[quote author=Whyem15 post=105459754]If there is one thing that will destroy the work of the current service chiefs, it is lack of publicity. The fact that many people believe the military isn't doing anything about bandits and criminals is in itself a driving force for criminality. In order for deterrence to work, it must be adequately publicized. Apart from deterrence, showing members of the public their efforts in protecting their lives and properties will increase people's confidence and trust in them which will lead to increase support and intelligence gathering. It is human nature to always want to belong to the winning side. This is exactly why many are afraid to provide the military with information because they are afraid of what the bandits/terrorists will do to them when they "win" really do not understand the purpose. It's annoying |

komekn: A cheap aircraft for insignificant friendly nations with limited capacity that suits their budget.
A simple analogy , what percentage % air attack sorties were carried out by the esteemed and best CAS aircraft in the world A29 by the USAF in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.
That will give you an insight into how much it’s rated by the USA and it’s perceived efficacy.
Somehow we seem to think on this platform it’s the best thing going I pray you learn one day that criticism does not equate intelligence. |

ugo4u: It's unethical to give that sensitive position to a foreigner. I'll prefer if that position is given to a seasoned brilliant individual it isn't a must to have an Ex-military personnel head that position same for the Ministry of defence. At that level we need people that can think, formulate working policies/strategies and collaborate seamlessly with all security agencies in achieving the goal of making Nigeria a safe country I fear your takes at times man. There's something going on in the COIN of borno that calls for concern. In recent time ISWAP attacks have reduced significantly and even when they attack these days it doesn't seem to carry much weight. My best guess is either they are conserving their ammo and resources for dry season offensive or JF17 have been carrying out precision strike to wipe out their guntrucks. |

They have upto 28 helicopters, 22 planes under their command. The only problem might be ammunition, fuel and manpower. |

tutudesz: But community leaders are aware of the activities of their youths and such information can solve this problem. I know how many militants have been handed over to JTF in my community and so many others. Do you know how many bandits vigilantes have killed this year alone, some bandits were lynched to death a while ago when they went back to their community. The communities are the ones at the mercy of these guys, they are the ones being killed. The government is the one to be blamed for failing to protect the lives of these people. |

Faithful007: Were they not flown previously?
Can they assemble an army large enough to invade Afghanistan? That's the question. Manpower might definitely be an issue but I believe they will be able to Manoeuvre the situation. The Taliban is 70k in size, they are now in defensive position which makes it harder for them than it used to be. They should first of all take one or two major city close to Uzbekistan so as to distract and spread the Taliban thinner They can then take Kabul through the Kabul airport before US leaves and it falls to the Taliban. I think the Taliban knows this and that's why they have their men outside the airport and checkpoints on the road leading to the airport. They will need to act fast If they are going to be able to achieve this. The more time it takes the harder it will be for them. |

tutudesz: Wow how can you compare the bandits situation up north and that of the south we keep seeing videos of Bandits holding Aks, MPMG and RPG weekly or hearing News of bandits Kidnapping school children. So who is to blame? Community leaders who are aware of their youths banditry activities and refuse to report to security agencies or Government who is waiting for community leaders to report such activities in their areas to them. The job of community leaders is to imbibe values into the society and not to fight guys who wield Gpmg, Aks and RPG. The blame is to the government and not community leaders. You can only apportion blames to the community leaders if the society offers support to them which they don't. |

ugo4u: I so much believe Prof. Ashraf Ghani will be ready to trade them off for raw cash. Nigeria should swop in and cut a deal with the Uzbeks and the remnants of Ashraf's loyalists, something good may come out of it. The man is already holding grudges with the US for abandoning his gov't & may wanna do business with whatever is left of their Airforce. I just pray our intelligence agencies including the military will make move for these hardwares even if we fail to get something we should atleast shoot our shot. Ashraf is no longer legitimate, the vice president has declared himself president. I hope they act fast before US forces leave Kabul airport. |

Faithful007: Most of the defunct Afghan air force aircraft have apparently been spotted in Uzbekistan. These aircraft are not cutting edge tech, so we might not be seeing adversaries lobbying to have them. I doubt the Uzbek government will impound it because their air force is totally dependent on Russia. Unless they need some of it. Also, according to reports, the present government is looking to improve relations with US. So they might be handed over, if the US asks for it. In that case, it might be given to allies like Iraq, Niger, Nigeria maybe.
An entire air force is stateless. Their trainees in India are reportedly in a state of confusion. If they are able to fly and fuel them, trust me they will take back Afghanistan |

Sizzorkay: when people say afghans support the taliban, they simply meant they still have support among the masses, doesn't mean the entire population. We just don't often make that distinction, but it should be obvious. There's no doubt the Taliban has alot support but that level of support does not warrant this kind Victory. The only thing that make sense here is the sabotage mentioned by whyem15 and also probably the effect of propaganda. |
