Education / Re: Why The Discrimination Between Hnd Holders And Bsc Holders by zebra(m): 6:32pm On Oct 05, 2014
I still maintain that HND holders are technically and theoretically better than Bsc holders. HND holders sit and write exams for some of them, HND holders do practical and theoretical projects for them, HND holders lecture them in tutorials and other professional exams (i'm a living witness to these). Why then the feelings that the HND is lower than the Bsc?
Education / Re: Can Cramming Affect One's Performance After School? by zebra(m): 6:20pm On Oct 04, 2014
It depends on the course. If u're doing maths or stats there are some proofs that need to be crammed. No matter how hard u try to understand them they are always difficult to grab probably because of limited time.

statisticians are employed mostly to provide statistical support in research. They work in banks and all types of industries. I worked in d bank but not in the capacity of a statistician. Banks employ graduates from all manner of disciplines to work for them to just achieve good profit.

and he is not saying the truth! I just checked those courses and they looked like specialization courses for Agric Engineering! If i hear say someone did it in 200 level. 200level includes courses in 'General Engineering' picked from various departments and offered by every Engineering student in 200level - that's what you guys did in ND1.....perhaps. It's in 300l that the students go different ways and concentrate on their departments - And that's what that guy is doing in ND2.

All uni graduates on thread, sorry for busting your bubbles. I'm just a person who doesn't try to peddle lies just to support what's mine. I support how things should be done! It doesn't matter if I'm even on the other side.

====>I just had to come back to this thread grin grin grin grin.....Just to catch any uni student that tries to lie! grin grin grin grin grin. I'm supporting Poly graduates! #TeamPolyIsEquivalent tongue tongue tongue

ND2 is 200 levels in d polytechnic system. I did linear algebra in ND2 in poly and in d university i also did it in 200 levels. I did math mthds I in ND2 and also did same mth mthds I in 200 levels in the uni.

First and foremost, Technologists do not work on field. Electricians and Technicians are not suppose to wire a house. Their job is to repair a damaged house wiring.

And the reason for specialization is just to aid Division of Labour and not for you to forget everyother thing! It's not a 'jack of all trade' bull, that's the right thing. What they call 'jack of all trade' is if I start to go and learn trade or one unrelated stuff with Engineering.

And you seem to concentrate on just ND students. We may spend 5 years in a Nigerian university, but HND holders also spent 4 years. 4 years is what Engineering takes normally. Nigerian universities just use first year to review secondary school subjects (yea, everything I did in 100l, I've already been taught in Secondary school) and to also drop students after the first year. Engineering starts in 200l in a Nigerian university, while it starts from ND1 in a Nigerian Polytechnic. So you are saying they were teaching them basics from ND1 to HND2 (4years)? seems you don't know what you are saying again.

It's just discrimination and stupi/d ego. Just like Nigerian Doctors have with other professionals in medicine. FINISH!
Thanx for this truth.

@ayobase: Universities in Nigeria train engineers while polytechnics train engineering technologists. The mandate of universities in Nigeria is to train engineers and not engineering technologists. Pls.

Federal University of TECHNOLOGY is am ENGINEERING school aight?

And do u know that Technology is embedded in Engineering. Broad it is!

Maybe I should ask u question...are u implying that the Engineering students do no practical at all or how?

I still don't know what a Technologist, technician or electrician could do that an Engineer wouldn't be able to or not having idea of.

Only Electrical/Electronics Engineering has Power, Control, Electronics, and Comminication embedded. And what do u expect of such an Engineer.

What do u make out of our Swep I, Swep 2 and SIWES. Play?

Mechanical Engineering has its branches also, so also CHemical, Civil and the likes!

5yrs in University for a particular course. Do u really think it worth it to compare an OND holder, even HND holder!
U're still missing the point. Ur swep and siwes are to ensure u get practical training on design and not practical training on implementation of designs. U're not trained to operate machines and handle tools, the ND and HND holders are trained for that. Pls use google to see the difference btw engineering and engineering technology. Nawa o, another different argument again.

I'm disappointed in you. Sorry to say.

U accepted the fact that an ideal HND holders is better than ideal B.Eng holder in terms of practical?
Pls donot be disappointed in me yet. The poly HND guys are technologist (applied engineers) while the BEng guys are engineers (theoretical engineers or designers), how then do u expect the technologists not to be better than the engineers in hands-on practical work? Like some of u have agreed before, technologists are trained to work with their hands while also using their brains, while engineers use their brains to work on designs. Why then do u expect them not to be good on what they are trained on? What i know is that the university engineering guys do more maths courses than the poly guys, that's one of the major differences btw them. U can google to see the difference btw engineering and engineering technology urself.
Education / Re: Hnd Is Equivalent To A Bsc by zebra(m): 7:05pm On Jan 01, 2014
It's not too stressful to get a Bsc compared to HND in Nigeria. U always have less courses to do in d uni, especially in d final year compared to the polytechnics in Nigeria. Why? I'm talking from experience. I did 8 courses plus project in my HND final semester, while i did only 4 courses plus project in my Bsc final semester. Can someone else also confirm this?

Education / Re: Hnd Is Equivalent To A Bsc by zebra(m): 11:19am On Jan 01, 2014
A lot of people today do not want polytechnic education not because it's not good, but because of the discrimination against it by university graduates. The main question is why are the university graduates always afraid of the polytechnic graduates? Where are they always quick to say that poly HND is not equivalent to a Degree, even when it was meant to be so? Why are poly HND graduates who are given the opportunity to compete with Degree holders always meet expectations of doing well? Why is it that Nigerian HND holders who are doing Masters programs in some foreign countries with their Nigerian Bsc holders are also doing well and coping with the programs?
