abbey621:I am done talking to you. This debate is not intellectually stimulating for me. You just said the US is not a major oil producing nation? really? You refuse to answer my questions. You are not willing to learn. You just want to argue back and forth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_oil_production. They are number 3 in the world. Close to 8 billion barrels per day. If you live in the US as you claim. Go see the oil rigs in Houston, Go see the oil rigs in Louisiana, Go to California, Read up on Oklahoma. Read up about the Gulf of Mexico. Houston TX is the Oil/energy capital of the World. abbey621:A tax may be defined as a "pecuniary burden laid upon individuals or property owners to support the government [, ] a payment exacted by legislative authority. What is fuel subsidy removal? abbey621:You need to read this Why is gas in the US so cheap http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/01/news/international/usgas_price/ Gas price: It's all about government policy. Gasoline costs roughly the same to make no matter where in the world it's produced, according to John Felmy, chief economist for the American Petroleum Institute. The difference in retail costs, he said, is that some governments subsidize gas while others tax it heavily. The United States has always fought to keep gas prices low Why the IMF and UN wants us to end our subsidies. Subsidies, many analysts say, are encouraging rampant demand in these countries, pushing up the price of oil worldwide. My job is done here. |
Beaf:Beaf I have a question. What stops the Chinese and other refinery building cabal members from meeting and pegging the price of petrol at a high price. Jonathan is selling us a dream if he thinks market forces would drive the price of petrol down. If it's high, it's high forever. |
^^^Dude answer my questions from my previous posts. Stop dodging them. I love how you stated abbey621:which goes back to all I have been saying all along. Deregulation and removal of fuel subsidy are not the same thing. They are not the same thing. You claim removal of fuel subsidy is the magic bullet. It is not. Get that into your head. Deregulation (good). Removal of subsidy=Higher tax on the people (bad). Since you love Ronald Reagan so much you should know that. You can't raise taxes on the people when the economy is weak. The US oil industry is deregulated and yet the government spends 3.5 billion on oil subsidy. They spend billions on other subsidies for other forms of energy, including coal, nuclear, solar, wind and ethanol, all of which have received billions of dollars in tax incentives. Explain it to me Oh Learned one who has done all the research. I bet you have some answers for that, I'm waiting, ![]() |
yampoo:At least he is saying the truth now. I like how he keeps saying. "I am a man of God". lol. Modification: Okay. I take that back. He is pro subsidy removal Yikes, na thieves we get in there ooooo |
http://elections.nytimes.com/2012/debates/2012-01-08-republican-debate I just found this now. January 8 2012. 10.09 AM Republican candidate for President John Huntsman Responding to a question about cuts in a program that helps low-income families pay for heating oil, Mr. Huntsman said many people were in need and the program should be supported until the nation moves to more diversified sources of energy and reduced imports of oil. He went on to say that federal government policy "always favors one product -- and that's oil." The "one-product monopoly," he said, should be broken up. Mr. Huntsman did not have an opportunity to fully explain what he meant, but it appeared that he was referring to government tax policies that have supported the oil industry for nearly 100 years through various subsidies and incentives, which today reach about $3.5 billion a year. President Obama has called for ending these tax breaks, but he has been opposed by the oil industry and by most Republicans in Congress. Mr. Huntsman made no reference to federal tax breaks and other subsidies for other forms of energy, including coal, nuclear, solar, wind and ethanol, all of which have received billions of dollars in tax incentives over the past several decades. So while the oil industry has enjoyed favored treatment for years, so have most other forms of energy. America has a 3.5 Billion dollars a year subsidy and yet the IMF tells us it's a good idea to take our subsidy away. |

abbey621:Abbey you are trying to find a solution to a symptom not the problem. You said "Oando , Shell & other oil companies buy refined oil from Iran or Saudi Arabia at the rate of 100 naira, they told government they bought it at 200 naira, government under the subsidy arrangement must allow them to sell it to Nigerians at the rate of 65 naira, meaning government pays for the remaining 135 naira" Who made the arrangement? Isn't it the same government? Who is the cabal? isn't it their buddies? Better yet, why can't the NNPC (PPMC) handle such arrangements and do it all in house? Why do we need Oando and Shell to handle it? Corruption is the problem. if they are engaging in unlawful practices as you allege why can't the same government send the EFCC after them? and at least the government can pay them 100 naira instead of 200 naira. That's the problem. Deregulation and removal of subsidy are two different things You say "removal of fuel subsidy and the privatization of the oil sector will create more competition and a better marketplace for Nigerians". Who is going to invest? Nigeria is a mature industry. Who is going to invest all that money (billions of $$$) only for the next administration to {possibly} put fuel subsidy back in place in 2015. We are talking about 2012. Oil companies don't call themselves "oil companies" anymore they call themselves "Energy companies" Governments build refineries. That our government didn't build and maintain ours is a travesty that shouldn't be taken out on the common man. Bp ads say "Beyond petroleum". Chevron says it's powered by Human energy This same government that squandered our sovereign wealth fund is the same one that tells us to trust them. That they are going to invest the savings from fuel subsidy removal in infrastructure. Yeah right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! America subsidizes agriculture heavily? They subsidize medical care too. how come it works out for them. We have been begging them to make trade fair, They are not interested in doing so. How come nobody is being blackmailed and Americans are not starving? http://www.maketradefair.com/en/index.htm Read this. Venezuela took over refineries in 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6610333.stm Tell me why we can't manage ours. Petrol is cheaper than water over there. Find the solution by dealing with the problem. All that extra stuff you are yarning are symptoms You stated:"We all wonder why there's no stable power supply, no jobs and poor security, the answer is simple, government is being blackmailed by the big shots oil companies and the politicians that owns them". Symptoms bro not the problem. Till we solve corruption and bring it down. We would be chasing shadows till kingdom come. |
abbey621:Corruption is the only reason we do not have working refineries. We are slaves to countries that have refineries because our leaders wanted it to be so. Stop comparing us to Ghana. Case in point, poor Venezuela has working refineries. Google it. I have read your other posts, and I think you believe removal of fuel subsidy and deregulation are the same thing. Educate yourself. They are not. The government just packaged good (deregulation) with bad(removal of fuel subsidy). Educate yourself Georgia boy. Logic Mind:What does GEJ being from the Niger Delta have to do with anything. 2nd America has bus conductors, market women, security guards, and butlers and maids. What exactly is your point? |
You propaganda bearing fools should stop comparing Nigeria to Ghana. We are not in the same league. We produce over 2 million barrels a day. We've been a major oil player since the 50's, and you want us to pay more for petrol than the Americans do. 140 a liter *4= 1 gallon. America pays about 3.39/gallon +or- some cents. Nigerians now pay about $3.70 and you think it's fair?. In a country where minimum wage is 18,000 a month. Folks in the Niger Delta who never saw any benefits from oil would now have to pay more for everything. Isn't that ironic? Compare us to Venezuela, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Turkmenistan and Kuwait. Where petrol is cheaper than water. I wish I could come out of your computer screens and slap the hell out of you muthafuc33rs. You guys would sell your mothers just to make a couple Naira. Shame on you. Shame on all of you. The rest of us are more concerned about people who think about Christmas in August. We think about the bus driver and conductor who barely make ends meet. The conductor, the market woman. The mai-guard. The houseboy. The Government has blown all our money. Now they want to place Austerity measures on us. Obasanjo paid our debts. Oil Prices have been high for the past 5 years we shouldn't be near broke. |
Seun remove the other rumor mongering thread that falsely stated she's resigning. Then again, it's good for your business. The extra clicks. |
iskoki:This is just throwing mud on the wall and hoping it sticks. Your president and his security chiefs are donkeys. Until last week there was no mention of a counter terrorism unit. First thing they should have done was to form one 2 years ago. All that time, it was siddon look and hope it fizzles out. Beaf:Which past? hasn't Jonathan been in power since 2007, as Yar Adua's VP and then as President. 5 years and you are still blaming soldiers. No let God punish you ooo. You know the truth and you refuse to tell it. Nonsense! |
Bliss4Lyfe:Do tell how we should hold "this government accountable" How do we do it? You are asking us to hold a government that is chronically corrupt accountable. Poorer African countries are not top ten oil producers. You are comparing apples to oranges. Please don't compare the UK to Nigeria. They have electricity, infrastructure and they have a safety net. In Nigeria you dig you own borehole, pay for your security, generate your own power via generators. Don't compare! |
This is what I said zebudaya: PA1982:First off, do you fools read posts before replying, or you just skim through it before firing your insults. I said the scammers are scum. Oyinbo man is the biggest fraudster ever. He scams people with "fine print". You are talking about massive protests. Who cares? What did they achieve? It's still business as usual. Give me the name of a Wall Street top management executive who worked for Bank of America, Barclays Capital, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, UBS, AIG or Wells Fargo and went to jail for trigerring the mortgage crisis and gambling on risky derivatives. NONE OF THE BIG BOYS WENT TO JAIL. justwise:I don't know why you are insulting me, calling me a scum. Anyways, You are telling me about some lil Ghanaian. Who gives a damn? He's a small fry! NONE OF THE BIG BOYS WENT TO JAIL for the subprime and mortgage fraud that triggered the recession. I want the names of the movers and shakers on Wall Street who went to jail for triggering the crisis. You are a wretched fellow who talks without understanding. They just showed some innocent guys talking on the phone outside and subliminally labelled them scammers. To you it seems right? I'm not talking about Bidemi and other idiots kneeling down. I'm talking about the other guys in the video who were minding their own business and chilling on the street. Former SEC chairman Bernie Madoff stole billions and is in jail. You won't hear anyone saying All Americans are scammers. Former Illinois governor Rod R. Blagojevich, is heading to jail for corruption (14 years). You won't hear anyone saying all Americans are scammers White man ruins our image and you all jump on his bandwagon. Effing slaves. Both of you should do me a favor. Educate yourselves by watching the documentary "INSIDE JOB". I still stand by my earlier assertion. Those 419 dudes are scum, the Wall Street guys are scum too. White man ruins our image and manages to keep his hands clean even though he's doing the same thing. |
kepsi123:No mind them. They are extremely useless folks. Almost every post is derailed by tribal ranting/unnecessary insults. There are a couple of folks, once I see their names I don't even bother reading their comments. I know it's going to be shameless vitriol. Life is too short to let their negative energy infiltrate my psyche. |
Nasty Australian woman talking down to them. Calling them lowest of the lowest scum. Oyinbo man caused the global recession betting on risky derivatives. Not 1, Not one of them has gone to jail. They ruined lives on a bigger scale, and got away scot free :Bank of America, Barclays Capital, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, UBS, Wells Fargo Securities. Scoundrels and thieves. P.S Those 419 dudes are scum, the Wall Street guys are scum too. White man ruins our image and manages to keep his clean even though he's doing the same thing. |

27Naira: Thats all you have to say? you're such a low-life.Sango fire your dirty nyash. Why you de insult me? I hate dumb people. If you are so stupid to give a dude with a foreign accent accent who's claiming to be a white man 90k. Aren't you a mugu? She never met the guy and she's sending all that money? Abeg free me. It takes two to tango and she encouraged this scam. I have no compassion. Good thing there's a video, so others would learn. |
That woman gave him 90K, wow dudes are making money. |
I think it's a decoy, they are trying to ignite a war. That's why they bombed Jos. Jos in on the brink of exploding. Now Delta? Na decoy fu[king Boko Haram. |
Dear friends and fellow Nigerians, the Supreme Court has given its verdict on the April 2011 Presidential elections and this judgment corroborates the verdict of Nigerians and the vast majority of International Observers and the World Community who hailed those elections as water shed elections that were the freest and fairest since Nigeria returned to civil rule.Election na the priority? abeg Beaf spin this for me. ![]() |
GEJ has some blame concerning Boko Haram but the blame is not solely on him. It is easy to blame GEJ but for those doing that, you need to ask yourself, How come we did not have a Boko Haram problem during Yaradua, IBB, etc regime? This is nothing but a task to keep the power towards the North (The election riot anyone?), it does not take a genius to realize this. For years, the North pushed for a Sharia Law Nigeria but yet it is recent after the election of a christian they turned extremely violent for such cause.
You got your facts wrong. There has been a Boko Haram since 2002, The first group was violent but not sophisticated. Yar adua and the Borno governor wiped them out and killed the leader. They went underground and have splintered. Now this is a much more dangerous faction carrying out the bombings. SSS has caught some of them with bombs only to release them back to local Imams and elders who promise to "reform their ways). These dudes then carry on bombing http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/editorial/28537--shielding-boko-haram-from-justice If Jonathan and our SSS had a strategy we would have eradicated this menace a long time ago. Catch them, torture them, and they would reveal who is behind this. Read this Who are Nigeria's Boko Haram Islamists? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13809501 Jonathan is useless and weak. I post here hoping one day he would log on and and see how Nigerians really feel about his performance instead of being constantly surrounded by sycophants and spin doctors. If he devoted half the energy he's devoting to removal of fuel subsidy. We'd have gotten rid of Boko Haram. People tell me don't blame him. Find solutions, this is a freaking solution. |
Very courageous of them, now hopefully Boko Haram won't kill them. |
Jonathan is President Jonathan has access to almost unlimited funds Jonathan has an Army, Navy, SSS, Police, MOPOL Jonathan has jails and western support Jonathan was pretty much given a mandate by the people To whom much is given much is expected. I am tired of all these "dog ate my homework excuses". If the northern elite is using Boko Haram to make the country ungovernable, then arrest them, shame them, jail them abi? Instead of wasting time doing nothing. Follow the money. Strike the Shepherd and the sheep would scatter. Kill the financiers, kill the leaders. That's how all leaders from Moses , to King David, to Obama have done it. It's not rocket science. Sudan killed a major Darfur rebel leader on Christmas day http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-16328441. Dude was living in Libya and fighting for Gadaffi, when Gadaffi lost power, Sudanese intelligence was chasing the guy all around the desert. They finally killed him on Sunday and dealt a big blow to his rebel group. So what's Jonathan's excuse? You need to understand the guy has been in Aso Rock since July 2007. He was Yar Adua's VP. So after having 5 years experience running a 150 Million+ country, being in all the security meetings why is he acting like a dummy. His predecessor was called Baba go slow. GEJ is not moving at all. All these Northern Elite is undermining him excuse is crap. Republicans undermine and try to embarrass Obama every chance they get. Same thing was done to Bush by the Democrats. Look at how Labor insults the English prime minister. |
Hablad47:You should get a life you rotten scoundrel and stop posting spam here. That's what you've been doing on a lot of threads. |
Ivynwa:I just hate it when people like you make this a North vs South issue. And say stuff like oh the southerners are going to separate and take their oil, Don't blame Johnathan etc. The bombs are going off in Northern territory. The people are suffering. You think the majority are happy about it and support it? Riddle me that. I'm guessing you are Igbo since you mentioned Ojukwu. There has been a spate of kidnappings in the South east. You think the people are happy about it and are supporters of kidnappers? If your answer is No, then apply it to the North. Johnathan as Commander-in-Chief is to be blamed. It's not a North vs South issue. If he can't hire the right people in our spy agencies to combat Boko Haram, and if he can't make the right moves he should quit, and not just continue to embezzle our money without giving results. The fool made a statement "Boko Haram would end one day and would fizzle out". How is it going to fizzle without our government doing something and you say don't blame him? Sending the military to kill low level foot soldiers who are easily replaced is not a solution. We need spies to infiltrate Boko Haram. Up till today WE DO NOT know who they are. Did Bush keep quiet when Bin Laden brought down the towers? He told us who did it and demanded that Afghanistan should hand them over. He sent troops to Afghanistan and took the battle to them. Obama came in and continued the job. Up till today they have not prosecuted the folks who Bombed the Police headquarters or UN Headquarters or the Independence day celebrations or who keep killing policemen and bombing police stations. This is a symptom of extremely weak leadership and you say we should not blame Johnathan? If I don't do my job well I would get fired. Why should he be treated differently? I'm not interested in insulting you, but I won't ignore you when you post stuff that doesn't make sense just because you are a lady. I'm a firm believer in equal rights . Read my signature below. |
Find another church or get married in court. |
Ivynwa:Yeah yeah talk is cheap. We are going to blame Goodluck until he delivers results. We know the government is inefficient. Boko Haram is not a North Vs. South issue. I guess you are a PDP PR person. How much do they pay you to sell your soul? |
Beaf don't blame the North, they suffer the brunt of the bombings. Blame your boss. Goodluck Jonathan . He is very unintelligent and is out of his league. One has to make a decison. Either hunt these people down or negotiate with them if you can't beat them. Instead of hoping "it would fizzle out" one day. Goodluck is extremely useless. 9/11 Happened and Bush & Obama went after Al-Qaeda, The Taliban and Afghanistan so hard they are reduced to planning underwear bombs right now. That's what your boss needs to do declare war on Boko Haram and it's sponsors, but he won't. Your populist crap idea is to remove core northerners from the military. How would that help the situation. SPIN Doctor. It only excites people who are too lazy to think. Simple minded folks. Remind your boss he is the Commander-in-Chief and for once let him command, let him lead. |
aribisala0:Bombs went off. People lost their lives and you think it's funny? You think this is a laughing matter? I am extremely disappointed. |
Mobinga:Thank you. I was going to say the same thing. KnowAll we are not blind. Your use of bold fonts is unnecessary and very annoying. |
The problem with Nigerians is most of us lack critical thinking skills. The article clearly states "Under the arrangement, the country (Ghana) intends to increase her current 2000 megawatts of electricity to 5000 megawatts with the hope of selling surpluses to needy countries including Nigeria. Nigeria was generating 4000 MW as of last week before Egbin shut down on Tuesday Dec 13 2011. Let's assume they'll fix it in a week and we'd get back to 4000 MW. From 2012 power is going to be privatized. Delta state just got a license to generate their own power. Other states would do the same So how the hell is little Ghana who currently produces 2000 MW going to exceed our output, and have so much they can sell power to us. It's simple math. They can't and they wont. Even at our worst we are much closer to their 5000 MW target than they are. Don't believe everything you read. Don't believe everything you read in Sun news Nigeria. The lack of power is a result of corruption, Ghana has it too. This was just cheap propaganda for the illiterate Ghanian masses. Most of you are so eager to talk bad about Nigeria. Good things happen to us everyday. If you pay attention you would see it. Keep talking and being negative. The British, Dutch, and Americans came in and made money off oil. The Lebanese made lots of money with their businesses too. Chagoury is building Eko Atlantic city, The Chinese are already here. Yet a lot of Naija people keep complaining and seeing obstacles instead of solutions. |
really? You refuse to answer my questions. You are not willing to learn. You just want to argue back and forth.
