Without the Nigerian military, the whole of Nigeria would have been a killing field
It's interesting how some of you guys try to hold honest conversations with folks that you know are bent on tilting facts and truth to any length just to serve their sentiment or agenda.

Learning lesson by force on right ways to wage war on guerilla insurgency CT-COIN - After using Nigeria's same army equip Vickers & T-72, AML90, CS/VP MRAP, now Kenya learns lesson, decides to buy wheeled IFV with 30mm cannon, considers Arma 8x8 IFV etc.

https://www.dailysabah.com/business/defense/kenya-considering-purchase-of-turkish-armored-vehicles

After Kenyan Army see dozen MD-530F light combat helicopter is very useful vs insurgents, but only by mighty legs on land like IFV can Kenya win them war as a whole VS Al Shabbab not just win small battles here and there day after day like forever no end. Flood the whole war theatre top to bottom east west north south flood all spaces with modern IFV of MRAP capability joined to amphibious IFV hi-tech ISR and rapid fire medium calibre long range cannons (Arma IFV has option variant of combo fortification blasting 100m gun + 30mm Toyota guntruck killer) on vehicles moving many soldiers at speed around everywhere enemy shows face, that dominating the land territory completely with overwhelming motorized/mechanized force swarming like termites and bees is how to win insurgency war today
Why would you spend over $2million on that while you can just spend $350k max on fitting M230 chain gun on our Isotrex huh.
We fit add on armour on the APC to give it the about same protection as the 8x8.

In my own opinion tho, I feel it's a waste of resources to spend over $2m on an IFV just to fit 30mm on it against terrorists with Max firepower of 14.5mm guns.

Seriously ? If the army use these barbaric and useless methods, you will not end with insurrections even in 50 years
Acts like that is a display of unprofessionalism.

But it has nothing to do whether the war will end or not cos that terrorists would still end up dead anyway.

I think this year will go down to be the year in a long time with lowest casualty for the Military in North East.

Do you know how much it cost to operate an Agusta, for just an hour? This is not sustainable at all... We should imploy an all encompassing security strategy and that starts with identifying and attacking the bandits/ cum terrorists and their camps head-on, unrelentlessly. The gov't is still playing politics with banditry otherwise I don't see why they haven't been declared terrorist even though Lai Mohammed came on air to tell us that they can't be declared terrorists because they don't have flags and don't threaten the existence of Nigeria. El-Rufai have been begging FG to declare these guys as terrorists to no avail that's by the way sha the attack on the train was not surprising to me what was surprising is that it took them this long to begin to attack the trains, all the big men abandoned Kad - Abj road for the trains and you think the bad guys won't change strategy?
It will take a while before train services will be restored on that route as it is impossible to monitor the tracks for that distance.
Politicians and high ranking individuals will abandon the trains for the air till Bandits acquire Manpads.. oooo! I even forgot the road leading to the Kaduna airport is even worse in terms of insecurity than the Kad-Abj highway... State/community policing still remains the best way to go an El-Rufai would have taken very decisive decisions if had control of the Police.
I think you do not get that part. The aircraft will only be used for quick response when cameras or drones detect threats on the rail tracks.
You know there's an Airforce base in KD and I believe some Aw109s are stationed there, so the aircraft will be called upon if there's a need to neutralise any threat detected.

We've had just one case of attack since the rail was commissioned in 2016. so let's assume we encounter 10 threats in a year, deploying an Augusta 10 times in a year isn't going to cost anything.
And if bandits plan attack 10 times in a year without success, they most likely will ditch the plan

How are we killing ISWAP leaders? Through Soldiers on ground or Air strike.
The way our security personnel are reporting these deaths is kinda quite confusing.

Here in Borno it is claimed that Al-Barnawi was injured in an ambush by loyalists of Shekau around mandara area.
The claim is about the replacement, they didn't claim they killed Al barnawi

350k deaths? how accurate is that
Not direct cause but from indirect cause such as starvation, diseases, abandonment and so on.

My issue with the cam idea is distance and response time, not to talk about the kilometers the train path passes, it will require tremendous resources.
if the idea is to simply warn , then sure, but no way they will catch the perp
We can dedicate one NAF AW109 or Bell for quick response.

I don't think CCTV will cut it, may be a satellite. CCTVs are very easy to destroy especially in remote places.
Satallite is impossible. It will be too expensive and still won't give you the desired result.

GeneralFarouq:
Seriously bro, the route through which rail lines passes are remote areas, where there are no network and electricity,
Cameras wouldn't do a thing, because... Let assume we get solar powered ones, what about transmitting visuals to HQ.
It practically impossible as network in such areas are poor and if it will be transmitted through some other modes, u will need to build receiving outpost every 2 kilometres . Now do u know how long the rail line extend from Kano to Lagos...
And as for satellites that a no go, since the area it will be required to cover is across the Nation, the accurate positioning, and no of satellites required to cover this long routes is probably a work of fiction
As someone recently suggested here, we ought to have created a task force that will be focused on handling situations where bandits attack a train and take hostages.. and even provide personnel to escort the train..NSCDC is better option, they should put their so called special forces into this duties...
I get your point tho.

Another option is to mount surveillance cameras on the train car so as to detect irregularities on the rail tracks and surroundings before getting to the spot.
This idea may be easier and more feasible.

Thank you oooo, i was writing a response, then deleted it. why bother lol.
these are called soft targets for a reason.
cameras go do wetin,? lol.
Cameras will make you know if there's a threat ahead na. And if there is, the train will be asked to stop or return to station while the security agents move in to probe and neutralise the threat.

The incident doesn't look like bomb explosion tho. But let's wait for report from the responsible stakeholders.
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by youghs: 4:36pm On Oct 21, 2021
I wonder why it took those guys this long, though I don't know if it's entirely true cos the circumstances of the incident does not really correlate and this is not first the media is wrongly reporting technical accident on rail tracks as an attack.

I've been thinking about the possibility of this since last year, I don't know why it took them this long cos it's a very easy thing to do.
The dumbos we have as leaders will rather wait for it to happen before they take action rather than prevent it.

The only thing we need to prevent occurrences like this are just normal CCTV cameras that cover the entire rail length.
Installing one camera per 100 to 200meters will give us total coverage and wouldn't even cost us up to 2million dollars.

But now we've lost a train car, thank God no live was lost. I'm glad some part of the tracks were destroyed, that will make them cease operation for a while and probably fix the cameras b4 operation resumes.

Looks like they’ve drafted a full military Battalion to Maiduguri Airport. Lots of search and screening.

Until we start a really massive operation like 2015.

But I noticed most Soldiers here always speak about 2015 operation. It looks like it was the biggest operation in Borno state.
Boss You go just dey start intel from middle
Help us Drop full intel na.

Yeah the 2015 operation was the biggest And it was not just borno alone.
It was the first major "doubt clearing" operation the military gave BH.

Instead of trying to employ fallacies. Sit down and ask yourself. Why is the government repeatedly denying the act of paying bandits, when evidence keeps on growing. From sustained rumors,to a WSJ piece. Why does every bloody group with automatic rifles seem to overwhelm the government?

Why then do we have special forces? Or are they just better trained infantry. What happened to night missions, door kicking, sabotage, reconnaissance, captures and assassinations?

Think, brother think.

Many of you here like to feel smart, but are averse to criticizing own beliefs.
Omo bro nawa for you, it's not everything that's anti government you must jump on.

These current service chiefs are annoying.
NAF carried out 5 missions 5days ago in jibia and we did not even hear anything, no statement, no video nothing nothing.

We are missing alot of opportunities we have to write the military name in gold.
Propaganda has always been part and parcel of war since the beginning of human existence. If Azerbaijan did not post videos of their drone strike during their war with Armenia, only Few guys would have given a shit about Turkish drones. Just a couple of videos gave the Tb2 drone largest market it has ever seen.

But over here, I do not understand.

Surveillance, sure, but the idea of using drones to drop expensive bombs on a single technical will end up being a pricey adventure.
How about just using the air assets to track and then send SF after them. If we make these bombs, that would at least help a bit, but importing them and using them on single pickup truck, i think that's a waste, unless of course they mass in one place with lots of technicals and foot soldiers etcs
Just wondering out loud of course. The cost
Exactly bro, many don't put cost into consideration. The only thing I think UCAVs should be used for are strategic purposes like taking out enemy convoy, taking out VBIEDs, providing CAS when there's no other platform in sight at that time and eliminating HVTs but not for offensive purposes.

Tobiloba24072:
An all out offensive is the only way to stop this rubbish, we are like fighting a boxing match with a worthy opponent, they kill us, we kill them, even with air strikes we are killing 20s, over 1 month with all the firepower we have, we only kill 250 bandits.
I want dead bodies, the blockade war isn't cutting it.As it stands now, we are in a stalemate and they are matching our punches, when we weigh more , stronger and better trained.
The thing here is that we need to be using atleast one or two helicopters when conducting clearance of camps. These guys quickly runaway in huge number with alot of weapons when attacked in their camps, the helicopters are the assets that can be used to inflict maximum damage which would destroy the equipment they are moving with and eliminate the escaping bastards. if helicopters are dedicated for mowing down fleeing bastards then we will start recording high number of enemy kills.

Our helicopters should be modified with RCWS 20mm or 23mm cannon on the door which gives the door gunners better accuracy to mow down the bastards running away. 4000 rounds on one helicopter should be able to hit atleast 400 targets.
