It is no longer news that corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of the society and the entire nation is suffering from the effects. With deep and clear studying of the situation, you will discover that the system itself is encouraging this menace. Or how can you explain the fact that someone earns less than 500,000 naira per annum and he or she is expected to pay the school fees of more tha one child, house rent, transport, feeding and so on in a city like FCT or Lagos, or any other city for that matter? If we don't want corruption to continue, we must profer solutions to the income and earning challenges of the people. One major way to curb this is by encouraging individuals to have multiple sources of income. Like Nigeria, her people must also do every possible thing to change their normal mono-income practice if we hope to solve the problem of corruption. Without additional pay, there's no way people can survive. If expenses are increasing, income also must increase, else, the status quo will remain! Therefore, multiple streams of income is the key to Solving financial hardship, and also corruption in Nigeria. One major area to get additional income is in Agribusiness. From this industry, an individual can create multiple streams of income for him/ her self if engaged in the value chain approach. This means that from one single item, several products can be gotten along the value chain. E.g Fish. From fish, the following are value chain products : * Fingerlings / juveniles * Smoked Fish * Table size production I.e fish above 1kg size. * Fillets * Feed milling * Feed ingredients supply * Finished / imported feed sales * Fish drug/ supplements sales * Pond construction and management services * General Fisheries consultancy services * Processed fish export * Brood stocks production * e.t.c We can see that more than 13 different income lines can be generated from fisheries alone. The same applies to all other Agro items. An individual can create a multiple stream of income for him/her self if equipped with the right knowledge and training. At BIC Farms Concepts, we help Africans to identify opportunities in Agribusiness, tap into it, and also, become role models for others to follow and then repeat the same. Contact us if interested in any area of Agribusiness value chain need. To your success.

Ndigbo’s that are killing themselves about the appointments made so far by President Buhari are just funny. Aside the fact that we Igbos shouldn’t expect sensitive appointments from him because many of us hate him without any justifiable reason and no smart politician will give such positions to his ‘enemies’, what did all our brothers that occupied sensitive positions recently achieved for our geopolitical zone? Recall that Igbos recently occupied head positions in Central Bank and Ministry of Finance. Also,an Igbo was recently appointed Secretary to Government of the federation, Minister of power, Minister of Solid Minerals, Head of Due Process unit, Minister of Education, Minister of Aviation, Executive Director of Nigerian Communications Commission, Chief of Army Staff, Inspector General of Police, Senate President, Deputy Senate President and Deputy speaker of house of Representatives. Also recently, an Igbo was appointed the Director General of National Broadcasting Commission. The question is what did all those Igbo appointees achieved for Ndi Igbo? Even Goodluck Jonathan that you foolishly accepted as your brother during his days in Aso Rock achieved nothing for you when he was the President. If appointments can dictate how a region should develop, southeast would have been a paradise by now because our brothers occupied almost all the sensitive positions recently. Another thing Igbos should understand is that the federal character principle they are quoting as their basis of argument is the greatest enemy of Nigeria especially Igbos. This principle champions the promotion of tribal mindsets instead of meritocracy in Nigeria as Nigerians are always after the state of origin of every federal appointee and prospective candidates for admissions instead of their performance. It is because of same federal character that a provision was made for ‘Education less developed’ states which always make it possible for indigenes of those states to be giving more and cheaper consideration during admissions and recruitment in order to promote equity in line with the federal character. This is Rubbish! Such has caused situations whereby somebody from Anambra or Imo will score average of about 260 in JAMB UTME and POST- UTME but will be denied admission while somebody from states like Zamfara, Ebonyi or Bayelsa will score average of about180 and will be admitted in order to achieve the so called equity in intellectual distribution among all the states in line with same federal character. Same federal character is the reason why instead of criticizing the performance ability of appointees, Nigerians especially Igbos will only be interested in their states of origin. Federal character is evil. This is the hour of change and it must be jettisoned! If Nigeria must progress, we must do away with federal character and state of origin provisions and encourage meritocracy and state of residence. I don’t care where appointees come from, all I want is excellent performance. If the wailing Igbos like they should continue hating Buhari while the Niger-Deltans are busy consolidating their region and supporting his government. At last Igbos will remain the wailing losers. It baffles me the way some of my Igbo brothers are hating Buhari without any justifiable reason. Even the Niger-Deltans that are closer to the failed government of Goodluck Jonathan always acknowledge that he betrayed them, but the Igbos that are not in any way brothers to the failed President are killing themselves and even their conscience with baseless sentiments. Also, I have expected these misguided Igbos to understand that the Niger-Deltans who they foolishly took as their brothers during the elections are not at any point with them. These Niger-Deltans have understood that they can’t make any political achievement in Nigeria without the cooperation of other tribes, and wisely began to issue their supports and cooperation to the Buhari led government while the misguided Igbos are still enslaving themselves with baseless sentiments. Believe it or not, political appointments are catalysed by intelligent lobbying and not unnecessary hatred. No smart politician will appoint his haters to sensitive positions. I will never blame Buhari if he fails to appoint any Igbo to key positions. I am proud of Niger- Deltans and they are already reaping the fruits of their wisdom. Igbos should have a rethink! There is another serious challenge I have seen among catfish farmers. A situation where several amount is spent on feeding of fish only for everything to be lost. With all hard work; changing of water, sorting/grading, ensuring fish are fed to satiation, disease control, plus other operational cost etc, and yet it is like little or nothing is working except for working for the feed manufacturers. I have even noticed another challenge, at least recently, despite the general consensus among catfish farmers that members should 'hatch' and produce their fingerlings themselves or insist on the 'first set' from a reputable breeders (this is what is making waves among grow-out farmers today); all with an intention of getting the best stock and able to determine the growth of the stock- combined with aggressive feeding with both imported and locally formulated feeds to maximize profit, yet little is still been achieved. Even more disturbing is the fact that given this same set of fish a 'particular' locally formulated feed the fish suddenly pick up growth(This is a practical experiment carried out in one of the farm I supervise). I know other farmers can really relate with my challenge and can deduce what am driving at. To my mind, this is a very big issue. Having stocked the right fish, given the proper management, a farmer should get a fair share of his labour, a good return on his investment. Let me state the conclusion of the whole matter here: It is not just the quality of fingerlings stocked as generally believe by farmers(I seriously believe this contribute a lot though) or the failure of management or poor water quality that results in the poor growth of our fish, much more than that is the quality of some of the feeds we have in the market. Feeding alone sweep about 70% percent of farmers operational cost and yet nobody is asking question. How do you explain why some 'big' farms prefer to import their feeds(I would not want to mention names) or why are some brand of feeds reserved for the privileged few and the left-overs for an average farmers. I know a brand of feed that produce different quality of feed for different market. This isn't too good enough. I challenge our feeds manufacturer to improve on the quality of their feeds. An average feed cost about #4000 and yet farmers aren't getting value for their money. Farmers do not have problem buying, so far we have the right content. Also farmers should be watchful of the quality of feeds they use. There are different nutritional content for different crumbs of feeds for different sizes of fish. Let us endeavour to stick to the right feed for our fish... All the best. |
EMERITUS85:Bro, you really succeeded in spoiling Techno market here. Myself for once after this post will never consider Techno. This what the power of a dissatisfied customer can do to a brand. Techno should listen up and attend to customers issues as a matter of importance. |
123papas:. This is why I added 'all things being equal'. There are some feeds brand that claim such, but other factors are inclusive, management, quality of fish etc. |
Whynotthetruth:Semi-earthen is a form Earthen pond, but the only difference is that it is plastered. |
Whynotthetruth:T#1 The Cost is between 80k - 90k #2. In terms of pond - you multiply the cost above by 5. I.e You will need 5 of the pond I mentioned. And on Feeding, Using 1:1 as our FCR- You will need a kg of feed per fish to attain minimum 1kg weight of fish( All things been equal). A bag of feed(imported) is about 4500-5500. This gives you about #300-#350 to produce 1kg fish. To produce 5000 therefore multiply 300 or 350 by 5000 plus your cost of ponds #3. Depending on your soil texture sir. But even at a dependable texture you will still require steady supply of water to make up for leakages that will arise from time to time. Alternative you can use a semi-earthen(This is d only close substitute for earthen. |
AreaFada2:Thanks for your comments. I quite appreciate you. |

This is a really a sad one for our emerging industry. It is a pointer to the fact that we've got a lot to do in our 'quality control' efforts. I hope the fish processing industry quickly retrace their steps and step up efforts at sticking to the global guidelines for food processing, we are a way too young for this ban. God bless Us. |
Amazing works of Amazing Minds! So inspiring. |
Nice write up. But please how can I recover my data from the corrupted memory card before formating it? |
God help the poor corper oo |
This is very helpful. They've done the same to a sister of mine, though not at ATM point but at her shop. She gave over #3000 worth of recharge card, still expecting her money till 2Mao. |
AreaFada2:who are the 'we'? And by the way, you've not asked any question from me. |
Olory:Basically, tarpoline is tranferable, unlike the concrete pond. |
rabzy:the black is '10'X'15' and is between 80-90k |
francizy:Tis to let others learn. |
azeezdawodu:cost of juveniles ranges from #15-#30, fingerlings is about 1gram weight while juveniles is about 10gram and more. Have answered few of your questions on my blog. Do well to check: www.catfishplus. |
thegeniusoye:The outlet is neatly fitted. You can conveniently raise 500PCs. |
Daniel058:very neccessary |
Mustack:For fingerlings I will advice every 3 days. But for grow-out maybe 2 - 3 weeks. |
Buddhar:I will not support a single pond to raise 2000 fishes. Tis a way too risky. Where you have enough water 3 '10'X'10' is good for you. |
bamdexfarms:try and call me sir |
