Faithful007: Nobody survives a direct hit to the head no matter what you put on.
Helmets are important in war because the majority of death do not come from bullets but from shrapnel and indirect hits from ordnance (artillery, bombs, mines and co)
Contrary to public opinion, rifles are rarely used to kill successfully in war. At most are the machine guns. Rifles are most useful in ambush.
Faithful007: I'm very sure that was not a rifle bullet. Even if it were to be, it won't have come from a direct shot. Helmets cannot stop rifle rounds. If an helmet were designed to stop a direct hit, the impact shock will break the neck.
I've seen where a soldier took a sniper fire to his helmet and his neck didn't break.
kabe1: REVA MRAPs no longer exist in Nigerian army service. The vehicles proved to lack the technical characteristics required to operate in a Nigerian environment. Phased out, and obsolete.
Marauder MRAP - 2 units used by the Nigerian Air Force for Base Defence, not used by the Nigerian army. Different Service!!
24 units, second hand, donated to the Nigerian army in 2013/14. No longer in service with the Nigerian army
All the above mentioned vehicles are the primary MRAPs employed by the Nigerian army in the North-East.
You are wrong, the fact that the Nigerian army bought some of these in the past, doesn't mean they are still in service.
Mengshi CSK-131- 100 units acquired - in service
KIA K152 - 6 units acquired - significant possibility that they have all been destroyed in combat.
VAB,- Do you mean the Panhard VBL -Nigeria purchased these vehicles in 1986(36 years ago) withdrawn from frontline service and into storage.
KrAZ Spartan - Phased out or destroyed in combat.
Otokar Cobra - purchased in 2003, initially withdrawn from the front-line, but around 15 units were recently put back into action.
You are yet to provide any evidence to support your claims that there is a logistical Nightmare currently unfolding in the Nigerian military MRAP deployment.
Can you post that evidence you claim to have?
Kraz Spartan is still in service. It was seen in the documentary made by babajide otitoju
iblawi: WORLD BY LEE BULLEN, ZENGER NEWS ON 5/27/22 AT 6:01 PM EDT WORLD EUROPE MILITARY RUSSIA UKRAINE Russian soldiers used an S-300V anti-ballistic missile system to fire a rocket at a Ukrainian air target, as seen in a video released by Russian military authorities. The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said air-defense crews are using the S-300V missile system to help with their "special military operation" to "demilitarize and denazify" the Donbas region. The Russian military said the anti-ballistic missile system is very effective against both helicopters and aircraft as well as defending against cruise, air-launched and ground-launched missiles, claiming that a battery can control the airspace for miles around. BEST OF NEWSWEEK VIA EMAIL The S-300V is also used to down combat drones, including the Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) commonly used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In other developments, Ukrainian officials said Russian forces have attacked over 40 towns in the eastern Donbas region.
bidexiii: Military clears 14 more ISWAP camps in Kukawa
Source: Zagazola Makama
The Nigerian Army Special Forces troops had cleared 14 more suspected Islamic State of the West African Province(ISWAP), terrorists camps in its operations in the North Eastern the Lake Chad, Zagazola learnt. "Many more of the fighters and their families have also given up their arms following intense pressure and the near impossibility of accessing drugs for their wounded Mujahedeens, while the surviving terrorists were forced to fled to other camps considered to be safe. "They ran toward the waterways of Daban Masara and are currently hiding at Sabon Tumbu, Tudun Wulgo, Kusuma and Sigir Marte and Ngala local government areas. Others fighters were spotted on boats with their families and logistics while trying to escape through Kaduna Ruwa and Kandahar, located between the axis between Niger and Chad Republic,"said the top Intelligence sources.
JOSCOFELIX: please just pack all your load on this forum and leave. i have been studying you quote on this forum especially in this Ukraine and Russia war. my brother you need to go back and check history very well about NATO and USA. Russian have a very legitimate case, if truly USA and NATO want the war to end by now negotiation between Russia and NATO as a whole would have been taking place. USA is hiding something in this war. with the kind of weapon send to Ukraine, if it was send to Nigeria and other African countries by now insurgent and insecurity in Africa would have being an history, instead the will tell Nigeria and Africa country, we are you allies in fighting insecurity and terrorism in Africa. if you have the money to buy from them they will tell you human right. the war they created in Africa by bombing Libya to total destruction is eating African continent Russia did not bomb Ukraine the NATO and USA did to Libya. let me enjoy the comment on this thread
Isn't anyone going to talk about how Russia and Ukraine have suddenly taught Josco how to write in proper English.
RiceProducers: It has uses for static position defence, access denial at a border or in rare engagements where friendly forces are pinned down in such a way that they cannot go up to their turrets, access their vehicles OR they maybe they want to use the entire vehicle (not just its guns) as a UGV.
These situations would be in boring static defence situations that regular manning with soldiers would lead to distractions OR conventional battle against an equally matched enemy fielding RWS.
There is no justifiable use case for using RWS in large nos for COIN or against fast, mobile scattered opposing forces. No advantages are conferred.
I Would rather buy a lot of AGLs for the same purposes you want to deploy RWS.
This is what you should have said, you made it seem as if the invention has no advantage.
RiceProducers: This is a lie. In the fog of battle, target acquisition is not faster. The gunner also does not have as much situational awareness as a manual gunner. Situational awareness in sights and sounds and relative positions of friendly and opposing forces.
If RWS is useless as you claim, why is the military developing it?
These videos prove science & tech of RCWS making those talking against it ignoramus olodoses
Its exactly what Nigerian Army needs to end this war, one cheap 700k IFV-MRAP in each LGA to be leading patrols convoy five Landcruiser Buffalos is two platoons of motorized infantry of 3 vehicles each stationed as garrison permanent. This war ends finally. Only suicide vest madmens go remain for DSS & FCID.
See waste, NA mounted foolishly a $2,000 PKM 7.62mm on giant Typhoon MRAP of half a million dollars, compared to Mali putting RCWS 14.7mm on Marauder MRAP.
No wonder all NA does is repel today same ISWAP attacks again tomorrow, endless circle. Use RCWS with explosive ammo and destroy ISWAP guntrucks beyond repair.
It's funny how you're arrogant and still ignorant at the same time.
jpphilips: Even your test video showed clearly it isnt Quick enough for real combat scenario, nobody goes into battle to cherry pick target the way the video showed, so why should Nigeria get it & to what end? Nigeria could invest in target acquisition systems for their MRAPS anything more is a bloody waste of resources. I used CIWS to give you an example how RCWS is expected to perform in terms of target acquisition, response & rate of fire, you didnt seem to understand that part, read to think. here is a video of a CIWS (a sea based RCWS) then juxtapose with that joke video of yours.
Dont come back to blab you didnt say it is perfect, if you know that much why recommend it? Until Land based RCWS are perfected like CIWS, nobody should be talking about it.
You don't understand the concept of RWS. It's not meant to be like CIWS
Odunayaw: I'm curious to how that picture brought this question
We hardly see NA personnel with beryl riffle which is said to have been adopted as the standard rifle. Only NDA cadets and AFSF uses it. Then all of a sudden we are seeing several NA Soldiers field the AK Alpha.
ProfCaspian: I will be providing content for this thread from now on, since the main guys have decided to abandon it. However, I'll not post only on African conflict zones, but other hotspots in ME and around the world, as well as their training sessions. Others with INTEL can drop too. This thread won't fizzle out.
Antagonism is allowed, unlike before
This thread cannot fizzle out, it's just for the moment.
Faithti: that's a risky move putting a gun hole in the front windscreen when the turret got that location covered...a RPG shot through there when they are firing from it will be catastrophic.
An Accurate RPG shot will kill you anyways, whether there's gun port or not. That area is meant to cover close and lower targets, the turret cannot engage targets too close.
Whyem15: 100m is within engagement zone but at least it's better than nothing.
Detection at 100m reduces element of surprise and places only the frontal part of the lead vehicle at risk which mostly have more protection than the rest of the vehicle's body. Detection at 100m puts only the lead vehicle in danger. Detection range in some terrain could be around 800m to 1km.
justtoodark: look....people with inferiority complex are hard....
blacks forgot it was a black south african that did heart surgery even under apartheid system.... none of us remember his name today because too many black people hate themselves....
sorry....
What are you saying. A Run flat tyre is a type of tyre that can still move the vehicle many miles after been shot or punctured
kabe1: Nigerian made Ezugwu MRAP in 6x6 configuration fitted with PLZ high capacity surveillance camera.
This PLZ camera Will really help in combating ambushes. The vehicle will be able to detect terrorists lieing low on the ground atleast 100 metres away no matter the terrain
GeneralFarouq: Yesterday in zaria depot N.A a soldier took his rifle to two different bars and forgot both the weapon and at which partcular bar he lost it .. MP cordoned the area and traced the bike man who conveyed him to the second bar... The bike man said he saw him with the rifle when he dropped him at the second bar... The rifle was found there... The guy I hear dey guarf room probability us he will be dismissed...
He should be sent to 2 years in military prison then dismissed afterwards. Stupidity of the highest order
I have some doubts regarding the above portion in that some probability of damage might exist post 4-5 interception but not high enough in probability to render APS inoperable majority of times, competent end users/designers will (should) frame op requirements pre and post system development factoring probable kinematic damage from dispersion etc post interception & include mitigation measures either during interception or post interception or both
There are lot of studies done including real ones and stimulations when it comes to kinematics of projectiles etc if it involves any system
APS is a very expensive system , nobody is rich or foolish enough to induct a system which supposedly will lasts 4-5 interception , ironically that too after successful interceptions
Just my POV , you could be right too
Anyways DRDO also started working on it's APS system
Sensors reportedly both radar and IIR based
Pic of launcher module test bench & kinetic effectors from a tender
Lol. In some cases some APS didn't even last more than 2 interception.
