GeneralFarouq:
Have been thinking along this line too, but it hard to say it out without blaming the competence of the dead themselves...
Some of this ambushes could be averterd of our soldiers followed proper procedures during patrol.
1.Don't they send advance parties...
2.. do they all just stay in their vehicle and just drive around looking for terrorist...
they ought to have employed foot soldiers who will always scout 200 metres ahead of convoy checking the bushes to make sure insurgents ain't lurking around...
Infact most of the patrols should be on foot, thier equipment should be kept in vehicles to reduce the load of each soldier.
The team should be divided into two where they will take turns patrolling on foot.; That is while team 1 is resting , team 2 is on foot 200 metres ahead checking for hostiles..
Foot patrol?? Do you think borno is some kind of a community or a local government. This guys patrol 30km and above, how on earth do you cover that on foot. The dreaded Maiduguri-monguno road is almost the same In distance as lagos-ibadan expressway.

Look at how close this bastard's got to !
Until when we make MRAP's/ IFV our standards for transporting troops this type of shit will continue to happen.
R.I.P to this gallant men.
95% of ambushes or more will be squashed If the military adopt the use of tethered drones to provide constant surveillance for troops during movement. It's just that the vehicles will not be able to move more than 48km/hr.

A system like this will change the game and they are not really expensive.

I don't know why the army doesn't consider this vehicle as an immediate substitute.
I'm sure the cost would not be upto $60k though the vehicle will probably not be able to withstand 7.62mm AP but it's still way better than completely soft skin hilux.

I've always known you to be a very purposeless fellow. Most especially during your days as camp commandant in Calabar NYSC camp. I'll teach you a very bitter lesson in that same Nigerian army wey you dey. Go and ask your kind sikowitz from the army SSC/DSSC recruitment thread and how I bleeped him up. Just be careful with me, drop that 3 star on your chest and respect and give compliments to those you ought to else the results might be nasty. One or two calls to NA HQ Abuja or tradoc Minna and you're a goner. My advice, just pipe low and enjoy the thread .

You are equally a victim of the nonsense you are defending, despite your years here, are you saying you don't know Nigerian Navy has ground units?
What is wrong in training a ground unit in Kano when all the Amphibious units are littered down south?

why should it matter if its in South or north?
I know most Nigerians have mental issues, pls stop making yours very obvious.

Who here has operated with airforce ground forces/sf, how effective is their training in terms of tactics and how sound are they? Are the training realistic in enough to make them understand how easy you can get killed if you loose your nerves under fire and is this drilled in them, and in what scenarios are live bullets used during their drills? I ask this, because during contacts/ operations they seem to loose high number of personnel compared to the navy SBS, infact the SBS has a reputation of getting job done with minimal casualties, and I have seen a bit of their training, in SBS training you can easily get killed if you flinch, because you are given a task to accomplish under live fire, we are talking bullets hitting 2 fleets from you during training.
SBS cannot be compared to NAF panther, them no be mate.
And secondly you need to factor in the number of engagement NAF panther get every year. When you factor that in, you'll realize the casualty level is very very low.

I want to believe this write up...but what is ak 49? What is German ak 47? What's Apg?

And ak47 1.2 million naira, where there are surplus black market weapons lying around this market of the world? These few points makes me question the whole write up.
Two years ago, an AK-47 riffle was sold around 450k+ which the writer acknowledged. So it's possible he's right or almost right.

This are NA ‘Combat unit, Fighting with motorcycle’. A recently re-modelled version of locally available civilian motorcycles which can be armed with an AK-47 or a light machine gun. It carries two soldiers and was designed to support hot-pursuit operations against criminals in the North West/central.

Why can't they just use this concept.

Believe wetin Afunanya dey tell una at your own peril.
I think you need to learn more about functions of security agencies. DSS is just an intelligence agency and not a fighting force, the FBI would be seen as worthless today if US police services are nothing to write home about. Who would have known the DSS gave intel to the police in imo three times before the attack on the prison cell in Owerri. No matter how effective an intelligence agency is, they will never be seen as effective if the main door kickers are not effective.

Strange RUMORS from the northeast.
Hearing that Al-barnawi might have been killed. Also, JAS now has a new leader.
Rumors though.
There's no perfect time to begin offensive other than now. I hope once they are done with the 2 weeks operation in NW. They would begin NE operation.

Do you know why these bandits choose to seek truce with the community (vigilante) in kaduna state some months ago through the bearded Sheik and not with the government (police, military) ?
Oga dey drop full gist na, stop going through the corners
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by youghs: 10:15am On Sep 05, 2021
Whyem15:
Two weeks isn't enough to deal with the crisis in the northwest Sha, I don't know how they are going to achieve something meaningful under two weeks. Unless they are going to be training and recruiting volunteers into vigilante groups that will continue pushing on the bandits after the military might have weakened them in these two weeks.

It is believed that the Niger special vigilante corps(NSVC) trained and under the supervision of the police and the Niger state government are behind the recent killings of over 40 bandits in shiroro community of Niger state. In the neighboring state, the governor with the advice of his ex-bandits security advisers have banned vigilante groups for months now. Some of those advisers were recently caught involving in crimes.
Two weeks is even too much. These guys have Camps they operate from. The only thing the military need is to attack those camps and make sure no one or weapon gets out.
The rest of the work can be done by the police.

Something fishy is going down.
Funny enough I've already predicted some of these things happening in North West like (Negotiating hostage releases before operation)√, (telecoms shut down)√, (blocking of supply routes)√, (transfer of attack helicopters or other important platforms to NW from NE for a week operation while 4 A29s serve as CAS platform in the NE in meantime)***? etc.

I initially predicted that the shut down and military clearance would last just 7 days.

I feel the military not attacking bandits day by day are probably from the lessons of COIN i.e attacking terrorist or criminal groups bit by bit only strengthens them, but you put fear of God into their hearts when you go for an all out attack.

Now that the new necessary platforms are on ground I believe the military is about to carry out an all out attack to clear bandits camps in zamfara and NW in general.

Exactly.
