As the continued detention of Abdulhameed, a social media user from Kogi Central, stirs controversy across the state and beyond, authoritative sources within the state government have clarified that the Kogi State Accountant-General, Hajia Habibat Tijjani Aliyu, is not responsible for his prolonged custody.

An insider within the government, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to lack of authorization to speak officially on the matter, told Metro Daily that Abdulhameed’s arrest was legally sanctioned by the state government following a series of unsubstantiated allegations he made online against key government officials.

“At the height of Abdulhameed’s campaign of misinformation and personal attacks on government officials, the Kogi State Government, in accordance with legal provisions, directed law enforcement agencies to investigate his claims,” the source said. “The goal was to determine whether there was credible evidence backing his allegations.”

The source emphasized that Abdulhameed’s case is not without precedent. He drew parallels to a previous case involving Usman Okai, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who faced similar legal action after spreading what was later found to be false information about the government’s fiscal policies.

“When Okai circulated misleading statistics and was unable to substantiate his claims, he was remanded at the Kabba Correctional Centre,” the insider recalled. “It took the intervention of political leaders from Kogi East, including former governors Idris Wada and Ibrahim Idris, and PDP chieftain Engr. Musa Wada, to secure his release. They issued a formal undertaking assuring that Okai would henceforth engage in constructive and fact-based criticism.”

He added that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo maintains a non-discriminatory leadership style, insisting on equal treatment regardless of political or regional affiliation.

“Governor Ododo is not a sectional leader,” the source emphasized. “The same approach used by Kogi East leaders to resolve Okai’s issue should be considered in Abdulhameed’s case, as both individuals are accused of making baseless allegations against the government.”

The source also criticized what he described as unproductive social media agitation, urging concerned stakeholders including Abdulhameed’s family members, local government leaders, and representatives from his senatorial district to explore legal avenues such as plea bargaining to resolve the matter.

“Courtrooms are guided by evidence and legal processes, not social media noise,” he stated. “Relevant stakeholders should engage the appropriate channels to bring the matter to a dignified and lawful close.”

Meanwhile, Metro Daily has gathered that within some government circles, recent public comments by Dr. Abdullahi Sanni Ozomata on the matter have been viewed as politically motivated and self-serving.

According to a senior official who preferred not to be named, “Rather than offering solutions or engaging legal channels to assist Abdulhameed, Dr. Ozomata appears more interested in scoring political points and settling personal scores within the same government he belongs to.”

"Has Dr Ozomata exhausted all necessary avenue to resolve the issue within the government circle before going for public shows? Why can't he advise the family or acquaintance of the boy to tow the line of plea bargain instead of making obvious attempts to score cheap political points", he asked.

As Abdulhameed remains in custody, the controversy continues to attract attention, raising broader questions about the boundaries of free expression, the rule of law, and the ethics of digital activism in a politically charged environment.

I have decided to rant out my predicaments on this forum today.

What is the way out of poverty for me?

One inlaw is even living with us, making it 8 in number, all in one room.

This thing don come big pass me.

I know most of you here would blame me for impregnating a woman to give birth to that number of children but then, life is life. It happens like that sometimes.

They say a poor man's prayer is "e go better" but instead of things to get better in Nigeria, everyday things get worse.

Truth is, except I drive myself out of this mess to a better life for me and my children, this poverty that is so stricken will likely be extended to my children, which I really don't want.

No two ways about it except ...

But like a car without tyres, can it move even if it has fuel? Definitely no.

For 4 days now, I sleep outside in an abandoned car because of financial war at home. I can't go back home and I even feel like never to go back there but should I abandon them like that and run away? To where?

When I went to the market the other day with 5k to buy food items for the house, I was crying and talking to myself on my way back because I came back with almost nothing.

Nigeria have succeed to plug life out of poor Nigerians. The poor cannot breathe again. Let's die and go.

Advice: never give birth when you are not financially strong. Unfortunately, I've learned my lesson the hard way.

Life happens.

When people are complaining about hardship in this country, don't put mouth because you brought incurable poverty upon yourself. How could you produce such number of children with meager income with the hope that "e go better". There is another function your manhood should perform aside sex. If you don't train those children very well, they will become a threat to your life. You did wrong for manufacturing children without a deep thoughts on your financial capabilities.

As the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) embarks on nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise, the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Yakubu Oseni has once again called on his constituents and Nigerians as a whole to register in their respective wards in order to have their voices aired and heard.

FMC scuffle : Kogi State Government reacts

The attention of the Kogi State Government has been drawn to the unfortunate scuffle between the Staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja and some patients’ relatives at the hospital, this morning.

Preliminary findings revealed that the violence ensued when relations of patients in the medical facility protested against the failure of the management of the hospital to attend to them.

Many people in the Emergency Ward were left unattended to and a mother delivered at the gate of the hospital. That generated a lot of public tension in the State.

Tension started building since yesterday when patients and their relatives learnt of a plan by the medical staff to stage a protest today, seeking protection from Covid-19.

We urge the people of the State to remain calm as Government will ensure maintenance of law and order.

We also sue for calm and urge medical authorities to remain committed to their medical profession and responsibilities as Government will protect them in order to give them the confidence to deliver. Healthcare management must never be politicized.

Also, Government will carry out further investigations to ascertain the remote causes of the breach of peace by the protesters and also address their fears.

The Kogi State Government will also make the State-owned Specialist Hospital available to patients in critical condition and who are denied medical attention by the authorities of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
