As a pharm D holder you DO NOT KNOW OR DO EVERYTHING a doctor knows or does. And you probably never will.

And a doctor knows everything about drugs like a pharmacist. The only thing doctors are not bothered with during Medical School is "How these drugs are manufactured in factories."

As early as year 4 medical students are required to pass a mandatory course on Pharmacology. They learn about EVERYTHING pertaining drugs. Including proper dosage, drug interactions, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, side effects, adverse effects.
Mind you they learn all these alongside other demanding fields like Microbiology, Histopathology etc.
This is as early as year 4. . . They basically learn over half of what it took you 6 years to study in less than 1 year.

I'm not trying to take anything away from your profession but don't undermine others to uplift yourself.

Y'all want call allowances, y'all want to be treated like doctors. . . It can't happen.
You have every right to demand for an increment in salary but don't drag a doctor's pay into it. . . Don't try to downgrade someone else to upgrade yourself. It's jealousy.

The so called doctors are telling the world that we are agitating for parity how can that be possible for example if a doctors is already earning N10 and FG increase their salary with N5 making a total of N15, is it bad for the JOHESU who is earning N7 and also asking for N3 increment to make it N10 doest that mean parity? some people are just opened their mouth and saying all sort of rubbish without even get to the root of the matter are the doctors who are now crying fowl can publicize their salary and that of the JOHESU for the world to see? some ignorant people will be supporting the doctors without doing their finding. NMA aren't even bothered by JOHESU salary increment demand. It's their right but why must they bring Doctors' salary scale into it?

And why do y'all want to be Consultants though Why is it included in your demands?

There are some incentives that drive people to go through the headache of medical school and you want to hand it to others who had it relatively easier during training on a platter of gold under the false guise of EQUITY?

They keep saying a starting doctor earns so much than a nurse who's been in the system for years.
You cannot compare a starting doctor to a nurse who has worked for 10years. . . .he still knows more about treatment than the nurse and at the same time knows less than a fellow doctor who's be practicing for 10 years.

A young doctor shouldn't be compared to an old nurse. There's no basis for comparing their duties hence salary scale shouldn't be compared.

I think anyone interested in studying medicine should at least have a degree in Anatomy, nursing, biochemistry, physiology or any other related field before being accepted into medical school.

And why's this necessary?

You'll still be required to study and pass anatomy, physiology and biochemistry all at once in medical school for a shorter amount of time it'll take to earn a degree in each of these discipline.

The number of people studying medicine cannot be drastically increased over night.

Medicine is a Faculty that must be accredited in universities by NUC, NMA etc before it can admit students and give them MBBS degrees.
Some universities are made to admit a particular number of students every year. . . .some 100, some 150 some 200 from a sea of millions of applicants.
That's why the numbers studying Medicine cannot increase dramatically.

Going to a Pharmacist for your cold and catarrh is not self medication. Pharmacists are trained enough to handle such ailments and make referrals to a physician if need be. The issue is, do you go to pharmacy to get the drugs or to a patent medicine store Again, when you go to a pharmacy, do you insist on seeing a pharmacist If you get your drugs from pharmacists in pharmacies, you would get expert prescriptions and counseling better than what you get when you go to some clinics, and that cannot be described as self medication.

Always insist on seeing a pharmacist when you go to buy drugs.

Pharmacists aren't trained to handle ailments or make referrals to doctors.

If Individual A has cough and catarrh, that preson is supposed to go to a hospital where he's asked questions about the onset, character, duration of symptoms, physically examined, tests are carried out to find out if the cause of the symptom is viral, bacterial, fungal or is as a result of another primary illness.
The test results also tell you the drugs that the causative organism is sensitive to so you don't even prescribe wrongly or blindly as a doctor.


Not trying to start a war but pharmacists don't treat ailments.

And sometimes, it's not all infections you even treat. Some turn out to be self-limiting i.e the body's immunity can handle them without external influences.
