SamuelAnyawu: Has it been confirmed it was an AA? You don't even need to have an AA to bring down a jet, an ordinary GPMG can hit a delicate part of the jet which would make it crash. I think the pilot was flying too low and the aircraft was hit by luck |

bidexiii: Probably they're already in the country has we speak. The present Military HQ top brass especially the Airforce are very secretive now, the UAV have been delivered and we didn't know anything about it. But it will take minimum of two days, don't forget there will be many stop overs before to get to Nigeria evebtually. I think only the winglong has arrived cos the Air chief mentioned last week while visiting gov of bayelsa that the armed drones will arrive this month. |

Xbee007: The terrorists we are fighting believe victory is from God alone. We also believe victory is from God alone. This means losses can also be attributed to God alone. This is a bad mindset for a professional army. If you do not accept the reality that the losses you suffer are highly likely because of your inadequacies, then the chances that you will suffer such loss again is high. It is also this mindset that makes some of our soldiers behave recklessly, not wearing helmet or bulletproof vest. And why we are still stuck with this soft skin vehicles. Omo Wetyn concern motto and how soldiers fight and act in battle or what terrorists believe So if Taliban or Isis changes their motto to "this we'll defend" that officially makes US army motto ridiculous |

Xbee007: Nigerian Army motto is plain ridiculous. It needs to be changed. "Victory is from God alone" is ridiculous That's one of the best motto out there to me tho Sounds peaceful and dangerous at the same time . |

youghs: The End. May God bless these guys While reading through this story, I just imagined how the battles would have been swift and decisive with proper and precise air cover. Just 2 A29 super tucano in that 7 hour battle would have been able to take out about 60 strategic equipment or post within 10 min with APKWS while 2 armoured bell or EC350 helicopter gunners feast on the fleeing remnants. With this kind of air support, the battle would not even last 30 min. |

SamuelAnyawu: I really don’t know about this. But we averagely have almost 2 battalions in each of the 27 LGA in Borno state.
I know about 4 Brigade ( Gwoza, Bama, Dikwa/Marte, Damboa and Monguno which looks bigger than a Brigade)
If we know the number of personnel per Brigade or Battalion we might have a rough estimate. I think a brigade is 3k to 5k troops while a battalion is 600 to 1k troops. |

Stormtrooper11: We didn't really need to increase VAT to7%. It was unnecessary. What were we doing with the 5% VAT?. Nigeria's major sources of income are: taxes, port tariffs and oil exports. In recent years the FIRS, had been performing splendidly. Look, but its still not close. I go to the market almost daily to purchase foodstuffs. I see how market women are extorted by tax collectors. In a day, 10 different people can collect tax from a single stall. My point is, we are not even organized in grassroot taxation. Statistics might state otherwise, stats might say taxation is low, but actually people are extorted of their incomes daily. All these are reasons for our inflation and increase in prices of foodstuffs, coupled with insecurity. We are a country that live with assumptions. We don't even have accurate data. We just use estimates. If you have stayed in rural areas, you will understand. I don't oppose increment in taxation. But we should be accountable. Taxes shouldn't be mismanaged The VAT at 7% is still low bro. Increasing our tax to GDP ratio means reducing tax evasion, revenue leakages, widening tax net and not just by increasing tax rate. I don't know why it's so hard to do, Even many African countries have moved towards this path but we are still stuck with resource based revenue. |

Stormtrooper11: Negative. its not a single reason. That's the main thing. Without money you're just worthless man, you won't be able to fight corruption, provide security, provide infrastructure or social amenities and so on. Go and make research about countries who are around or on the same level as us with respect to revenue/tax to GDP ratio and you'll see similarities of issues. Nigeria's economy is top 30 in the world, but revenue/tax to GDP ratio ranks below 100 countries(one of the lowest in the world). |
