Trust Nigerians to lift Alex Tew's idea. |
skima:My point exactly. Skima, you're a guru -- could I discuss something with you? I'm restructuring something I wrote and need help with code architecture. |

2cantango:Of course not. Lauryn and I'll stick together through thick and thin. We're still getting to know each other . |
lauryn:You know |
I'm only demanding what's due . |

lauryn:Don't tell me it'll end before it even begins. I haven't even felt up the goods. |
goodguy:Exactly. That's my bone of contention with their equal rights movement. I'm totaly for equal rights. How many women get in the electric chair or recieve a 20-year sentence? Many a politician's career would be doomed if that happened. |
2cantango:Bless you 2c. ![]() |
lauryn:Lauryn sweetie, it's omogenaija's fault -- she thinks I'm single. 2c and I are just friends. A lady who'll do plastic surgery at my bidding -- what more could a guy want? ![]() |
Hi 2c. I haven't been following things [because I saw a lot of CyberLove on this thread]. Who's the lucky guy? |
Hi Lauryn, hi ladies and zentlemen.
svs, you are no more single ohhhhhh! My work is done. Cyberp and svs
Now it's time to turn the torture stick on J-Girl. Her own matching is going to be by force! |
funloving:Very untrue. When it's something like murder or pedophilia, women get reduced sentences - especially when they're good-looking. funloving:There's a glass ceiling in almost every workplace beyond which most women fail to rise because of male bias. funloving:Only in professions that objectify women -- examples are modelling and pornography. |
Even though I have been a nairaland member for less than 48 hours, I have spent lots of time reading a lot of discussions, and I think for now I would really like to meet Seun -- You talk on almost every subject, so there is definitely going to be a lot to talk about. I will also like to pick your brain a lil because sometimes we have conflicting ideas that can start a very interesting conversation. I also have this weird feeling u are the moderator.
He's the administrator - owner of Nairaland. |
Here's part of a presentation I made in class last semester. As always, I advocate gender equality: Since time immemorial, women have lived in a world in which what they should or shouldn’t do have been dictated by men. In as male-dominated a society as this, it is not surprising that women have had little or no say in matters that concern them, until fairly recently – even then women are still a long way off from the goal of achieving equality with their male counterparts in every walk of life. The situation can be explained by men feeling threatened by the incursion of women into areas previously designated as ‘men-only.’ Traditionally, women were fit for only child-bearing, preening themselves for men’s appreciation and housework – ‘jobs’ that men look down on as being below their dignity to perform. It can be seen that men’s discomfort arises from women refusing to play the roles men have decided on for them. It is my belief that men and women should be raised equally, with no discrimination against either sex. It would have been very dubious for certain norms to exist, had the world not been viewed through male-biased lenses. A man is considered a ‘stud’ when he sleeps with many women but a woman is considered a LovePeddler if the roles are reversed. A woman is perceived to be very proud and rude if she is dominant and assertive but such attitudes are encouraged in men. Until recent times, victims of rape have found themselves stigmatized because of the male tendency to shift the blame, and most women find that they cannot rise above the so-called ‘glass ceiling’ in their workplaces. I believe the world would be a better place if men took on some roles women play and vice versa. |
anton:Thanks a lot. I got most of what I needed from MIT OpenCourseWare. |
Seun:There's no harm in trying out new things -- who knows if in future online transactions will be the most important thing? I'm not saying Google ought to try out everything but it doesn't hurt to try out some. When you've got the money, why not use it for R & D? |
Jalal:The url is http://www.africanvibes.com/. I was told I'd be recruited for the magazine but I haven't heard anything -- assuming the lady supposedly from there on the board is genuine. |
Rhodalyn:I know you're talking about The Pornographer's Grief. It's by a psychiatrist who helps people with their sexual problems which are often rooted in childhood and family experiences. The title is only catchy - don't worry, I'm still good old Zah . |
Rhodalyn:Hey Rhod. What's wrong? |
Just finished: The Pornographer's Grief - Joseph Glenmullen MD. Now reading: OpenGL Programming Guide -- D Shreiner et al. |
I do have some reservations about that Emeagwali guy. I heard a story about George Bush saying Emeagwali was the Bill Gates of Africa. Emeagwali retorted that he was better than Bill Gates, since Bill Gates was 'just a businessman.' * Back to the topic. Shango, my Dad's an engineer too, and does he hate that title when it's used before his name! * I don't know if this is true -- before I get flamed! |
You're a GodSend Anton. ![]() |

Perfect -- absolutely perfect. Now aint that younger sister sweet? |
Seun:Interesting. Before Google jumps into any market I'd assume they've studied it from all angles. Yahoo, Ask, Alexis and MSN are all portals with distracting content on their home pages -- Google went for the searchbox and logo-only design, and it worked. Today they're more than twice as big as their nearest rival -- Yahoo. Yahoo Mail, MSN Mail / Hotmail, and most other free e-mail services required signups -- Google used the invite method, offered 2GB of space, used AJAX, and the free email service has never been the same again. Yahoo 360, MSN Spaces and most other e-journal services display ads on your page and make money from you but Google allows you to display their ads on Blogger -- and pays you! I think it's because of Google more people are turning towards professional blogging to make money. MapQuest and Expedia have been around for a while but I'm beginning to trust Google Maps more. Why? Because they're more accurate -- here in the US, MapQuest and Expedia sometimes give wrong directions! I think the unconventional approach Google takes to everything is what makes them such a success. If they were to follow the exact steps you advocate, they'd be just another EBay and GCheckout would be just another Paypal [which Ebay owns]. You can trust Google to find a way to make money from it without displaying ads. |
Than k you mrmayor. I believe in understanding the other side's viewpoint before condemnation. Some people have no idea what goes on in ECK and they outrightly condemn hem. Others have never seen any Rosicrucian and say, 'I hate AMORC.' I'm not supporting any of these organizations, but I have been reading for years and I have had many of my questions answered, either from books or from members who are in a better position to tell me. It is from these first-hand experiences that I form my views about the various organizations or schools of thought. |
This is quite hilarious. Where did you get it from Seun? ![]() |
diddy4:The last time I checked, Google's market capitalization was $118.32 billion (source: Wikipedia) up from 2005's $80 (source: InsideGoogle), so it's big enough to take on others. |
