wow congratulations to everyone that got their ITA yesterday. i didn't understand the tie break and thought we didn't make it since we opened our profile on the 8th of May with a CRS of 441. I have gained a lot from this trend and i'm hoping to gain more and also help people with my own little knowledge that is growing everyday.

My brother/sister, I've had to Google the topic in the past. The Indians usually use provident funds and are able to access almost all of it, if not all of it ( as read on Canadavisa) but we use pension funds and the law allows you to access 25% when you've been out of a job for 4 months and above.

You will need to read the fine print of your mutual benefits assurance account. We used pension funds too and stanbic wrote the 25% clause in the letter.

Talk to your the person managing your account with them. You should be able to use 100% of your savings with them. But check what your contract with them says. Let the letter they give state that you can withdraw all you have less the some deductions from the interest as usual.

I'm relieved to know its the interest i'll lose if i liquidate before maturity.
I'll speak with my accounts officer because i need to use 100% for this process.

You can use 100% depending on the plan you have with them. If it is the regular savings plan, Mutual Benefit must state that on the letter. They will also make reference to the cash surrender value cos that is what you are entitled to if you are liquidating before maturity. Fret not cos it's only the accrued interest they will deduct from if you want to access the money before maturity. Your premium contribution should be intact. Again, it depends on your plan. Read the T&Cs on your policy doc. Discuss with your account manager to ensure that they write accordingly. Hubby has quite a good sum with them, so we insisted on what we wanted on the letter.

Much as I agree that Nigeria is hard and getting the pof is not easy for most people, I would argue that claiming 100% of the pension funds borders on dishonesty!

The CIC clearly states that it is expected that the funds are readily available to you (and for good reason) and the truth is you really only have access to 25% of the funds.

It is not a matter of "oversabi" it is a matter of speaking the truth.
