As for Olaudah's original village, I personally think it should be found in present day Anioma. Although Catherine Acholonu did a brilliant research to discover his root to present day Ihiala with even family pictures that have close resemblance to him, I still think their might be some chance he's not the 'Isseke' in Ihiala. I'll have to research about the particular locations in Igboland where the Mgburuichi scarification was common. This will easily localize the exact place. Then like other posters have commented, a 12 years old is hardly aware of the politics in his area including the geography. Benin didn't even have political control over all of Anioma talk more of crossing over Niger. |

RedboneSmith: The way Nairalanders and Nigerians in general hold conversations is weird. When did the topic of the conversation shift to whether the area that I come from is 100% Igbo or not? All along we've been talking about Benin, Equiano and the Southeast. I mentioned where I'm from in passing and you shift the topic to my people's identity question? Even after I purposely used the expression "so-called" in an attempt to avoid this derailment and stay on topic?
Weird. Lol. You can save the argument by telling him you're not Igbo. His attack is strictly against Igbos. Igbos give some people nightmares. Delta North remains Igbo territory. Anthropologists are aware of the foray of nearby tribes into the area and today these tribes have been acculturated and it's our desire that we maintain a single identity without recourse to the search for ancestry because some of our own people forayed into the territories of those neighbouring tribes and have been acculturated over there. Let's be proud of our present heritage. Kudos to your responses to that clown. I couldn't have said them better. |

If you take that account plus Equiano’s story it seems very true that Benin Kingdom ruled in southeast Igboland maybe the rule wasn’t very long probably due to Igbo aggressive nature and the land not economically viable unlike the Yorubas that Benin Kingdom ruled for over 700years. Lol. You're a big clown. I guess you're just trolling. |

I've challenged your people to bring proofs of the so called Oyo empire as written by European explorers but non of them showed face. All that's written about the non-existed empire was concocted by Yoruba scholars just to promote your people. Firstly, you never conquered nupe nor the Fons. At present I don't know about the Borgus but I'll research about them soon. How can Yorubas claim that Oyo was an empire when a huge chunk of other Yoruba clans were under the Benin empire. Were the Ondos and Ekitis not under the political influence of Benin? Was Oyo ever politically known in Ondo or even Ijebu? Does the moat in Ijebuland not tell you that they once were affiliated with the Binis? Only the Binis in the whole of Nigeria were known for constructing moats for defensive purpose. That one is found in Ijebuland shows the Binis once had some activity over there. This makes it easier yo understand how the Binis got to Lagos. Yorubas never had kings with the title of Oba but after they heard about the title of the Benin King, they had to copy the title and are even trying to claim it at present. If you don't want me to release more missiles on your empty head, desist from calling Igbos in your discussion on this thread. If you persist, I'll return with bigger guns. |

Osagyefo98 @Gregyboy, the osagyefo you've been quoting is not Igbo but fulani. He always pretend to be Igbo just so he can cause confusion. Do not take anything he writes about Igbos seriously. Now unto the topic of the thread properly, the observation of the OP is somewhat correct. The Edo people have the semblance of both the Igbos and the Yorubas and it can be considered because of the history of the ancient Empire they ruled. While Igbos settled greatly in the eastern flank of the core Edo areas the Yorubas are found on the Western flank. When you see the Esans and the eastern part of the Binis, you see great resemblance with the Igbos.Settlements in present Edo state like Ekpon, Inyelen and a few others show that Igbos truly had flourishing communities closer to the heart of the capital. I believe a good number of the Igbos who today talk about being from Benin actually moved from these areas back into deep parts of Igboland. Most people from Nigeria don't understand how empires operate. I have much respect for the political maturity of the Binis who ruled that empire. They incorporated lots of other tribes into their political control without suppressing their individual identities. Every tribe could contribute to the advancement of the empire and that was why she really grew. Someting drastic happened to Benin that led to a massive emigration of Igbos from the areas they occupied closer to the Edoid people and since then the empire started to decline. The Ezechima story is very credible. The Igbos of his clan moved from the Benin politically control area and moved into the present Anioma area while some crossed the Niger into present Anambra area. Notice that more Igbo clans and towns in Anioma are not descendants of the Ezechima story. This shows that they were originally settled there and a good number of them never had kings until the late 19th century. These clans were not politically under the Benin empire but were heavily influenced by it nontheless. Onitsha is exactly a perfect example. After emigrating out of Benin politically controlled area, passed through the rest of the Anioma territory and settled on the other side of the Niger. They tried to create a system similar to what they learnt from Benin but never had any political connection with Benin again. Other Edoid people fleeing Benin after the empires decline moved out both towards the west and east of the empire. The Edoid(mostly Binis and Esans) migrants settled in mostly Ika and Aniocha parts of Anioma. The Ukwuanis had very little influence from the Binis because they're farther from the centre of the empire than the other Anioma clans. Let me stop here. |

Igbos are the most rational tribe in Nigeria. Igbos are saying treat every tribe fairly and give them equal opportunities to survive, and not just favoring some tribes to the detriment of others, how does that make Igbos bad
Igbos are saying if you want to fight corruption in Nigeria, don't start by killing only corrupt people in Niger Delta or Middle-Belt or Yoruba land or Igbo land or Hausa land or Fulani land, kill them all, don't kill others and spare those from your side.
Igbos are saying, stop attacking only the Ijaw man who once ruled Nigeria saying he destroyed Nigeria, calling him the most corrupt man in Nigeria, when we have more corrupt politicians from other tribes like Bola Tinubu, Rochas Okorocha, Adams Oshiomhole, Ganduje, Orji Kali, Rotimi Amaechi, Fashola, etc....don't be bias, be fair and just to all, that's what Igbos are saying and the only reason they hate Igbos for challenging them and questioning their biasness towards other tribes.
Only cowards and unqualified people are usually scared of fair playing ground because they know that under a fair playing ground, they will not succeed, so they need to cheat, they need to cut corners in order to shine, that's why most tribes hate Igbos. They know that given a fair playing ground for all Nigerians, the Igbos will outshine them, so they want the skewed and destroyed system of things in Nigeria to remain for them to continue to shine.
If Yorubas were reasonable and fair enough in their reasoning, they ought to have thrown their support behind Igbo 2023 Presidency, at least since 1970, Yoruba man has ruled Nigeria twice as Military Head of State and as President. They would have supported Igbos as a way of mending the cracked political relationship between Igbos and Yorubas and watch how Igbos will reciprocate.
But out of selfishness, greed, unreasonable nature and hatred, Yorubas will give 1 billion stupid reasons why 2023 Presidency should be for the Yorubas, honestly, if I were a Yoruba man, I will be blunt to tell my people, we are not being reasonable nor fair at all!!
But will any Yoruba do that Never!!
Let's watch and see You all are wasting your time expecting rationality from people who hate your guts and drive. The moment you realise that some group of people don't feel comfortable with you, it's better you start thinking for yourself alone. This is Nigeria for you. Any new successful Igbo name that makes the news gives some people sleepless nights. This alone should tell you the calibre of people you assume to be your compatriots. |

Tranquill: Why are you masturbating over the decision of the Ikwerre people to tell their story. You tell your history and feel you are also in a position to tell other people there own history as well. The problem most you have is to interpret "I am not Igbo" to mean "I hate Igbos". Go ask your forefathers if and when they have ever regarded Ikwerre as Igbos. Ikwerre people have always had a name that they use in referring to Igbo people because they are not the same.
I posted this link where Bianca Ojukwu's brother also traced his family history to Bini but I noticed you guys are all pretending not to have read it. If that interview was by an Ikwerre person, most of you would have started asking for Bini artifacts and pots in Ngwo. Tell your story and let other people tell their's.
See Ojukwu's brother in law's interview below https://punchng.com/dad-dodged-security-boarded-bus-govt-house-c-c-onohs-son/ Lol... you're so ignorant and yet arrogant. Onoh junior said his family was from Bini, did he say they were bini people? Benin was an ancient empire with lots of tribes as part of it. Therefore that one claims to be from the empire doesn't translate to one being a bini person. This is what majority of you don't know. His ancestors who departed benin if they were non-Igbos could be any of the other tribes that resided in the empire. This is the mistake a lot of people make. Individuals may lose markers of their original place of ancestry but never a whole community of people. Traces will remain to show that they came from another parent body. The Ikwerres I wrote about have no marker connecting them to Benin and so are the Ngwos. Even Igbo clans who call God 'Osebuluwa' which is clearly a derivative of the benin 'Osanobua' still know they're Igbos. They bear names like Osemeke/Osemeka etc. Ikwerres don't call God any name other than Chi-Okike or Chukwu just like the majority of other Igbos. Chukwu is the most widespread name of God among all Igbos from Ika down to Ikwerre. I'll continue to state my points as I'm able to investigate the claims of ancestral origin of Igbo groups. I'll respect their consensus political decision after the referendum. Modified. I read Onoh junior's interview and it was very interesting. I learnt somethings from there and can really see how strong the main Onoh was. You can clearly see that he was never equivocal about his tribe. He clearly identified as Igbo. Stating they were from Benin meant his ancestors were sojourners who were part of the benin empire and successful in their sojourn. Olaudah Equiano of the 18th century said his village was under Benin too yet he said he was 'Onye Eboe' and this was at about the same time the Onohs' ancestor left benin You on the other hand should state your tribe let me know how this topic concerns you. |

How? It's good that you asked a question at the end of your post. EYN is the largest church in the whole NE. Most northern minority Christians worship in churches set up by the immediate European missionaries they worked with. The three biggest of such churches are EYN(Ekklesi'an yanuwar), ECWA(Evangelical Church of West Africa) and COCIN(Church Of Christ In Nigeria). These churches have large followership and they conduct services in Hausa language for those minority tribes hence hausa permeated all over there territories. This is also a reason why they bear a lot of Hausa names. |

YakubuAugust: Interesting take You can make your research on what I wrote here. Every contact with an empire surely leaves traces. Even the Igalas contact with old Benin has proofs. The Agaba-Idu, Attah of Igala wears a benin bronze sculpture on his neck till date. Notice the word 'Idu' in his praise name. I'll like to know the meaning of 'Agaba' in Igala language. In Lagos state, the presence of Idu confirms the benin influence too. Idumota, Idumagbo etc. As for Ikwerres, no single shared word with bini. Let me tell you another lexicon that shows cultural influence. In Igbo language, there are two words to refer a warrior or strong man. These words are Odogwu and Dike. Most Igbos in the northern and western parts of Igboland easily use 'Odogwu' while the eastern and southern parts use 'Dike'. The Ikwerres who are in the southernmost part use 'Dike'. Odogwu is not part of their dialectical usage. This is another pointer that they've never had contact with the binis. There are too many pointers to ridicule any of their claim of bini as a place of origin. |

Meanwhile, he needs to abolish the rule that says a Queen cannot remarry. His mum should be allowed to remarry if she chooses to rather than...killing goats every time
No one should tell me about one archaic tradition o. If a King can have as many wives as he wants and even remarry after the death of one or all, then, the same tradition or deity should be kind enough to allow the Queens remarry too after the King's demise.
Thank you!!! Lol. That will be tough nut to crack. The queen remarrying is interpreted as an insult to the memory of the departed King. Even if she's allowed to do so, she has to drop the royalty automatically. I doubt she'd like this either. So killing goats will continue indefinitely. Kingship is a very technical position. Power is very essential if you want to be relevant. Power vacuum is very dangerous for any royalty. If she was strong enough to have jumped into the shoes of her husband immediately after his death, she could have held the throne for her son and enjoyed herself without having to apologise to anyone. Since she couldn't do so for any reason, we'd have to budget for the goats. Nne-Obi is a human too. |

Lol. All the agents of division he'll bent on stirring dissension among Igbo clans will hear from us in due time. Let them bear it in mind clearly. As for the Ikwerre question on their origin, there's no single fact connecting them to the bini people. While some present Igbo clans have traces showing their presence in 'Idu', Ikwerre people have nothing to show to that effect. Onitsha people style of building in the 19th century closely resembles that prevalent in Idu. That's a very strong marker to prove their migration. Still their origin/ancestry can't be proven to be bini. Old Benin empire which Igbo clans call 'Idu' was very cosmopolitan. The Igbos(some clans), Urhobos, Isokos, Itsekiris, Ijaws, Esans, Afenmais, Akokos and Yorubas(some clans) were part of it. The Edoid languages who left/broke away from the empire still retained traces of the original bini language and culture. Among these group are the Esans, Afenmais, Urhobos, Isokos and Akokos. Any smaller language which uses the word 'omo' for child is edoid. The Yorubas use of 'omo' doesn't fall into this category because the language is big enough to be a parent language. Notice that the only two Yoruboid languages being Itsekiri and Igala use 'oma' instead of 'omo' for a child. Another strong marker for the original edoid groups are the presence of the diphthong 'vb' in their words. All the other languages in the old empire were just contributory to the success of the ancient empire. When Ezechima and his entourage left Idu, they went towards their place of origin which is Igboland and so was all other Igbo clans who had provable markers of migration from Benin. The Ikwerres have nothing to prove theirs. Not a language, culture, tradition, arts and craft, religion, or even architecture. Where's a single hint to suggest such? Their closest neighbours- the Etches are the custodians of the famous Igbo god of Thunder, Amadioha. No Igbo clans bear the surname 'Amadi' more than the Etches and Ikwerres. I clearly see the Ikwerres for who they are but will respect their choice after the Biafran referendum. Until then, I'll put up with any shenanigans from people claiming to be Ikwerres here on nairaland. We're smarter than our enemies. NB: I've met with Ikwerres who reject being Igbos. All of them have Igbo names still and easily get angry when you discuss the topic with them which shows that there's something uncomfortable to them about the topic. |

dogmax: Nnamdi Kanu God will not forgive you for this brain damage on my beloved Igbo brothers just because you are looking for food to eat which solely depend on their contribution. You OP will die like a dog for seeking the failure of the noble cause of Biafra. Nnamdi Kanu has not killed any of your family or tribal member so why the hate? Majority of Igbos have rejected Nigeria and they've shown it whole heartedly to the world. From all continents they've lifted up the Biafran flag proudly. What can you little devils do? We're just waiting for the right time before judgement will be brought against Nigeria. You OP is shameless. Poverty is ravaging you yet all you think of how to stop Biafra. Meanwhile, descendants of raiders from Futa Djallon are enjoying the riches you're suppose to partake from but you've been left to do the dirty job for them. You'll just die for nothing if you persist in attacking those who have no business with you. |

selemempe: the op is a yoruba man. His plan is to make ikwere and igbos to fight You're very correct. The mind of an average Yoruba is filled with discord. He lives by causing confusion and division among people. I've tried so well to understand why they think like this but can't seem to get any justification. My conclusion is that they so fear Igbos that they always wish to weaken us by seeking the denial and /or infighting among Igbo clans. Whatever the case, some of us are cooking the same soup for them. |

clarocuzioo: I told somebody this last year, that Amaechi is APC's best option in the south. He is their best shot.
AMAECHI PRESIDENCY:
First he will pacify the Niger Delta region who feel cheated and humiliated with the way their son, Goodluck Jonathan was booted out, especially as they are technically feeding the whole Nation through oil.
Secondly, they will use him to also say Igbos have been given Presidency. That will also quench fire in certain quarters. South East and South South will support Amaechi Presidency.
Amaechi is a Christian, so it will be easy to balance power with a northern Muslim, the likes of El-Rufai, Ganduje or any other northern Muslim will easily fit in. This is even the major challenge of Tinubu presidency, who will be Tinubu's VP.
Amaechi is in the good books of the cabal as he technically bank rolled Buhari's election. Lol. The way you guys overestimate yourselves is just too ridiculous. See the permutation you're doing and the rubbish you're uttering. Anyway you can think, plot and write whatever you like. The reality is that Nigeria is dead and Igbos won't remain in it. No Igbo man thinks about being the President of a rotten entity. We have our plans well cut out already. |

Bulleye: On 4 June 1994, in one of many similar broadcasts on Radio-Te´le´vision Libre des Mille Collines (RTLM), Kantano Habimana called for 100,000 young men to be ‘‘recruited rapidly’’, who should all stand up so that we will kill the Inkotanyi and exterminate them … [T]he reason that we will exterminate them is that they belong to one ethnic group. Look at the person’s height and his physical appearance. Just look at his small nose and then break it.7 Incitement such as this spurred on the massacres which made up the Rwandan genocide of 1994. Its effectiveness is evidenced in the testimony of a former ge´nocidaire
In 1920, thirteen years before Hitler came to power in Germany, the so-called Protocols of the Elders of Zion was published in Germany for the first time, amidst a flurry of other anti-Semitic writings. They purportedly consisted of the minutes of a fabricated meeting of Jewish elders in Berne in 1897, and contained allegations of a Jewish conspiracy to rule the world and enslave Christians.1 Viciously anti-Semitic, by 1933 they had gone through thirty-three editions.
They kept saying Tutsis were cockroaches. Because they had given up on them we started working and killed them.
Inchoate crimes The word ‘‘inchoate’’ denotes something that has ‘‘just begun’’ or is ‘‘under- developed’’,9 ‘‘partially completed’’ or ‘‘imperfectly formed’’.10 Inchoate offences are thus incomplete offences, which are deemed to have been committed despite the fact that the substantive offence, that is, the offence whose commission they were aiming at, is not completed and the intended harm is not realized. Black’s Law Dictionary describes such an offence as ‘‘A step toward the commission of another crime, the step in itself being serious enough to merit punishment’’.11 In English common law there are three general inchoate offences: attempt, conspiracy and incitement (or solicitation in US law). All of them may incur criminal liability even though the crime they were intended to bring about does not materialize.12 In the case of incitement, the crime is completed despite the fact that the person incited fails to commit the act to which he or she has been incited
Incitement in international law Nuremberg: Streicher, Fritzsche Incitement to genocide first became a crime under international law when the International Military Tribunal (IMT) at Nuremberg passed judgment on the accused Julius Streicher and Hans Fritzsche in 1946. While the term ‘‘incitement to genocide’’ was not yet known as such and the accused were instead charged with crimes against humanity, this charge was based on acts which would today fall within the definition of incitement to genocide. Both Streicher and Fritzsche were furthermore charged with crimes against peace, and Fritzsche with war crimes. Julius Streicher was the founder and editor of the anti-Semitic weekly magazine Der Stu¨rmer, the aim of which, according to Streicher himself, was to ‘‘unite Germans and to awaken them against Jewish influence which might ruin our noble culture’’.24 In its judgment, the IMT described how in leading articles and letters, some of them written by Streicher himself, Jewish people were depicted as ‘‘a parasite, an enemy, and an evil-doer, a disseminator of diseases’’ or ‘‘swarms of locusts which must be exterminated completely’’.25 The Tribunal found that by means of such hate propaganda, Streicher ‘‘incited the German people to active persecution’’,26 as well as to ‘‘murder and extermination’’, acts which in the IMT’s view represented a crime against humanity,27 of which Streicher was convicted and was sentenced to death by hanging.
The above quotations were taken from Incitement in international criminal law by Wibke Kristin Timmermann. The essence of the quotations above is to draw attention to Nnamdi Kanu's activities as running foul of international law. And as a result Nnamdi Kanu can be treated as a war criminal.
It is wrong for Ndigbo to sit by and watch as Nnamdi Kanu and his criminal group, Ipob, tags all Nigerians as living in a zoo. Invariably all other Nigerians apart from Ndigbo are animals. Is it not animals that are kept in a zoo? Posterity will judge Indigbo on their silence while Ipob designate all Nigerians apart from Biafrans as animals living in a zoo.
We can all recall Ndigbo attack on rant hq when some Igbo people in the group were called senseless during argument. All Ndigbo rose up against rant hq.
As Nnamdi Kanu is Calling all Nigerians except Indigbo as animals living in a zoo, what do Ndigbo think Nigerians should do to them for giving him support? You can do whatever you can to 'indigbo'. Meanwhile, what should be done to fulanis who have killed thousands of Nigerians? If you don't answer this question, may sango kill you. |
