PoliticsRe: Abuja's Poor Lighting: What Buhari, Bello, FCTA Must Know by zanshi: 5:18pm On Aug 03, 2021
Beancounter94:
More like FCT does not have enough money, and there is looting too.

FCT used to raise money from parking meters to supplement its income some 8 years ago, until someone got a court order to stop it.

Also, we don't pay something called a council tax. Many cities in the UK...residents pay something called a council tax which can be as high as 85,000 to 100000 naira. (I know, Nigeria cannot be compared to the UK eh, we are poor)...but that money goes into providing essential services such as street light, transport, etc.

The oyel money that we all rely on is not enough for all of us. Which is why you that is shouting Hausas and Fulani...is your state capital well lit all over? The reason is simple...there isn't enough money to do the job.(apart from Lagos maybe, and even Lag is not well lit all over). Because your tax to gdp ratio is too low and because the oil price has not been high enough to sustain us for nearly 9 years, if not longer.

States and the FCT need to be innovative in raising money not just for streetlights , but for public services, especially in the cities. And Nigerians too need to put pressure on their leaders to make sure the money is used well to ensure that their cities are run well.(The court case I referred to earlier may have stopped corruption in the parking meter system, but then it also threw out the baby with the bathwater)

(This is not a supporting Buhari message...personally, I think the minister of FCT should be more of a professional than a polticial somebodi. APC continued with the same old same old.Ironically, the last really good FCT minister we had was El-Rufai.)
FCT does have the money, but a city cannot survive on "Political patronage" no industries, no major manufacturing and you expect to have a burgeoing city that would function optimally. I use to think El-Rufai was this shit, he just had unfettered access to Abuja's purse to do as he pleases and embark on white elephant projects without scrutiny.

It is one thing to want infrastructure to support the economy and it's another thing to maintain it. When Ambode resumed office in 2015, almost all the street lights on our highways were illuminated with street lights, few years later Apapa Oshodi expressway i passed days ago doesn't have street lights. This is a road that leads to the port.

Nigerian men are afraid of flashing bar to a woman that may jilt them, walk away for any flimsy reason considering how much you may have done for her.

CareerHow Do You Think Young People Can Network Better? by zanshi(op): 11:07pm On Jul 30, 2021
One thing they never told us back in Uni was how to maximise networking well enough in our social circle for career advancement, Ahmadu Bello University amongst a few, seems to be only higher level institution in my opinion that has utilized career networking to the fullest , ensuring every ex student of theirs is pushed to the top of their careers. You see them everywhere from ex ministers to governors to directors in federal government parastalls. That is to say, there must be something aside academia that is being instilled in Ahmadu Bello University students that makes them strive for excellence outside the four walls of the university.

I would like to trim my focus of Gen-Z and Millennials as to how we can do better in this regard. I went to a good private school both for High school and University, and i can tell you for a fact that i only maintain decent relationship with a few of my ex classmates and this is partly because some silly reasons some still hold dear to their hearts, ego, malice to name a few. Even when i was in high school i never got along with all of my classmate even though i feel some of them behave obnoxious, silly and arrogant. University wasn't any different a lot of boys in my class never really mingled with any of our classmates even when i reach out to some of my friends and ask if they heard from any of our ex classmates, they say aside from me, they haven't heard from anyone else. I have also tried reaching to classmates i haven't heard from and the experience left a sour taste in my mouth because some of them feel you are practically doing too much. While this are situations that i have experienced, this is not far fetched from what a lot of my friends in my circle have experienced too.

One important lesson i learnt from networking with people is that it can plug you into a plethora of opportunities you may never have taught of. I made my first million supplying Agro allied by reaching out to someone who kept telling me "NO" more than 3 times and when i wen to him the fourth, he taught to the A to Z of the trade. A friend of my dad who worked in cooperate finance as a mid level staff got to work with people installing mast in eastern Nigeria by just reaching out to a friend back in high school, today as i speak, he got built his mansion under 3 months which was worth about N70m. I

Opportunities abound around us dear young people, but if we can put ego aside and be willing to work as part of something that brings value, regardless of whether we get credit for it or not. One other lesson young should also try and imbibe is that we may at certain point in our lives drop the "Solo" mentality of me doing it by myself and no help needed and be willing to join forces to bring a business or idea to life. Financing a business these days is tough work, and we should be willing to join our resources with others to bring a business into life. A lot of young people also need to create the "atmosphere to be accessible", the wrong attitude can fend people off of your because they may find your attitude too toxic for them.

With the present state of this country, people are suffering, many are depressed, things are not going well. U might not know what your friends, family or neighbours are going through.just try and call them, talk to them it helps alot.
While i think this is a right way to go, one of my problems with reaching out to people is that sometimes they think you are doing too much when you try to reach out.

I tried reaching out to one of my female friends in Uni who was ill, and for some funny reasons she told me she was ill but i tried calling days after she wouldn't pick my phone and reply my mssg on Whatsapp.

Na so i dey my dey.
BusinessRe: Naira Now 525 Just Another Devaluation Tactics By CBN And IMF by zanshi: 2:23am On Jul 29, 2021
While i understand that the govt of Emefiele must have messed up in the past, govt selling USD and other foreign currencies to the banks is the right way to go. As much as i don't 100% like Buhari the disaster towards the tail end of Goodluck election campaign and the fear that was in the atmosphere caused all this crisis. The Apex bank hurriedly devalued the Naira without communicating economic policies with people.

We are loosing so much forex to these BDC, so many folks like my self in previous discourse on Nairaland and other social media platforms have called for the outright ban of the sale of foreign currencies to BDC and such sales should be funneled to banks.

The Apex bank should also work with the media to douse the polity so we can have a bit of stability we enjoyed 2017-2018 in the Nigerian economy.

D bdcs fulfill gaps cbn does not even try to fill. What percentage of form M request does CBN fulfill and how long does it take?

They are just setting the country in for more inflation and more margins middlemen because bdcs that know their way will keep getting it.

D issue is bringing in forex and cbn has been the one discouraging inflows witg erratic policies that changes every week
It is not CBN's responsibilty to do this but the Banks

And it is the same Banks who are sabotaging the economy by feigning scarcity and going ahead to sell at the backdoor at the highsest bidder

I wanted to buy something at Yaba few weeks ago, an the shop owner told me high dollar rate is killing his business, i asked him how?

He said: "People sell dollar for 495-500, but go to banks they will tell you $540 something slighly more or less sometimes.

Do you know that some DISCOS and industries are now asking you pay them in dollars? And you know how much pressure that puts on the Naira alone.

The Naira was slightly stable around 2015 but the fear that Buhari was going to destroy things made people sell their N for $ to hedge against any kind of impending loss.

I even suggest Emefiele resigns so we can have someone with clarity lead the Apex bank.

Emefiele is confused, was it now him who sold BDC license to House of rep members as hush contract?

Not he has ordered the suspension of BDC sale?
PoliticsRe: FG To End ₦30 Billion Monthly Electricity Subsidy Next Year — Osinbajo by zanshi: 2:55pm On Jul 27, 2021
Beancounter94:
In my (poor opinion) most African countries don't try to do what we do...give everyone, villager and city dweller power....thus overstretching their grid. (Cameroon still has some parts of the country that are not connected to any grid anywhere.)

Also, some African countries pay more per kwh of power than we do eg Ghana. (The subsidy they want to remove is supposed to cover the losses the DISCOS incur in selling power at a low price...but due to rising costs, it cannot adequately cover all losses)
My take on all of these is that, the DISCO's don't want to put their money where their mouth is. If you bought a privatized power generating licensece or company from the goverment, you have to be able to make long term investment to gurantee stability, trust and reliabilty from subscribers. They probably thought this was some rent seeking arrangement where the monies gotten from subscribers would generate them profit and in turn help them make some smoke screen investment here and there. Also, electricity subscribers shouldn't be pushed to the wall with the excuse of increased tarrifs every year. Since 2015 when this government resumed office, there has been an increase in cost of kw/h. While i understand that this increases have to reflect operating cost, they also have to be reflective on year on year investment on the side of the DISCOS. To summarise, Nigerians should not be taken for granted.

Houses in Egbeda shouldn't be more than #350-#400k in my opinion because if you work in Island or even central mainland before you get off into the highway time don fly

Same with Ikorodu sef.
PropertiesRe: Updated Cost Of Renting A 3 Bedroom Apartment In Lagos by zanshi: 9:28pm On Jul 25, 2021
Plus housing in Lagos needs to be regulated a lot of people just charge based on what other houses are charging even though their houses may not match up to what a standard house should be.
PropertiesRe: Updated Cost Of Renting A 3 Bedroom Apartment In Lagos by zanshi: 9:25pm On Jul 25, 2021
You know what sucks paying this amount of money and still paying other lawyer and agent fees along with it.

Why cant people just walk up to a Landlord and show them your paystub and pay the exact fees eliminating all those useless fees that accompany it?

Are there even enough opportunities to commensurate the amount paid on rent?

My Grandad owns houses in Gbagada and could remeber when he broker with the prospective tenant of 100k for 3bedroom flat in his duplex, now even though we charge a fair price of #400k for it

Some hosues down the street are charging #800k and #1m

If Tinubu had been like Lateef Jakande and built a lot of mass housing people won't be complaining about issues like this.
