Our man is already warming up for a 4th straight Ballon D'Or Award.

Messi lands ESPY award
Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been voted as the Best International Athlete in the 2012 ESPY Awards while LA Galaxy star David Beckham won the Best MLS Player Award.

The ESPY Award (short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award)
was started in 1993 by sports network ESPN to recognise individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance via voting by the fans.

Messi held off comeptition from other sports stars like Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo, current world no. 2 Novak Djokovic and LPGA Championship winner Yani Tseng to add one more award to his already-bursting trophy cabinet with the Best International Athlete award.

Miami Heat star and NBA winner LeBron James was the big winner of the night, winning the Best Male Athlete, Best NBA Player and the Best Championship Performance awards on top of sharing a Best Team of the Year with the Miami Heat.
New Yotk Knicks guard Jeremy Lin, of the 'Linsanity' fame, won the Best Breakthrough Athlete while Novak Djokovic won the Best Male Tennis Player award despite slipping off the no. 1 spot after the Wimbledon Championships.
LA Galaxy star David Beckham similiarly lost out on a place in the Team GB football squad but was chosen as the Best MLS Player award.

The ceremony, held in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, was hosted by comedian Rob Riggle of 'The Hangover' fame and showcased tributes to stories away from the sporting field as well.
Record-breaking former Tennessee Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt was given the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for her battle against Alzheimer's Disease while former Rutgers American footballer Eric LeGrand was given the Jimmy Valvano Award for fighting a debilitating spinal cord injury that ended his playing career.

Education / Re: What Can You Remember In Your Primary Comprehension Reader? by yourangel: 6:00pm On Jul 10, 2012
I still remember this: THE CLEVER DOVE

One day, a boy caught a dove. While it was in his hand, the dove said to him,"Please don't kill me. Let me tell you four things that will make you rich."
"What are they?", asked the boy.

"One -", began the dove, "always keep what you've got"
"I shall do that", said the boy, "I shall not forget. What's the second thing?"

"Two - Do not cry because you can't have what you want", said the dove.

"Three - When someone talks to you, you must stop and think."
"Why?" asked the boy.

"Because you will hear a lot of things that aren't true", answered the dove. "Now let me fly to that tree, and I shall tell you the fourth thing."
The boy let the dove fly to a nearby tree.

"What was the first thing I told you?", asked the dove looking down at the boy from the tree.
"Always keep what you've got.", answered the boy.
"You haven't done that, have you?" asked the dove. "You've let me fly away. And now, I shall tell you the fourth thing. Inside my body, there is a large piece of gold. It is as big as your hand."

When the boy heard this, he began to cry.

"You have told me the first thing I told you", said the dove, "Now what is the second?"
"Do not cry because you can't have what you want", answered the boy, and he stopped crying at once.

"You have told me the first and second thing I told you. Now what is the third?"
The boy stopped and thought for a moment, then he said, "There isn't any gold inside you, is there?"

"True there isn't", answered the dove, and it flew away at once.

confetti:

One more thing to other readers, I still don't know the meaning of that 100 naira note. My sister said it is talent, my mom tot it should be the life that he gave back to me. I still don't know especially as I do not really see any particular special talent in me. Am still searching for the meaning of that money given back to me.

God of mercy! I am very happy for you, my dear brother/sister, whichever. That wasn’t an ordinary experience.  To be given a second chance? That’s very rare. I hope you’re not taking it lightly? May God help you to fulfil destiny in Jesus name. Amen.

Regarding the 100 Naira note you were given; have you read the parable of the talents? So, be wise; don’t ever go and dig your 100 Naira note in the earth o. If you carefully study the parable of the talents (which I would advise you to take up as an assignment and diligently study it in the spirit (Matthew 25:14 -30)), you would discover that God didn’t tell the servants what to do with their talents. All He needed from them was a return on investment.  Please don’t do a guess work. This is a very serious matter. Go down on your knees in fasting, worship and prayers to ask the Giver of the money (N100 note) what He wants you to do with it. Have you asked Him? “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asks receives” Matthew 7:7&8a.  Daniel prayed and God revealed the dream of Nebuchadnezzar to him; for our God reveals secret and hidden things if you ask Him to do so, ”He reveals the deep and secret things: He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.” Daniel 2:22

As for you not having a special talent, I think you don’t need to have any special talents before fulfilling destiny. Moses never had any special talents. Inshort, he stammered and wasn’t eloquent (Exodus 4:10), yet God used him greatly. Jeremiah was merely a baby with no talents. He couldn’t even talk properly (Jeremiah 1:6), but when God touched his mouth his ministry opened up. Our Lord Jesus never had any special talents “, and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him” Isaiah 53:2b. It was the anointing (touch) of God that made His Ministry successful. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power:  who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38. Please go down on your knees and ask God for your own touch. It is well with you in Jesus name. God bless.

What an interesting thread! God bless everyone of us. Nuella 2, thank you very much for initiating an edifying thread like this! I am like a man who has found abundance of treasure. I found Christ when everything else had failed me. I met my ex-girl friend at a time I was contemplating giving up on life; at a very tender age due to some early setbacks that I suffered while growing up. I started attending church because my girl friend persuaded me, else she would leave. In order to please her I attended a programme in her church one day. She was very happy and before I knew it I started attending Sunday services regularly. That was the beginning of my breakthrough. We were both teenagers though I completed my secondary school few years before her. We both got admission to study at two different Federal Universities in Nigeria. Life really became hard for me; I was at the verge of withdrawing from school because things were hard. There was no money for I am from a humble family. My lovely girl couldn’t bear it any longer; she gave in to the pressure from other well to do guys and she left me. I was battered, scattered, devastated, wounded, injured and frustrated. The good news is that it was at this state of frustration that I found Jesus Christ in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lonely in heart and yea shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my laden is light.” I felt within me that Jesus Christ wasn’t drunk or high on any substance when He made that promise of giving rest to those who are frustrated in life.

I took my Christian life seriously, gave my life to Him by getting born again (even though I had been attending church for more than a year, but I wasn’t born again, because I was fornicating with my girl then). I began to study God’s Word like a man seeking for air to live by. No wonder His Word says in Jeremiah 29:13 that “Ye shall seek me, and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Sometimes we deceive ourselves by playing religion, and not truly giving our lives to Christ. People would see us as Christians whereas, we are mere church goers. I was a church goer for a very long time; but now I’m born of the Spirit. I have found something in Christ. I am holding Him and will never let Him go. I would rather die than allow this love to fade or break. I am now in charge of circumstances around me. I control events around me using the almighty weapon of faith. I process my desires (in line with God’s will) using the currency of faith. Lord Jesus says “Only if you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes.” Mark 9:23. My joy and peace know no bounds since I found Christ Jesus. My life has been from grace to grace and glory to glory. There has never been a better yesterday.

Few months after I got born again, I got an undergraduate scholarship from one of the multi-national oil companies in Nigeria. My financial struggles ceased. Having completed my NYSC, I got an international scholarship for my Masters Degree studies in the US. On completing my MSc, I got a Ph.D scholarship in the US. Jesus has made me (a bush/village boy) an international boy; no more limits; no more hindrances; no more struggles: no more lack. At times it could be challenging; trials would come, but Jesus is always there for us at any time to help and strengthen us. I have ceased from struggles, self, materialism and the deceitfulness of worldly riches. I am a happy young man whose goals in life are eternal life and to preach Jesus Christ to my generation.

Brothers and sisters, I have found something words cannot explain; my joy is unspeakable. Jesus is good. I love Him with all my soul. He’s my Lord, Saviour and Best Friend. May God help us to know Him more according to Philippians 3:10 “That I may know him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings being made conformable unto His death.”  Glory be to God in the Highest. May God continue to strengthen and bless us all. May He help us to serve Him in Spirit and in Truth because He desires such worship from us. May it be well with us in Jesus name. Amen. May God bless my ex-girl friend wherever she is. God used her to show me the way; even though it was done in the wrong way. God bless us all

Do you mean Atiku would step down for a southerner to continue the Obj's second term? Please let us always argue objectively. Any sane man in GEJ's shoes would do the same. Presidency Refutes Report That Jonathan Has Seen Yar’Adua
Font size:   OUR REPORTER 01/03/2010 12:30:00
PHOTO: NIGERIAN ACTING PRESIDENT, DR. GOODLUCK JONATHAN.

San Francisco March 01, (THEWILL) – The presidency has come out to refute reports in some news media that the Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has seen Nigerian ailing President, Umaru Yar’Adua.
The Acting President’s spokesman Ima Niboro in a short note to THEWILL said, "There is a story making rounds in the media that the Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, met with President Yar’Adua this morning.

"This story is entirely false. The Acting President has not seen the President since his return from Saudi Arabia last week. This is for clarification please."

President Yar’Adua is presumably holed up in the mobile intensive care unit, the same one that purportedly transported him from the airport to the villa and has not been seen by any top government official including the Acting President since November 23, 2009.

The Acting President has made two attempts to see him as reported earlier by THEWILL. He however met with Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua last week at the President’s official residence in the villa.

This is a Nigerian problem and no country has the right to demand information from Nigeria.

I do not totally agree with you bro. The current political situation is of great concern to the international community. God forbid that the situation degenerates into full blown war, I bet you the intenational community would find it difficult to carry-out peace keeping operations. How many peacekeepers are you going to use in a country of over 140 million? The US, UK and EU are showing concerns because they know what it would cost them if things are allowed to go worse than this. You remember Murphy's law? "If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong", hence in potential problem solving you try to make sure things don't go wrong (which is risk analysis) inorder to avoid causing any problems.

I am not a typical fan of the US, but I like what they are doing in this regard. Since the so-called cabal responsible for this mess does not respect or fear Nigerians; believe me they respect and fear the US.  This is what the US is trying to leverage upon by speaking out and showing its interest so as to scare these idiots (turai and co). Let's watch as the journey continues! May God help Nigeria and Ngerians!

1745 - The house of representatives chairman on rules and business, Eta Inang, says that the National Assembly still recognises Goodluck Jonathan as the Acting President of Nigeria.

1736 - Security sources say Mr Yar'Adua was forced to relocate to Nigeria from Saudi Arabia following the decision of the Saudi government to avoid a mounting diplomatic crisis.
1545 - Michael Aondoakaa is also scheduled to return this afternoon.

1530 - The private meeting has ended and the Minister of Information gave a very quick briefing confirming that the Acting President would indeed be meeting with the first lady this evening. She dodged the obvious question of why he is meeting the first lady and not the President.

1448 - Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to meet with First lady Turai Yar’Adua this evening

I think the so-called Awoyokun, who wrote this piece is lame and biased towards Christianity. He didnt get his facts right.

The same Albert Eistein said in a 1941 symposium entitled "science, philosophy and religion" that : "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind". Hence, it's not possible to separate science from religion. What do you say about great scientists like Isaac Newton and  Galileo Galilei who were devoted christians? Awoyokun spoke like someone who doesnt believe in God (only a fool would say there is no God), whereas the Eistein he talked about had these comments to make about God Almighty:

"At any rate, I am convinced that He [God] does not play dice".   Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955), In a letter to Max Born, 1926

"Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish".   Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

How could you compare the prediction of eclipse with the second coming of the Messiah? You better give your life to Christ before it's too late.

It's up to him to decide when to talk, and what to talk about.
But Elijah rebuked Ahab and Jezebel, so he can always do that,if he wish!.
Just a thought!

Elijah rebuked Ahab and Jezebel because God asked him to do so. That was why the same God also gave him (Elijah) protection and provision when Ahab and Jezebel were after his life.

One of the characteristics of a good leader is the ability to listen to his followers (or people). In spiritual leadership it's not so. A good spiritual leader is one that listens to the voice of God and not those of men. If Pastor Adeboye speaks because we want him to speak, he would be on his own before God. Meanwhile, if he speaks because God has asked him to do so, he would get the full backing of Divinity and the host of Heavens. Hence he would prefer to be quiet and do otherwise only when his Master (God Almighty) instructs him to say something.

Every true man of God would listen to God and not man. King Saul listened to the voice of man (instead of God's) and it cost him his destiny as the King of Israel (1Samuel 15:24). God bless Nigeria and us all!

LOL . . .some guys just like running away from responsibilities grin

It's not a matter of shying away from responsibilities. I think there's a big difference btween BF/GF relationship and marriage. I think all the duties listed by the poster are those of husbands and wives and not for boys and girls practicing with love. Looking at them from African cultural perspective, I think they are not morally and religiously proper for a BF/GF relationship. But for marriage, EXCELLENT!

Romance / Re: Your Duty As Someone's Boyfriend Or Girlfriend? by yourangel: 1:02am On Sep 17, 2009
Ujujoan :

I noticed that most people shy away from their duties as someone’s Boyfriend and Girlfriend. By GF/BF I mean anybody you are in a committed relationship with (with or without sex). Of course for the married/engaged couples, it goes beyond duty; it becomes a responsibility.

For a guy, these are the things he would expect from a GF.
1. Help make his meals: Even if she doesn’t know how to cook, she should ensure he always has food to eat. Either by making him cook and store or by getting a cook for me. Either way, his feeding should be her responsibility. Of course the guy does the funding!!
2. Help keep his house clean: Now I know this is hard for most ladies to understand but guys operate better in a clean environment. Even though he’s a bachelor, his apartment should always reflect the presence of a woman in his life. If you can’t clean, get help!!
3. Help with his Laundry: Okay, that’s a no-go area for most girls but the truth is that, guys expect it. It’s not right to sit back and watch you BF wash his clothes. A lady should ensure that her guy is at his best appearance always! If you can’t wash, take them to the cleaner and pick them up! Of course he should foot the bill.
4. Help with his personal hygiene: Well some guys can be pigs you know. It’s a girl’s responsibility to ensure her guy gets a timely haircut, manicure/pedicure, shave and other things that come with looking good.
5. Host his friends: Guys like to host their friends once in a while and as his GF, you should try your best to be there for him. Don’t just write it off as a guy’s thing . .  be there to serve the drinks, serve the snacks/meals, make the small talks, and know when to leave if they want to get down to the guys talk. Just being there makes him happy that you can blend into his life!!
6. Be with him: As a GF, as far as the r/ship involves sex, it’s your duty to satisfy your BF. Sometimes, it’s not even about the sex, it’s about knowing he can hold you in his arms all night long. A guy needs comfort from a girl, so as his girl, you should let him know you are there! That’s very important.

As a girl, these are the things I expect from my BF.

1. Handy-man: Okay the word’s a bit derogatory, but if I have a BF, he should be there to fix my things. Electrical faults, plumbing, household appliances and even my car. Even if I have to pay for it, he should be the one to take it to the electrician/mechanic and make sure it gets fixed! If I have to travel a far distance, he should be ready to drive me, if I have a flat tire, he should be ready to change it and get it fixed. Infact, if I need anything done, he should get it done. That’s why we really hare their numbers on speed dial :d
2. My escort: Well I can’t go for that wedding/ Party alone! He has to come with me.
3. My protector: Okay, before you say another word to me, I’ll have you know that I have a BF :d I actually let a guy go cos he let someone else toast me while I was with him. Before you talk to me, you think of what my BF will do to you!
4. Money: I know you guys don’t want to hear this but it’s the fact! My BF (poorer or richer than I am) pays for my hair and my clothes. Now I don’t expect him to take up totally financial responsibility of me, but if I’m throwing my B/day party, he shd pay for it or at least pay for most of it. He should at least once in a very blue moon, take me and my ladies out! He should pay for some lil things that I need and he should contribute, no matter how small, in anything I do!!
5. Call me: Now this is a very tick one. If I have a BF, he should be the one calling more often. No matter how busy he is. He should call and check up on me while I’m at work, he should call me when I’m sick, he should call me when he wakes up in the morning and before he sleeps at night. . .  cos I’ll expect him to!
6. Be with me: It’s not just the guys that want sex, we want it too. We also love the feeling of curling up in his arms all night long. We love company, we love knowing he’s there!!

If all these are done in BF/GF relationship, please what else do you expect them to do in marriage ( except the lady answering the man's name and bearing him children)? I think these are too much for mere BF/GF relationship full of so many uncertainties

Career / Re: Banks Should Run Shifts by yourangel: 3:56pm On Sep 13, 2009
Banks cannot run shifts because their operation is not 24/7, so it wont be cost effective. Just like Redman said, the security implication is also very high. The core operating period in the bank is between 8am and 6pm. So, one wouldnt expect two shifts to run in just 10 hours (about 5 hours per shift). In order to give employess more time for rest, families and other personal engagements, employees should be given more holidays in form of leave or something like that. Instead of running shifts, the banks should rather be operating like offshore companies such that you work for two weeks and rest for the other two weeks, or work for one month and rest for two weeks. This means that the salary would be reduced (to about 50%) because banks would have to employ two employees for the same job position, hence employing about twice what  the industry current does with more time to rest as well. I know alot of employees would go using their off period to do other temporary jobs, hence defeating the whole purpose of giving them the break in the first place.
