The reproductive system of a 12-year-old girl, Faith Nwanja, who was allegedly tortured and mutilated by her mistress, Mrs Nkechi Bartholomew for being too stubborn has been seriously damaged.

The revelation was made, yesterday, by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, while briefing journalists on the development. Nwanja, was tortured, mutilated and abandoned by Bartholomew.

Bartholomew, a childless woman and seamstress adopted Nwanja and took her to Onitsha, Anambra State, when she was eight years and allegedly disfigured her.

The woman allegedly inserted sticks inside the girl’s private parts which have caused her serious damage to the reproductive system. Nwanja has shocking scars and injuries all over her body, including eyes, mouth, head.

She also has bloodied mouth and has lost one of her hands to torture. Briefing journalists yesterday, Head of Department, Child Development of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Godwin Igwe said the health condition of Faith has worsened.

“The child has been undergoing medical examination by team of expert gynaecologists, a team of orthopaedic doctors, a team of expert opmologists because of serious harm inflicted on her reproductive system, her hand, her ear, her teeth all over.

Last week, her medical examination was concluded and the hospital management said the report will be released to the police as soon as it is demanded”, he said. Igwe accused the state Police command of refusing to arraign the suspect.

Theresa May, Prime minister of the United Kingdom, has called for same-sex marriages in Nigeria and all other countries within the Commonwealth.

While speaking at the first joint forum at Commonwealth Head of Government Meetings in Westminster on Tuesday, the minister said there should be no laws criminalising same-sex relationships across the Commonwealth.

She said she understands that most of the laws against same-sex marriages in the Commonwealth were made by the UK, adding that those laws were wrong then, and are wrong now.

Mompha also added that he would be among the first owners of the luxurious vehicle when it is finally launched.

Recall that Mompha recently purchased a N150 million Rolls Royce Wraith 2018. He shared videos of himself paying N150 million in foreign currency for the luxury car in Dubai where he is based. He also showed receipt of the car as he threw shade at Hushpuppi.

Mompha says this is his own Rolls Royce unlike some broke ass who rent the luxury cars.

A 200 level Food Science Technology student of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, identified as "Deborah ifejuwura olajide" has been killed by a hit and run driver.

Olajide, who was said to be on her home from vigil was knocked down by the vehicle in the early hours of Thursday, while her lifeless body was discovered by her colleagues.

According to a source, the driver of the vehicle who was on top speed rammed into the speed breaker mounted along FUTA junction and in the process tried to avoid other speed breakers and knocked down the girl who was walking home.

General Overseer of Christian Central Chapel International, Bishop Emma Gospel Isong has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to confess his sins to Nigerians and pray for forgiveness if he wants to win his second terms bid in the 2019 presidential election.

Isong stated that the President has committed so many sins against Nigerians but admitted that to seek a second term in office was Buhari’s constitutional right.

The cleric however maintained that there are many hurdles for the President to cross, including the confession of sins to Nigerians.

Bishop Isong, who was spoke with DAILY POST in a telephone interview said, stated that Buhari will be taking Nigerians for a ride if between now and May 2019, he cannot convince citizens that he is risking his life and risking the chances of his party to remain in power.

According to him, “But if Mr President sit back and look at his record and be honest to himself and come out, it is not late to confess, the Bible says whoever confesses his sins shall be forgiven, if Mr President can come back and confess and say 90 per cent of security chiefs are Fulanis.

“If he can come back and say the economy is hitting the bottom rock, people are losing jobs, like in our churches, people are packing out to their villages, they are leaving town, they are resigning, if Mr President can come out and confess that I have not been fair to South-South, I have not been fair to South-East.

“Even in the Middle Belt, in terms of Taraba state, Nassarawa state and of course Benue state, I have not come out with strong government policy to stop Fulani herdsmen from killing innocent Nigerians, if Mr President can come out and confess and repent of course, I will cast my vote for him to be President for second term” he stated.

Bishop Isong said that if President Buhari cannot do this, then he is taking his party as well as its electoral chances for granted, he is making a mockery of democracy and risking his name and integrity which he had built for more than 40 years.

“President Jonathan did not perform this badly after his first term, he lost the election and if he want to go by that record, Buhari government is worse than Jonathan and therefore he cannot be given second term chance if Nigerians’ vote is to be counted,” he stressed.

Speaking further, the cleric stated that declaring intention to re-contest does not automatically amount to winning the elections all things being equal and votes count.

“Constitutionally, the President has the right to declare for second term because of the Nigerian Constitution, he is entitled to two terms, it is his right to re-contest as President of Nigeria.

“He is not in breach of the constitution. The President himself has confessed and his party members from Tinibu to governors of APC have said that in the cardinal areas of Mr President’s first term promises, they have not leave up to expectations.

“They are two things here either Mr President re-contests and failed like former President Jonathan failed when he re-contested because of poor performance. By re-contesting he is asking Nigerians to give him second chance to correct his failures of first term and that will be left in the court of public opinion through the voters’ cards God has given to Nigerians to cast the ballot in 2019.”

Isong continued, “I am not speaking as the National Publicity Secretary of PFN but speaking as Bishop Dr Emma Isong. I always hold one view about Mr President re-contesting, like I said, he has a constitutional right to re-contest but if Mr President’s performance can be enhance this last one year, to improve his record, improve his scored card, Nigerians can easily be convinced, we change our minds easily, they can vote for Mr President for second term.

“If Mr President will not improve on security, embarking on ethnic cleansing, security of Nigeria life and property, on economic which has hit the bottom rock in the past 40 years in Nigeria, if Mr President cannot put food on the table of Nigerians and cannot improve anything in the last one year of his first term, then our votes for him in his second term would be like building a house on the sand and when the winds, rains and flood comes, it blows it off.

“And it will be foolish to give him a second chance, if he cannot use the last one year to convince us he can do it, there is nothing to be sentimental about even if he was my senior brother or my father I will not support that.”

Ozekhome urges Nigerians to reject him at polls
The Archbishop, Enugu Ecclesiastical Province (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, has said that re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 would perpetuate suffering and evil in the country.

He, therefore, called on those fanning the embers of continuity to rethink their decision in the interest of the country and Buhari.

Chukwuma, who reiterated his earlier call on Buhari to quit at the expiration of his tenure in 2019, stated that accepting to re-contest the position might lead to his “disastrous end”, as according to him, “he has brought more tears and weeping on the people.”

Speaking with reporters yesterday in Enugu shortly after a service of songs in honour of the late Rev. Canon Chris Nwezi, held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Idaw River, Chukwuma expressed shock that President Buhari could contemplate to re-contest, saying such decision was a mockery on Nigeria.

He said: “I want to let you know that President Buhari declaring or not declaring is not anything to be feared. It is not anything that is new. Rather, he should know that it will lead to his disastrous end should he dare to re-contest. I have told him, he should go and rest.

“He has expired. All those yearning for him to continue are the people benefiting from him. He has not done anything to warrant his coming back to office. The way things are, we need a new wine in a new wine skin. I am against people who are coming out to perpetuate sufferings of the people and Buhari has shown that he cannot solve our problems. We need good governance. It does not matter the party you belong. All the people yearning to become president have all expired. They have no new thing to offer and we cannot continue to perpetuate failure and evil.”

Chukwuma urged Nigerians to intensify in prayers for God to intervene in the leadership of the country by removing all those who have continued to cause hardship and crisis, adding that it was not enough to release looters’ list but to prosecute those involved if the government was sure they were corrupt.

In a related vein, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and constitutional lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, has called on Nigerians to reject Buhari at the polls.

The lawyer, who stated although Buhari has the constitutional right to contest for a second term, said he had performed “abysmally and disastrously below average.”

The SAN, in a statement yesterday, also stressed that the second leg of Buhari’s campaign to stamp out insecurity did not happen.

His words: “At campaign rallies across Nigeria, he convinced gullible Nigerians that as a retired military General, he would lead from the front to crush Boko Haram. Indeed, he gleefully told a bemused country in December 2015 that Boko Haram had been ‘technically defeated’, and repeated it in 2016 that it ‘had been beaten.’ But, Nigerians know that Boko Haram is stronger today, more potent and more deadly than it ever was.

“He had promised to fight corruption. Three years down the line, he has not secured a single conviction of any high-profile politically-exposed person.”

The family spokesman, Emma Kanu, told Daily Sun that the federal government should release Nnamdi’s corpse to them so as to give him a befitting burial.

Emma said ever since the IPOB leader disappeared last year, when his home was raided by the military, the family had always feared for his life.

“Now that it has been reported that he is dead, the federal government should, without hesitation release his corpse to his family, so that we and the entire Igbo nation can give him the befitting burial he deserves because he is a true Igbo son,” he said.

The younger Kanu said even if the IPOB leader was out of Biafra struggle, it would not vitiate the resolve of IPOB and indeed the whole of Igbo to actualise Biafra.

On the call by Gen T.Y Danjuma for Nigerians to protect themselves since those saddled with the responsibility had failed them, Kanu said although the call was belated, however, it was a clarion call which IPOB would not take lightly.

“The call by Danjuma for people in the country to defend themselves means that the elder statesman has just started seeing what the IPOB leader, Kanu saw years back.

“All the same, it is a clarion call which IPOB will adhere to, no matter the circumstance,” he stated.

The Chairman, Congress of University Academics at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr Niyi Sumonu, has spoken on the case involving a a professor at the university, Richard Akindele, accused of requesting for sex from a female student in order to raise her scores.

Professor Akindele was on Monday fingered in sex allegations after leaked conversation between him and the student emerged online.

In the said phone conversation, the professor could be heard asking the student to have sex with him five times to upgrade her scored from 33 to a pass mark.

Reacting, Sumonu asked the university to investigate the matter.

He said, “If it is established that this is true, the person, who perpetrated that does not belong to the academic environment. We are supposed to mould the lives of the students – males and females.”

Also Reacting , the immediate past Deputy Coordinator of NANS in the South West, Mr. Saheed Afolabi, called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

He said, “This is becoming too rampant these days and I want the management of the OAU to investigate this. Although we are still making efforts to know the female student, this should not be swept under the carpet.”

The Public Relations Officer of OAU, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, had earlier stated that the university would set up a committee to ascertain the veracity of the telephone conversation as the matter was a serious one.

Olanrewaju was quoted as saying“We have listened to the audio and we cannot conclude on it now because this is the age of ICT; anything can happen. The university has a way of dealing with such.

“First and foremost, we will set up a committee to determine the veracity or otherwise of the conversation to establish authenticity of the characters involved. If those involved happen to be our lecturer and student as it is portrayed, the university has a machinery of dealing with such.

“Let me make it clear, OAU has zero tolerance for sexual intimidation, sexual harassment and sexual coercion. So, we will not accept it from staff to students; from the workers; from superiors to subordinates and even from students to students.”
