the page 7) FAQ page: The links don't work! 8 ) webmail link doesn't work 9) I could have made the page much lighter using DIVs and CSS |
YawaMy (sarcastic) point exactly ![]() |
No, my last post wasn't a yab. sorry if it came out that way. Hmm, seems like you may need to write one from the ground up (or have one do so for you) considering you said, "i have not been able to make them service my purpose" and chances are that you will not find any one CMS tool out there that will. good luck! |
why buy when there are tons, like joomla, exponent, drupal, etc for free? just curious. By the way, fannix online: I like the layout of the contact page: it should be nominated for a web award, for real! |
